car   Engine Knocking Noise problem of Chevrolet Equinox

The vehicle was a 2010 Chevrolet Equinox. My check engine light came on. I brought my car to an autoparts store to get the code. Upon running the code it was discovered the oil was low in the car. The mechanic put it in 3 quarts of oil. I had my oil changed in October and had just put 3000 miles on the car. The next day the check engine light came on again and the car was 1 quart of oil low. I called the chevy dealer and gave them the code p00014. They said it was my camshaft and to bring it in for warranty work. Upon drop off they said they could smell oil burning and heard a knocking in the engine. They said the oil in my car was very black/dirty and low when they received it. They told me to make sure I change my oil regularly and not follow the "oil life" light in the car. They did an oil change and said the car was running fine. I was informed to keep an eye on the oil so they could do a conumption test. A week later the same check engine code came on in my car. I brought it back to the dealership. They replaced chains and accuators in the engine. I got my car back, watched the oil and drove 1000 miles. At that point my car was 1. 3 quarts of oil low. The dealership documented it and sent me on. I drove 700 miles and was 3/4 a quart of oil low. It also had that knocking noise in the engine again. The dealership took my car back and called gm. They were told took look for markings in the engine. They ended up replacing my entire engine and the fuel pump system due to the markings they found. Gm said these problems were linked to issues in engines with these marks. My situation has been fixed for now but I wanted to make my problem known for others who have not had it fixed. This issue happened on Jan. 5, 2013.

car   Engine Knocking Noise problem of Chrysler Pacifica

The car was a 2008 Chrysler Pacifica. On the night of July 3, 2013 I began to hear a slight rattle while driving. The noise could only be heard while the car was moving. I drove the vehicle for approx. 25 minutes and the noise maintained for most of the ride. The next morning the noise was much louder and could be heard even while the vehicle sat idle. I checked my oil and transmission fluid as well as my coolant and all levels were at normal. This was the 4th of July and I could not find a mechanic open. I drove the vehicle to work for approx. 25 minutes then back home again. The noise did not worsen or improve. I checked the oil level once I returned home last night and it was low. I added 2 quarts and did not drive until this morning. The noise remained so I took it to a mechanic who has informed that the engine needs replacing. The mechanic said that the rod bearing is causing the rattle/knocking sound and that eventually the loose bearing will wear into the crank shaft and my engine will not work anymore. I have been informed that the only option is engine replacement. The vehicle has less than 68,000 miles on it and has been cared for. I have been informed that Chrysler is aware of issues such as these and has in previous cases assisted with the cost of repair. I will be contacting Chrysler following this complaint. This engine knocking noise issue occurred Wed., Jul. 3, 2013.

The steering wheel shakes when applying the breaks, but I've have a complete new set of brakes put on it, rotors and new calipers in the front. The brakes also make a knocking sound. I also got a complete set of tires and they seem to be wearing quicker than normal. I have had 3 different shops look at the breaks for a diagnoses and all of them say that the right parts on it and they don't see and reason for the noises. This problem occurred on 05/21/2014.

I had just changed the oil and checked the fluids and had to run some errands up town about a mile and a half up the road the engine started making a knocking noise, I was close enough to the garage I use so I pulled in there to see what was going on the oil pan was on fire oil and what looked like anti freeze was coming out of a hole from what use to be the oil pan or what was left of the pan, the fellow that ran the station told me it had hydro locked and bent a rod and pushed it thru the oil pan, he went on to say he had seen several of the 4. 2 do this and it looked like Ford wold have done something when they were aware of the problems with the 4. 2,I talked to Ford about it and got the run around from them, just couldn't believe it I had never pulled or hauled any heavy objects or mistreated it in any way, don't understand when the powers that be were aware of the problem with this engine the consumer was left holding the bag to a tune of thousands of dollars in repairs, now got to do with out to try and save the money to get it fixed, mostly used the truck to get my wife back and forth to the dr. She has m/s and a heart condition, the poor always catch it if there was anything to Ford they would make it good and the same goes for the NHTSA they know the problem is there just look at the Ford forms, but god always makes a way just have to wait and see what his plan are, alot of folks like us have no family so we take care of or trucks, it sure wasn't abuse that cause the problem. It was Saturday, April 5, 2014 when this engine knocking noise issue happened.

