The vehicle is a 2002 Chevrolet Venture. Abs brake failure with awd disable. Abs light came on with awd disable message, both are connected. With abs failure, awd is disables. Failure required replacement of part. No consequences because it was summer and no snow, winter would have been different story. Only part that failed was replaced but there is a service bulletin and re-engineered part due to obvious problems. Bulletin is #03-05-25-004a. Concern is that abs and awd fail at same time, I feel this is a serious safety hazard in winter driving, the type you buy a awd for. I have contacted gm and the refuse to replace other part. It was Fri., Jul. 15, 2005 when this power train driveline issue occurred.

The vehicle was a 2003 Chrysler town and country. The bracket the holds the carrying bearing on the drive shaft broke. This caused the drive shaft to hang down and almost touch the ground. As for the correction, I am still looking for a replacement part. There was a quick fix to the drive shaft bracket, but now there is a very loud rattle in the drive shaft. It was Sunday, May 20, 2007 when this power train driveline issue happened.

The car involved was a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500. Driving down road and felt and heard a loud bang under truck . Emergency brake and abs lites came on and speedometer stopped working. Immediatly went to the garage to have it checked. Mechanic told me that the speed senser was broken and gear oil was leaking from the senser. When he removed the speed senser he noticed that the under side was distroyed. He then removed the differential cover and found that the retaining clips had come out and destroyed the differential unit. The differential unit and bearings were replaced with new Dodge parts. This issue happened on Jun. 13, 2011.

The vehicle identification number (VIN) is 1FMZU63K33_. 2003 Ford Explorer. Consumer writes in regards to humming/whining noise in the rear end of vehicle and a frequent leak in the differential. The consumer stated several components such as the ring an pinion, bearings, seals and gear and pinion were all replaced. However, the issue remained unresolved. Also, the rear hatch was cracked. When the consumer inquired about a replacement and its cost, the dealer advised against the replacement/repair as the new hatches had the same problem. The vehicle overheated and had to be towed to the dealer. A diagnosis revealed a damaged thermostat housing. It was Mar. 31, 2008 when this power train driveline issue occurred.

The vehicle having this issue was a 2010 Acura Mdx. The VIN of this vehicle is 2HNYD2H58B_. In the middle of my roadtrip from tampa to buffalo, in one of the rest areas close to florence, SC on I-95 my steering wheel was hard to turn, realized that the power steering reservoir was empty due to a leak in my new Acura Mdx 2011( ~7000 miles). Filled it up with power steering fluid and drove to an Acura dealer, who could not diagnose/fix the problem since he did not have a technician on Saturday, drove to the Acura dealer falls church, va ( since he was open on Sunday) and they diagnosed that the leak was from the power steering rack and it had to be replaced. The dealer replaced the rack and it has not leaked ever since. This is for an Acura Mdx 2011 advanced package ( cannot find Acura 2011 information on vehicle tab). It was 07/16/2011 when this power train driveline issue happened.

2008 Infiniti M35 sport has a severe tramlining problem. Driving the car above 60 mph the steering becomes very unpredictable. The car likes to swerve left and right and rarely wants to travel in a straight line. Sometimes the car actually goes into the other lane. Car will not track straight for more than a second or two at highway speeds. Even more noticeable is at slower speeds (I. E. Coming to a stop) vehicles pulls very hard as though it has hit a large pothole. I am very disappointed. It was Thursday, November 20, 2008 when this power train driveline issue happened.

I bought my son a Nissan Infiniti G35 s make 2007. When driving, all of a sudden he noticed battery light on, brake light on and power steering quit working. Turning the steer was extremely hard, much much harder than a nonpower steering. Fortunately he has strong hands and is used to driving an old nonpower steering vehicle, hence he was able to still drive it. Most elderly, or females would end up with an accident,when at high speed, they can not turn the steering wheel. Especially if it happens without any warning at high speed. I took it to dealer. Found drive belt tensioner out of alignment with pulleys. Drive belt coming apart. Dealer replaced drive belt and drive belt tensioner for free. Within warranty time. But I think it is a safety hazard if it happens again to him or anybody. Hence I am notifying your agency so you can investigate and keep track. The failure date was Apr. 23, 2009.

This could cause transmission failure, particularly on mountainous terrain where the possibility of a fatality could occur. Chrysler has issued a recall noting that this condition could occur. The "fix" is an audible chime in addition to the warning light on the instrument panel instead of addressing the root of the problem such as the addition of a larger oil cooler, oil pan with larger capacity to keep oil cooler, or some other repair. The car involved is a 2006 Land Rover Range Rover Sport. While driving my vehicle at approximately 40 mph, I began to hear a loud squeal from beneath my vehicle, but no service lights were illuminated on the dash. Because something was clearly wrong, I pulled to the side of the road and had the vehicle towed. It was later determined that my front differential had failed after only 30,000 miles. Land rover is aware of the problem, however no recall was ever issued only a "special service message" to dealers. I subsequently learned that I was fortunate as some users have had the differential lock up bringing the vehicle to a skidding halt. This is clearly a safety issue and Land Rover should address the problem with a recall. This power train driveline issue occurred 01/07/11.

