car   Engine Grinding Noise problem of Chevrolet Colorado

The car is a 2007 Chevrolet Colorado. The vehicle identification number (VIN) of the car was 1GCDT19977_. Pulling into parking spot and truck came to dead halt, looked down and the 4 wheel low had engaged. Vehicle wouldn't move and made awful grinding noises finally got it back into 2 wheel drive. (note the 4 wheel had stopped working completely at the end of February during a cold snap and lots of snow) went to drive home and truck again engaged into 4 low at 70 mph on highway immediately slowing me down to 20 and almost throwing me out of control. Have no idea if it made grinding noises then as I thought I was going to crash. There was an officer behind me that almost hit me but he followed me home to make sure the truck got there. There have been numerous other little issues with the truck like not starting, rear brakes blowing apart,u joints went out at 25,000 miles, engine not sealed properly per mechanic as got water in it last year. This engine grinding noise problem happened on Sunday, March 16, 2014.

car   Engine Grinding Noise problem of Chrysler 300C

The vehicle's vehicle identification number (VIN) was 2C3KA63H56_. My 2006 Chrysler 300c was a car that was well taken care of. It had less than 90,000 miles at the date of the incident. I was in a drive-thru and I turned off the car to save fuel. When I went to restart the vehicle, the car made a loud grinding noise that sound similar to sticking a baseball card in bicycle spokes but much louder and stronger. I had the car towed to chuck clancy Chrysler and I was informed that a valve seat had dropped and destroyed several cylinders. The bill was $3,000. This car was always maintained by maintenance records and the oil changed with pennzoil platinum ultra. To add to this story, I received the car back and the same issue happened again two weeks later. Needless to say, I was out another $4000 for this repair. Chrysler refused to cover it and gave me the cold shoulder. I would never purchase a Chrysler product again. This engine grinding noise problem happened on Tue., May. 15, 2012.

car   Engine Grinding Noise problem of Chrysler 300C

The car was a 2006 Chrysler 300c. After returning home from work, I noticed a knocking/grinding sound coming from my engine. I have taken the car to a Chrysler dealer and they told me that there is internal engine damage, most likely the lifter push rod part of the engine. I was informed by Chrysler customer service that there were some vehicles of this class that had been covered under a recall for the lifter problem, but that the recall was VIN specific. When I asked how the determination was made as to which vehicles were covered and how the coverage was extended, I could not get a answer. It is not right that a vehicle of the same class as mine is subject to a recall and my vehicle was not. Neither do I understand why I could not be told by Chrysler if they had attempted to contact the owner of the vehicle at the time the recall took place. That in order that when the vehicle was sold, that pertinent information could be transmitted during the sale. Absent this information, whom do I as a buyer, unknowning place responsibility?. This issue happened on 09/01/13.

car   Engine Grinding Noise problem of Dodge Grand Caravan

The vehicle was a 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan. We were pulling out of a parking lot when the motor started making a grinding sound. We drove it straight home and the next morning took it to a local shop to have it checked out. They stated the screws that were holding the engine to the mount had been sheared off on one side and the engine had fallen onto the front axel. The screws on the other side were completely stripped and were also in the process of being sheared in half. The mechanic stated he felt this was due to the engine mount screws not being properly tightened at the factory. We took it to the local Dodge dealership and they stated they could not determine how this had happened because the screws were sheared off but they would not claim any fault. They also stated it would not be covered under our warranty because it's not part of the power-train. The vehicle is only three years old and to have the motor fall out during driving does not seem like standard wear and tear. The vehicle has never been involved in any kind of accident or collision and has had all the appropriate preventative maintenance as outlined by Dodge. It was Mar. 5, 2014 when this engine grinding noise issue happened.

car   Engine Grinding Noise problem of Ford Focus

The vehicle was a 2014 Ford Focus. Jerking upon gears changing. . Grinding sound upon acceleration and when turning left. Took it to the dealership, they determined at 900 miles the car needed a new clutch. This was replaced thinking it would fix the shifting issues and the grinding noise. The grinding noise came back yesterday as well as the car trying to cut off and idling very low at stop signs/stop lights. . The grinding continued through 3rd gear. The dealership is still trying to determine what is causing this sound. Replacing the clutch did fix the jerking and hard shifting issues however the grinding sound is still an issue. car   Engine Grinding Noise problem of Ford Focus

