The vehicle involved is a 2005 Chrysler town and country. 2005 Town & Country: on 7/16/06, my husband, son, and I were driving from our house and heard a loud clunking noise as we turned the corner. It stopped, so we proceeded with our daily errands. After several hours on the road, we were returning home, turned the corner, and heard the same noise. This time something snapped. The van was still running, but it would not move forwards or backwards, or stay in a parked position. My husband then put the car in "neutral" and pushed it to the curb. Luckily, we were within a mile of our house, so we were able to walk home. We had the vehicle towed to crown Chrysler Dodge in greensboro, nc (the place where we purchased it) and left the keys along with an explanation in the drop box. When the technician contacted my husband on 7/17/06, he told him that the axle had broken! thank goodness we were going at a very slow speed when it happened. If it come apart driving down the highway at 70 mph, we could have easily been killed! the dealership said it was still under warranty (we've had the car only 9 months) and made the necessary repair. However, I feel it necessary to report this incident, in the event that this happen to someone else. We were fortunate. . . And I think all Chrysler town and country owners should be warned of this defect. I think this warrants a recall. The failure date was Jul. 16, 2006.

The squealing subsided somewhat, but there has always been a sound. I took my car in again recently for routine maintenance and complained that the sound has still not gone away. They said there was dust on the brakes, and that once it was cleaned up, it should be fine. They said my back brakes were now an issue. Mysteriously, after picking up my car, the squealing was worse and was now coming from the back of the car. The service rep said that I need to fix them within the 1500 miles. I was not having any issues with back brakes up until this point. I truly believe that the service tech tampered did something to them. Finally, my sunroof starting giving out and requires a new motor. This all happened within 2 years with barely 14,000 miles!. This axle assembly problem happened on July 24, 2007.

They will not contact me, I always have to be the one to contact them and the woman I am speaking with at Saturn at the customer care center refuses to allow me to speak to anyone else. The shimmy/shudder has been in the car since day one and every time they gave it back to me they said it was road tested good yet I could immediately upon reaching highway speeds feel the shudder. car   Axle Assembly problem of Toyota Tundra

Crash happened when the problem occurred. I was heading up my close friends snow covered driveway in my 2005 Toyota Tundra double cab 4wd. I had the truck engaged in 4h mode because of the slight snow cover. As I was 2/3 the way up I heard a pop and loud bang and the truck came to a stop with the rear wheels spinning I let off of the gas then started to slide backwards into a tree and then into a ditch causing contact with the r/f door and r/f fender removing the mirror in the process. Upon removal of the truck form the ditch I found that the r/f (pass side)wheel was locked up. At this time we were moving the truck off of the road way and then the wheel began to move after going forward and back a few times. I took the truck to the local Toyota dealer where they said that the truck had a broken r/f cv joint. They have refused to fix any body damage but replaced the axle. After the axle was fixed the dealer said Toyota wanted me to pck up the truck and drive it until they had made a decision on the body work. I refused to pick up the truck due to it not having a mirror on one side and I do not feel the door is secured. The truck has 652 on it and this was only the 2nd time in 4wd for a total usage of about 2 miles. The dealer has refused to let me have the parts and said they would keep them aside. I provided the dealer with a written request to hold the damaged parts for 90 days as of 12/16/05. This axle assembly issue occurred Fri., Dec. 9, 2005.