The car involved was a 2004 Land Rover new Range Rover. Driving on city streets, about to enter the freeway, the vehicle lost power, making awful mechanical noises. The engine was running but pressing on the accelerator resulted in metallic crunching noise and no movement. I was stranded, the vehicle was towed some 35 to the purchasing dealer. I was informed that the front differential / drive shaft failed and will be replaced. This is the second such failure. The first occurred in October 2006. Luckily both times were at slow speeds, close to home, and during the day. If this catastrophic failure of the front differential / drive shaft were to occur at speed?I hate to think of the accident that might happen, the damage and injuries that might occur. This is a serious design flaw which the company needs to address with a new design to replace the defect and dangerous design. It was Sun., May. 4, 2008 when this power train driveline issue occurred.

The car is a 2010 Lexus Rx350. The VIN of the car is 2T2ZK1BA6A_. Part 23565 c-vehicle would not move. C-broken retaining clip holding right front axle to transmission. Also found a missing bolt in bearing carrier. This is a 2010 Lexus RX 350 I purchased in Feb. 2010 for $44,000 with 15,000 miles on it from the fremont Lexus dealership in fremont, CA. Very scary! luckily I was only traveling about 10 miles an hour at the time. The transmission would not move. Was told old part could not be given to me. Lexus of concord, CA fixed it. Fremont Lexus only offered to buy back for $33,000. This power train driveline issue occurred September 13, 2010.

The vehicle involved was a 2008 Lexus Ls460. The VIN of the problem Ls460 is JTHBL46F08_. We've purchased a 2008 Lexus 460 on Jan 2008, within few months we started noticing a jerking reaction of the engine while the car was stopped or idling in gear most of the time. Over time we've taken the car to the dealer (at least 4 times) with no substantial improvements, they've upgraded the transmission software checked it out and could not come up with a fix. The last was in November 09 and we were told to contact the CO. Fo factory rep to inspect the car. So far they have not inspected the car and we are afraid that it may cause to an accident. This issue happened on Mar. 14, 2008.

There was a recall by the manufacturer to replace rear axels & bearings on 2003 towncars with certain VIN #s (recall # 04v328000) my car had exactly the same failure as mentioned in the recall and I feel that the company should pay or the repair. I only have 39,840 miles pon the car. The problem was corrected by the dealer and I had to pay a portion of the charge. I feel the repair work should have been done nc under the recall, whether the VIN was on it or not, the failure is the same. This power train driveline issue occurred Thu., May. 8, 2008.

The car involved is a 2006 Mazda Tribute. I am the original owner of a 2006 Tribute. At just under 50,000 miles the abs light came on and the 4wd started flashing. The dealership said it was the ring on one of the front axles. Turns out it was the passenger side. Now, just last month, at about 70,000 miles the lights and flashing started again. This time it was the driver side axle that went bad. We have also had to replace both u-joints. Even worse, the area dealerships said we needed to buy the entire drive shafts to fix the problem; they're about $800 each because Mazda does not carry just the u-joints. The first parts store we called had them in stock and they were $23 for both. It was July 24, 2010 when this power train driveline issue happened.

The ring is not available anywhere and Mazda told me the shaft will have to be replaced. The part alone $325. Plus labor. The Mazda parts people told me it's a shame that you can't just replace the ring. And that there known for braking. It does effect the operation of the brakes. I have not replaced the shaft yet still looking for the ring. This power train driveline problem happened on 01/18/09.

