car   Brake Grinding Noise problem of Chevrolet HHR

The car involved was a 2008 Chevrolet Hhr. The VIN of this vehicle is 3GNDA33P68_. Since we got the Hhr 3 years ago we have had to replace the rotors 5 different times because they become warped. The new ones only last a month, maybe a 1,000 miles of wear before the brakes start to become warped again. Two months ago before I could get it into the shop to replace the rotors I stepped on the brake doing about 5 mph when I heard a grinding noise. I immediately took it the shop, 50 miles away, to find out that a brake pad was completely missing!!! apparently the warped rotor uneven surface jerked the brake pad out of its setting and that is why it was missing. The mechanic had to do a complete brake (front) job using the best rotors on the market 2 months ago and in less than 1 month, with no heavy braking, the brakes are once again showing signs that the rotors are warped---stepping on the brakes it is jerking once again, and now they are almost as bad as they were when I took them in to get repaired. It is a very dangerous situation especially realizing the possibility of another brake pad coming off when I step on the brake. I have read online so many other people complaining of this same problem with these cars. I strongly feel that there needs to be a recall on these cars before something horrible happens to the occupants riding in these cars. The failure date was Apr. 20, 2014.

Fix for the problems was new front and rear brakes and turn rotors. I had told them I was aware of the issues they have been having and all of the complaints, however it got me nowhere. I contacted Dodge and spoke with a very friendly lady who recognized this was a problem with this model and year. She contacted the dealership and asked them to work with my on taking care of some of the repair costs due to only having 33,700 miles on the vehicle and this being an issue. They refused to do anything to help with the cost. car   Brake Grinding Noise problem of Ford Fusion

I have a 2010 Ford Fusion with 48,000 miles, while driving it I noticed it started to make a grinding noise in the rear. So I took one of the tires off and noticed that the pads were badly worn so I went down to the part store, got new rotors and pads. After intalling, I noticed the rotor on the right rear had a large crack on the backside of the rotor just under where the pad hits the roader. It is almost cracked all around. I am not an egineer, but to me, that is a factory defect and a safety hazard to me and my family; these rotors were in terrible shape for 48,000 miles. One good pot hole, and the whole tire and everything could have came off because of the cracked rotor. There should be a recall for this, thank you for your time. They sent a tow vehicle to pick up the car since it was not safe to drive it to them. Without warning the engine revved, the brake pedal stiffened and the car lurched forward hitting the rear of the vehicle in front of me, doing damage to both vehicles. Research shows that this is not an unheard of complaint or occurance for this make, model, year vehicle as evidinced buy complaints to you. car   Brake Grinding Noise problem of Kia Motor Sportage

The vehicle involved was a 2013 Kia Motor Sportage. After around 13/14k miles, the front brakes began to make extreme noises like very loud sandpaper against metal when backing out of my garage. After the car ran a little bit, they would stop but then it progressed to a constant embarassing noise. I have had it back three times in which they either cleaned or sprayed the rotors. This last visit they have even put a graphite base on them. Two weeks since they did that application, here I am having the same problem even though they tell me the brakes are still good. They wanted to give me a goodwill replacement on the rotors and pads but wanted me to sign off that I would not have further claims. What if my problem is not the pads or rotors? I have owned 5 kia's since 2009 and have never had this problem on any of them. When I now apply the brakes hard, I get an internal grinding noise. This brake grinding noise issue occurred 03/24/14.

car   Brake Grinding Noise problem of Mazda Tribute

The vehicle is a 2005 Mazda Tribute. Crash happened when the problem occurred. I purchased the car new in 2004. I have been complaining about the brakes losing pressure since I purchased my car but the dealership always told me they were fine. I have always had to push my brakes to the floor to stop the vehicle. Sometimes when at a red light I'd sit and pump air into the brakes so they would stop properly. Yesterday I was driving in stop and go traffic and a lady stopped ahead of me but my car would not stop. I had adequate distance to stop. I had the brake pedal to the floor and it felt as if the tires were stuttering/hopping in an attempt to stop. I pressed so hard that my whole leg was in a cramp. I hit the car ahead of me damaging the bumper. I did not slide, the tires are semi-new and in great condition. Also, my rotors failed a few years ago. Had to have them replaced all round as well as another part of the braking system. I have also had the grinding noise and the air hissing from the brakes. This has been an issue for a long time and I've asked Mazda about recalls and their haven't been any. With the number of complaints on the internet I don't feel it is right for the consumers to have to continue paying financially, through insurance or personal injury for the manufacturer's default. The failure date was Jun. 6, 2012.

