The vehicle involved is a 2009 Chrysler Pt Cruiser. The car was in motion when passenger airbag off light on dash illuminated, and then all gauges on dash dropped to zero and reset several times in succession. This has occurred several times, often including a loss of acceleration or engine stalls (though engine has never shut completely off, often it is only revived with a press of the accelerator). As with other complaints on this site, the vehicle was taken a dealership on several occasions for diagnosis, but the issue was never replicated. It has occurred several times in the past years, the most common symptom being the passenger airbag light coming on (practically weekly), indicating my passenger has no airbag and could be jeopardy in the event of an accident. No one has ever found this issue, which as repeated even after battery, electrical system, and battery contacts have been replaced. The vehicle has undergone numerous repairs related to the electrical system but this hasn't stopped, and I don't have the money to replace this car. Please look into this, the lives of my family are at risk if the passenger airbag doesn't work!!. It was Sat., Nov. 19, 2011 when this engine stall issue occurred.

car   Engine Stall problem of Dodge Magnum

The vehicle is a 2006 Dodge Magnum. The vehicle identification number (VIN) is 2D4GV57276_. After filing the fuel tank, the engine will sputter and stall. When it first began to happen to me, it seemed like I was getting bad gas. Now I know that this occurs primarily after I make a left turn and is due to a part that is inside the fuel tank. The part fails and the result is this problem with the engine stalling. This is a known problem with older Magnums, chargers, and Chrysler 300's. It is dangerous!! this has happened to be on interstate 95 and just when I got into the travel lane the engine died. I think the left turn I made was a few mile before I got to the entrance ramp and it caught me off-guard. I was lucky to be able to pull over and get onto the shoulder. This is a design failure and is not normal wear & tear. All of the older cars mentioned here can be affected. I assume you have received prior complains about this issue. Dodge is no help, but should be required to fix this problem. Thanks. This issue happened on May. 1, 2013.

car   Engine Stall problem of Jeep Commander

My beloved Jeep Commander suddenly shut off while driving at 40mph. With no prior problems or warning signs the engine completely stalled- instantly I lost both power steering & brakes. Needless to say I was terrified. After much confusion & hassle I was told to replace my key. (reason being the 'chip' inside was malfunctioning. ) I replaced the $270 key which solved nothing. To my surprise, many Commander owners experience this same problem with no help from Jeep. Not only do Jeep dealerships ignore the potential recall warning on the Commander, but they actually recommend expensive 'solutions' that do not even touch the known problem. It seems as though there are no solutions for this faulty system, given that no dealership can successfully stop the shutting off. There are way too many owners experiencing the same dangerous stall. I cannot in good conscience ignore the fact that this problem goes beyond inconvenience; this is potentially very dangerous and the Jeep Commander needs to be recalled. This problem occurred on 04/17/2014.

car   Engine Stall problem of Jeep Commander

The vehicle is a 2007 Jeep Commander. I called the dealer (walnut creek Chrysler Jeep) in 2007 that my engine made a stalling noise when I started the engine, and they said not to worry about it (I purchased the vehicle in may 2007, so only a few months later). I moved the car to CT, and to TX (warranty companies continue to track my address, no word of recalls, they almost stalk me, I have the mailings to prove it, which I would like to opt-out from; only use an e-mail for recalls). For months, and years, I have been complaining that my vehicle has been accelerating usually while stopped at a traffic light, it stalls while driving, the front panel lights flicker even shut off (seems running on auto pilot), the engine self-shuts off for no reason. I even asked dealers if there were any recalls, they said no. I heard that many people had their front panel vehicle lights flicker erratically, also the self-accelerating and self-stalling problems with their vehicles. The thought that my car had been hacked crossed my mind (many studies show that this can happen); I contacted my insurance company, and also the state police agency regarding a drivers license and agency documentation fine print about research. No accidents, but the above problems continue to affect my vehicle (the panel lights "some what" slowed down, but the self-acceleration, self-stalling continue, and self-shut down continue. I have driven my vehicle for approximately 35,000 miles, and purchased it new in may 2007. Is this a safety issue? note: do not post or distribute my personal information, or upload to a public database. Please keep my personal information private. In addition, I do not want to be pestered with more warranty offers; I have no idea how they obtained my physical address. It was Monday, Sep. 10, 2007 when this engine stall issue happened.