I own a 1999 Mercedes Benz Ml430 SUV. While driving my vehicle to work on the highway, it lost complete power and power steering. Thank god I was operating the vehicle and not my wife, with infant child. After being diagnose by my local Mercedes Benz dealership with a faulty harmonic balancer, causing damage to the belts, oil pan, timing chain cover, etc, I was advised by my service rep that Mercedes Benz of USA is very aware of this hazardous/dangerous condition and that they have replaced many harmonic balancers under warranty but they (mb USA) will not cover assume responsibility for vehicles out of warranty. My vehicle had 55,000 miles at the time. I thank you for your time and I hope that our complaints will light a fire under mb USA's behind. The VIN of this vehicle is 4M2ZU86W54_. We put two new tires on the front of the vehicle in July 2006 on our 2004 Mercury Mountaineer awd. In Dec 2006 we took the vehicle into the dealer south hills Lincoln Mercury for a transmission problem and state and emission inspection. The dealer fixed problem with transmission, and did inspections. Then two weeks later,on new years eve, we broke down. Vehicle was towed to nearest Ford dealer in bedford, PA. The bedford dealer said due to the different "circumference" of the new tires on the front and the older tires in the rear it ruined the differential and transfer case on the highway. Our manual states nothing about this only says to put on the same style and type of tire which we did. They said the circumferences of the tires can not be more than 1/4" different. The factory rep says if we would have taken the car to the dealer for tires they would have told us this. They are blaming the tire dealer for not knowing this tolerance. The tire dealer says 1/4" tolerance is ridiculous. The cost of the repairs and rental car is over $5000. 00 south hills Lincoln Mercury in pittsburgh was going to honor the warranty secretly for me, because they sympathized with my problem and I think the service mgr there knows Ford has a bad engineering drivetrain. However bedford Ford notified the Ford factory rep and now south hills Mercury is backing out of honoring warranty. My complaints are: why doesn't the manual state anything about the tire circumferences? is this really the cause? 1/4" tolerance is way to small in the engineering of the drivetrain? - if one tire gets damaged after 10,000 miles you have to replace all four tires I guess? why was one dealer going to honor warranty and the other not? why didn't the dealer notice this problem when they inspected the car and worked on the transmission problem? part of the inspection process is to measure tread depth. If there was a big difference shouldn't that have been a red flag. This power train driveline problem happened on 12/31/06.

2006 Mitsubishi Raider @ 42,000 miles. This vehicle has been nothing but problems with no solutions. First I had electrical problems, lights and dash cutting off, no speedometer, radio would cut off. Once it wouldn't crank, I had to have it towed to the dealership, where they said I was missing a fuse, apparently it fell out while in route to dealership, because I checked all of them before I called tow truck, checked with test light, all were working, all were in place. . . . . . . 50. 00 for the tow, 40. 00+ to replace a fuse. Constantly uses brake fluid. . . . . Took to dealer and they said it was low on brake fluid. . . . . Probably because it was leaking all over the drum, dealer did not fix. Had some kind of ecu replaced for electronics, still didn't fix problem. Trucks rear brakes began to drag and lock up. Called dealer, they said my series of VIN numbers wasn't included in there recall, even though it was doing the same as the so called recalled vehicles. Eventually I guess it broke, because it hasn't been dragging the brakes, although there is a large brake fluid leak on drivers side rear tire, and now my rear end(hog head)(gearcase) is leaking gear oil. I just don't understand why there are no solutions to Mitsubishi's mistakes unless they are resolved from my wallet. I guess they are only liable if more than 100 people are killed in accidents happen. . . . . . . Toyota stood up and fixed their problem. . . . . . . How come Mitsubishi cant? thoroughly disgusted by dealers and their service department. . . . . . . . Or lack of service department. I have had verbal confrontations with all service managers, even contacted Mitsubishi main office, still at no prevail. . . . . . . So I guess I will drive it to the wheels fall off, shouldn't be much longer, rear end is leaking fairly bad now. I can't afford to have it fixed, even though they should be held responsible for their mistakes. . . . . The failure date was March 22, 2006.

While in the repair shop it was found that the center support bearing for the drive shaft was comming apart, rubber bushing was seperating and needed to be replaced. I was told this is a common problem. Was also told the front lower control arm bushings were seperating. The cost for the bearing was between $450. And $500. Dollars, the control arm bushings repair would be $280. Dollars. I believe these parts are defective as the car only has 53,731 miles on it. The bearing defect will cause a vibration of the drive shaft as it becomes worse. The control arms will cause a clunk when going over bunps. This power train driveline problem happened on Jul. 6, 2011.

While driving around a snowy corner on xxx road, the vehicle lost complete control when all of its anti-slip, anti-swerve and anti-lock systems all immediately failed a simultaneously. My vehicle is currently experiencing the following safety defects: 2. While driving on the palisades parkway on 8/08/06, under a year from its purchase, we heard a loud band in the engine compartment. There was a loss of control of the vehicle, several warning lights went off on the dashboard, including the oil light. The vehicle then began pouring a thick white smoke that I couldn't see through, out from under the hood and also out of the tailpipe. Not only was I unable to see through the front windshield, the potential for an oil fie was tremendous!!!!! this is the second hazardous situation this vehicle put me through. There was a banging noise in the engine compartment with a major loss of power. I performed an emergency stop and pulled into the south bound sunoco station. Upon stopping the vehicle I discovered oil streaming form under the front of the vehicle. There was enough oil to completely cover the pavement under the vehicle, I believe it was several quarts. I then contacted Subaru roadside service who picked up the vehicle. You can contact jeffs towing service for additional information on the vehicles condition. This problem occurred on 08/05/06.