car   Engine Knocking Noise problem of GMC Terrain

The vehicle is a 2011 GMC Terrain. I was driving my new 2011 Terrain I just brought in may 2011, when it started to idle roughly, the engine light came on and it cut off while at a stop light. I restarted the car and it begins to stall out and hesitate. It also started to make a rattling/ knocking sound when starting the car. It sounds like a diesel truck. I took it right to the dealer to find that there was a recall coming out 8/12 millage 5274. I then called general motors to report this problem which shouldnt have happened to brand new car. I didnt drive the car cause I was afraid of what might happen. I took it back to the service department who reset it on 8/15, which did not fix the problem. They fixed the recall parts, didnt fix the problem, took it back on 8/24 millage 5675, 9/2 millage 6353 for the same problems. I had to have it towed on 9/14 millage 7341 for the same issues that were never fixed. They continued to say the system is not reading any code and there is nothing they can do, they cant duplicate the problems,I had onstar run diagnostics and gave them the codes. To this day the problems have not been fixed and continue to exist. Gm still does not want to own up to the fact that they have mad a bad product, and dont realize that this is a safety problem that can cause a serious accident with this car hesitating and stalling out while your driving it. The rattling and knocking noise when starting the car who knows what that is? when you call gm to get then to fix this problem and if they cant fix the car, replace the car, or just buy it back, they try to offer you an inconvenience fee instead of owning up to the problem, which is their way of shutting you up. This is beyond the lemon law. Gm needs to take this serious and stop brushing this problem under the carpet. Report them to bbb and the attorneys generals office in your state they should not be allowed to get away with this. This issue happened on Friday, Aug. 12, 2011.

car   Engine Knocking Noise problem of Acura TSX

2009 Acura Tsx was purchased on 12/29/08 in PA. During the 1st 3 months of purchase, the car has developed an engine/knocking noise when driving and accelerating. The car has been taken to the dealer a total of 4 times thus far for investigation. Per the dealer, this issue appears to be occurring on many 2009 Tsx models. . The noise is consistently produced while driving and accelerating, further pronounced while rpms are between 2000 and 2700, and has become more prevalent as time goes by. As instructed, the vehicle is only run on premium fuel. The dealer has been able to replicate the noise, but is unable to determine a fix. According to the techline, the metallic knocking/pinging the Tsx makes while driving and accelerating is ?normal at this time? and the issue is under investigation. I also called Acura client services per the case number above and was told that there was no known issue for the 2009 Tsx. According to the dealer, many Tsxs are experiencing the same issue and nothing can be done based on no resolution from corporate. Given Honda?s strong root in reliability, value and customer service, I find it hard to believe that this metallic knocking/pinging from an engine would be considered ?normal?. I am very concerned that this knocking/pinging noise is a design flaw that will develop into long-term safety and reliability issue given the detrimental impact to the engine/powertrain, causing the engine to shutdown during driving, etc. If this issue is wide spread as the dealer reports across the 2009 Tsx fleet, I am concerned of this issue and Honda's failure to address the issue or provide an explanation of the cause. The austrilian gov't is also investigating a similar issue with the Honda euro, pressuring Honda to identify the issue and provide a fix before long-term safety issues arise. ? your consideration of this problem and any recommended solution with Honda Acura would be greatly appreciated. It was Jan. 26, 2009 when this engine knocking noise issue happened.