car   Engine Stall problem of Lexus RX300

The vehicle having this issue was a 1999 Lexus Rx300. The VIN of the car is JT6HF10UXX_. Engine stalls at idle, dealer claims from high oil viscosity despite oil being changed every 5000 miles. Dealer says that because of the way the engine is mounted that it runs hot and that only certain oils are reccomended. Says that quaker state oil, which we used, should be changed every 3000 miles since it is not "as good" as the oil they use at the dealer. This is not suggested in the owners manual and I would suspect poor engine design that allows development of excessive heat. Secondly, the gas tank sensor failed- gas gauge ran half when the tank was empty. Dealer says he has seen this "several" times. Suspect problem with this component. This engine stall problem happened on 07/15/00.

car   Engine Stall problem of Mercury Mariner

The vehicle involved is a 2008 Mercury Mariner. I was driving on highway route 22 at approximately 60 mph, when suddenly the throttle stopped responding and the tachometer started dropping. In a matter of seconds the tachometer reached zero and the vehicle stalled, while I was in traffic on the highway. I coasted off to the shoulder and put the vehicle in park. When I tried to restart the vehicle, the engine would turn over and start up, however, immediately after I let go of the key, the tachometer would drift back down to zero and the vehicle would stall. After a few more failed attempts, I called for a tow. Since this occurred after hours, no one was available to work on the vehicle until the next morning. In the morning when I attempted to show the technician the failure, the vehicle started up as it did the evening before, then the tachometer started dipping back down, then just before it stalled, the tachometer fluttered a little, then the engine revved back up and began idling normally. The technician indicated that there were no events logged in the vehicles computer to give him an idea of what caused the sudden stalling, and he could not find any obvious issues with the vehicle. The vehicle was returned to me without repair and the technician warned me that it is likely that this would happen again and that they cannot diagnose it unless they see it when it is not working. Now I am concerned that this will happen again while driving and that it will cause an accident, or worse. I read an article from the north carolina consumers council stating that there is a known issue with the throttle body of this vehicle that causes sudden engine stall while driving. Ford issued an extended warranty on certain vehicles for this piece, however when I contacted the dealership and mentioned consumer satisfaction program 13n03, they informed me that my vehicle did not qualify. I'm not sure what to do next. This issue happened on Sunday, May 11, 2014.

Vehicle at rear nearly rear-ended mine - but missed by a hairs whisker. Another piece of luck was that I was at the crest of the ramp so managed to "coast" towards the shoulder. Waited for a bit - the car wouldn't restart. Had to spend perilous time on the left shoulder before getting my car towed. At the time of writing - the car is sitting in the dealers lot. Nothing special happened prior to this incident. Previously a similar incident had occurred just outside my residence - and the dealer checked it out and said it might just be "bad gas". car   Engine Stall problem of Toyota Prius

The car was a 2014 Toyota Prius. While driving on the freeway at highway speeds a series of yellow triangles suddenly flashed on the dashboard along with some beeps. The engine then stalled and the gas pedal no longer responded to any inputs. Due to a combination of sheer luck and driver presence of mind the car was steered to the shoulder of the highway where it came to a halt. The experience of trying to control a car with a stalled engine and safely steer it to the shoulder in heavy traffic was terrifying to say the least. The car was taken straight to the dealer where it was left for service. After diagnosis a couple of days later the dealer called back and said that the engine control module had failed which is why the engine had stalled. The car is still with the dealer since the part is not available and needs to be shipped from Toyota. The dealer claimed that this was such a rare occurrence that they did not have the parts available. They also claimed that they did not know anyone else for whom this had happened. Maybe so but this was an incident that could have been fatal. The fact that nobody got killed is just plain luck. It was April 8, 2014 when this engine stall issue occurred.

