car   Brake Disc Caliper problem of Chevrolet Malibu

The vehicle having this issue was a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu classic. The vehicle's vehicle identification number (VIN) was 1G1ND52F15_. This car has had the calipers replaced 2 times now. The first is recorded here and the second occurred on Jan. 15, 2014. Both times the car lost fluid due to caliper leakage. Had difficulty stopping the car the second time around but was able to bring it to a stop without incident. I have a licensed mechanic telling me this is not normal wear and tear. The first incident paid for was $285 and the second was in excess $600. This is not part of a recall but am certain that this should not be occurring. Should this result in a determination of factory error, it would be good to get reimbursed for the heavy out of pocket expense. The failure date was August 24, 2009.

car   Brake Disc Caliper problem of Chrysler Town & Country

The car involved was a 2011 Chrysler town and country. On 8/3/13 (or within a day or two of that date), I took the car to the dealership. The car had less than 36,000 miles on it. It needed the rear brakes replaced, and there was uneven wear between the r & l brakes. Dealership replaced brakes and calipers on both rear wheels. Have felt some pulsing when breaking, have been getting a horrid burning smell when driving, can feel extreme heat from lr wheel after driving. Took to dealer. 4/28/14 rear brakes again have uneven wear (l 6mm; r 8mm) lr outboard brake pad backing clip dislodged and contacting rotor. Lip is damaged. Removed lr caliper and found pads frozen in caliper bracket. Aproximately 8 months since both were replaced by dealership; and apx. 12,000 miles put on the car. Rotors were damaged as well and had to be replaced. Had to put new adapter brackets on the van, because the oem ones were causing brakes to seize up - per dealership. Dealership all for fixing problem, and so is Chrysler, as long as you are willing to pay for the repairs for their defective and design flawed brakes. It was 04/28/2014 when this brake disc caliper issue happened.

car   Brake Disc Caliper problem of Dodge Journey

The car involved was a 2009 Dodge Journey awd. The VIN of this Journey is 3D4GH57V29_. For a while now, randomly my Journey will get stuck in 2nd or 3rd gear after taking off. I will have to stop, put it in park, shut off the engine and restart it for it to reset itself. The steering wheel shakes when applying the breaks, but I've have a complete new set of brakes put on it, rotors and new calipers in the front. The brakes also make a knocking sound. I also got a complete set of tires and they seem to be wearing quicker than normal. I have had 3 different shops look at the breaks for a diagnoses and all of them say that the right parts on it and they don't see and reason for the noises. This problem occurred on 05/21/2014.

car   Brake Disc Caliper problem of Dodge Grand Caravan

Dodge Grand Caravan 2012; noticed about 3 months ago that the rear rotors were becoming so hot that you could melt a stick of butter by just holding it near after driving (30 minutes non-intense driving). One time the rotors were even smoking after. I have already replaced both rear rotors/brakes twice and just bought the car (used) in Dec 2012. I do not do any distance driving, and most is not city. I brought the car to a mechanic who recommended a complete caliper/rotor/pad replacement at around $600. Seemed like a generic fix. I declined, as I can do this with a free weekend, and had no guarantee of fixing the problem looking at other reported issues. The rotors continue to get hot (usually not both at the same time, but rather one more than the other each time), and am afraid to drive any farther than the 30 min commute to work. I have read so many stories of the same issue occurring to Dodge/Chrysler owners, and ones going all the way back to 2008 models. I can't fathom how this would still be an issue in a 2012 model, and that nothing has been done to help the consumer and correct the mistake. Even the dealership mechanic told me that the rotors are too small to handle the heat. I have nightmares of the day that it gets so hot that something in the assembly or tire goes and sends my family of 4 and 2 unborn children into oncoming traffic. This brake disc caliper problem happened on Apr. 1, 2014.