The vehicle is a 2014 Ford Focus. Trouble with the dual clutch automatic transmission from the first day of ownership. The car now has 6k miles and the problems persist. The following problems are even worse during cold weather: the transmission shifts poorly, roughly, misses shifts, chooses the wrong gear for the vehicle speed, disengages and sends the engine to redline then drops into gear with a bang and either slows the vehicle with engine braking because the gear is too low, or lugs the engine with no acceleration because the gear is too high. The transmission is always shifting, and seems 'confused' as to what gear that it should be in. In city driving, if I need to suddenly brake, when I re-apply the throttle again, the transmission hangs between gears and the engine revs to redline then drops into gear and chirps the tires. The transmission also makes grinding noises when changing from 1st to 2nd gear. Also very slow to drop to a lower gear when throttle is pressed for quick acceleration. Takes about 2 seconds for it to downshift and then accelerate. Also, the gear indicator on the console (prnds) doesn't line up with the shifter or illuminate to show which gear is selected, so it's difficult to tell whether I've selected reverse, neutral, or drive. In addition, the display on the instrument panel that shows the gear selection sometimes takes over 30 seconds to illuminate or 'boot up' to indicate what gear is selected. I often end up in neutral when I think I've chosen reverse or drive while I wait for the instrument panel indicator to 'boot up'. The dealerships say that I have the current software, and, "they all do that. " dangerous, and will probably add up to very expensive repairs as it can't possibly be reliable under these conditions. It was 09/02/13 when this engine grinding noise issue occurred.

car   Engine Grinding Noise problem of GMC Terrain

The vehicle involved is a 2011 GMC Terrain. I own a GMC 2011 Terrain. It has 3600 miles on it. Ever since I bought it there is a hesitation and it does'nt seem to know when to shift gears!. It also jerks all over the place I brought it to the dealer because one day it almost comlpletely stalled on me. The dealer said that there were no codes that came up on it and everything is fine. The kicker is that the serviceman who took care of me took it home and said that it is doing what I saidand that theycan'tdo anything about it until it shows a code on the computer. I called gm and they told me the same thing. Meanwhile I get in my car today, start it up and it makes this horrible like grinding noise for like 3 seconds and thenwent away. Very irritated with the whole situation. If I could return this car I would . I cant stand it . I pay good money on a monthly basis and this is what I get. So until gggggggmc gets with the program and admits that there is a major issue with this vehicles engine I think were all in for alot of headaches. And from what I've read theres a few people who are having the same problem. Oh wait dont let me forget the lovely vibration my car makes between 2 and 3000 rpms! good times!. car   Engine Grinding Noise problem of Acura MDX

The car is a 2014 Acura Mdx. I have a major safety issue with my 6 month old Mdx (less than 5000 miles). The car is making grinding noises and vibrates, intermittently. The dealer has dismissed my claims and made minor modifications with insulation, and hoodclips. Nothing has been done to determine the cause of the problem and they pretend that there is nothing wrong, even though the service manager has heard it on more than one occassion. The care has been brought to the dealership four times over the course of the past 6 months and they have held my car in service for over 30 days. When we attempted to pick up the car last night, there was now a new extremely loud noise with every time I attempted to break. The on-duty sales manager heard the noise and insisted that I leave the car for service. Today, the dealership is refusing to address this new issue, and still ignoring the old issue, which was caused while my car was in their service department for the past month. The car is unsafe to drive and I feel taken advantage of by Acura. The dealership is also saying "their hands are tied. " I have attempted to call their national customer service line and they have given me the run around, insisting that all of their supervisors and case manager are in meetings. How do I address this issue? please help in this matter. If you read on-line many other people are having issues with the newly redesigned 2014 Mdx, produced at a new alabama plant. Acura needs to recall this model, before people are killed on the road. The failure date was 09/16/2013.

