car   Brakes Failed problem of Chevrolet Cruze

The car was a 2012 Chevrolet Cruze. My teenage daughter drives this car. Along with a number of service issues and down time in the shop, it has been nothing short of a disappointment. She now has a braking issue that is consistent with the recall that was issued in October of 2013 (12213). She was driving the car at 15-20 mph and the brakes failed when depressed. She then had to push again, this time harder and barely missed a car in front of her, thus freaking her out completely. Now she will not drive this car again as she does not feel safe. We took the car into the dealer and without any secondary notice saying that the parts are available, they had them in house. . . Really? does this take a fatality for g. M to do the right thing and be on top of their business?. This brakes failed issue occurred 05/14/14.

The abs and traction control light came on. The vehicle was able to be moved over to the side of the road without incident. Restarted the vehicle and it operated as normal. The second incident occurred while moving the vehicle around 5 miles an hour when the engine shut off again. Power steering and brakes failed to work. The third incident occurred traveling about 30 miles an hour with the same issues as above. The vehicle has been at the dealer twice with no solution at this time. There is a recall after the timeframe of this vehicle manufacture for the ignition module 11v139000. It would seem the recall needs to be extended as there are more issues related to the engine stopping for more than just the 2010 model. It was Oct. 20, 2013 when this brakes failed issue happened.

car   Brakes Failed problem of Dodge Grand Caravan

The VIN of the problem Grand Caravan is 2C4RDGBG3C_. Chrysler refuses to acknowledge a serious defect in the braking system of the Dodge Grand Caravans. I purchased a new 2012 Grand Caravan from a dealership. On July 31, 2013, quirk dealership in braintree, MA replaced rear rotors on the van at 17,000 miles because "rear rotors were very marked up and had rust rings. " on January 18, 2014, same dealership told me that rotors were pitted again at 27,000 miles and had to be replaced for $502. 00 (out of pocket). When I protested that mopar parts should not fail in less than 6 months, the service person told me that "dodges are known for these problems. " I contacted Chrysler customer assistance to see if they would cover their defective parts and have been given the total run around. Chrysler offered me $60. 00 off the price of the brake job but I declined because factory parts should not fail so quickly. I checked the internet (lemon law blog, car complaints, etc. ) and found hundreds if not thousands of complaints similar to mine for premature brake failure in 2006-2012 caravans & town and country's. Chrysler is aware of this problem and is trying to avoid responsibility for repairing this known defect by passing the cost on to american consumers. A recall should be ordered for these vehicles based on premature brake failure that Chrysler is deliberately ignoring. It was 01/18/14 when this brakes failed issue happened.

car   Brakes Failed problem of Honda Civic

VIN of the vehicle was 2HGFA15596_. Crash was involved with this problem. I had a car accident on the huntingdon side of pine groves mountain on PA 26 south. I drove a Honda Civic 06 lx. When I was going down the mountain, I applied the brake normally to slow down before a curve when the speed was at 60 mph, but my car was drifting, not like hydroplaning at all. There was no water to cause that but it rained five to six hours before the accident. During the whole course of incident, the steering wheel was not responsive. When it started to drift, it skidded towards the incoming lane. I tried to correct the steering wheel slightly, it took much more force to operate the steering wheel and the direction was not corrected, so I adjusted it more. Then the head suddenly turned 60 to 80 degrees and hit the guardrail and then the car turned more than 180 degrees clockwise; then the tail hit a stop-sign pole and the car stopped in the mud. Since the car was still drivable, I did not call the police to check the scene. I think it was caused by Honda's design defects since I had goodyear four-season tires with more than enough grids, so I want to hire an investigator to investigate my case and ask Honda to buy the car back. But none of the law firms I contacted could help me. During the whole course, there was no car coming in both directions. Two cars passed me by when I was pulling my car out of mud but none of them stopped, so I guess there was no witness. The first time when I applied the brake again after the incident, I felt the brake was flimsy, so I drove much slower later, at around 40 mph. I am not sure if the brake could handle that wet road again, but most of time at most places the brake does not fail, so I assume I experienced a case, on wet road with downhill gravity, that the car is incapable of handling. This brakes failed problem happened on Friday, Apr. 11, 2014.