Driving at 60 miles per hr and the car s speed will drop down to 20 miles and the engine light will come on (check engine)also I will be stopped at a red light when it is time to proceed and while pressing on gas pedal it will only go up to 5-8 miles it occurs every two to three days. The Suzuki dealership has looked at it 5 times for the same thing they check the computer chip and tell me the gas cap was not on tight they replaced the gas pedal. They replaced the hose leading to the gas and pedal and they have it now again I just want my car fixed. This issue happened on Friday, February 8, 2008.

The vehicle is a 2006 Volkswagen Touareg. I own a 2006 vw Touareg. It has only 54k miles and has never been driven off road. It has been a family car and bought new in 2006. Just yesterday sept 2009 I left a parking lot and began accelerating when it sounded like and felt like the car lost the front two tires. I quickly pulled over thinking I would see blown tires but saw nothing. Got back in drove a 100 feet to have the same noise and shaking. I pulled over and had it towed to nearest vw shop. Found out the drive shaft was shot. $1100 for the part and only $65 to install new drive shaft. Mechanic thought it was interesting that the local vw dealer happen to have one in stock. He thought it meant they must be having this problem with a lot of Touaregs. I am going to call vw in hopes that they will take some responsibility. Is this not an off road vehicle? they sure market it as one. I can't imagine what would be broke and how quickly it would have broke if I did drive it off road. I have noticed some cheap aspects of the interior of the car as buttons have faded due to touching them for use. I have had a few issues with tire pressure sensors as well but have been fixed by dealer. I frequently have the lights on the car needing to be replaced almost like a small electrical issue. Check light warning light comes on often. My biggest concern is that this was a 40k dollar car and looks nice but seems a bit cheap for what we paid for it. It has taken a few years of driving it to come to this conclusion but it is disappointing. I like vw and have owned many over the years. I hope they will stand behind these issues. 2003 BMW X5 4. 4i transfer case/front drive shaft failed leaving car stranded on a railroad crossing with no power. Rr lights began to flash but manged to push car off tracks in time once we found help (too heavy to push alone). Same failure at 90k miles had stranded car on a local street about 2. 5 years earlier. BMW replaced transfer case and front drive shaft under certified pre-owned warrantee. Current failure occurred on transfer case/drive shaft less than 40k miles / 2. 5 years old. Same failure is well documented with numerous other owners on various internet message boards. Research suggests the failure is due to a design flaw invoving insufficient spline engagement and poor placement of a/c condesate drain directly above tranfer case / shaft connection causing accelerated rusting of drive shaft splines which eventually weaken and strip out. Attempted to get BMW to cover repair out-of-warrantee due to circumstances of early failure fo a drivetrain part. Multiple calls (messages for service managers) to two local dealerships went unreturned. Call to Bmwna was unhelpful - would not take any action until car was towed to a dealership for inspection at my expense and would (at best) be repaired with same parts of poor design. The failure date was Thursday, Jul. 7, 2011.

The dealer replaced the transmission and the transfer case. Approximately one week later, while traveling 65 mph the transmission failed. The dealer stated that the transfer case or the transmission could have caused the failure. As of may 27, 2008, the dealer had not repaired the vehicle. The failure mileage was 50,100 and current mileage was 50,150. The VIN was unavailable. It was 05/15/08 when this power train driveline issue happened.

Rear differential now has to be replaced and the car only has 80,000 miles on it. We also have to replace the rack and pinion. The total costs associated with both these will be well over $5,000. It is effecting the turning process when I need to turn the car. Also have a rack and pinion failure. The steering column completely locked up and the towing company had to put oil all over where the car was parked and slide it up to the cable to tow the car. Entire steering mechanism replaced but now the rack and pinion has to be replaced. I think it is due to the steering column issue. That is when it started. This power train driveline issue occurred July 12, 2008.

Jaguar: Xj8l, 2000: the timing chain guides/tensioners broke causing catastrophic failure to the engine. It could have happened in traffic as it did to a friend with a year older. With such failure the engine stops abruptly, no matter where it is. This risks serious accidents with injury or death on highways. The guides/tensioners fail before 100k miles any time between about 60 and 95k. They are made of plastic. A new kit is available with metal parts but at $1200 cost for the kit and Jaguar does not pay for it, nor the labor to install the new guides, nor the other damage to the engine when the tensioners/guides fail. This situation is a major topic on edmunds, and other sites. This was a major design and manufacturing flaw that has affected this model for years. Why hasn't the NHTSA done something about this major, high risk failure?. It was January 7, 2010 when this power train driveline issue happened.