car   Engine Grinding Noise problem of Acura MDX

Hello, I am a very unhappy frustrated 2005 Acura Mdx owner. My car 2005acura Mdx at 82k miles, I noticed car shifting gear was not shifting smoothly. Having difficulty while shifting gear & which went worse & very stiff. Also, a grinding noise coming, while accelerating at low speeds ( 25-40mph). It started to happen almost every time I accelerate the car or holding this speed on a slight incline level. I have had my mechanic to look at it & was told this noise is a transmission/torque converter problem. It's common to Acura Mdxs. & also, advised to take it to Acura dealer. On oct-2009 car was placed for service @ authorized Acura dealer. Where dealer state that it¿s out of company warranty. The gear shift cable as well as transmission was replaced with 3-year warranty Acura dealer at my (owner) expense 5k. Again, in June-2012 @ 89k mileages, same problem started. My car shift gear was not shifting smoothly. My car needed excessive force in order to shift gears. Again, car was taken to an authorized Acura dealer and the gear shift cable was replaced. Dealer state that the gear shift cable was covered with rust. Which I believe the failure was a Acura design flaw. The vehicle was repaired second time at my expense($400. 00) for the same problem or cause. Recently, again (sept-2012) same strange vibration/grinding noise started. It sounds identical to the issue I was having previously. However, this types of failure recurring every few months later. Unfortunately, I found the same problem still exists. It is very frustrating and feel very nervous while driving with my family. I even get scared to drive this Acura SUV in case it will stop on the middle of the way, while driving. I¿m requesting you( NHTSA) to take this serious and possible life threatening matter with Acura and make them accountable and responsible for it. This engine grinding noise problem happened on Tuesday, October 12, 2010.

car   Engine Grinding Noise problem of Kia Motor Optima

The car involved was a 2012 Kia Motor Optima. Was sitting at light and went to take off car felt like it didn't want to shift into gear and had a loud rough grinding noise, all lights on the dashboard came one. Brake light, check engine light, coolant, etc and none of the gauges were working. I stopped at the store and went to leave the car would start up but wouldn't go into gear, it was stuck in park. I had to get it towed to the dealership to have it looked at. I had just had this same problem 1 week ago where all the lights were on and the gauges weren't working and the dealership had supposedly replaced the fuse panel box but that apparently didn't fix the problem. I think that it's a computer or engine issue. The failure date was August 8, 2012.

car   Engine Grinding Noise problem of Kia Motor Soul

The car involved is a 2010 Kia Motor Soul. Within a week of taking delivery on 7/24/09, the interior and most especially the door skins were already acquiring marks and scratches - a slight finger nail scratch required a special product to remove etc. There have been a few intermittent problems. 1. When releasing the clutch pedal there was a noise that sounded like a cable that has since become more consistent. On 8/3/09, I had an appointment with the dealer and was told it was the cable connected to the throw-out bearing which was said to be normal. However, this cable noise has not been normal with any of my other manual transmissions, nor is it present in all kia Souls. 2. I began to notice a knocking sensation coming through the shifter handle when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear along with a grinding sound when downshifting into 2nd gear. There is also a slight jolt when shifting into 2nd gear - it is not a smooth transition like the other gears. 3. When at a traffic light with the car in neutral, there are times when the car will not go into 1st gear, and wants to go into 3rd gear which usually takes a couple of tries before it will go into 1st gear. 4. There has been excessive engine revving 2x now. The first occurred after I came out of reverse - the second was when I tried to go into 1st gear but ended up in 3rd gear and brought the car back to neutral. 5. The last issue concerns excessive water and dirt accumulating in the engine. After washing my car, I popped the hood and noticed the hood latch is already stripped down to the metal after only being opened and closed 4-5 times. The engine design seems to attract pools of water in certain areas, which also occurs when it rains, and there is concern of premature rust. Scheduled an appointment for 9/15 to have the oil changed at 1000 miles and to get these issues addressed but had to schedule a 3rd appointment because the dealer now needs to keep the car for 5 hours so the outcome is pending. This problem occurred on July 31, 2009.

