Date: 08/27/2020 my 2005 Acura Tl has a safety issue with the airbag system. The passenger dash has cracked on both sides of where the airbag is located. This issue occurred slowly over the course of about a year when the vehicle was stationary. As of a week ago, the red airbag warning light goes on and stays on (by the speedometer) when a passenger sits in the front seat. I have researched this issue and there are thousands of Acura Tl owners that have this same problem with the dash on the passenger side cracking and many have filed complaints with the NHTSA and have contacted Acura. Even though all of the other Acura Tl model years through 2014 were part of the takata airbag recall, for some reason the 3rd generation Acura Tl model years 2004 - 2008 have not been recalled due to the takata airbag issue. I have read that it may be due to Acura needing to remove the dash in order to replace the airbags, and that they don't want to incur the expense of replacing the entire dash. According to several Acura Tl owners, replacing the dash costs between $1,000 - $2,000 (for the owner) and doesn't take into account the safety issue regarding having the passenger airbag damaged due to the cracks in the dash and humidity getting in. This is a serious safety issue as the cracks could affect deployment of the passenger airbag, or cause it to deploy while driving and cause injury to the passenger or the driver. According to many posts I have seen online, this issue has been going on for over 5 years. Please investigate this safety hazard and notify Acura. Acura needs to take responsibility for this widespread safety issue.

My battery would be dead if I didn't drive my car every day. Then I found out there is a parasitic drain on the battery from a faulty hands-free bluetooth module. I watched a video then disconnected mine myself, problem solved. I've used a headlight restoration kit because the lights are yellow and they have spider-cracks all in them, it really affects the brightness of the light itself. The dashboard is cracked beyond repair and I'm terrified of getting into a wreck in my car, the dash would become shrapnel!.
Dash is cracking on passenger side.
Tl- the contact owns a 2004 Acura Tl. The contact stated that the vehicle dashboard are badly crack and above the air bag there's million of pieces of cracks and stated that the air bag would deploy incorrectly sending pieces of the dashed into the passenger in the event of an accident. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic for a diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and provided a case number: 10142090. The failure mileage was approximately 97,000. Aw.

2005 Acura Tl, very well maintained. Jun 2019, a crack appeared in dashboard on the right side of the passenger side airbag. Airbag dashboard light came on 3 months later and stays on. Dealer said they had never seen that before, but now I know this is a known problem. Love the car, but feel Acura needs to resolve this defect. The risk of air bag deployment is serious.
Dashboard cracks: potential danger of airbag failure over the last few years, my car has developed several cracks in the dashboard. Of particular concern is a large crack which just recently appeared along the left side of the front passenger airbag unit. (see photos) I am very concerned that the cracks can allow moisture or condensation to enter the airbag unit, possibly causing it fail, deploy prematurely, or not properly deploy in a crash situation. Although the dashboard cracks are seemingly cosmetic, its potential to create a severe safety issue is of great concern. Especially in light of the takata recall for airbags, I hope that the manufacturer can help repair or replace these faulty dashboards with a quality material that will not degrade in such a manner.

I entered my vehicle yesterday moring an noticed three two large crack across the dashboard starting at the winshield moving toward the passenger compartment. I did not notice the cracks when cleaning my car last week = sudden event occurance. A google search indicates many 2004 to 2008 Acura Tl's experience this issue. I am concerned about these cracks effecting the air bag deployment process and subsequent loss of passenger protection/safety during a collosion. Google search results imply these cracks will continue to develop and spread across the entire dashboard due to a design or manufacturing defect. Can you help us?.
Dash board cracking around airbag. Concerned about premature airbag deployment, injury during deployment of dash board plastic or no deployment at all during a accident.

Dash board starting to crack, afraid if cracks would make passenger airbag explode. Car has less than 50,000 and garaged.
Cracks on the dashboard appear rapidly, starting by the passenger airbag location. First crack a week ago and now a another one. . . . . . Afraid that airbag could deploy or not deploy and according to many Acura Tl 2004 owners this is a very common and upsetting matter.