car   Brake Disc Caliper problem of Ford F-250

The vehicle was a 2011 Ford F-250 sd. This safety concern occurred on a 2011, Ford f250, with "26,400" miles on it. Upon leaving my residence, the truck felt sluggish, as if the emergency brake was on. I never use the emergency brake, but checked anyway to confirm it was not set. I pulled over and existed the vehicle, and immediately noticed a burning odor. The odor came came from the driver side front wheel. I reached in to feel the rotor and burned my finger tips from the heat. As a precaution, I checked the remaining wheels and all exhibited very high heat with a burning odor. Luckily, I was within an 1/8 mile of s service station. The mechanic inspected and determined all four brakes had seized due to corrosion. Two calipers were salvageable, two were not. The repair was made with the calipers held for the local Ford dealer for review, and disposition, but the Ford dealer showed no interest, and had declined to personally examine the corroded calipers. The truck was 21 days out of calendar warranty. This issue happened on 04/04/14.

car   Brake Disc Caliper problem of GMC Sierra

The car is a 2003 GMC Sierra. The problem started when I noticed the rear brakes making excessive noise. Figuring that it was likely worn brake pads, I decided to change them. During the process of changing out the brake pads, I noticed that the rotors had been extremely worn down. This lead to me replacing both rear rotors, only to find that the brakes were not releasing after being applied. I then replaced both rear brake calipers. This did fix the problem of the brakes not releasing. After bleeding the brakes, I took the truck out for a test run. At this point there was a brake line failure and lead to complete brake failure. My concern is due to the fact that the brake lines are very heavily corroded, and I fear that there will be many future problems with the system. The truck has many other rusted parts underneath as well, and I do not use the vehicle for any abnormal driving use that would lead to excessive corrosion. It was October 18, 2013 when this brake disc caliper issue occurred.

car   Brake Disc Caliper problem of Jeep Wrangler

The vehicle having this issue was a 2010 Jeep Wrangler. I have had several big issues with my Jeep in the last month and a half. First my brake caliper and piston were frozen due to the fluids not flowing properly according to my mechanic. 2 weeks later my airbag light came on and stayed on brought it into the dealership and they needed to replace my clock spring and the third issue was my engine light that came on and then my car would not start. I needed to replace my alternator which was faulty and then drained my battery which I also had to replace. These three issues have cost me over $1000. 00 dollars in a short period of time. I was wondering if any of them are a issue with my make and model and year of my vehicle. This is becoming I safety issue in my eyes. Especially my brakes and airbag issue. car   Brake Disc Caliper problem of Jeep Liberty

The vehicle is a 2010 Jeep Liberty. I have to keep replacing the rear brake pads every 9000 miles. The dealer could not find out why and said many do it. I called the mfg and they were no help either. I have to replace the rear pads every 9 to 10000 miles. I bought cross drilled rotors and super pads the last time and I think they are wearing out also. I been told by a speed shop the brakes are too small in the rear for the weight of the vehicle. The esp system puts too much pressure to the rears to keep the front from nose diving. Thats why they stopped making them. It is a safety problem as my brakes could go. No one can help me why they keep wearing out. The calipers , pads, rotors been replaced by me and yet after 31000 miles I replaced the pads 3 times already and no one can tell me why other then it is a flaw in the design of the 2010 Jeep Liberty. . . It was Apr. 7, 2014 when this brake disc caliper issue happened.