Land rover produced thousands of these vehicles with faulty engines(the 2. 5 v-6). I also want to know if there is a class-action lawsuit filed against Land Rover and how to get involved with it. After turning off the engine with the key, the car would restart without a problem. Strangely, the dealer did not record this particular complaint, but stated that diagnosis revealed that starter was failing. I was charged $990 for replacement and repairs. car   Engine Grinding Noise problem of Saturn VUE

The car is a 2002 Saturn Vue. While driving on the highway, our 2002 Vue made a grinding noise and then began to lose power. As we were pulling off to the side, the vehicle stalled and then would not re-start. The Saturn dealership towed the Vue to their lot and informed us , that the timing chain had skipped and blew the motor. The timing chain was supposed to be no maintenance and didn't even need to be checked until 100,000 miles. My Vue had 65,000 miles. After 3 weeks we were told that they would rebuild the engine at a cost of $3500- $3800 and Saturn would pay half of that cost. Several weeks prior, the vehicle was stalling while driving and would not restart until it cooled off. We took it to the dealership and they replaced a sensor for the cam shaft. The switch for the back wiper has been replaced and we were told by Saturn tech's that the motor for the back wiper also needs to be replaced, again at our cost. The failure date was Friday, Aug. 25, 2006.

car   Engine Grinding Noise problem of Subaru Forester

2009 Subaru Forester. Production date: 02-14-08. Initial diagnosis is internal turbo failure. The car has 34,000 miles on it and oil and filters are maintained. My wife was driving with our 2yr. Old in the car when it started making a horrible grinding sound. She described it as it sounded and felt like she was dragging something. She limps home with the car and I take it for a test drive. It sounded fine at start up. No tapping or grinding. As soon as I start up the road I could feel there was no acceleration. Like I was driving in mud. The check engine light, the traction control light and the cruise control light all stuck on. I have read many cases of this same thing happening with other 2. 5 turbo engines. There was a stop sale and a recall but, according to Subaru my car was not affected. The reports I've read indicate otherwise. The production date and the VIN# fall into the range of the stop sale. I am very worried about the outcome as the dealership I bought the car from and soa have not been helpful. I had to call Subaru myself to get them to respond to the dealerships case concerning my car. It's been a week now and just today I got a call from Subaru requesting permission to tear down the engine to find the source. A week and it's just sitting there. No offer of a rental. Nothing. This issue is not resolved yet and I hope Subaru does the right thing and lives up to its reputation of being a reliable, long lasting car. It was 01/08/12 when this engine grinding noise issue happened.

Vehicle identification number (VIN) of the vehicle is JF2SH65639_. At 9610 miles my 2009 Subaru Foresters engine failed. The failure came; as best I could tell; in about 20miles of operation. Engine started to sound louder from cabin. If I was parked with the engine running and the door open the noise was very load multi tone metal banging emanating from engine bay. Burning smell also occurred. As I drove the last 20 miles engine would barely stay running at low rpms; engine banging became worse; engine power appeared to decrease and a loud metallic grinding noise increased until check engine light went on. Approx 10-15 seconds latter. Engine completely stopped and never turned over again. Dealer told me today that car needs new engine. This engine grinding noise problem happened on Thu., Nov. 27, 2008.

car   Engine Grinding Noise problem of Toyota Sequoia

The car was a 2001 Toyota Sequoia. After coming back from trip, me and my family were heading home (we were about 2 miles from home), and upon coming to a red light, I stepped the brake pedal on my 2001 Toyota Sequoia, and the car came to a complete stop; but when the green light traffic came on, and as soon as I let go of the brake pedal, and about to press the gas pedal, the car just stalled ( also with battery light on indication lit, check engine on, abs lit, vsc trac lit, vsc off lit, brake light indication lit, abs light). So, first thing I did is turn off the engine , put the car in the park gear ( at the same time my foot is on the brake pedal), but as soon as I turn on the engine, put the car in drive and let go of the brake pedal, the car stalled again. Next thing I did is let 2 people push the car while in neutral to put the car in a safe place where there is no traffic, upon them pushing the car, they left, and the car was still running even no one pushing it, and came the scariest 20 seconds of my life, car made a a loud annoying grinding sound, car still moving, even with emergency brake on, my foot on the brake, key removed from ignition, car placed in park, in other words I had no control of the car. After 20 seconds, the car came to a complete stop, and we got out of the car scared and shaking, I thought we were going to die that day, but thank god the car stopped, or maybe my kids angels helped avoided an accident. Also good thing there was no heavy incoming traffic, there was 1 or 2 cars only in the way that stayed out of our way. I need help, Toyota has to recall and fix it because is a safety issue and also it is the right thing to do, if not I will be reporting these to the better business bureau and the local state consumer agency. This problem occurred on July 27, 2013.