car   Brake Grinding Noise problem of Mazda Tribute

The vehicle was a 2004 Mazda Tribute. When the brakes are applied, the brake peddle pulsate, the brakes grind and vibrate the car, and the car pulls to the left. No indicators lights light up. The pulsating in the brake pedal is the same as one would feel when the abs engages, but the grinding and pulling to the left are not normal. The vehicle's brakes were inspected and the technician said they did not need replacement as they were not worn. I explained the pulsating and they agreed to replace them. They replaced the pads and rotors. They did not test drive the vehicle at that time. Upon leaving the garage and braking, I heard and felt the same symtoms as I described above, although not as severe. Due to the late hour, I continued home. A couple weeks later my husband took the vheicle back to the garage. This time the technician drove it to see for himself. Upon his inspection, he found some rust, but indicated the brakes and rotors were in working order. The pulsating of the brake pedal, the grinding noise, and the pulling to the left have become more pronounced whenever the brake pedal is depressed. It does not matter that the pedal is depressed gently, the symptoms still occur. I reviewed my recall inspection paperwork from 06/14. 07 performed by a Mazda delaership. Mty paperwork notes the technician should "perform 4507c recall. Performed recall to Mazda guidelines. " the paperwork does not idicate whether anything was found to be defective. It was under warranty at the time. I called the Mazda corporate office at 800-222-5500 this afternoon and spoke with a representative. He indicated that if a dealership performed the recall inspection and did not find anything wrong at the time, that the recall was completed. I asked if the recall issues were now occuring on my car, even though nothing was found in 2007, would Mazda repair the equipment. This brake grinding noise issue occurred Sat., Sep. 3, 2011.

car   Brake Grinding Noise problem of Nissan Titan

The car involved was a 2009 Nissan Titan. In July 2013, I noticed a loud squealing noise coming from the rear wheel while driving. When I got home I took the wheel off and it was noted that the parking brake pad on the drivers side had separated from the brake shoe itself. There were big chunks of brake pad stuck in the wheel. The pieces were removed and placed in a bag. I brought the pieces to my local dealer on the next oil change and inquired why this happened. The service rep said that this type of thing happened more often than you would think. In January 2014, I kept hearing a thumping noise coming from my passengers side rear wheel. I wrote to Nissan about the parts quality and safety concerns I had and they wanted the vehicle inspected by a certified Nissan dealer to establish the cause of the problem and whether it was a covered part. On the way to the dealer, something shifted in my rear wheel on the passengers side causing a loud grinding noise. The approx. Speed was 25 mph. When the service tech at the dealer pulled the wheel off, he found the parking brake pads to be separated from the brake shoes. The pads became entangled in the wheel causing further damage. The truck required new brake shoes, adjuster assemblies, spring set, and toggle lever. Nissan ultimately declined to accept responsibility for the repair. I feel this is a major safety issue. The parts are not wearing out like they should, they are failing while the vehicle is in motion and could potentially cause an accident. Also, while the vehicle was being serviced, the tech pointed out that the exhaust flange that connects my tailpipe to the muffler had rotted out. I happened to notice that there is a current complaint(id#10485804) on the NHTSA website. A decent part of the exhaust system would need to be replaced in order to replace this part. This appears to be a design flaw. This problem occurred on 07/15/13.

car   Brake Grinding Noise problem of Subaru Legacy

The car involved is a 2001 Subaru Legacy. Crash was involved with this problem. Driving on secondary road - well know to me - at dusk @ 45 mph approaching an intersection with a major road. Began to tap gently on brake to ease to my "yield" or stop in case driver on other road did not do so. Each time I hit brakes, the engine would rev up & pull forward @ increased speed. After several attempts to brake, I attemted to downshift, put in park and pull up parking brake -- all to no avail, except engine and front end made loud grinding noises. The car would still not stop and when I was about 25' from the intersection, I had no choice but to drive into a "snow bank" which turned out to be several inches of snow over a pile of gravel. There was damage to the front of the car & it was towed. The tow truck driver had a difficult time starting the car so he could winch it onto his flatbed truck. The car was towed to the Subaru dealer from whom I purchased the car. The service manager maintains that the problem was caused by "birdseed in the filter" in the air box going to the throttle. (he also said the seed indicated that there may have been a mouse nest, but he found no evidence of a nest at that time. ) I told him that I found that hard to believe since my car is in a heated area of the garage and any mice have much warmer places to stay. My own mechanic said the birdseed explanation was implausible and, if anything, the birdseed would have led the car to stall out - not increase acceleration. I checked your web site and found other 2001 legacies with "fuel: throttle linkages & control problems. I printed these out and took them to the dealer. He said he checked the throttle linkages and controls electronically and found them to be fine but would not put this in writing. He stands fast on his birdseed explanation. Am an experienced & safe driver - have "platinum" level of safe driver discount. This car is my 6th new Subaru in under 20 years. Have always found them reliable in the past. Am afraid to drive this car. It was January 16, 2004 when this brake grinding noise issue occurred.

