Failure Date: 03/24/2016

Nhtsa campaign 15v519000 (gm safety recall 14291). This problem results in failure of headlights. I received letter from gm in September 2015. It indicated that a permanent solution was not yet available. Today I checked with gm and they indicated the permanent solution is not yet available and furthermore they have no schedule for completion. Obviously, headlight failure is a significant safety concern (which has happened twice to me). For gm not to have developed a permanent solution, or apparently even a schedule for doing so, is extremely disappointing.

The 2005 Buick Lacrosse exhibits exactly the same hdm relay failure as described in NHTSA campaign number: 14v755000. The hdm module can overheat and fail which causes the headlights or daytime running lights to fail to light. In the overheating situation the hdm relay seems to shunt the battery current which causes enough heat to melt the fuse panel, and killing the battery. I have replaced the fuse panel, and relay and with new equipment and the lights worked again. The hdm module has since failed again at 69000 miles, although I caught it before the fuse panel was melted. Expand NHTSA campaign number: 14v755000 to include 2005 Buick Lacrosse vehicles as well.

19 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 12/11/2012

My daughter has a 2005 Buick Lacrosse that the electrical system shuts off different items that can be dangerous at night. The headlights (dims) will shut off, the radio will turn off or the lights for it will dim or shut off, the dash lights dim or turn off completely, then take quite a while to come back on. Sometimes it affects only different parts of those listed above. The issue is we have had it into a repair shop at least twice for it and they have replace some parts they thought could cause it, but it hasn't stopped it from happening. It is only noticeable in the evenings when the lights are needed but it happens at any time but when you want to duplicate the problem. No one seems to know what the problem is because when we get it to the shop, the problems are no longer showing up. It has done this for her at least 6 times.

While driving home at night on the highway my headlights went out I tried turning them off and then back on nothing happened so I drove home using my flashers so no one would hit me. Took into the dealer and they checked the car out and the headlights were now working they told me they would not be able to do anything unless it happens when they have it in the repair shop. They stated it's like finding a needle in a haystack. Great response . Since then it has happened three more times the most recent was yesterday. My job is 35 min away from home and there are three nights per week that I drive home in the evening and my driving is on the highway which is a major interstate.