car   Brakes Failed problem of Hyundai Genesis

The vehicle involved is a 2009 Hyundai Genesis. Crash was involved with this problem. Forty five minutes after picking up my new ( to me ) car at the dealership I had purchased it from I was driving down the road and in an instant I had to step on the brakes hard because the truck in front of me stopped quickly to make a left hand turn. Upon doing so the brake pedal went all the way down and I crashed into the truck. After the crash I restarted the car to move it to the side of the road and it stopped normally like it should. I was left with the feeling that I had no brakes for that instant. Totally un aware of a brake recall on the new car, when I found out later that night about the recall I was upset because I couldnt believe that a well established 30 years in business dealership would sell me a car and not have mentioned or even taken care of it. On the following Monday after the accident I called Hyundai motor of America to verify that my new to me Genesis had never been recalled (repaired yet ) . Hyundai said they were sorry and sent me out an investigation packet that I am currently filling out and gathering information for. They also asked me what I was seeking from Hyundai. I replied. I wanted my car fixed perfect. The truck I hit repaired. My recall taken care of and would like some sort of statement or document stating that my car was prone to brake failure so I can appeal the sir charge I will recieve from my insurance company for the next five years at 500-600 per year for an at fault accident. My car was towed away to a body shop with considerable damage and is currently unable to be driven. This brakes failed issue occurred Saturday, Apr. 19, 2014.

car   Brakes Failed problem of Hyundai Genesis

The vehicle was a 2009 Hyundai Genesis. I was traveling approximately 25 mph in a residential neighborhood, preparing to come to a stop at an intersection when I depressed the brake pedal and it went all the way to the floor without stopping the car. I pumped the brakes and it then engaged and stopped the car. I carefully and slowly drove the car to the dealership the following morning. After inspecting the car, the dealership told me that the hecu and abs module would need to be replaced and the brake fluid flushed and replaced. They said this would cost about $3,000 and they contacted my extended warranty insurance carrier to attempt to get the cost covered by insurance. A day later the dealership told me that the insurance company had sent an inspector out to test drive the car and would send another inspector tomorrow to inspect the hecu and abs module and they're still attempting to work with them to get the cost covered. I took the car in for the safety recall on 10/24/13 and the brake fluid was replaced, and I also had new brakes installed on 3/8/14, yet I still had the brakes fail a month later. Hyundai should be doing the repairs without question and instead they're trying to get the extended warranty insurance carrier to cover it and I'm having to wait it out while they bicker about costs. It was April 6, 2014 when this brakes failed issue occurred.

A consumer affairs rep from Infiniti indicated the roll has been reproduced many times. She stated when the vehicle was turned off, the brake mechanism engaged the left rear wheel only. car   Brakes Failed problem of Jeep Grand Cherokee

The car involved is a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While driving the speed limit on the highway I was approaching slow traffic. I tried to apply the breaks but the brakes were hard and failed to work properly. The vehicle did slow down a little bit but not enough to stop the vehicle. I was going 55mph and then traffic slowed to about 20-25mph but couldn't. I had to veer off into the left lane to avoid hitting the car in front of me. It wasn't the anti-lock brakes kicking in either. I the brakes were just failing. The second occurrence was the next day when I was approaching an intersection to make a right hand turn I tried to apply the brakes but again the brakes were hard, as if the pedal fully depressed without applying any brake. Luckily I was cautious from the previous incident and was approaching the intersection at a low rate of speed. I was able to just barely make the turn without colliding with another car. Thankfully there weren't any pedestrians crossing the street, in new york city this is a rarity. After all this happened I checked any recalls with my vehicle and saw the brake booster recall. I called two Jeep dealers ( bayside Jeep in NY and east hills Jeep in NY) and both gave me a hard time saying that there is not a recall out for my vehicle. They are saying my VIN # does not have a recall against it but Jeep hasn't assigned the recall to any specific VIN #s, they say to just bring it in to get checked out. Since this wasn't a mandatory recall to my VIN# I wasn't given an appointment for service for 1week at bayside Jeep and 2days later at east hills Jeep. I was given attitude and didn't even care that this was a major safety issue. It was 04/20/14 when this brakes failed issue happened.

He told me no refunds and I found out within three days I should of gotten my refund back. car   Brakes Failed problem of Mazda CX9