car   Engine Stall problem of Toyota MR2

The car was a 2003 Toyota Mr2. The design of the computer controlled power train makes throttle, transmission and starter inter-dependent. My vehicle has repeatedly lost power and coasted to a stop. The vehicle has been recently inspected by a Toyota dealer, who says there's nothing wrong with it. But the vehicle operator's manual anticipates stalling while underway and gives directions to re-start - sometimes successful, sometimes not and the vehicle has to be towed, in my experience. Manual directions (page 153): if your engine stalls while driving . . . Reduce speed gradually, keeping a straight line. Move cautiously off the road to a safe place. . . Manual transmission, na sequential manual transmission: turn the ignition key to the ?acc? or ?lock? position. Approximately 5 seconds after, try starting the engine again. If your engine will not start, see ?if you engine will not start -? on page 150 of this manual. How can one "move cautiously off the road to a safe place", if the engine won't run? this car is unsafe as manufactured, imo. This issue happened on Jul. 1, 2009.

car   Engine Stall problem of BMW 650

The car was a 2010 BMW 650i. The VIN of the problem 650 is WBAEA5C50A_. Suffered sudden engine stall in an expressway with no apparent explanation or reason last month. This was the second time this occurred. The first time was approximately several months earlier and after limping to a safe place and turning the motor off, resting for a while, it restarted. I had the vehicle serviced during its annual oil change and the dealer informed that the vehicle suffered an engine misfire in two pistons, allegedly due to two faulty coils. About a month later I suffered the second incident in an expressway but in heavier traffic. The motor was violently shaking and it could not accelerate so I was unable to change lanes or reach the roadside safety lane. The vehicle barely limped at about 25 mph. After managing to get off the road I turned the motor off and after waiting a while when I turned it back on it worked adequately. I took the vehicle to the dealer again who informed that it had suffered another engine misfire but in two other pistons, also allegedly due to two other faulty coils. I have been a BMW owner for 20 years and never suffered anything similar. The explanation given is highly suspect. This sudden and unexplained engine misfire and stall is extremely dangerous and must be investigated. This problem occurred on 09/28/2013.

car   Engine Stall problem of Buick Rendezvous

The car was a 2006 Buick Rendezvous. Engine cut off and reduced engine power light came on while driving down road. Power steering, brakes and everything else completely quit unexpectedly. Could restart after letting sit for 10 minutes, but continued to do this all the way home. Took several more trips out around town and problem just got worse. Was a very dangerous situation, being as it would simply cut off in middle of road while going 55-60 mph and almost unable to keep under control and keep from being hit by other drivers. Parked it at home and researched problem online. Everything I found stated others with same issue would take theirs in for testing and repair and could get no satisfaction, multiple and various parts would be replaced and problem continued. Have replaced alternator, spark plugs and wires, throttle body, ignition switch, cleaned wiring harness connection under drivers seat and checked for corrosion, cleaned mass air flow sensor, and ordered an engine control module, but just found out that it needs to be programmed to the vehicle to work (currently working on finding someone to do that, now). Cannot afford to take to dealership, and after reading all the other dissatisfied individuals info. , I do not feel that it would do any good since no part replacement seems to work. Seems like this is becoming a common problem for Buick Rendezvous vehicles, from what I can see from the other recent complaints. It is also a very dangerous problem. Engines should not stall out while going down the road, thankfully I am just an experienced enough driver that no injuries occurred. Would not have been the same thing if my son or daughter had been driving. It will do no good to file this complaint and no investigation or recall will occur, I'm sure, but at least I can join the other listings showing this is a common problem. Love the vehicle, hate that for the price I paid, I only got 100,00 miles. This problem occurred on Thu., Aug. 1, 2013.
