car   Latches/locks/linkage problem of Land Rover LR3

The car involved is a 2005 Land Rover Lr3. Please make formal note that the 2005 Land Rover lr-3 I purchased new in 2005 (VIN # below) from the dealer at Land Rover north scottsdale has an endemic and systematic door lock safety fault problem. Since my purchase of my lr-3 I have had to replace the passenger door [2 times], rear passenger door, rear driver door, and now the driver door lock has failed. These doors fail to lock when engaged. They click as if locking, but are open if handle is pulled with minimal force from inside or out. This has proven a safety issue when passengers are inside and assume the doors are locked, or when a child is inside and the driver assumes child locks, and or locks are engaged and they actually are not causing a risk of fall or death from the vehicle. Further, we became aware of the final of 4 door lock failures when an uninvited panhandler pulled the "locked" driver door open. Luckily no incident or injuries were occurred. None the less this is a major issue when all 4 doors fail. I have a friend with a 2008 lr-3 and the same has happened to 2 of his doors. This has been a major, major expense to repair these locks yet Land Rover has failed to acknowledge that a problem ever existed. Statistically speaking 4 out of 4 doors is a 100% failure rate. Please investigate this major safety issue immediately, and check for any deaths or harm that may have occurred due to Land Rovers failure to acknowledge their faulty lock system in these vehicles. I have records showing all the replacements and would be happy to testify and provide documentation. [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6). This problem occurred on Apr. 19, 2007.

car   Latches/locks/linkage problem of Land Rover Range Rover Sport

My 2010 Land Rover Range Rover Sport is equipped with a keyless entry and push button start. While the key is inside the vehicle, as a safety feature, the vehicle can not be locked from the outside at all times. However, this safety feature malfunctioned today leaving my 2 year old son locked on the inside of the vehicle with my car key on the inside. This happened when I placed my son inside the vehicle and my purse(with my car key inside) and have to go to the other side of the vehicle to open the door for my 4 year old daughter. Upon opening the door, it was locked. All doors were locked while my key is inside the vehicle and there is no way that the doors can be locked from the outside while the key is inside. I have to call 911 since my 2 year old son was locked inside the vehicle and the windows are all shut under a 90 degree weather. Thankfully a firefighter was able to open the door lock with his special equipment. It was Friday, Oct. 29, 2010 when this latches/locks/linkage issue occurred.

car   Latches/locks/linkage problem of Mercedes Benz S Class

The vehicle was a 2009 Mercedes Benz S Class. There are no child safety locks on the rear doors. The manufacturer seems to think the fact that the door locks once the car is moving over a specific speed is good enough, the problem is a child can still pull the handle twice to open the door while it's moving, or simply lift the rear lock latch and pull the door handle once, and out they kid goes at highway speeds. I personally don't understand how the manufacturer could get away with selling this car without this most basic safety feature for children's protection. Either we wait until some kids fly out this car before acting, or force the manufacturer to come up with a solution to this safety hazard. This latches/locks/linkage problem happened on 05/18/2012.

car   Latches/locks/linkage problem of Mercury Mariner

The vehicle involved is a 2008 Mercury Mariner. A couple days ago I started my car as usual before going to work to let it warm due to the weather. As I started backing out of my drive I realized my steering wheel isn't moving like it's supposed to. I stopped and turned the car off and then back on, then it was fine. As I'm driving and getting ready to switch lanes on the highway it does it again so I pull on the shoulder and get out the car to check under the hood, a man pulls over to help me seeing as I'm a woman on the side of the road and in my military uniform. He says it could be because of the weather but it should be fine. Now after 2 or 3 days the steering wheel shakes and vibrates and a rattling noise occurs at low speed and certain positions when the wheel is turned, or even at a standstill position. It has recurred several times since the first time and always when the car starts. It can be stopped by turning off the ignition and restarting the car. Also a wrench shows up in the message center, as I read my manual come to find out that's for the transmission. I've read a lot of the comments and complaints and have to wonder, will it take a death because of this for Ford to realize we're not making this up and it's not due to poor or lack of maintenance. car   Latches/locks/linkage problem of Saturn VUE

The vehicle is a 2006 Saturn Vue. The VIN of this Vue is 5GZCZ23D96_. A few times since the summer of 2003 we would try to shut the rear passenger car door and it would not catch to close. We put some lithium grease thinking it just needed that. This weekend while putting the kids in the car the door would not shut. It took 30 minutes of manipulating the handle, door locks and window to try and get the door to shut. We cannot let our children ride in the car because we know the latch could fail and our children could be put in harms way. It was Oct. 29, 2011 when this latches/locks/linkage issue happened.

car   Latches/locks/linkage problem of Subaru Outback

The car was a 1998 Subaru Outback. I was driving on interstate 90 in idaho at 62 mph when the hood latch failed. The hood was secured down all the way before the incident and had not been opened in two weeks. There had been over 100 miles of highway driving over 60 mph since the hood was last opened. The hood flew up with no safety catch or hesitation and slammed into the windshield. The windshield was shattered, the hood bent and the roof dented. The rear view mirror flew off inside. I was able to get to the side of the road and the person following me on the interstate pulled over and helped me tie it down to be able to leave the scene. We both determined it was latch failure. It had the potential to cause a serious accident as my front vision was completely blocked. This latches/locks/linkage issue occurred May 17, 2012.

