car   Automatic Transmission Column Shift problem of GMC Yukon

On 2/24/2008 I tried to move the automatic gear select lever on my 2002 GMC Yukon xl to the park position. The gear select lever would not move into the park position. As a result, I could not remove the keys or stop the vehicle from moving while sitting in my garage. I could place it in any gear except park. After looking around the base of the shift lever, I noticed a part of a broken spring stuck in the pivot point of the gear shift lever. I removed the broken spring parts and the shift lever will now move to park. As a result of the return spring being broken the lever now moves freely and we have to manually move it towards the front of the vehicle to stop the engine and remove the keys. With the vehicle running, and the gear shift lever moved towards the rear of the vehicle all the indicator lights for the transmission turn off, at this point it is unknown what gear the vehicle is in. I called my local chevorlet dealer on 2/25/08 and they said this is my problem and I would have to pay to even get diagnosis or estimate for the repair. I feel this is a safety issue, I don't think this should ever happen to any vehicle. It was 02/24/08 when this automatic transmission column shift issue occurred.

Below is a list of all the failures that my 2001 Honda S2000 has sustained. Having no proof besides the fact that tires I purchased used showed some wear. Even after the initial claim of abuse, after bringing it in for the next issue, they could not provide me with specifics of tread depth or anything. Also they had thrown out my old parts, for the reason that I believe to be so I couldn't use them against them. This automatic transmission column shift issue occurred 01/02/02.

After pulling into breakdown lane car was towed to landrover of hanover (MA). They reported that the transfer box "split in half" causing additional damage to the transmission. The quote received at that time was $14,000. Not trusting that dealer, the car was towed to Land Rover metrowest (MA). They replaced the transfer box and reported that the transmission should be ok. 2 weeks later the transmission failed. Metrowest then replaced the transmission. There was no explanation for the failure of the transfer box and transmission. The cost was upwards of $5,000 with a used transmission and transfer box. The vehicles warranty ran up in August of 2000. 5 months prior to the damage. I requested a goodwill adjustment from the manufacturer and was declined. In addition, on 6/5/00 the vehicle was brought to Land Rover hanover for a recall item O2 sensor. At that time it was found that a transfer box mount stud was rusted (while under warranty). The dealer never notified me when the part came in and only mentioned in passing that the part was rusted at all. It is my feeling that the above mentioned repairs and parts should be covered under warranty by the manufacturer. Furthermore, on March 9, 2001 the vehicle was involved in a head on collision with a utility pole at 25-35 mph. Neither the driver's nor passanger side airbags deployed. If it hadn't been for the seatbelt, the driver would have sustained serious injuries. The failure date was Mon., Jan. 29, 2001.

The shifter is now loose and will not go into "park". If I hold it towards the "p" I am able to get my keys out of the ignition. Pulled into a driveway during a house hunting trip, placed the car in park with the gear change button on the right side of the steering wheel, opened the door, exited the auto, walked up the stairs to the house and knocked on the door. It was at this point I heard my wife and 2 children (who were still in the car) shouting at me. I turned to see the car moving forward. The car had been placed in park (the p was noted prior to my leaving the auto) and now the transmission had popped itself through n - neutral into d-drive and was rolling forward. I ran to the car and attempted to place my foot on the brake and place the car back into p-park, the car caught my leg and I was dragged with the car another 15 feet, until I was able to get the gear into p-park. I was unable to stop the car before it rolled into the closed garage door. There is damage to the driver side door, where it was scraped along a stucco wall and the front of the car where it made contact with the garage door. The homeowners garage door has a sizable dent in it. My knee has a deep abrasion from being dragged under the car, and is edematous, with decreased movement. My wife and children were unharmed. car   Automatic Transmission Column Shift problem of Mitsubishi Lancer

I bought a new 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer and after one month started having problems with surges from the transmission. I took it back to the dealership but since it wasnt doing it at regular occurences, they found nothing wrong by driving it. About 6 months later the problem worsened so I took it back to the dealership. Again the car was driven but they could find nothing wrong and blamed it on the tires. I felt insulted as though I couldnt tell what was going on in my car. I finally gave up and decided if the problem caused damage, maybe then they would listen to me. The problem continued for 2 years until I gave up and once again took it to the dealership. They told me that I would need to have the transmission and fluid changed before checking it for further problems covered by the warranty. The cost of this would be $170. 00. I felt this was unfair since I had brought the car in for this problem only one month after the purchase . I called Mitsubishi motors and spoke to maintenance who told me the same thing. I then asked whether my warranty would be voided if I had it done somewhere else for a fraction of the cost. She assured me it must be done by a Mitsubishi dealership. I told her of 4 other poeple with the same car having the same problems but she told me that each car was individual and it didnt mean that it was the same issues causing the problem. I have gotten no resolve over this and feel its not fair to have to pay such a high price for a problem which should have been repaired in the beginning. The failure date was Sat., Nov. 1, 2003.

Ignition can be in off position and keys removed with gear shifter still in "d" drive. I did not know this was not normal until on 7/16/2004 the steering wheel was locked and it took apprx 10 minutes of adjusting wheel and on/off of the brake pedal to get the wheel to unlock. I then read the owners manual and realized I should not be able to remove the keys from the ignition when the gear shifter still in drive. I have done this many times after the 2nd or 3rd I caontacted the dealer to let them know I was not happy with this vehicle as I had to actually run after it at a gas station. The service rep at trophy Nissan said my truck was no longer under warranty but they will look at it and tell me how much it will cost to correct the problem. This is not a warranty issue, this vehicle is clearly defective and very dangerous. Because of this problem I do not allow any family member to drive this truck in fear they will either run over themselves or injury someone else when the truck rolls away. car   Automatic Transmission Column Shift problem of Jaguar S-type

The vehicle involved is a 2000 Jaguar S-type. The vehicle's vehicle identification number (VIN) was SAJDA01C6Y_. I own a Jaguar 2000 s. I bought it in August 2003. I loved the car and it worked great. On April 11, 2004, I parked my car on a slight incline with the park break on. The car would not shift out of park. While trying to shift into reverse, the gear shifter broke. I was stranded with my two children. My car was towed to Jaguar dealership in portland, oregon. They pushed on back of the car to get it to shift. The car is on warranty, so they replaced the shifter. I was told the only remedy was to use the park break while using the foot break, before shifting into park. I feel this is unacceptable. We are human and forget to apply our parking break before shifting into park. Now, tonight, April 26; it happened again. We were parked on a hill. My husband had his foot on the break, did not remove it from the break and put it in park without using the park break. We were stuck again. Jaguar told us to give the car a push from behind to shift it out of park; it worked. How embarrasing to have to push a car from behind, and how dangerous to push a car up a hill to get it to go into reverse. If the car rolled backwards for any apparent reason, it would have killed /or injured my husband and brother-in-law. I find this unacceptable. I do not want to be stranded with my children, just because I forgot to put on my emergency brake on or did not use it "correctly. " it is dangerous for a woman with children to be put in this vulnerable situation where a "man" might not be present to give the car a boost up the hill. I am very frustrated and disappointed. I no longer want my beautiful car. I feel stuck. I could not sell this car in good conscience. The failure date was Sunday, April 11, 2004.
