car   Other Fuel System Pump problem of Chevrolet Tahoe

The vehicle having this issue was a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe. Top of the fuel pump and those related fuel lines failed leading to a significant fuel leak, and really expensive repair. This truck is ten years old, fuel system parts shouldn't be rusting out like this. No other vehicle I've ever owned, no matter how old, has had an issue like this. Life safety and fire risk!. This other fuel system pump issue occurred Friday, May 23, 2014.

car   Other Fuel System Pump problem of Chevrolet Astro

The car was a 2000 Chevrolet Astro. Hi, I was driving this van when all of a sudden it stops. I had a very hard problem of trying to get off the road with no brakes or steering. I had it towed into service. They replaced everything fuel pump, sending unit, fuel filter, plugs, plug wires, distributor and reset the timing. It never did show up a check engine light or showed a code that something was wrong. I drove it two days later and it did the same thing. They checked it out and drove it again for a week and it happen again. I spent $1200 trying to get this safe to drive. It is as if the key was shut off. Finally with some of my knowledge about what can cause this to happen I checked the battery. It was only one year old. It showed up as bad under a load. When I took the van back to the repair shop they said battery showed good. Finally I took the battery back to auto zone they showed it as bad also and replaced it. Never had a problem after that. So the problem you are having with the key switch in all those cars you may have to double check the batterys. Voltage to the microprocessor should stay within limits of apx 8 volts. This might be more of a problem than the key switch. Thanks for reading this letter. The failure date was Oct. 1, 2013.

car   Other Fuel System Pump problem of Dodge Caliber

The vehicle is a 2007 Dodge Caliber. The vehicle identification number (VIN) is 1B3HB48C07_. I have a 2007 sxt Caliber, bought it brand new in 07, but now I have this issue. My husband drove the car to work, on his way home he stopped and filled the tank up then he went to eat at p. Hut. After we at he went to start it and nothing. It would act like it wanted to, but wouldn't. Well today we look it up on what it could possibly be and some said it was camshaft and crankshaft sensors. Well we replaced them and still nothing. So we decided to take the fuel pump out and behold the connectors going into the fuel pump were fried. Which could've caught fire. Called Dodge to see if they had any recalls and no they don't they said. I told them I wasn't the only one who has had this issue. They said well take it to the dealer but you will have to pay for the repairs, since the car is older and has some miles on it. My 2 children sit in the back of this car and now knowing that it could've started fire with them in it, really pisses me off and there's nothing they are gonna do about it. Really???? I will be going to the dealership and showing them what happened to fuel pump connectors and asking what they are gonna do about it. It's not like I'm taking the fuel pump out and burning it up. This is an issue that needs to be looked at and taken care of before someone gets hurt. It was May. 2, 2014 when this other fuel system pump issue happened.

car   Other Fuel System Pump problem of Ford F-350

The car was a 2011 Ford F-350. This diesel truck was being driven at 20 mph when without any warning, the engine shut off resulting in loss of all power steering and brakes. Would not restart. Towed to dealer service. Dealer diagnosed lack of fuel pressure and they observed metal shavings in the lower filter indicating the hpfp was disintegrating. Dealer submitted pictures of the flow control valve to Ford warranty prior approval per service manual directions. Dealer observation was that they observed no significant water or debris contamination in the fuel filter. Prior approval response was that the pictures submitted were representative of fuel contamination and denied the warranty coverage for the repair. No water in fuel indication was ever seen by owner. Filters maintained per maintenance schedule. Bill for repair is estimated at approx $11,000. Two weeks prior, this vehicle was towing a 14k lb 5th wheel down the santiam pass in oregon. Steep inclines, sharp drop offs, and snow on the road. A sudden loss of power without warning would very likely have resulted in loss of control of the vehicle, severe bodily injury, or death. It appears the bosch cp4 fuel pump was not designed to operate with the 560 scar fuel lubricity of us fuels and that Ford is blaming pump failures on water contamination by observation of a corrosion appearance on another component. Warranty coverage was denied without any observation of the fuel pump itself. Note that no indication that anything was wrong with the truck was observed prior to the failure. The truck is equipped with a factory 5th wheel hitch and is intended to haul up to 21. 5k lb trailers. Sudden loss of power steering and brakes without warning under this intended use is extremely dangerous. This problem occurred on 05/12/14.