car   Engine Grinding Noise problem of Volkswagen Golf

The car involved was a 2012 Volkswagen Golf. Car purchased November 2011. August 29, 2012 (much <10,000 miles) reported rough shifting of automatic transmission to Volkswagen of alexandria. Told that experience was normal. Trusted mechanic and used vehicle. March 18, 2013--complete transmission failure while driving in a parking lot. Engine shut off while moving and abruptly brought car to a stop. This is the same problem that prompted recalls for this car in australia, china, and japan. Brought into Volkswagen of alexandria and told problem was related to computer errors controlling transmission. July 10, 2013--(@15,000 miles) car loses reasonable amount of power, makes grinding noise, engine light appears. Blocks from Volkswagen of alexandria. Just able to make it in. Technicians report that a number of faults were reported and have contacted vw of America to advise what to do next. Ultimately they decide that the mechatronics unit (part of transmission) should be replaced but will not be available soon. Alexandria Volkswagen advises me to take the vehicle back into my posession and drive it as is until the part arrives. They claimed it to be just a noise issue. I object and have to point out the complaint about severe lack of power and previous complete engine/transmission failure (which they claimed to be unrelated). After complaint told I could rent a car. Finally able to complain my way into a loaner. I have read about this tactic for ways around lemon law liability. Was advised to report it here. It was Monday, Mar. 18, 2013 when this engine grinding noise issue occurred.

car   Engine Grinding Noise problem of Volkswagen Routan

The car involved was a 2010 Volkswagen Routan. Purchased the vehicle from the dealership in April 2011. We took a family vacation in June and noticed that the vehicle shut itself off a few times while in motion; causing the vehicle to lose power and all steering. On the same trip, when using the key fob, the entire electrical system would freeze and shut itself off. It eventually turns back on after 5 or so minutes. The wynn module was replaced. Before departing for the vacation, we had brake issues with them making a grinding noise and , sometimes no stopping power. Dealer replaced rotors. The passenger slider doors have issues. When closing, the door's safety mechanism would not back track the doors when it hit something coming or going into/out of the vehicle. The door shut on my son! the vehicle has been to the dealership more times than a new vehicle should. . . . Did I mention that we still have brake issues and electrical issues. It seems that all the dealership can say is that we cannot duplicate the situation. Each time that the vehicle goes to the dealer, they have it for a week or more! I have owned Chrysler/Dodge products before this and this is why I went to a vw. Needless to say, I didn't do my homework before purchasing. It seems that this vw is a "Chrysler". As of today, 15 January, I am looking into the "lemon law" and possibly seeking legal action. Something needs to be done. Why do we have to wait until this vw vehicle causes serious damage to property, person and maybe even death before the NHTSA looks into the vw situations?. It was Jun. 27, 2011 when this engine grinding noise issue happened.

car   Engine Grinding Noise problem of Volvo XC90

The vehicle involved was a 2005 Volvo Xc90. I noticed a grinding noise while driving at normal highway speed as it got worse over the next day or so I brought it to my local Volvo specialist. After some research I was told that the problem was with the balance shaft and was specific to the 2005 Xc90 v8. I contacted Volvo north America and received no compensation or even satisfactory customer service. My local Volvo tech recommended I bring the car to the Volvo dealer, who were the only one's authorized to do the repair. The engine head had to be removed to replace the balance shaft and the bearings needed to be reassembled. It's amazing that the same exact problem can be reported to this extent and Volvo still does nothing!! $4200 dollars later, the car was fixed. I'm glad it was caught prior to the engine needed to be replaced. . The failure date was Wednesday, January 5, 2011.

The vehicle is a 1998 Audi A4. Multitude of probs. W/ almost every aspect (brakes, engine valves, oil light stays on, rain leaks, bad wheel bearings, etc. ) of this car. Most frustrating has been rude and incompetent service by Audi dealer. After an expensive repair to the rear wheel bearings the dealer said that although not all the noise was gone, the car was safe enough to drive to calif. ,(we live in NJ). We did not believe the dealer because a loud grinding noise remained and took it to another shop where both front control arms were found to be damaged. We were advised not to drive the car as it was not safe to do so . This engine grinding noise problem happened on Apr. 15, 2003.