The vehicle having this issue was a 2008 Suzuki Xl7. VIN of the vehicle was 2S3DB21718_. Last month in August my husband stayed in the car while I ran into store, out of habit I locked the door with the auto lock control. I live in florida and the temperature in Aug. Is extremely hot. After a little while he went to open the door and couldn't open the door or roll the windows down it was all locked up. He didn't have his keys to my car on him and to top it off he has claustrophobia. When I came back to the car he was blasting the horn and screaming at me for locking him in. He did not have his cell phone on him that day either. I told him to just undo the locks. He tried. I didn't believe him so he locked me in the same way. I could not get out either. He would have had to kick the window out to get out. He is so traumatized over the event that he has nightmares over it. This is a really bad safety feature. The failure date was Saturday, August 28, 2010.

car   Latches/locks/linkage problem of Volkswagen Jetta

The car is a 2010 Volkswagen Jetta. The vehicle identification number (VIN) is 3VWTL7AJ1A_. We have owned this 2010 Jetta sportwagen tdi since brand new. Today 1/28/14 is the fourth time we have had to replace the lock mechanism on one of the doors. Part numbers 3b4-839-016-ap (left rear), 3b1-837-016-cg (right front) and 3b4-839-015-ap (right rear) have all been replaced at least once. Right rear latch has been replaced twice - only once under warranty. In looking on NHTSA web site there are 8 other reports of problems with latches in the 2010 Jetta. This is a serious safety concern because most of the reports (including mine) were for doors that would not unlock and doors that would not open no matter what the reporting party tried. Can you imagine if these latches failed in an accident and children sitting in the rear seats were trapped?. The failure date was Monday, Apr. 18, 2011.

car   Latches/locks/linkage problem of Audi A4

The car is a 2009 Audi A4. After having my car for a year, it started to burn through oil at an increasing rate. Currently it is going through about 1 quart of oil every 1000 miles. I have taken the car in a few times to check for leaks or try to determine the location where it is going and have just been told that this model engine goes through at a faster pace and has been a common complaint amongst customers. In addition to this I have dealt with having to get the sunroof re-lubricated every few months, dealing with rattles in the doors, warping of the interior (dash, door panels, seat backs), and a one-time failure with the door latch not working during cold temperatures. This latches/locks/linkage issue occurred Tuesday, March 15, 2011.

car   Latches/locks/linkage problem of Audi A4

I own an Audi A4 2. 0. This car has a problem of locking unexpectedly and leaving the driver stranded. The first 2 times I was checking my mail at the top of the driveway but found locked out of the car when I returned to the car. Fortunately being near the home, I was able to get the duplicate key and get in. The most recent incident happened when my wife started the car and left the engine running to warm the car while she was cleaning the snow. Fortunately a policeman stopped and helped her unlock the car but the situation was bad and could have been dangerous. Each time I took the car, the dealer could not find any malfunction. The most recent one was a visit to the dealer today. They said that Audi is aware of a problem and has put out a bulletin just now, on 02/05/10. Changing the entire locks for the car at $1,500 was the recommended solution. Now the care is no longer under warranty but they didn't do anything when it was within the 50k warranty period. I checked on google. When you search for "locked-out Audi" you see numerous instances of lock malfunction. I believe that this is a manufacturers defect and should be fixed irrespective of the mileage on the car. It is a huge safety concern that needs to be corrected or else a driver can get stranded in a very unfortunate unsafe situation. It was Feb. 23, 2010 when this latches/locks/linkage issue happened.

car   Latches/locks/linkage problem of Jaguar XK8

The VIN of the problem Xk8 is SAJGX204XX_. I own a 1999 Jaguar Xk8. On August 8th I was riding on the highway when hydraulic fluid started to pour from the overhead near the internal lights. The hydraulic lines which feed the convertible top ruptured; my car has only 62,000 miles on it. I contacted Jaguar to lodge a complaint. They indicated that there had been no complaints about such events occurring in the Xk8 model. When I contacted the dealer service they had a ready price to fix the item. Accordingly in the bay at the time were 3 other owners who were experiencing the same problem. The cost to repair was well of 2500 dollars not including replacing seats and electronics or my clothes as the hydraulic fluid sprayed all over me. Jaguar takes no culpability for the problem. My concern is that if the top were down the hydraulic spray could have blown in to my eyes and caused a major accident due to my inability to see. Thus after numerous letters Jaguar has not accepted any responsibility for what is obvious as a design defect. I have retained the ruptured hydraulic lines and there is no indication that this is a recall item. It was Sat., Apr. 21, 2007 when this latches/locks/linkage issue happened.
