Buick Lesabre owners have reported 4 problems related to automatic transmission torque converter (under the power train category).
Transmission no longer shifts into 3rd or overdrive. With shifter in overdrive and in stopped position once you take your foot off the brake to begin acceleration the torque converter slams to a stop and the engine shuts off. Transmission fluid full at all times, engine warmed up. Repeated stalling, repeated tachometer quits. Repeated engine quits when you place in overdrive from neutral. Must start movement by placing in lower gears 1 2 or 3. This transmission never shifts out of second gear. Put it on code analyzer and got 2 codes that indicated pc solenoid torque converter solenoid issues. Seems like these 2000 Buicks have recurring defects and gm won't standby their product. Why on earth would a company that designs cars ever put a battery under a car seat. One spark with hydrogen gas under that seat could kill an infant in a car seat if it exploded. . Come on!!!.

While driving on i95 in georgia on the way to florida 12-28-08 my 2003 Buick Lesabre transmission started bucking and jolting car as it shifted. Took to garage and it was determined that the torque converter locked up, this car had the transmission oil replaced at recommended 50,000 miles, besides the 2200 dollars to replace transmission we had to get hotel room, meals and a rental car to continue trip as the replacement transmission could not be delivered right away.

Front end vibrated while driving at highway speeds. Vehicle had been balanced/ wheel bearings had been replaced, and a steering dampener was installed. None of these repairs remedied the problem; cause not determined. TSB# 000310007a did not reference this problem. The area representative concluded that the torque converter was the cause of the vibration. He also stated that nothing could be done to correct the problem.

Low speed shutter, torque converter locking up at 30 mi. /hr. It is like starting a standard trans. In 3rd or 4th gear. G. M. Says this is a normal thing for this model year. I say bull_.