The vehicle having this issue was a 2010 Mazda cx-9. There was crash involved with this problem. I filed a complaint through Mazda in 2012 and it didn't go anywhere. I saw an article in USA today, regarding my vehicle stating that an investigation was started due to 7 reported incidents on brake failures which resembled my experience. I am now sharing my story as it could have resulted in serious injury. I was approaching an intersection and applied the break but the car did not slow down, I pushed the brake all the way to the floor and the wheels squealed but the car did not slow. I let up on the brake and reapplied and that is when the car began to slow down. But, it was too late. I hit the car in front of me and launched it into the middle of the intersection. Thankfully, the light had just changed and the cross traffic was at a stop. When the police arrived, they noticed one skid mark on the driver side only which was around 200 yards. About 4 feet prior to impact, there were two skid marks, one on each side of the vehicle. They said that they had never seen anything like it and that I should take it to an independant person to get the brakes checked out. I have photos of this and sent all of the documentation sent to the insurance company and to Mazda. I felt neither believed me and was very diappointed in Mazda's response. Eventially, I gave up. We actually were going to sell the vehicle as I didn't feel comfortable driving it. However, after all of the responses I was getting about what I described as impossible with anti lock breaks or that it was a result of "panic breaking", I second guessed myself and we still have the vehicle. On a separate occassion 2-4 weeks prior to the accident on may 15, my husband was driving very slowly in a residential area and when he applied the break, the car initially did not stop until reapplying. He rolled part way into the intersection. I was with him when this occurred. This brakes failed problem happened on 05/15/2012.

Brought to the Mazda dealer, told them about ongoing investigation by NHTSA about Mazda Cx9 2010-2011 brake problems. They did a thorough check but could not duplicate the problem so nothing was fixed. It might be the brake booster. I'm afraid this might happen again, they said there was no recall regarding brakes for 2011 Mazda Cx9. Hope that NHTSA forces Mazda to make a recall. Mazda has to fix this dangerous problem. car   Brakes Failed problem of Mercury Mariner Hybrid

The car involved is a 2008 Mercury Mariner Hybrid. Regenerative braking system light appeared on dash, 2013. Took vehicle in to get checked. Was told that it was the master cyclinder. Cost approx 1500. 00. Went on line and found that other people had same experience and after paying for the replacement of the master cyclinder they then had to replace the an abs module to the tune of 4500. 00. Took my vehicle to another dealership Feb of 2014 and was told the abs module needed replaced for 4,724. 00 and then the master cyclinder for 1360. 00. The mechanic did not advise driving due to the potential brake failure. I only have 18,600 miles on this vehicle which makes it difficult to justify putting that much more money into it. It seems to to a problem Ford needs to deal with. It does involve a safety issue and I'm not sure if they are going to wait until some one dies before they decide to do a recall. After 4 months, the same thing occurred after leaving a highway at a light. Ok again for a few months, there was a 3rd incident, but I can t remember the details. I hit a small pot hole and the abs came on. I lost my pedal again. When I shut the car off, the system reset and it was fine. Now whenever the abs is used, I lose my pedal without warning. It no longer resets. My mechanic has to bleed the system to get my pedal back. Im afraid to drive the car in bad weather. I have had 6 or 7 brake failures in the last 18 months. It was Tuesday, October 9, 2012 when this brakes failed issue happened.

car   Brakes Failed problem of Mitsubishi Montero

The vehicle was a 2001 Mitsubishi Montero. The VIN of this vehicle was JA4MW31R11_. Recall on abs accumulator was performed years ago. Brakes once again failed almost completely with wife and 3 children. Luckily she remembered the parking brake and was able to stop. New accumulator replaced and brakes were again fine for 3 days. . . Complete failure again. Dealer informs us that the entire abs assembly needs replaced at a total cost and labor of around (between) $2800. And $3600. 00. The recalled part (the accumulator) I am finding is a direct result of the entire abs assembly damage. If the pump tries and continues to try and fill the leaking accumulator the pump fails. As a result the pump and abs control (brain) module are all in one and the entire assembly needs to be replaced. What recourse do we have? how can we get Mitsubishi to replace this defective "complete assembly" the vehicle is now useless as we save our pennies and scrape together what we can to fix a problem that we nor anyone else should have to fix. I see many reports of accidents due to this very problem. Please help!. This brakes failed problem happened on 11/15/2013.

car   Brakes Failed problem of Subaru Tribeca

The car involved was a 2008 Subaru Tribeca. Vehicle identification number (VIN) of the vehicle is 4S4WX91D28_. When the outside temperature dips below 20 degrees f, the brakes fail to work. This has happened 5 times now in the year 2014. This has happened each time my car has sat out in the cold temperatures (<20 degrees) for 8 hours (while at work). When pulling out of my space in the outdoor parking garage, my brake pedal becomes hard and I am unable to depress it. My car will not stop. Applying hard pressure slows it down. This has happened on dry pavement. I once had to use the emergency brake to stop. It has also occurred once after I was operating the car for at least 15 minutes. I have had the car to the dealership twice in the last 3 months since this started. Each time they are unable to duplicate the problem and cannot find anything wrong. I have also emailed Subaru customer service and they stated the dealership would have to duplicate the brake problem in order to fix it. This is a huge safety concern; not to menion I have 2 small children traveling in the car with me. No one seems that worried about it but me. It is all over internet car forums that this happens with Subaru brakes when the temperatures dip. The dealership and Subaru claim they have not heard of this problem. I am extremely frustrated with Subaru. It was Jan. 6, 2014 when this brakes failed issue happened.