Upon securing the first available diagnostic check from my local mechanic it was determined there was "fuel leaking from the top area of fuel tank, but many items would have to be moved out of the way to lower the fuel tank to make a more specific location of the site and cause of the leak, which would be labor intensive and costly because the entire rear cradle would have to be removed with the danger that old rusting bolts would break and might not be able to be replaced. Possible items that might need to be replaced, include the fuel tank, fuel filler neck and fuel pump. ". The failure date was Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014.

car   Other Fuel System Pump problem of Land Rover LR2

The car is a 2008 Land Rover Lr2. The VIN of this Lr2 is SALFP24N98_. Prior to event- car would stall out, would have to rev up to get going. Intermittent problems. 2008 landrover Lr2 shuts off at idle- bad fuel pump at 50, 000 miles multiple visits to the landrover dealership shop, fuel pump module fixed under warranty as per landrovers suggestion- prior to 50,000 miles, after hitting 50,000 miles and warranty no longer valid, problem found! fuel pump needs replaced for a very unreasonable $ rate . (as originally suggested by owners) see what the shop didn't know was prior to them replacing the module and reading the codes, I went and had the codes read at another shop. The dealership fixed code- po62800, when actually the codes that the check engine light was reading was 0087, 0305, 0306, 0300. All codes that would have let you know that this was surely a fuel pump error. Obviously a scam, so that the warranty would run up, and we would have to pay out of pocket. In the end, when you read online, this is a very common problem with these vehicles, and these dealerships. In addition, they have also noted that the rear differential needs replaced?. This problem occurred on Monday, November 22, 2010.

car   Other Fuel System Pump problem of Lexus LS400

The vehicle involved was a 1993 Lexus Ls400. Recently the car began to stumble under acceleration while driving up a hill or merging into traffic or maintaining speed while driving on the interstate. I initially thought it was a fuel supply issue so I changed out the the fuel filter, without any improvement in the problem. I was going to change the fuel pump also and while researching on the internet I learned of a problem with bad electrolytic capacitors inside the car's ecu (engine computer) which can mimic a fuel supply problem. I am a trained electronics technician, so I removed and disassembled the vehicle's ecu and replaced 2 capacitors (cost, less than $1) that I could see were bad (leaking electrolyte fluid). I test drove the car and the "fuel supply problem" was gone, it drove normally again and did not stumble when the accelerator pedal was pressed. I ordered the other 5 or 6 electrolytic capacitors in the ecu (from an outside source, the dealer will only sell a complete ecu for $2000 plus) to hopefully prevent future occurances. In conclusion, it appears the bad capacitors are the result of a "large-scale industrial espionage foul-up". Not a joke! this resulted in defective capacitors being used in many electronic assemblies (consumer electronics, automotive, household, etc. This other fuel system pump issue occurred 04/01/2014.. I just bought a 1999 mishibishi eclipse in sept. 2004(last month) I took my car in to my mechanic where I have always gone, for a thorough inspection & major tuneup etc. He found that the head gasket is shot. !!!!! it is leaking oil from the engine block, and will continue to get worse. The car only has 63,000 miles on it. . !. My mechanic told me this was "famous" for this type car & model, and that mishisbishi should know about this! upon further research I found he was correct. I went on line to see ratings for this car and found 4 other owners of this car had the same problem and that was just one page of my research!! my mechanic told me no way should this happen at 63,000 miles! the cost to repair this is approx. $2000. 00. . It is a major repair. Since others have had the same problem, I really feel mishibishi should pay for this repair!!! it is their screwup. car   Other Fuel System Pump problem of Toyota 4runner

