The vehicle was a 2005 Chevrolet Aveo. I have a 2005 chevy Aveo and recently was driving to work when it started to smoke and make funny noises, after being fixed at the dealership, I was told that the clutch was red hot, cracked the plate and the fly well and was a hazard to drive, I have only had the car three yrs and never did anything to cause this, I am wondering if this was a manufacture or mechanical issue with the car, I ended up paying 854$ to fix the car but for the time that I was without it, I had to take a bus to work for three weeks and rely on friends to help me out. Is this car safe?. The failure date was Friday, Jun. 6, 2008.

The vehicle involved is a 2001 Chrysler Sebring convertible. Vehicle identification number (VIN): 1C3EL65U61_. Complete engine failure at 78, 895 miles due to oil sludge build up (December 2004). Had a remanufactured engine put in 2/21/2006 when I could finally afford it and Chrysler would do nothing about it. I used only synthetic oil in the replacement engine and had it changed every 3000 miles and yesterday (9-1-2008), it started making a funny noise. I had it towed to a repair shop today to be safe, and the verdict is I need a new engine - again due to oil sludge. The failure date was 12/23/2004.

The vehicle involved was a 2007 Ford Freestyle. The VIN of this vehicle is 1FMZK02177_. I received a recall notice on the back brakes. Had those replaced july08. In july09 I was backing out of a parking spot and when I put the car in reverse it accelerated and lurched forward almost hitting the car beside me. This happened several times. This went on for about a week. Then every time I put it in reverse it would die then the transmission light came on. Took it to the dealership and it was the throttle body and was replaced. In Feb. 2010 I was informed that my back brakes were completely gone and needed to be replaced ASAP. In june10 the car started making a funny noise in park and no lights in the instrumental panel had come on. Took it to the dealership and the input shaft bearing was out. Which means a new transmission. In october10, as I was turning right into an intersection during morning rush hour traffic it would not accelerate. I had the pedal pushed all the way to the floor. And, the transmission light came on again. Took it to the dealership, it was the throttle body again. This issue happened on Monday, July 7, 2008.

The vehicle involved is a 2004 Saturn Ion. The VIN of this vehicle was 1G8AJ52F44_. By 3500 miles (after 1500mi when we could have returned it), the front passenger turn signal burnt out. The car was also sputtering when we started the engine. The mechanic found a cracked head, that we were told was probably present when we purchased the car; had we known we would've returned the car. We were given a rental car, but had to drive 45 min one way to get to Saturn of green bay. Within a month, the front driver turn signal had burnt out. The wiring was replaced while we waited 2 hrs with our 3 year old. We had to drive 1 hr 1way to Saturn of appleton for repairs. In Aug 2004, the car was making a noise when we turned onto a steep grade. In mi for vacation, we had to drive over 1 hr 1way to Saturn of troy; the swaybar and mounting brackets had to be fixed. We waited for over 2 hrs with our son while it was fixed. In sept 2004, the front passenger side turn signal had to replace the resistor. We drove 1 hr 1 way for the repair, and had to wait 2 hrs with our son. We had asked about the cruise making a funny noise, but it was checked and we were told it was fine. In April 2005, the cruise stopped working and had to be fixed. It took over a week for the part to come in, and almost 2 weeks for it to be repaired at Saturn of green bay. I had to go to the dealer 30 minutes early, be driven over to my school where I teach, walk to my second school I teach at, and wait for a driver to pick me up (20-40 min past when I was done for the day). Despite everything we've been through with a new car that should need minimal care at this point, we've been basically told that we should take the $2600 hit to buy a new car while the dealer breaks even. This is poor salesmanship, and we will not be purchasing Saturn products any longer. This problem occurred on Monday, March 29, 2004.

I have followed all maintenance requirements on my 2000 Toyota Camry and recently the engine blew on a trip to the beach. I was passing a slow moving vehicle on the alligator river bridge about 28 miles from nags head, nc. At the time I did not observe any red lights on the dashboard indicating a problem. I heard a loud bang, then the oil light came on and the car was making a funny noise. I could not stop on the bridge so I immediately pulled over when I left the bridge. The first thing I checked was the engine oil. It was completely dry. I found a house nearby and they gave me two quarts of oil to put in the car. They told me a gas station was 15 miles away. The car ran fine below 35 mph and made a little noise. Above 35mph it made a loud noise and the oil light came on. I made it to nags head and the next day I took the car to a car repair center. They notified me afterwards that the engine was blown and the engine compartment was completely filled with a thick sludge. I have read the past information on these problems and believe it was due to an engine sludge build up. I was also amazed that I did not see any oil warning light prior to the problem. I would like the manufacturer to correct by replacing or rebuilding the engine. This problem occurred on Thu., Aug. 5, 2010.