car   Brakes Failed problem of Subaru Outback

The vehicle having this issue was a 2011 Subaru Outback. The car had a crash. I pulled up into my driveway coming home from shopping as usual, it was approximately 5:45pm on Jan 7, 2014. The road to my house and my driveway have an incline. I pulled in my driveway which was dry (the street was icy) stopped, turned off car, put my foot on the brake to use the emergency brake. My foot brake went to the floor, no tension, I tried it over and over as my car was rolling backwards, went to hit the electronic emergency brake, nothing happened my car was off rolling backwards out of control picking up speed, I thought the only thing that will stop this car is when it hits something, and thank god no one was hurt! it hit the electrical box and mailbox and knocked power out in my cul-DE-sac. The electric box flipped over and caught my rear tire and stopped the car! this was a complete brake failure, no way to stop the car!! very scary! I have been driving a manual transmission since I was a teenager and I am 59. I have video of the officer pushing the electronic brake not engaging!. This brakes failed problem happened on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014.

This also occurred on very cold evening at work the temperature was somewhere around 10 deg f. This time I had to pull the parking brake to stop. After pulling into the garage and letting the car warm up it did not happen again. I am concerned this could happen when driving and cause an accident. car   Brakes Failed problem of Toyota Camry Hybrid

The vehicle involved was a 2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid. This complain is on behalf of my wife's Camry Hybrid, same issue I had in my 2009 Camry Hybrid few years back, sudden warning lights on dash and brake failure resuming normal operation few seconds or minutes later without leaving any trace for tech to see, if it was cheaper for gm not to recalling $. 50 part I sure Toyota would not want to recall $1700 part, please look into it I have the old defective part available for testing if necessary. It was Wednesday, March 19, 2014 when this brakes failed issue happened.

car   Brakes Failed problem of Toyota Camry Hybrid

The car involved is a 2009 Toyota Camry Hybrid. Driving down the road all lights on dash appeared (abs, trac, brake, check engine, master warning, check vsc system) with no warning and complete brake loss followed with it, then it would disappeare and brakes functioned properly, seems temp related as it would only happen on cold days, and when car is cold early in the morning, during day when engine warm everything worked fine, tech could not find anything wrong with the car twice until left over night found out to be faulty brake actuator assembly. This is only related to Camry Hybrids not prius or other Toyota hybrids, my whole family drives Toyotas hybrids father in law and 2 brothers have priuses I also had prius for long time never had issue, now me and my wife switched to Camry Hybrids and both Camry Hybrids experienced same brake failure with faulty brake actuator, no coincidence, there is something unique about Camry Hybrid brake actuator that makes it go bad in very dangerous way, problem accurs sudden and disappears without trace for technician to find out what's wrong " everything is fine car is safe to drive" is what they said, but in mornimg commute brakes failed again. I dont care the replacement part costs $1700 but its the same part that will fail again who know when. Toyota needs replace the actuators with ones that are on priuses or address the issue and redesign the unit. This brakes failed problem happened on Nov. 23, 2011.

car   Brakes Failed problem of Volkswagen CC

The car was a 2012 Volkswagen Cc. The vehicle identification number (VIN) of this Volkswagen Cc is WVWMP7AN0C_. One month after I purchased my certified, pre-owned vw Cc the brakes failed without warning. They worked one moment and then totally failed without any warning signal of any kind. I managed to avoid the vehicle in front of me which was stopped at a red light, and I was fortunate not to cause an accident as I had to run through the red light. Fortunately there were no accidents, and no injuries. Burlington vw of new jersey initially indicated they would perform a full diagnostic on the failed part (vacuum pump) and associated equipment to provide me reassurance that there would be no increased potential for the failure to happen again. They also represented they would offer me something to "make the situation right". Neither has occurred. The issue has been elevated to the vw ceo whose office has done nothing but to tell me they will not fulfill the dealership's representations. In addition to refusing to look into the problem or providing a written letter offering me an assurance of safety, they will not consider my request for a reverse sale. Instead they wrote me a letter congratulating me on my purchase, and due to the brake failure, they will support their balance of the warranty. Since when do I need a letter from the corporate office indicating they will honor a term of the original sale? one would think that since their own head of mechanics indicated he has not seen this issue before, that corporate would desire to investigate the cause of this very premature problem without my prompting. In fact, they have used the fact that there was not an accident against me, as this would have initiated a different course of action. Since there was no accident, they are not willing to pursue the issue any further. There are so many quality vehicles on the market. I would suggest you choose one other than a vw. This issue happened on Fri., Mar. 7, 2014.

