car   Hatchback/liftgate Lock problem of Chevrolet Tahoe

The car involved was a 2006 Chevrolet Tahoe. We are unable to open the rear liftgate with the fob. So, we continued to look for a key latch and to our shock we realized it could not be unlocked manually. After a lot of frustration and anguish of trying to load groceries through the back seat and having to literally go over 3rd row seat to put groceries in cargo area, we thought how awful it would be if we needed to exit out the back door in case of an accident. We discovered we could not unlock or open the liftgate from the inside either. It gave me a very uneasy feeling as we transport children to and from school. This problem is definitely a safety issue. We contacted a local Chevrolet dealer and they are not willing to even check our vehicle unless we fork over $120. 00+ and then we have to wait a week for them to even look at it. This is very disheartening to us as we have always had a lot of confidence in the Chevrolet name, well we are not so sure now. This hatchback/liftgate lock problem happened on Sun., Apr. 29, 2012.

car   Hatchback/liftgate Lock problem of Chrysler Town & Country

The vehicle is a 2005 Chrysler town and country. 2005 Chrysler town and country liftgate was being closed using automatic closing mechanism. Husband stepped around card and liftgate crashed onto his head at considerable force cracking open his head and requiring 5 staples to his head. He is 6' 5" and 200 lbs, I would hate to see what would have happened if it was my 4 year old whom had been hit. Chrysler touted the safety of the automatic doors upon purchasing the vehicle stating that even a fingertip would cause the doors to retract. I am contacting Chrysler to inform them of this possible defect or at least to warn consumers of the dangers. I will not be using the automatic feature any further. This hatchback/liftgate lock problem happened on Mar. 13, 2005.

car   Hatchback/liftgate Lock problem of Dodge Magnum

2005 Dodge Magnum (VIN 2d8gv58285h550182), ordered 30 Jun 2004, assembled 26-27 August 2004 in brampton, ontario; delivered to purchaser 17 Sep 2004. Liftgate fails to open due to a failure of the electronic release. Only alternative method to release the liftgate lock is to crawl into the rear of the vehicle, remove an access panel over the locking mechanism and release the lock manually. I notified Dodge via their web site (20 Sep 2004) and was told to take the vehicle to my dealer to have the problem fixed. I tried to explain, in 7 subsequent emails, that the problem is not so much with the failure of the electronic locking mechanism, but with the fact that Dodge would release for public sale a vehicle with such a poorly engineered backup system for accessing the rear compartment via the liftgate in the event of a liftgate latch failure. According to the dearler service writer, there is a failure of the ground wire to the latch mechanism. This sometimes results in the failure of the right-rear passenger door to open as well, although I have not experienced this part of the problem. Dodgeland, USA apparently has a technician who has diagnosed and repaired the problem on at least three (3) other Magnums in las vegas. I am planning to have my Magnum repaired within a day or so. I have recently been informed by my dealer (dodgeland, USA) that Dodge now recognizes a design problem and will be installing keylock access on the outside liftgates of 2006 and newer Dodge Magnums. I insist all current owners should receive a retrofit of this keylock capability. Thank you for any assistance you can provide. Robert m. Agnew las vegas, nv 89134-2541. It was September 20, 2004 when this hatchback/liftgate lock issue occurred.

car   Hatchback/liftgate Lock problem of Acura MDX

2008 Acura Mdx -entertainment package rear tailgate door has two modes of closing. Auto and manual. After loading cargo space I wanted to close tailgate manually very slowly to ensure that cargo would not damage door, or door damage cargo. I grasped the tailgate door on lower edge and began slowly closing tailgate door to make sure door would clear any possible obstructions before actually closing door securely. What happens with this design is as you get close to the point where the door is almost all the way down, an automatic sensor is tripped and begins to automatically close the door to it fully closed position. I was not aware of this and as a result the door crushed by fingers. There are no permanent damages. Just a very painful experience. This could result in theft of contents of entire van. It could also result in someone hiding in the cargo area awaiting for my return undetected. It also leaves me stranded with my three kids. I do not want to drive a car with a door wide open with three young children. I do not want to drive a car when the door is not latched all of the way either. My neighbor has had his car in 7 times also for his sliding doors. I am going to arbitration on Tuesday, may 23 hoping it be declared a lemon. My neighbor will be doing so soon also. I went outside today to find my liftgate open . The key fob was in my pants pocket. I would like Hyundai to investigate a re-design. car   Hatchback/liftgate Lock problem of Jeep Wrangler