The car involved is a 2012 Toyota 4runner. The VIN of this 4runner is JTEBU5JR0C_. I came home last night at about 9:30 pm and parked the car in the garage. This morning at 7:30 am I went into the garage and heard a buzzing sound coming from near the rear wheels of the car. My best guess was the fuel pump was still running (I had had a different problem with a fuel pump not running when the ignition was turned on with a 2000 Jaguar about a year ago). I turned the ignition on and off without cranking the engine, the buzzing continued. I started the 4runner, ran it for about 20 seconds, and shut the engine off. Buzzing stopped. car   Other Fuel System Pump problem of Volkswagen Jetta

The vehicle was a 2010 Volkswagen Jetta. Summary: while driving on the highway in the high speed lane in traffic at night in a unlit area of rt 84 in willington CT. Going to pickup my teenage daughter and her 2 friends after a concert car without warning lost all power. I had to navigate through 3 lanes of traffic without power steering or power brakes to the breakdown lane. I made it to the breakdown lane but ended up close to the road in a rural dark unlit part of the highway. The car would not restart and had to be left leaving me stranded late at night and I am disabled with diabetes and several other serious health issues. I could feel my blood sugar was dangerously low with nothing in the car to stablize it. I had problems contacting help because of the time of night and lack of cell service in that area. Upon further investigation it was found that the problem with the car was the high pressure fuel pump exploded sending metal throughout the entire fuel system. I think it is unaceptable for this to happen without warning. My daughter and 2 friends were also stranded 60 miles away in worcester MA. Vw is aware of many thousand of this same event but won't recall. I think the ntsb should demand a recall. I am sure people have died and been seriously injured in similar events. Cost of repair $11,000. 00 or more to replace the entire fuel system. I called vwoa for support and they said they wouldn't cover the repair. I then called the dealer who sold me the car vw of hartford CT. And they were rude as they told me I would have to pay for any repairs. I am low income and with my health issues I thought this car would outlive me. I don't have the money to fix this and I shouldn't have to. Vw is covering these issues even out of warranty to qiet the ntsb but won't cover mine the poor disabled man. This problem occurred on May. 16, 2014.

car   Other Fuel System Pump problem of Volvo XC70

The vehicle was a 2002 Volvo Xc70. The vehicle's vehicle identification number (VIN) was TV1SZ58D52_. Fuel pump cracked, slow leak on to gas tank causing extreme fumes, myself, 5 month old granddaughter and her mother were sick from thestrong fumes. I after that trip I found out about the recall this could have caused a fire and we all would have gone up in flames. This pump is under the rear seat where the two passangers where sitting. On March 22, 2014, the three of us went to arrundel mills mall close to baltimore on the way home to alexandria va. , we smelt strong gas fumes. Even with all the windows and sunroof open the fumes did not disapate. I called don beyer Volvo and fairfax Volvo and both stated the warrantee had expired so this replacement is not covered. I was not aware that recall notices expired! I was told if I had brought the car in when there was no problem they would not have replaced the pump even for safety reasons. So what good is a recall there should be a statement on recalls " you must keep up your warrantee updated on all vehicle parts". Because the warrantee expired in 2012, 10 years from 2002, I bought the car in 2004, the recall came out in 2009, I was stillunder warrante at that time. If I brought the car in to get repaired, both Volvo dealers service departments stated they would not have replaced the part because there was nothing wrong with it at that time. This is the onlly vehicle I own my daughter cannot drive and my granddaughter is only 5 mos. Old, will Volvo, don beyer, or fairfax Volvo pay for three funeral expenses, is that what it will take. This problem occurred on Mar. 22, 2014.

car   Other Fuel System Pump problem of Volvo S60

The vehicle was a 2004 Volvo S60. The VIN of the problem S60 is YV1RH59H14_. I had my car in for service at my local Volvo repair shop and one of the items I had them investigate was a fuel smell. They told me they found a crack at fuel pump sender rh side. They mentioned that they thought there was a recall for this since they have seen it several times before and that I should contact my Volvo dealer. I just looked online and found what they were talking about but it does not list the state where I purchased the vehicle and reside? I am the original owner. The repair shop did contact a local dealer for me and the dealer told them that there was not a recall? I guess I will contact some other local dealers this week and see what they say? seems like colorado should have been added to this recall every state near us is part of it. If I cant get this repaired under the recall what should I do to make it happen?. It was 03/21/14 when this other fuel system pump issue occurred.

