car   Abs Brake Fail problem of Chevrolet Silverado 1500

The car involved was a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. At different times the brakes would make a chatter noise and then no brakes. It seemed to have brakes after I would hit the pedal again. This time they chattered as I was stopping to pull on the highway and I had no brakes at all. I was proceeding onto the highway and there was a loaded 18 wheeler with logs bearing down on me. I saw what was going to happened so I accelerated at a high rate of speed and shot across the highway out of the trucks path. Thank goodness no vehicles was in the other lane. I checked with a local Chevrolet dealer and they said there was a recall in the northern states for this problem but not in our area. He said it would cost around 1200 to 1400 dollars to repair the abs system failure. Last fall I was towing my camper home and the brake busted on the rear of the vehicle and leaving me with no brakes. Once again I was lucky and had no accident. I had it towed to a local shop and had it repaired. He said it was a common problem of the lines rusting on the gm vehicles. I know the truck is a 2000 model but I had a 1958 Chevrolet truck with over 300,000 miles on it and had no problems what so ever. Seems like the new improved safety products are not so safe after all. Thank you for your interest. This problem occurred on 04/22/14.

The car involved was a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. My 2003 Chevrolet silverado has now had two brake line failures (one in 2010 and one in 2013) resulting in no braking ability. In both cases the emergency brake was quickly used to avoid a possible accident. Both incidents occurred while driving within city driving conditions. Both brake line failure were due to corrosion according to the auto repair shop. I have also had to replace a brake caliper and a front wheel hub assembly (due to abs sensor failure). It was Dec. 2, 2013 when this abs brake fail issue occurred.

car   Abs Brake Fail problem of Dodge Dakota

The vehicle having this issue was a 2004 Dodge Dakota. The vehicle identification number (VIN) of the car was 1D7GL12K74_. At various times the brakes seem to lock up when coming to a stop quickly. This never happens when braking normally, only when needing to brake quickly and hard. Also happens at times during normal braking, but then needing to accelerate, then braking again quickly. This is dangerous in wet weather as the brakes lock momentarily and the tires hydroplane, it appears to be the rear brakes doing this, they release quickly but the momentary lock-up is dangerous. I took it to a mechanic who didn't find a cause for this, but said maybe the abs was periodical failing, as it only happens sporadically; but usually when needing to brake hard as in an emergency. I've never received any recall orders on my vehicle and have lived at same address since purchase of vehicle. This abs brake fail problem happened on Wed., Apr. 12, 2006.

car   Abs Brake Fail problem of Dodge Durango

The car was a 2011 Dodge Durango. Weather conditions were snowy and icy during my daily commute. While in route to my place of work I was driving down a mild incline toward a stop light which had just turned red. I was traveling at a lower speed (30 to 35 mph) due to driving conditions. Due to those icy conditions my abs immediately kicked in as I approached the stop light. For a matter of seconds I had the brake pedal firmly depressed continuously all the way to the stop light and I could hear the typical abs noise until my vehicle stopped. Once traffic resumed I could feel a difference in the pressure needed to apply and activate the brakes. As I continued driving the pressure I needed to apply for braking increased dramatically but with less and less response from the brakes. After only 1 additional trip I realized the need for service work and scheduled service. On my second trip after the initial incident braking became extremely difficult and the dashboard brake warning lamp came on. My third trip was to service which was scheduled and the brake booster was found to be the issue. Initially the supplying Dodge dealer had told the repair facility which diagnosed the issue that the part was unavailable but orders were being shipped soon to fill back orders. This suggested that the brake booster may be prone to some type of failure. Online research and chat indicated this to be a commonly addressed issue. I pursued this concern with Dodge customer service as a safety complaint with 2 different messages. The Dodge customer assistance center did not acknowledge this as a recognized safety issue but only as a "out-of-warranty consideration. Since abs components are designed specifically for these types of driving conditions, safety concerns still remain regarding further abs component failure under normal operation. I have retained the defective part. This abs brake fail issue occurred Monday, March 3, 2014.

car   Abs Brake Fail problem of Honda Pilot

The car involved is a 2006 Honda Pilot. The car had a crash. After driving my leased 2003 Pilot for 3 years, I knew how it handled on turns and how it stopped in emergencies. Barely 100 miles into my 2006 lease, I had to make an emergency stop on a rainy road due to an accident in front of me, and rear-ended a car when my abs system failed to stop in time, despite the fact that my 2003 Pilot would have stopped at least 6 feet before the next vehicle. Knowing my 2003's stopping distance when abs kicks in, I was flabbergasted that the new car didn't come close to stopping in time. I noticed one time since that the abs system just doesn't compare to the 2003, and is extremely dangerous as a result. Another dangerous thing it has done twice is fishtail if I accelerate going into a turn or curve. The dealers service dep't used all kinds of computers to test the brakes, and took it out for a test drive, and said it functioned fine, and maybe I'm just not used to a 2wd. I told them I didn't want to drive this new car, it's not safe, and would rather hold on to my 2003 Pilot. I know they think I'm crazy, but I'd rather be considered crazy than have my epitaph read, "I told you there was a problem. ". It was Monday, Apr. 3, 2006 when this abs brake fail issue happened.