car   Brakes Failed problem of Volkswagen Jetta

The vehicle having this issue was a 2010 Volkswagen Jetta. The vehicle's vehicle identification number (VIN) is 3VWRL7AJ2A_. After failing inspection last week for the second time in two years, I preceded to change the rear brakes (which were the reason for the inspection failure). The driver's side rear brake pad was wore completely to the metal. The passenger's side looked as though it had come directly out of the box, no wear at all. The parking brake was not hung up, wheels spun freely after replacing both sides. This was the same case when the vehicle failed inspection two years, approximately 40,000 miles, ago. After reading many other Jetta owners have experienced similar issues with the rear brakes failing prematurely, I decided to submit this issue to NHTSA. This issue happened on Sunday, Mar. 30, 2014.

car   Brakes Failed problem of Volvo C30

The VIN of the problem C30 is YV1672MK3C_. A message that read "abs brake system needs service" came on in my 2012 Volvo C30 Tuesday, March 18. I called the service dept of the dealership - he said he knew what it was and to bring it in either thurs or fri. I chose Friday morning. Wednesday about 3pm as I was downshifting to slow then applied my brakes there was no braking action. I was able to pull into the left turn lane to avoid running into the car ahead of me and then the brakes engaged. I pulled over and called the dealership. They said bring it in right then. I was a bit flustered and so stupidly drove the car into dealership about 4 or 5 miles away from where I was. When I picked the car the next morning, I asked what the issue was. The service person said that some component of the brake came apart (I don't recall if he said the name of the part) and they put a clamp on it. I asked how long this issue had been occurring - he said for "more than a year". I've subsequently called the owner of the dealership and he was aware of the issue but said there was no recall from Volvo and he couldn't afford to repair the problem on all the C30s until the issue arose and Volvo would then reimburse his dealership for the repair. I then called Volvo customer care April 16th and could not get a straight answer from the person I spoke with about whether or not they were aware of this issue. Clearly I will be selling this car but want to ensure the public is made aware of the possibility of a brake failure on the 2012 C30s. Updated 5/21/cn. This brakes failed problem happened on Mar. 19, 2014.

The vehicle identification number (VIN) is WBAKG7C55C_. My 2012 BMW 335i couple m sport package (automatic) engine stalls randomly (5 times since purchasing the car in November of 2013). As a result, the power steering fails and power brake assist also fails. Resulting in some scary situations indeed. This typically happens between 5-40 mph. Engine typically restarts after 10-15 min. The last time this has happened was on 5/21/14 at around 9am pst. I was stranded on CA highway 85. Vehicle has only 7k miles. car   Brakes Failed problem of BMW X3

The vehicle involved was a 2013 BMW X3. Crash happened when the problem occurred. In stop and go traffic on the interstate I was braking after moving forward a few feet and the engine started racing causing the car to lurch forward (given I was on the brake) until the brake would not hold any longer at which point the car accelerated in traffic despite me pushing even harder on the brake. The brake was completely unresponsive at this point. I avoided rear ending the car in front of me by swerving around him but could not avoid the vehicle farther ahead in traffic and hit the right rear of a uhaul storage unit towed by a vehicle and the BMW flipped onto its right side. Miraculously, we walked away with only minor cuts, scrapes, and bruises. Seat restraints and airbags worked perfectly which is the only kind thing we can now say despite having no prior issues. Whether it is an onboard computer malfunction or not we will never own another BMW. . . And if the other online posts have been there when I purchased the vehicle in sept 2012 (and had I read them) then I never would have purchased the vehicle. Coupled with other carcomplaint. Com, BMW community blogs, and NHTSA posts surrounding 2012 and 2013 X3 events of the identical nature there should be an immediate investigation as to the simultaneous and concurrent event of the throttle acceleration while braking, and the brakes failing (as if the computer thinks the brake pedal is the gas pedal?) . . And a recall before deaths occur . . . Though it is likely they've already occurred since the dead can't testify as to a problem that other BMW dealer service departments fail to replicate and therefore discount. The back hatch of our vehicle also flipped open allowing items to fall onto the highway (despite no impact to the rear of the vehicle) though all passenger car doors remained closed. The vehicle has been totaled. We would certainly not get into that car ever again even if it were repairable. The failure date was 04/13/2014.