The VIN of the problem Wrangler is 1J4FA69S23_. I purchased a new 2003 Jeep Wrangler rubicon in may of 2003 with the dual top option. Since day one, whenever the full hard door is shut with the windows rolled up and the hardtop on, the rear glass pops open. The rear glass also pops open when you hit a bump in the road. Then the rear glass just flops around and hits the spare tire and you have to get out and push it shut, otherwise I'm afraid it might break the rear glass. My main concern is that it is a safety hazard as the owner's manual says to never drive with the rear window open (on soft top) unless you also have the front windows rolled down or exhaust fumes may enter the driver/passenger compartment and cause carbon monoxide poisioning! I assume the same thing can happen with the hard top on when the rear glass is open 2-3 inches and flopping around! I have taken it to the dealer twice and they tried lowering the rear glass by adjusting the hinges on the glass but the problem still exists. I contacted Jeep "star" tech support on 3 separate occassions and filed a complaint (file # 11586375) the service manager at our dealership said that he has seen this problem on some other hard top Jeeps and I also have seen the same complaint on the internet on Jeep forum chat rooms. Apparently Jeep does't take the problem seriously since I have owned the vehicle for 1 1/2 years and it hasn't been fixed yet. Maybe when someone dies from carbon monoxide poisoning they will take action! I believe this is a design flaw. The 2003 hardtop relies on the rear tailgate to keep the rear glass closed and there isn't enough overlap to securely hold the rear glass in place. It was May. 30, 2003 when this hatchback/liftgate lock issue occurred.

car   Hatchback/liftgate Lock problem of Nissan Quest

My 2004 Nissan Quest-have had same problem recur for almost 1 yr & dealer has not fixed it in 5 tries. On 7/21/04, brought my van in for service 'cause an alarm beeper would go off randomly when driving-comes from rear power liftgate. Besides the constant beeping, at times the liftgate will not open, also when open the liftgate will not close using the power buttons-then liftgate needs to be shut manually. At my 7/21/04 service appt, the dealer ordered a part that would be installed later to fix beeping. Picked the van up about 4:30 pm, got groceries, picked up daughter & drove home. On the way the van was beeping all the way when suddenly a flashing warning light came on that said "warning lift gate open". I panicked thinking my lift gate was about to fly open. I pulled over confused because liftgate was not open. I pushed interior control for lift gate but liftgate did not open. Thinking I was temp. Ok, I slowly drove home w/ flashing warning signal on whole time. When I got home-tried to open liftgate. It wouldn't budge-not w/ power controls inside van nor key fob. It wouldn't open manually either. At that point, I was afraid to drive van any further. Was well after 5 pm & the service dept would be closed but I called them anyway. I talked to john nelson, sales mgr & explained what happened. Told him I was afraid to drive van because of warning light but can't seem to open/close door either. He assured me that van has "safety mechanisms" that would prevent door from flying open while driving. I told him that it was hard to believe van was safe when it seemed warning lights were malfunctioning. Since 7/21/04 the warning light has not come on again. But the problem that preceded the warning light-the constant beeping-still happens all the time, but only when it's warm. Since I live in WI Nov 04-Mar 05 was problem free. Don't know if door will really fly open, but I know Quest already had recall for similar problem-sliding doors not latching in sub-40 weather. This problem occurred on Jul. 21, 2004.

car   Hatchback/liftgate Lock problem of Volvo V70

I purchased a 2000 Volvo V70, 5dr, wagon a/t awd, VIN: yv1lz56d7y2680421 from putnam Volvo 3 California drive burlingame CA. , an authorized Volvo dealership and repair service provider. Jan 14, 2000. All warranty and subsequent routine service was performed on the vehicle by putnam Volvo thru may 2004. Shortly after purchase of the vehicle my wife and I discover that the rear hatch latch would not properly engage, fasten or lock under cold temperature conditions meaning temperatures near or below freezing (32ã‹? f or 0ã‹?c). We reported the problem at the first scheduled maintenance service and periodically thereafter during scheduled maintenance service calls particularly during winter and spring months. We have a cabin in the high sierras where temperatures are below freezing during winter ski season. The rear hatch latch simply does not engage and the hatch can not be secured closed under cold conditions. I recently discovered NHTSA campaign id number : 00v239000 concerning the latches/ locks/linkages:tailgate:latch describing the problem we have repeatable experienced with our vehicle afflicting Volvo of the same year and model line as ours. I contacted the putnam Volvo service and requested replacement of the rear hatch latch of our vehicle based upon identified recall campaign. The service personnel performed a VIN search provided by Volvo, and asserted that our vehicle did not have the incorrectly manufacture rear hatch latch. Not did the service personnel offer to investigate whether the problem described in the recall campaign was in fact afflicting the vehicle, and even denied awareness of the recall campaign. This issue happened on Jan. 16, 2000.

car   Hatchback/liftgate Lock problem of Volvo V70

Vehicle identification number (VIN): YV1LZ56D4Y_. 2000 Volvo V70xc rear latch failure. My xc wagon has experienced intermittent rear latch failures since 2002. The problem only used to occur during the winters, which account for 3 months a year in MA. I brought it it to my Volvo dealer, barry's Volvo of dartmouth, MA on 2/17/2004. Since they were testing it in their heated garage, of course, the problem was not reproduced. They lubed the latch and sent the car home. We dealt with it for a year and then I found the tsbs on the internet, thanks to brickyard. Com and the NHTSA. I have since tried two more times to get my dealer to repair the latch as now the latch fails just about every time I close the rear trunk. I fear for my children's safety as well as my pet, who rides in the rear, and any belongings we place back there. I have called Volvo na and was told they would make sure my dealer would remedy the problem. I called the dealer again and they said there was no safety issue, recall or whatever for my car and they would gladly fix it at my expense. I've finnaly had enough and decided to file a complaint with the NHTSA since there is a documented problem with this car, nhtsa00v239000. The failure date was 02/14/2004.
