car   Brake Disc problem of Chrysler Town & Country

The car was a 2005 Chrysler town and country. Purchased 2005 t&c from dealer. At 23k, brought vehicle in for oil change and brake check as I heard of the premature front brake wear. I questioned the service dept about these reports (in fact, my parents have a Dodge caravan which had the problem) and they denied ever hearing about the problem. Sure enough, my pads were worn down and rotors were beyond machinable tolerance. I took vehicle to a friend mechanic to replace pads and rotors. This problem occurred on 03/13/2007.

car   Brake Disc problem of Dodge Stratus

The car was a 2004 Dodge Stratus. At around 32,000 miles the brake shoe bolts broke, and the shoe got caught in the rim causing 1: the rim (inside) to grind aginst the shoe and forever changing the shape of the rim. 2: bending the calliper. And 3: having the breaks grind the rotor in an unusual manner in which they needed to be grinded down. I was slowing down for the stop light (speed limit was 25, I was going maybe 20), and started to break, the brakes locked up, and was pulling to the left. It was a very violent stop. For a second, I thought that I might have gotten a flat tire, but I got out side of the car after putting it in park, and turning on my hazzards. Looking at the front left tire, I saw that it was fine, looked at all of the other tires, and they are all fine as well. Got back into the car, and put it in drive. Car didnt move. Put it in reverse. . . Car didnt move either. Wondering what was happening, I put the car again, in park, and looked at the tires again. I noticed at this time that something looked different with the rim. I got in for a closer look, and noticed it was pretty badly damaged. I proceeded to lift the car, take the tire off, and as soon as I took the tire off, the shoe was hanging and wasnt bolted in where it should have been. Holy crap, was I mad. Then went into advance auto, to get replacement bolts, and found some, about 3 hours later because they didnt have any in stock, and they had to call around. After putting the bolts on, I drove home at about 20 mph, using about half and half (brakes and e-brake). I did not want that to ever happen again. A day after that happend I took it into the dealer to have them fix the problem. I asked them to fix it anyways. Total bill was around $130. $112 being labor, and $18 for the bolts and other parts. What really burns me up, is that this shouldnt have happend for one, and I'm sol for my rim and calliper. It still makes a scraping sound when I make turns as well. This problem occurred on Wednesday, Mar. 16, 2005.

Midas informed that turning rotors and replacing pads could correct problem but stated it wasn't necessary because there was no evidence of the situation being a hazard. car   Brake Disc problem of Ford F-550

The car is a 1999 Ford F-550 sd. The vehicle identification number (VIN) of the car was 1FDAF57FXE_. Rear disc brake on driver side rear, extreme wear of rotor because of Ford engineering problem. Caliper is located on front of rotor, preventing mud, sand and gravel from self cleaning from rotor. Caliper acts as trap to hold debris against rotor, causing severe deterioration of rotors, including wear into cooling web and seperation of rotor disk from hub. Opposite rotor shows very little wear. Also caliper mounted on front of rotor traps gravel between pads and caliper frame, preventing pads from releasing. This brake problem has occurred now three times in less than one year on this 1999 f550, and three times on our 1999 f450. This brake problem is a severe traffic hazard in the fact that the disc pad can wear into the rotor web, and upon application of brakes at high speed could cause the driver side rear wheel to lock, possibly causing a severe lane change into oncoming traffic. Disc pads should be mounted on rear of rotor so that forward motion of wheels would enable self cleaning. This problem occurred on Tuesday, March 9, 1999.

Driver side rear disc brakes, due to engineering design,(calipers on front of rotor) will not clean debris (mud, sand, gravel) from surface of rotor, this has resulted in two rotors being grounded into cooling web. Can result in shoes locking rotor and causing major accident. We also have a 1999 Ford f550 with the same problem , resulting in 3 rotor changes. We operate commercially in sand, mud (offroad). This brake disc issue occurred Nov. 13, 1998.

car   Brake Disc problem of GMC Yukon

The vehicle having this issue was a 1999 GMC Yukon. The vehicle's vehicle identification number (VIN) is 1GKEK13RXX_. One of the four front brake pads was completely disintigrated and damaged. The front rotors needing to be replaced. GMC service center claims that the brakes are designed to break down within 20000 miles and this is normal. The brake pad failed completely and the front brakes would not operate properly or stop the vehicle. After lengthy discussion and many repeat calls the GMC representative went by the dealership and decided that it was indeed a faulty part. The claim by the service people was that GMC has changed out the brake pads to a softer compound and they will not last more than 20-25000 miles. The immediateness of the failure ( ie. The wear indicators did not work properly) may have been more dangerous if we would have been in a heavy traffic area. This problem occurred on Wednesday, April 28, 1999.

The vehicle involved is a 2001 Volkswagen Passat. My 2001 1/2 Passat has 20,500 miles. Started feeling slight vibration while braking from high speeds ie) 55 to 65 at 18,000 miles. Got worse over time very strong vibration at lower speeds 15 to 55 an that is when I took to car in for service. Felt as if the wheels were going to fall off, as well as, brake system failing. Took car to dealer at 20,500miles. Learn at 20,500 miles my car needs new rotors/disc and some brake pads because of warping. Warping? who ever heard of new rotors/discs on a new car at 20,500 miles for warping. I have since fixed the problem off course out of my own pocket because warranty does not cover "normal wear and tear" well this is not normal wear and tear at 20,500 miles. I have researched the problem in discussion boards on the internet and have come to learn many people are having the same problem. In fact the dealer mentioned he did see the same problem a few times. I think we have product defect here that needs to be microscoped. It involves saftey systems it involves lives.