car   Engine Knocking Noise problem of Honda Accord

Hello, I have a 2008, v4 Honda Accord. I started having problems back October 2012 with the oil. When I get an oil change, I would need to add at least 2 quarts of oil before the next oil change is do. It started off with adding oil the very next month after a new oil change! that is so ridiculous. The only way I would know that I needed more oil was there would be a burning smell coming from the car and a knocking noise. My oil light indicator would never light up-which is another malfunction. I took the car to Honda for servicing and told them what the car was doing. They told me that they did not see anything and that if it persists to bring it back in. So immediately I?m thinking that maybe they are not changing the oil correctly?! so the next few months I kind of kept track of the oil and took my car somewhere else for the oil change to see if that made a difference. Within the past year since then, I have had 4 oil changes with the other place and they did tell me that there is probably a Honda malfunction going on because the car is not supposed to keep losing oil within oil changes and having to add oil!! I am going to take my car in again to Honda and see what they are going to do. I just do not want to have the car engine blow up on me because of something Honda should have repaired. If someone else has had any resolution to their Honda place, please contact me at [xxx]thanks. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6). This engine knocking noise problem happened on November 12, 2012.

The vehicle involved was a 2011 Jeep Wrangler. I started to hear a knocking noise for 3-5 seconds on a cold start. It did not do this on any sequential starts for that day. Took it to the dealer, who changed oil filter and oil. Still made sound on receiving vehicle. Took in again and dealer replaced the lifters. Still made noise upon receipt. Took in for a third time, they are now saying it is a normal noise, even though it never made it before. Jeep specialists say that this is a normal noise as well. After researching on-line, I have found a large amount of information leading to a malfunctioning cylinder head on the exact make and model of my Jeep engine. There have been thousands replaced, but for some reason this was not even considered for my vehicle. This engine knocking noise problem happened on Monday, November 4, 2013.

So, they wanted to charge me $643 to fix the identical hose parts that were recalled on the other side. Towing to sterling $168. Towing back to my mechanic $86. - charged double at sterling for towing. Our mechanic did work for about half of what sterling wanted. Please recall the left and right side oil cooler hoses. They are identical and both will blow out causing major engine damage. I would like to be reimbursed for the work done - please recall!. car   Engine Knocking Noise problem of Mazda Cx-7

The car involved was a 2007 Mazda Cx-7. Vehicle identification number (VIN): JM3ER29357_. My 2007 Cx-7 started making a loud banging noise when I started it (may 7,2012). I brought it to the dealership to have it checked out and they said it was my timing chain & actuator (vvt) and it would take $1350 to repair. I paid the money and it was fixed in a couple of days. On June 7th,2012 I started to realize that my ac was not working, but had decided to wait a little bit to have it fixed because I was still hurting financially from the last fix a month ago. Than on June 9th, 2012, I went to start my vehicle and it sounded like it was about to explode. I live in the country and the closest dealership is at least 50 miles away. So I brought it to my local repair shop and they told me my turbo is blown. The Mazda dealership wants $80 to diagnose it and $5000 to fix it (that doesn't include my towing fees and the cost of fixing the ac). I've read all of the complaints online and everyone is saying sludge build up and Mazda wants the receipts for all of their oil changes. I have all my receipts for the synthetic oil changes that I have had done to the vehicle on time (not to mention only filling the car with premium gas). Unfortunately, my car is up to 100,000 miles and they only extended the warranty to what. . . 70k? so basically I have a car that I paid $16k for and is completely useless to me only after 100k miles. From what I've researched vvt's are not supposed to go out until what 250k-300k miles? and it seems a bit ridiculous for the turbo to go out after 100k miles. . . . This problem occurred on Sat., Jun. 9, 2012.

car   Engine Knocking Noise problem of Mercedes Benz C230

The vehicle involved was a 2006 Mercedes Benz C230. Periodically the car would lose acceleration and rpms would be high and the vehicle would jerk when I tried changing gears. As I change gears from park, reverse or drive, the gear shift jerks and I am unable to accelerate past 20 mph no matter how much pressure I place on the gas. : extreme loss of acceleration up hill and the steptronic (+/- shifting) did not work. . . (I could only go 35mph when every one else was going 70mph up hill) when I traveled on a flat surface with no inclination my car worked fine, I then decided to put it on neutral while traveling at 65mph. . . When I put it back in drive it did not pick up the gears it just continued as if it was in neautral. I had to pull over and shift it into park. . . As I shifted form "d" to neutral it shifted fine, but then from neutral to "r" the car jerked. . . From reverse to "p" it jerked again and shifted hard. I then shifted again to reverse, neutral, and drive thus the car jerked and did a hard shift with knocking noise and would not drive. I shifted to neutral again and shut the car off. When I turned it back on it shifted smooth and I drove off without any problem. Took it to a repair shop and received p0717/p0718 fault codes and something about the valve body. I was also told that it was an transmission internal speed sensor issue. There is something faulty with the design and operation of this model year transmission and losing power and being able to only go 35 mph no matter how much you press the gas on the interstate or heavy fast moving traffic is extremely dangerous. Mercedes benz is aware of this problem as many owners have complained but they will not institute a recall. This issue happened on November 15, 2011.