car   Brake Disc Caliper problem of Kia Motor Sedona

The vehicle having this issue was a 2003 Kia Motor Sedona. I bought a 2003 Sedona used in 2007 with about 50000 miles and have nothing but problems ever since. 1st in 7/08 I went to a local shop (not kia) because my engine seemed very loud. The mechanic told me I needed new motor mounts n that it was kind of unusual for a car to need them so soon. I did call kia n ask them about this and was basically told to bad for you. So I had them fixed ($556. 36). Not even a few weeks later my ac was blowing hot. Same mechanic told me my ac was out n that one of the hoses needed replaced. Had to wait a few years but had it replaced ($1050. 72). Had my 1st brake job done in 2008 ever since I've had to have my brakes replace 2-3 yearly plus had to have new calipers. No one can tell me way the breakpads wear out so quickly. I dont drive a unusual amount. I've had to replace 2 interior door handle and now have a broken exterior handle. My air bag light stays on while I drive which scares me reading others airbag stories. When I try to fill my car with gas the pump will click off after a dollar or 2 like its full but its not. And just a week or so ago I was ob the highway with the cruuse control on all of a sudden I smelt this overpowering smell of gas. I pulled over and checked but didnt see anything wrong. Continued driving again smelled gas tried turning off the ac didnt help. Tried turning off the cruise control the smell instantly stopped. I hope that something can b done to help me and the others with kias. I have some of my repair paperwork. If you have questions for me please call me. The failure date was Thu., Jul. 3, 2008.

car   Brake Disc Caliper problem of Land Rover Freelander

The car involved is a 2002 Land Rover Freelander. The vehicle identification number (VIN) is SALNY22212_. I own a 2002 Freelander with less the 18,000 miles. Brake pads went from good to grinding metal in one day with no signs. I bought extended warranty for $3,000. Since the truck has under 50,000 miles Land Rover will not cover. What kind of service is this. Road side assistance did a great job picking up my truck but I was informed that my local Land Rover has no cars for loaners due to another facility closing in eden prairie minnesota. So here I sit with no wheels. If this is not going to be repaired under any of my warranties you will see a lawsuit brought against Land Rover. Look at the complaints on this truck for brakes, these are factory defects. You should not have to replace brakes and rotors every 10,000 miles. It was Wednesday, August 11, 2004 when this brake disc caliper issue occurred.

car   Brake Disc Caliper problem of Mazda CX9

The car was a 2011 Mazda cx-9. There was crash involved with this Mazda cx-9. Approaching a red light on a dry sunny day, my brakes failed halfway through coming to a stop. At first my vehicle (2011 Mazda cx-9 sport with 56,000 miles) was slowing down normally and then suddenly there was grinding/crunching noises and despite pressing the break, the vehicle was no longer stopping. I slammed the breaks, pumped a few times, and the vehicle simply failed to slow down or stop causing me to slam into the rear of the vehicle in front of me. I took the car into a mechanic who notified me that both of my "front calipers were possibly defective," and my front rotors were "uneven and wearing on the outside. " however, my brake pads were good and did not need to be replaced. Good thing I was already stopping for the red light; therefore I estimate going about 10-15 mph (speed limit on street was 35 and I was already midway through coming to a stop at the light). Imagine if I need to break while going 60-70 mph on the interstate! or worse, driving in the rain!. This issue happened on May. 14, 2013.

car   Brake Disc Caliper problem of Mercedes Benz M Class

The car involved is a 1999 Mercedes Benz M Class. Driving on tappan zee bridge near nyc and slowed down to approx 15 mph for toll booth and tried to accelerate out of the tolls. The vehicle was very loud and would not accelerate. It almost sounded like I was driving over rumble strips and I almost crashed trying to pull over as the ez-pass is all the way on the left side of the freeway. After I got out the front passenger rotor/caliper was almost glowing and erupting with smoke, the 3 other brakes looked fine. The smoke did not stop for at least 10-15 minutes and it smelled absolutely terrible even standing 15 feet away from the vehicle. The vehicle had to be flat-bedded to the dealership and they where not able to diagnose the issue, they said it seemed like an electrical problem. After bringing it to another shop they said it was a faulty yaw rate sensor. The failure date was August 20, 2011.