car   Abs Brake Fail problem of Honda Passport

The vehicle involved is a 1999 Honda Passport. Crash was involved with the Honda Passport. My abs brakes failed when I was pulling up to a red light in the rain causing me to rear-end another driver. The approximate speed was less than 20 mph, and my Passport pulled to the right as I was stepping on the brake. The check engine light came on blinking prior to impact after I had stepped on the brake, and went solid after I hit the other driver. I took the car into the Honda dealership who has been servicing my vehicles for over 4 years. They have determined that the check engine light was not related to the accident, and was caused by the master cylinder resetting itself. They find no issue with the brake system, and say there isn't a defect. However, I was driving home from the accident and the brakes failed to engage 2 more times with a pull to the right. Both times were on wet roads in drizzle conditions when the vehicle was going less than 20 miles per hour. This occured again, same weather conditions on 1 November, again with the car going less than 20 mph and again pulling to the right. This situation cannot be reproduced when the weather conditions are dry, and sometimes cannot be reproduced in the rain either. In the accident of 27 October, the bumper of the Passport was damaged more on the front right than on the left. Which supports the stick and slide that I have felt each time the brakes fail to engage. I would like to know if anyone else has had this problem, and if so, what can I do to fix it? I don't feel safe or trust my car anymore while driving. The failure date was Friday, October 27, 2000.

car   Abs Brake Fail problem of Hyundai Genesis

Vehicle identification number (VIN) of the vehicle is KMHGC46F69_. 2009 Hyundai Genesis with 4. 6 liter v8 engine experienced brake failure at approximately 9:00 am while traveling at approximately 40 mph. The brake pedal went soft and went to floor with greatly reduced braking affect. No warning lights appeared on the instrument panel indicating a brake failure or any other problem with the vehicle. The vehicle was brought to the local Hyundai dealership who indicated that a service notification had been issued concerning the brake fluid (campaign #tl6 20c022ro) and the fluid would be replaced. After the fluid was replaced the brakes were still inoperative. The dealership service department next said the brake abs module had failed (hecu). The costly abs module was replaced and the brake operation returned to normal. This abs brake fail problem happened on Aug. 29, 2013.

car   Abs Brake Fail problem of Infiniti QX4

The reporting person owns a 2002 Infiniti Qx4. The contact stated that while traveling 3 mph, the anti-lock braking system warning light illuminated. The service engine warning light also illuminated shortly afterward. The steering wheel then became difficult to maneuver. The vehicle was driven to an authorized dealer where it was confirmed that the steering failed and that the vehicle was to be repaired under NHTSA campaign id number: 11v244000 (steering:column ). As a result of the suspension failure, the anti-lock braking system had also failed. The technician was authorized to repair the vehicle under the recall but only for the steering failure and not the abs system failure. The vehicle was not repaired per the contact's request. The manufacturer was contacted. The failure and current mileages were 89,445. The VIN was not available. The failure date was Sep. 11, 2012.

car   Abs Brake Fail problem of Jeep Wrangler

The vehicle involved was a 2008 Jeep Wrangler 4-dr 4x4. The VIN of the car is 1J4GA39188_. Airbag, abs and esc lights all come on and won't turn off. Meaning airbags may not deploy if in accident and abs may fail when braking. Esc has been randomly kicking in which cuts power to my powertrain and causes a safety hazard when in traffic and my vehicle suddenly slows and cannot maintain speed. Recalls have been done on the right hand drive models from 2008-2011, and the left hand drive model for 2007. This appears to be same issue (clockspring) as the recalls and is a safety concern that the dealer is not taking responsibility for. This problem occurred on Feb. 13, 2014.

car   Abs Brake Fail problem of Jeep Grand Cherokee

I have been having multiple problems with the brakes in my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee purchased brand new in may. It has a total of 1,000 miles on it, but the problems started with only 10miles. The instrument cluster immediately lights up like a christmas tree and then the check engine light remains on. The rearview mirrors move into downward facing positions while in park and while driving. This alone is a major safety hazard. The abs brakes intermittently work and finally failed. The abs module failed. The backup camera works intermittently and the backup warning system also is intermittently working. My car has been at the dealership every month since I have purchased it and it has currently been there for the last 2 â½ weeks awaiting an abs repair. It was Friday, May. 24, 2013 when this abs brake fail issue happened.

car   Abs Brake Fail problem of Land Rover LR4

The car was a 2010 Land Rover Lr4. I have had repeated failures driving multiple Lr4 and a range rover sport (I own both). If while driving the vehicle you lightly rest your foot on the brake pedal (for instance in driving in close quarters) the car will illuminate multiple wanring indicators including engine failure, brake failure, gearbox failure, parking brake failure, abs failure, traction control failure, stability control unavailable and cruise control unavailable. Generally when these condition occur these system will default to reduced functionality modes. This problem is reproducible and is a know issue with the dealer and lrna. Land rover has acknowledged this issue and has no current fix or planned fix. Its apparent cause is a two stage brake switch which causes a software fault when only one of the two switches is engaged. Land rover cannot confirm that the failure of these system does not compromise the safety of the car. At the least this frightens the driver with what appears to be a massive systems failure or at worst compromises virtually all the electronic safety systems of the car. This issue seems to apply to the Lr4, range rover sport, range rover and Jaguar models that use the same engine computer software and brake switch. My research has shown other owners have experienced similar issues. The failure date was Thursday, Nov. 18, 2010.