car   Brake Grinding Noise problem of Suzuki Grand Vitara

The vehicle having this issue was a 2006 Suzuki Grand Vitara. The VIN of this vehicle is JS3TD94406_. Brake pedal goes almost all the way to the floor before engaging and at times there is a grinding noise from the front of the vehicle. When I took it to get the brakes checked, the pads were fine, but one of the calipers was misaligned. When I took the Suzuki Grand Vitara in to get the recalled power steering tensioner pulley replaced, and for servicing, they loaned me a vehicle. I almost went though the windshield with the functional brakes of the loaner, actually any brakes on any other vehicle I drive. It almost feels as if the brake pedal will go all the way to the floor. I have had to use my automatic transmission gears to slow the vehicle down. Brake shoes, pads whatever they are called are fine. The dealership doesn't think that safety is a concern. Also, I might add that the replaced power steering tensioner pulley now creates a severe knocking noise in the engine (that did not exist prior to the replacement). I have returned to the dealer 4 times to repair . . . Apparently, Suzuki has also issued another technical bulletin to decrease the knocking, but it is still there!. It was Friday, September 10, 2010 when this brake grinding noise issue happened.

car   Brake Grinding Noise problem of Volkswagen Routan

The car involved is a 2010 Volkswagen Routan. Purchased the vehicle from the dealership in April 2011. We took a family vacation in June and noticed that the vehicle shut itself off a few times while in motion; causing the vehicle to lose power and all steering. On the same trip, when using the key fob, the entire electrical system would freeze and shut itself off. It eventually turns back on after 5 or so minutes. The wynn module was replaced. Before departing for the vacation, we had brake issues with them making a grinding noise and , sometimes no stopping power. Dealer replaced rotors. The passenger slider doors have issues. When closing, the door's safety mechanism would not back track the doors when it hit something coming or going into/out of the vehicle. The door shut on my son! the vehicle has been to the dealership more times than a new vehicle should. . . . Did I mention that we still have brake issues and electrical issues. It seems that all the dealership can say is that we cannot duplicate the situation. Each time that the vehicle goes to the dealer, they have it for a week or more! I have owned Chrysler/Dodge products before this and this is why I went to a vw. Needless to say, I didn't do my homework before purchasing. It seems that this vw is a "Chrysler". As of today, 15 January, I am looking into the "lemon law" and possibly seeking legal action. Something needs to be done. Why do we have to wait until this vw vehicle causes serious damage to property, person and maybe even death before the NHTSA looks into the vw situations?. The failure date was Monday, June 27, 2011.

car   Brake Grinding Noise problem of Buick Rendezvous

The car involved was a 2003 Buick Rendezvous. Over the past two years I have had three front hubs replaced and the saddle for the traction system. All done at the advise of a Buick dealer. This past year I telephoned Buick and requested their help, as I felt Buick should know how to correct this recurring problem, but to no avail. Both the antilock brakes and the traction systems are off, and the car sounds as if it is raw metal on metal. I am again occasionally hearing the grinding noise, which usually indicates another problem (with substantial cost) is on the way. This issue happened on 02/02/2010.

car   Brake Grinding Noise problem of Cadillac CTS

The car involved was a 2007 Cadillac Cts. The vehicle identification number (VIN) is 166DP57797_. Hello, I have had my brakes pulsate (with a grinding noise) then fail while making a hard right turn on several occasions since last summer. This only happens at slow speeds such as pulling into a parking spot. Fortunately, I have not hit anything or anyone. I have had every recall fixed on my car up to date. I work next-door to a Cadillac dealership and john, my service writer told me there are no recalls or bulletins. I am very conscious about how and where I park. Please help get the word out to this problem. Throwing money at parts not needed to fix the problem is very expensive, as you can read on the forum from others like me. Its just a matter of time before someone gets hurt. Thank you. Regards, brenda. This brake grinding noise issue occurred 06/02/12.

car   Brake Grinding Noise problem of Jaguar S-type

I purchased this 2007 Jaguar S-type in Nov 2013. Approximately 1 month ago I started having an issue with the electronic parking brake not releasing itself when the car was shifted out of the "park" position. It takes a good 15-20 minutes of driving the vehicle and applying the brakes several times before the electronic parking brake will disengage itself. It has gotten to the point now that the brake pads have worn to the point of initial grinding noise being heard, which is a clear indicator of excessive wear. I did some research online a couple of nights ago, so as to confirm if there have been any Jaguar S-type "recalls" for this type of problem, and in fact found that there have been many reported instances of them for this exact problem. In fact, the problem can escalate itself if the electronic parking brake were to engage itself on its own while the car is in motion, causing the rear brakes/tires to lock up. . . . . An obvious safety issue. The recall numbers are r166 and r167, but in contacting Jaguar corporate customer service, as well as a local Jaguar service dealership, I was informed that while my issue appears to be mirroring these prior recalls, there is not an actual recall currently "open" on the 2007 Jaguar S-type model year vehicle. This to me seems ridiculous. What should it matter what the manufactered year of the vehicle is? if the problem is the same problem as has occurred on prior year models, why wouldn't the existing recall/s simply be expanded to include the additional model year/s, 2007 in this case? any assistance/direction in regards to having this matter addressed that could possibly be sent my way would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, chris unrein. This problem occurred on Wed., Feb. 26, 2014.