Dashboard has cracks starting from the area the front passenger airbag is located and has since spread to all areas of the dashboard. Acura has refused to acknowledge the defect, despite thousands of owners complaining. This issue has made its way to cnn, local news, numerous boards and websites, facebook, twitter, etc. The brand refuses to stand by their product and resolve the issue.
Cracked dashboard. I went to the dealer for a repair and they told me they can't repair it cause it's dangerous to repaired it because the airbag might explode. So what can I do? they want to charge me 2000 dollar.
The contact owns a 2004 Acura Tl. The contact stated that the dashboard was cracked around the air bags. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 160,000.
Dashboard is cracked, affecting passanger airbags. Many 3rd gen Tl's have this problem, which needs to be fixed please! happens overnight, and worsens. A defect from Acura.
Im not sure when it happened as I was willed this car after my mother passed, and it was like this prior to her buying it. But the dashboard is cracked from one end to the other going down to the glove compartment and dash gauges. From what ive read this is very common in Acuras 04-08, but I am now concerned about my airbags deploying properly. From what ive read everyone who has brought this to Acuras attention has had to pay out of pocket to get it fixed, or leave as is.
Dash board has cracks every where looks horrible . . . . Not happy with this car.
The contact owns a 2004 Acura Tl. The contact stated that while driving at an unknown speed, the air bag warning light illuminated. In addition, the contact stated that the dashboard was cracked around the passenger side air bag. The contact also stated that when the accelerator pedal was depressed, the vehicle decelerated as the check engine warning light flashed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the air bag sensor needed to be reset. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 81,000.
Large crack appeared on my dashboard today. I googled and found out there are thousands of Acura Tls having the same issue. But the manufacturer has not done a recall. I called Acura client relations as well as dealer. They are not doing anything. The crack dashboard is a safety concern as the srs airbag sits behind that and can explode.
Dashboard is cracked in two places. One crack is right above the airbag. Not sure if it could cause the airbag to deploy? I have read that this is a problem with a lot of Acuras.
Initially, during the warranty period, in June 2009, portion of the dashboard above the passenger side airbag faded from black to a light gray indicating some sort of decomposition. The dealer dyed the plastic black again. Last year, a long crack appearred in the dashboard in the same area running from front to back. This summer a long second crack s appeared possibly outlining the contour of the passenger airbag compartment. This week, a third crack has started in the center of the dashboard. A quick search on the internet reveals that this is a common problem for owners of third generation Acura Tl vehicles and may represent a material or quality issue. It is also possible that increased brittlenebritr loss of integrity of the dashboard may adversely affect the performance of the passenger airbag allowing material to be ejected when the airbag deploys. I have used dash "shades" to protect the dash from sun exposure over the years and have never had a prior vehicle's dashboard deteriorate in this manner. This could be similar to the problems occurring in Toyota dashboards and their recall as this is in high temperature/humid environment. Acura does not recognize this a problem because many of the complaints out claims are out of warranty.
This model and year has numerous of complaints about the front dashboard cracking at an early stage. Also the valve cover gaskets leaks prematurely. And finally the transmission began slipping out of gear which I had to have it rebuilt. Please address these issues.
Air bag light came on and air bag was defected and I had to pay for it . My dashboard cracked cnd my dash light s don't work they sometime come on and go off.

Tl-the contact owns a 2005 Acura Tl. The contact stated that the dashboard was cracked on the passenger side. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was later taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the dashboard needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 125,000. Djr.
I owned an Acura Tl 2014 since new. I took well care of it but there are many big cracks on the dashboard. I found many others have the same issue. This should be a recall. It is a luxury car and it should not have this kind of issue.

2005 Acura Tl purchased with only 88,000 miles in above excellent (purchased from a Porsche mechanic) condition. The dash over the passenger side airbag started cracking around 100,000 miles and after reading all of the 'Acura forums' have discovered this is more than common with Acura owners around the u. S. A. Dash cracks anywhere near an airbag are more than alarming.
Tl- the contact owns a 2005 Acura Tl. The contact stated that the dashboard had experienced cracking on both the driver and passenger sides near the location of the air bags. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified in reference to the problem. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 67,000. Jft.
My leather dashboard on the inside of my car has about 3 crack lines. The cracks also run on top of the area where the airbag pops out. This is a major safety concern for me along with many other people that have the same problem. I have never seen this condition on any car, and would expect not to see it on such a high end vehicle like my Acura Tl. The dashboard should not be cracking at all. This should be an automatic recall item, especially because of the safety concerns. Please address this promptly. It is a shame that the dealerships say that this is natural wear and tear. If there is a airbag underneath it, the item should be recalled. Looking at older complaints on same issue , Acura where helping but my car is 10 years old and they don't help, this just happened which I think they should still support, the airbags may or may not deploy . . Is this a safety issues, Acura charge $1800 to replace but at our cost the dealership want me to pay $700 and they will take the rest as they are aware of this issue. I don't think I should pay.
I need to file a complaint after purchasing my Acura Tl 2006 a few weeks later my dash board started to crack really bad contacted Acura regarding this problem and all they responded was they could replace it for a cost. This is really disappointing due to reading similar complains online for the same thing happening to other owners this should diffinitely be a recall this is cracking where the air bag is. Another complain if the car is left with out turning the ignition on for more then a day the car will not start I then need to jump start it to have it run again every week I've also read this is happening to other Acura owners as well this is an electrical problem which is very inconvenient for me and other Acura car owners there should be a recall to fix this issue as well. Please help me and other Acura owners with this constant problem and making Acura accountable for bad manufacturing.
The contact owns a 2005 Acura Tl. The contact stated that the dashboard was cracked in four different areas. The contact mentioned that one of the ares was close to the air bag, which could cause possible exposure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 178,000.
Dash board began to crack alongside the right of the passenger dash airbag. The passenger side dash airbag is increasingly noticeable. Since June of 2014, the entire dashboard has continued to crack and is now significantly damaged due to the continuation of cracking that has evolved from the initial crack along side the airbag. Fayetteville, arkansas Acura service department insists that there is not an issue with the model & that the airbag/dash damage is not the responsibility of the vehicle manufactures to replace & that there has not been a recall issued for my make/model/year nor VIN #.
My Acura 2005 Tl has several cracks throughout the dashboard. I have filed previously, this filing is another concern that can be added to the ones I just submitted regarding the cracked dashboard - will the damaged dashboard break apart easily and cause injury during a minor accident? this concern is additional to the airbag concerns I articulated in my previous submission.