car   Brake Disc Caliper problem of Mercury Milan

The vehicle is a 2009 Mercury Milan. The VIN of this vehicle was 3MEHM08Z29_. Filed a complaint about the same issue in July of 2010. In July of 2010, I replaced the brake pads and rotors. I took the car to the dealer to check the calipers as the rear pads on the passenger side were severely worn and the pads on the driver's side were fine. Dealer indicated the calipers were fine, but had no explanation for the uneven wear. I also contacted Ford directly and they did not have an explanation as to why the pads would wear so unevenly. Back brakes began pulsating again at 44,000 (only 20,000 on pads). I again replaced the pads and rotors as the passenger side was completely worn and driver's side was less than ½ worn. Drove 15 miles and brakes on passenger side were smoking. Towed car on a flatbed to independent mechanic who said passenger side caliper wasn't working. The rotor was warped from the heat, the brand new pads were scorched and the mechanic advised it was a good thing the car was towed to the garage as it was a good chance the area would have caught fire. He replaced the calipers on both sides, the brake pads and turned the rotor on the passenger side. The pads and rotors only had 15 miles on them. The vehicle is on it's 3rd (4th if you count the pads with 15 miles on them) set of pads and rotors and the second set of calipers. This should not happen on a car with 46,000 miles. This issue happened on February 20, 2012.

car   Brake Disc Caliper problem of Mitsubishi Galant

The vehicle is a 2003 Mitsubishi Galant. After replacing front/rear brake pads, calipers, and rotors plus applying the proper lubricant brakes not only still squeal but I am having occasional grinding mainly coming from the front disc. Have had them inspected by multiple mechanics. They said everything looked fine. Diagnosis has yet to be determined not only by mechanics but apparently by Mitsubishi. This is my only transportation after just having to lease this vehicle to find out this is a very common issue that has not had attention from Mitsubishi. I have always owned american made vehicles because of too many fears from foreign manufactures. I chose this vehicle because Mitsubishi has great designs. As for producing a recall for this very known problem. It seems like producing this recall would only put Mitsubishi further in debt. If honor is what your culture live by, then honor this mistake before many lives are lost. This brake disc caliper problem happened on November 4, 2013.

car   Brake Disc Caliper problem of Nissan Titan

The car was a 2005 Nissan Titan. While moving forward from park, the rear tires locked up. I reversed and then moved forward to try to free the tires. The emergency brake was off. It took several times of shifting gears before the vehicle would move freely. I researched the internet and found several other Titan owners had the same problem. They traced the cause to the rear emergency brake pads dislodging from the hub and becoming lodged in the rear rotor. My mechanic removed the rear rotor on the right side and the emergency brake pads fell out. The left side pads were still mounted but with one poke with a screwdriver, the pads fell out. One youtube video shows a Titan with this problem but additionally the brake pad broke the rear caliper bracket. The failure date was Aug. 9, 2013.

The car is a 2010 Subaru Forester. Vehicle identification number (VIN) of the vehicle is JF2SH6AC5A_. At 23,486 miles, I took my car to my local and very reputable garage that specializes in Subarus. Once they got my car in the shop, they told me I was not going anywhere as the car was dangerous. It was towed to st. J. Subaru where I purchased the car. The left rear pad was missing and the caliper had been hitting on the rotor and ruin the caliper. At that initial repair, the Subaru service person said: "we've had some premature wear with the back brakes for some reason. " 20,000 miles later, the same thing has happened again and the dealer gave the party line. . . To bad, warranty up. It appears there is some manufacturer defect with the brakes. Please look into this right away as I cannot afford to replace brakes every 20,000 miles. Thank you. The failure date was Monday, Sep. 9, 2013.

car   Brake Disc Caliper problem of Subaru Outback

The vehicle involved is a 1998 Subaru Outback. We took our Subaru into the dealer to get regular services. We were told that our front drivers side brake was completely ground down while the others were fine and or normal for our mileage. Our car was still under warranty and although the dealers explaination was " a stuck brake caliper" they made us pay for new brakes. And, they failed to give us a new brake caliper. When we asked for the manager, he refused to help us and blamed it on the regional repair manager. We complained for nearly a year and were finally given the money back just for the brake, but since we had brought the car in , they should have fixed the brake caliper as well. This was a problem from the begining and we had bought the car "brand new" . We think this is a an overall manufacturers defect but when we called Subaru corporate offices , they slammed the door in our faces and we were never allowed to talk to a person other than "customer service" in the Subaru corporate offices. We have taken the car to 3 Subaru dealers and all 3 refused to replace the parts and services for free. We have email and other documentation of our communications with them. Please help us. This brake disc caliper issue occurred Wed., Sep. 1, 2010.