car   Engine Knocking Noise problem of Mitsubishi Montero Sport

I purchased a 2001 Mitsubishi Montero Sport used in March 2004, one month after purchase I brought it to the dealership with a complaint of a knocking noise in the engine. The dealership said nothing was wrong. I have properly maintained my vehicle since day one and learned to live with the knocking noise. On oct 23, 2005 the while driving down the highway the knocking noise became excessive so I pulled over, turned the engine off, waited a minute and restarted. As I started to accelerate there was a loud knock and smoke was coming from under the hood. Mitsubishi is claiming the vehicle threw a rod due to sludge in the engine. The are saying this was due to neglect of the vehicle due to the owner, although they have never once asked me for records of maintenance, which I have. They then say it was from neglect of the previous owner. In a report I received from the dealership my vehicle has been sitting they say "engine failure due to oil starvation". I have records of 5 oil changes in 18 months. Right now my vehicle is still inoperable and have a date set with the national center of dispute resolution. Hopefully Mitsubishi will suck it up and do what they are suppose to do under warranty. This problem occurred on Sunday, October 23, 2005.

car   Engine Knocking Noise problem of SAAB 9-3

Leased 2003 SAAB 9-3 arc on 9/26 and this is my second complaint (10051379) and I still have not heard from SAAB customer care regarding their fixing the loud right rear rattling/knocking noise. I have called numerous times with no call back. I now have two more problems. . . The car hesitates, sputters and almost stalls. . . The dealer increased the idle and that was the fix. . . I do not feel safe when starting off from a stop or driving in stop and go traffic. Also the transmission is shifting hard between gears between 10 and 30 mphs. . . It started a few days ago and is becoming more prevalent as each day passes. . Both these problems along with the loud rattling/knocking noise from right rear that dealer says is normal tell me that this car has problems that SAAB doesn't want to deal with and that is not right. This issue happened on 01/09/2004.

car   Engine Knocking Noise problem of SAAB 9-3

The car involved is a 2001 SAAB 9-3. At approximately 75,000 miles, driving on the interstate around 70mph, oil light begins flickering. After slowing down to 60 the light stopped flickering and instead stayed on. From the time I was able to slow down to pull off the road a knocking sound could be heard from the engine progressively getting louder. The car was then taken home and inspected. Removing the oil pan revealed that the oil pick-up tube was clogged and the pan was caked with burnt oil. A local mechanic estimated $3,000 to repair the internal damage. Called SAAB, they said the car was beyond any warranty and that it was my fault for not turning the car off immediately after seeing the light. Furthermore after researching this issue, I spoke with 3 SAAB representatives who claimed to know nothing of this oil sludge issue and were not able to bring it up as it does not have a recall number, a fourth one was able to pull up a record based on my v. I. N. Showing that this known oil sludge problem was "repaired" back in 2006 under the name "special policy" which was good for 8 years after the in service date so long as all records of the car were kept. According to this report my argument was pointless considering I was approximately 5 months out of warranty and did not have the required service logs. The failure date was Tuesday, March 10, 2009.

I pulled over to inspect the engine, and saw some type of fluid on the left side of the engine and wall. I pulled the oil dipstick out and there was no oil on it at all. Completely dry! I had someone bring me some oil and I drove my car up to the repair shop just a short distance away. They discovered that the oil pressure line -valve cover variable timing-on top of motor to right on passenger side had burst. Part of the line is rubber and that part had ruptured and all the oil had blown out of the engine. My oil light did not come on at any time nor did my check engine light.
