Buick Lesabre owners have reported 19 problems related to check engine light on (under the engine and engine cooling category).
While driving the vehicle at 35 mph, the dashboard check engine light illuminated. The engine idle speed became erratic and the vehicle stalled. Upon scanning the computer for fault codes, a p0102 code was found. The mass airflow sensor and the idle control valve were both replaced, however the p0102 fault and check engine light re-appeared the next day. I have found hundreds of complaints online for the identical problem that Buick Lesabre owners are experiencing with no solid "cure" for the problem. This condition is un-safe and renders the vehicle unreliable for driving.

Engine stalls while driving. No warning. Engine will restart, but will only run for a few seconds, then stalls and will not restart. No check engine lights or other indications that there is a problem. Happens at high and low speeds. Car will restart and operate normally after sitting for a few hours, usually overnight. Car has been towed 7 times for this problem. Dealer has replaced two ignition modules, and one crankshaft position sensor. Car has been at the dealer for this problem for a total of twelve weeks since initial occurrence, while the dealer tries to duplicate the problem. Dealer most of the time cannot duplicate the problem. Most recent occurrence, the car displayed the following codes: b1009 and b2734. Mileage between incidents ranges from as high as 15,000 miles to 1,500 miles. Car is undependable, and much more important, unsafe.

The check engine light came on in my 1998 Buick Lesabre and I pulled over to discover that there was low levels of coolant. It had just been checked 2 months earlier at an oil change and the week brfore when I got gas. I added coolant and got back on the road. After 5 miles the car quit running in heavy traffic. I had it towed to a Buick dealer who diagnosed the problem as a failed plenum that allowed coolant to foul the plugs. The dealer replaced the plenum, fouled plugs, coolant, and oil for $800. 00 dollars.

While driving on my way to work the vehicle started to slow and the engine light came on. I pulled over and attempted to start the car and the engine would not turn over. I called my auto club for a tow and the car was towed to a connoco station in park rapids. They immediatly knew what the problem was, stating they see a lot of the 3800 engines do this. The intake plenum rotted away allowing coolant to fill a cylinder and stall the engine. Gm has issued a service bullitin for the problem, but no recall. This could be a major safety concern with loss of power to the engine the steering and brakes will not function as they should.
While driving engine light illuminated. Vehicle began running very hard and rough. Finally, engine shut down and would not start again. Consumer states due recall 04v090000 vehicle acts in this manner.
While driving 25 mph the engine light illuminated then the vehicle stalled. The dealership was notified but did not resolve the problem. The vehicle stalled because of a cracked plenum which allowed water to enter the engine. The dealer replaced the plenum, spark plugs, cleaned lower intake and cleaned the coolant from the cylinders.
It would be hard to start the vehicle. Once the vehicle was started the engine warning light illuminated. The dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.
While driving engine check light would come on intermittently.
The vehicle was using more oil than usual. The change engine oil light had come on 300 miles short of the 3k miles to travel, when the consumer tested the oil, it was 1qt low. At the end of the computer test, the mileage was 14650k miles. When the oil was checked at 829 additional miles from the last visit, it was 1/4qt low. The consumer talked to many other Buick owners and did not found another (same make/model) with the same problem.

Problems with check engine light staying on continuously clicking on and off . Possible low trace wiring. $72. 50 for cost of repairs. The consumer stated the vehicle stalled 8 times.
While driving engine check light keeps coming on. This happens intermittently. Took vehicle to dealer, and had vehicle repaired, but problem still exists. Oxygen sensor failed due to antifreeze in intake system. The upper intake plenium was leaking because it had cracked and was replaced.