car   Brake Disc Caliper problem of Suzuki XL7

The car is a 2007 Suzuki Xl7. There are multiple issues with my 2007 xl-7. Most recently it's been the smell of burning wires coming from either the steering column or under the dashboard which I will need to get inspected ASAP. I read one other complaint posted on 2/29/12 stating the same problem of smelling burning wires which ended in the vehicle being engulfed in flames and the family running for their lives. I've already had a so called tune-up from the local dealer about 1 1/2 years ago, but I now have issues starting the vehicle when I get gas. I have to pump the gas pedal multiple times in order to start the SUV and then it's a rough idle until I start driving. I get the oil change reguarly, but was told on the last oil change the I needed a new oil pan gasket because oil was leaking from the pan. I also had my brakes checked 2 years ago and was told by the mechanic that I have uneven brake pads due to the front brake calipers engaging incorrectly or on one side of the rotors. In order to replace the calipers, get new brake pads and turn the rotors on the front, it would cost me $400+ per the mechanic which I felt was ridiculous. I've never heard of falty brake calipers on a vehichle under 5 years of age as I bought my xl-7 new in 2007 and the brake inspection was between 2009 - 2010. My windsheild wipers failed one year to the point where I now have a scratch on my windsheild. I like the style of the xl-7 and it's horse power and it's not failed me on long road trips, but the recent issue and past issues are very troublesome. I'm very close to paying my SUV off and no longer have the warrantly so I have some decisions to make on whether I should invest the money or get rid of it. A recall on the electrical system should be implemented when considering all the past complaints. By the way, the dealer I purchased my xl-7 from no longer exist. It was Wednesday, May 29, 2013 when this brake disc caliper issue occurred.

Prior to this incident, a loud scraping noise was evident in the vehicle while rolling even without the brakes being depressed and many times the rear of the vehicle smelled like something was burning when it was parked following it being driven. car   Brake Disc Caliper problem of Jaguar X-type

The car involved is a 2007 Jaguar X-type. The VIN of the car is SAJWA51A87_. The engine stalled out when we were traveling in the passing lane at speed on an interstate highway. We had to move to the right side shoulder of the highway in front of another vehicle we had just passed and other traffic coming close behind. Definitely a scary situation for us and the other drivers. We were towed to the nearest jag dealer. The dealer had our car for two weeks. They replaced the fuel pump. The service tech's told us that they had never heard of a fuel pump going bad in an X-type. When I questioned the cost of the job, about $1450, I was told that the fuel tank had to be removed to replace the fuel pump. Since that time, we have had a battery replaced, the second for this car since we have owned it, and had to have brake pads replaced, at which time, we were told that the rear brakes had a problem in the calipers that caused the pads to sit further from the discs than they should. This brake problem causes us to use extra pedal travel when braking the car. Then, on Dec 9, 2013, the rear differential fell out of the bottom of our car. We were only doing about 20 mph so there was no accident, but we had to be towed to a jag dealer about 30 miles away. My research found that when the fuel tank is removed, the differential would also be removed. This was confirmed by the service writer where my jag was towed. One of the differentials bolts broke where it appeared to have been cracked, as if it had been over torqued when installed! the service writer asked to see the work order for the fuel pump work, so I asked him to look it up. He was not able to find the info, because the work was done out of warranty and the jag system does not record out of warranty work! that is probably why the techs never heard of a fuel pump going bad or a differential falling out of a jag car, even though there have been examples of both reported here!. This brake disc caliper problem happened on Dec. 21, 2012.