car   Abs Brake Fail problem of Mercedes Benz S550

The car was a 2009 Mercedes Benz S550. There was crash involved with this Mercedes Benz S550. I was on a snow covered road in my neighborhood driving about 10-15 mph and attempted to make a right turn. The car kept going straight and slid off the road. The esp stability control and abs failed to operate at that point. This was after a recent reprogramming by the dealer. This function had operated correctly all winter prior to that event. The esp light did not flash like it normally does in that situation. There could have been a car coming the other way and I would have hit them due to this failure. No error lights were displayed by the car. The car got hung up on a big rock that was in someone's yard as a result of the incident. I did not report to the police since it was just me and no apparent damage to the yard, only to my car underneath. It was Feb. 25, 2010 when this abs brake fail issue happened.

car   Abs Brake Fail problem of Mercury Mariner

The car involved was a 2006 Mercury Mariner. While driving in the los angeles, CA the brake system message came on indicating that the abs feature had shut down and I was left with only basic hydraulic brakes. I took it to the Ford dealer and they found a technical bulletin that indicated they need to jump one wire in the system. I had that done and paid for the repair. Several days later the check brake system message came on again. Both times the code reader indicated there was nothing wrong with the vehicle at the Ford dealer. The check brake message clears after you turn the vehicle off for a period of time. The vehicle has done this a number of times during the following months including on April 26 and 29. On may 3, 2013 I revisited the dealer and had the system rechecked and they found nothing wrong. They connected the code reader and examined the vehicle and could not find a problem. On may 15, 2013, the check brake message came on and this time I did not turn the vehicle off so the brake system message (check brake system and the buzzer sounding) was on when the mechanic arrived. Again they checked the vehicle and the code reader indicated all systems were fine, even though the message center said there was a problem. The personnel we talked to indicated that this problem has happened to a number of other vehicles and was most likely cause by the wiring harness but could not guarentee that would fix the intermittent problem. The cost to fix this problem was $4000. This in our opinion is a manufacturer defect. The wiring harness hasn't been tampered with and all repairs have been done at a Ford dealer. This is a safety issue as the abs failure could cause an accident on slippery roads or during fast stops. This abs brake fail problem happened on Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2012.

The mechanic stated the brake master cylinder had to be replaced. The failure continued to occur after the vehicle was repaired. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing where the technician replaced the brake master cylinder a second time. The failure continued after the vehicle was repaired. The technician stated the abs system may be defective but did not perform an inspection to verify if the abs caused the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000. This issue happened on Sunday, April 15, 2012.

Abs braking system failure and actuator defect; abs system sensors and hubs previously replaced in August 2009 after notification to Nissan. Nissan has failed to notify public of an abs system design defect and to issue a recall although it has known about the problem in its vehicles since approximately 2004 and the dealers have been issued an advisory. Failure of these components can lead to failure in proper braking, significant reduction of engine power, loss of speedometer, and reportedly fire. Nissan also has been notified of re-ocurrence by complainant and refused to take responsibility for repair. This problem occurred on Nov. 26, 2013.

car   Abs Brake Fail problem of Nissan Armada

The vehicle involved was a 2004 Nissan Armada. As documented in the NHTSA complaints for multiple models and years. My Armada (that I happened to buy for my wife's birthday just 8 months ago), like thousands of other 04-06 Armadas, titans, and qx56 has the random abs incident. This is a serious safety concern that I can't believe has not been recalled. Nissan knows about it. Dealerships know about it. People that have had their complete abs systems replaced are having the problem just a few years down the road. The abs system activates under normal, dry road conditions. The pedal goes to the floor, the vehicle loses almost all braking power, you hear the abs grinding and feel it pulsating the brake pedal. The abs light comes on, some times the "vdc off" and "slip" lights come on. It's documented on vehicle related websites by hundreds of users. car   Abs Brake Fail problem of SAAB 95

The vehicle involved is a 2000 SAAB 9-5. While driving in the 2000 9-5 the dashboard lit up like a christmas tree ; abs, tcs, brakes, etc. . Brought the vehicle to the dealer, and was advised that I needed a new abs controller . The cost to replace it was $2,700. I asked if they could install a rebuild or an aftermarket part ,and they advised that it would cost $1,600. Still aghast, I did some internet research and found that the bosch abs module faile d routinely, and could be repaired for approximately $150 to $250. Aside from the potential safety issue of this part commonly failing there also appeared to be quite a mark up from the dealer/manufacturers on this part. It was Jun. 26, 2007 when this abs brake fail issue happened.