The vehicle is a 2012 Audi A4. Only five minutes after starting car in morning, engine rapidly lost power and quit completely while in 60 mph traffic on heavily traveled interstate 526 in charleston, SC. Coasted car out of traffic lanes to side, a very dangerous location on elevated roadway. Had car towed to Audi dealer, who said they tested and found fuel pump had failed. They replaced fuel pump and engine seems to run normally now. In four decades of driving I've never had a fuel pump fail. This one put my wife and me in jeopardy due to the sudden and complete loss of engine power in middle of fast, heavy traffic. We were lucky to get out without being hit by oncoming trucks & traffic. The failure date was Sat., Apr. 5, 2014.

car   Other Fuel System Pump problem of BMW 535

The vehicle is a 2010 BMW 535i. My 3 kids and I had left the bwm dealer after I had parts serviced/parts replaced, and jumped on the interstate. I was cruising around 70mph when I felt the car slow down and the msg "engine malfunction, reduce speed" appeared. I veered to the right a little, but I quickly found and exit and pulled over. Fortunately, the traffic on the interstate was lite and an accident was avoided, but it did get my heart racing. The dealer said this was a "common" type of msg, but I'm weary. I tried telling them about the fuel pump issue, but they said my car was not affected. They wanted to charge me another diagnostic fee and I just paid to have my car serviced and diagnosed! they also suggested I continue to drive it until the issue forces me to have to bring it in - basically until something breaks. I would have the dealer would have started with replacing the high pressure fuel pump and moving on from there since it is a documented problem. We'll see what happens. This problem occurred on 04/24/2014.

car   Other Fuel System Pump problem of BMW 528

The car involved was a 2010 BMW 528i. I noticed a smell of fuel each time my wife parked her car inside our garage. Her car for due a service so I took the vehicle in for a full service. The mechanic called and asked if we had been smelling fuel inside or around the vehicle. He then explained that he suspected it was originating from underneath the rear seat. He later contacted me to explain that the plastic tube located on top of the in-tank electric fuel pump assembly had developed a crack and was allowing fuel to spray out on top of the assembly, which was allowing fuel and fumes to build-up in-and-around the vehicle. He recommended we replace it immediately due to safety concerns. When I went to pickup the vehicle, he showed me the crack in the fuel pump assembly, and explained that he had never seen one crack like that. Taking the vehicle in for maintenance and finding the problem with the fuel pump assembly at the time that we did, I believe, was a disaster avoided. We are planning a trip out of town, and will leave the vehicle in our garage for approximately 5 days. Our home gas (open flamed) hot water heater is located inside our garage. My wife often backed her car into our garage which placed the rear of the vehicle approximately 2 to 3 feet from the open flames of the hot water heater. I shutter to think what might have happened if we had left the vehicle with the leaking fuel and fumes, and open flames from the hot water heater shutup in our garage for 5 days. Not only would we have lost our car, but quite possibly our home. This problem occurred on Dec. 19, 2013.

car   Other Fuel System Pump problem of Jaguar X-type

The car involved is a 2007 Jaguar X-type. On two separate occasions (1/27/12 and 3/23/12) the vehicle was traveling 65-70 mph on an interstate highway and the engine stalled. The vehicle could not be restarted and was towed to the dealer. For the 1/27/12 event, the vehicle stalled out in the passing lane and I had to make it to the right shoulder. The dealer did not determine the cause after an exhaustive diagnosis. It also included driving the vehicle over 400 miles, most of them at a high speed, in an attempt to duplicate the problem. It did stall-out once, and the vehicle restarted after 30 minutes. The second event was a merge from one interstate to another with the vehicle stopping on an exit ramp bridge leaving little room between the car and bridge wall on one side and the exit ramp on the other. This resulted in the recommendation to replace the two fuel pumps - which I have in my possession. I do want to point out that in both events we were in great fear for our safety. I assume this is not a common problem, since there has been no recall of the fuel pumps. I did want to report it in case there is an emerging problem. This other fuel system pump issue occurred Fri., Jan. 27, 2012.
