Power Train Problems in popular cars

Power Train problem is a common vehicle problem that happens to most car brands and models. The following is a sample list of Power Train problems reported in most popular vehicles.

car   Power Train problem of Chevrolet Silverado

The vehicle was a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado. I bought my 2012 texas edition Silverado August 4, 2012 the transmission started responding abnormal immediately after leaving the dealership it had 135 miles on it before I bought it I have 32k miles now and nothing has change all the same issues but they seem to be getting worst. My transmission has a hard time shifting no matter what, up, down, turn, forward all normal driving maneuvers. When it does try and shift the engine clatters which is extremely ridiculous I've had several Silverado's and the last one that clatter this way was a 1978 with probably over 300,000(expected). My transmission does as stated by others the coming to a stop sign and applying the brakes the truck will launch forward unexpectedly and shift extremely hard this is the first new vehicle I've ever bought the last 4 were all Silverado from 78-94 and they didn't do this. This truck also wears the outer edge of my tres no matter how many alignments and balance and rotating I get done. You may say your tire your fault but I've looked at over 40 2012 Silverado's in parking lots and saw the exact same wear pattern the owners are probably not the type to check or care. The biggest concern is the $30,000 I paid for this thing and expected it to run for the next 20 years but I'm at less than 2 years and it feels like the transmission and engine are going to jump out and fly through an intersection leaving me at a green light. If I were to let any chevy "big shot" drive this for 1 week as their daily driver (it's my daily) they would probably stop driving it on day 1 and ask me how I've done it for almost 2 years. My reply would be I don't have the money to get another one and you "big shot" need to get this fixed. Active duty military (no money) over worked under paid. Took my savings bought a truck that I waited 23 years to buy and then the thing is in worst shape than the 1994 extendedcab I had. This power train issue occurred 08/04/12.

car   Power Train problem of Chrysler Sebring

The car was a 1999 Chrysler Sebring convertible. The vehicle's vehicle identification number (VIN) was 3C3EL55H7X_. This car is a death trap and needs to be investigated. Car will lose all power, steering, and brakes while traveling at speeds up to 55mph. This is very dangerous and I almost killed myself because of this issue. I have taken the car to 3 mechanics and they cannot diagnose the problem. Chrysler won't even return my calls regarding the issue, which I've researched and found hundreds of others with this same problem. This is a huge safety hazard and Chrysler should take responsibility for whatever it is that is causing this to happen. I'm wondering if I can take legal action against them. The car involved was a 2008 Honda Accord. The vehicle's vehicle identification number (VIN) is JHMCP26318_. When starting Honda for the first time during the day or after it has sit for a while, it makes a noise or rough start up. I have done some research and found out what the issues is, it is vtc actuator. I have read numerous complaints about this issue. If I had known at the time that this was going to be an issue I would not have purchased this vehicle. But the sales man knew when to start the car away from us, didn't find out till the day after the purchase. We bought it used. The part is a bit pricey and Honda should be responsible for this charge, since it is not the first car that has had this issue. It seems to be a bad year for the Accord. car   Power Train problem of Hyundai Sonata

The vehicle is a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. The VIN of this vehicle was 5NPEC4AC0B_. On 5 occasions my car has temporarily stalled/lost power for an instant, always at freeway speed within 10 miles of my home. The sensation is as if the car had run into something heavy on the pavement. It violently pitched my wife and I forward and I expect that we would have hit the dash had we not been wearing seatbelts. After exiting the freeway in all cases, the car had barely enough acceleration to drive more than 25 mph for the couple of miles to the dealer. The dealer claims that they cannot repair a problem which they cannot duplicate. I understand this but find it difficult to believe that Hyundai has never heard of this issue before. I strongly feel that my vehicle is unsafe and needs to be repaired under the manufacturer's warranty. I am only 30,000 miles into a 100,000 mile warranty. This power train issue occurred May. 2, 2012.

car   Power Train problem of Infiniti M45

The vehicle is a 2003 Infiniti M45. The VIN of this M45 is JNKAY41E03_. This vehicle randomly will shut down all mechanical systems simultaneously at any speed which creates an extremely dangerous situation, especially around other traffic, which could result in a crash. The car's "service engine soon" light appears, the car immediately loses engine power, brakes, and steering and many times will not restart immediately which puts the passengers at risk of a crash in any situation. These are the exact same symptoms of a recall issued by Infiniti for the 2003 M45, however, Infiniti insists that this vehicle is not included in the recall. I have already changed the crank position sensors. Camshaft position sensor(s), and in some cases, the variable timing control sensor(s). The failure date was Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014.

car   Power Train problem of Infiniti G35

The vehicle was a 2007 Infiniti G35. There is a hesitation when accelerating from stop and the vehicle is warmed after about 10 minutes of running. When tachometer hits 1100 rpms the engine sputters down to about 800 rpm and jerks forward. This does not appear to be a transmission issue as this happens every time whether in drive, park or neutral. Vehicle has only stalled once so far. There appears to be reports of this being related to a rear timing belt shield gasket. This is very concerning with the vehicle stalling. It was Wednesday, March 5, 2014 when this power train issue happened.

car   Power Train problem of Kia Motor Spectra

The vehicle involved was a 2007 Kia Motor Spectra. I was driving on the highway when all of a sudden the check engine light came on and I lost all power in the gas pedal,( you can floor the peddle and it dont go over 2000 rpm ) almost resulting in a collision. It only comes on when it want to, I had the codes checked at auto zone and they said its saying all the cylinoides are bad. I looked up this problem online and there are alot of owners experiencing this same issue in the same year, +1 and-1, and with the same approximate mileage, it says that kia has come out with an update to the transmission computer to remedy the issue, the kia dealer wants an outrageous amount to update the computer, when discussing this with kia corporate they said well if a recall is issued then we can get refund, but I dont have the cash to pay for the repair, an update should be free, they are acknowledging the defect, there for because of the danger it can cause a recall is in order. . . The failure date was Wednesday, April 9, 2014.

car   Power Train problem of Land Rover LR2

Noticed a humming sound coming from the rear of my Land Rover Lr2. So I took it into a local shop and ask them to look at it. I then took the information that they provided me and called the nearest Land Rover dealer about 100 miles away. They said that it sounded like the pinion gears, that it was a "known problem" and "very common" they explained that they have a way to fix the issue and that it would be around $1,000. 00 they also discouraged me from having my local shop work on it. So at this point I'm going to call the Land Rover dealer and setup an appointment. The local shop suggested that I fill out a complaint. Now that I look at the database it seems like a lot of people are having this same issue. It was Wed., Mar. 12, 2014 when this power train issue occurred.

car   Power Train problem of Land Rover LR4

The car was a 2013 Land Rover Lr4. Crash was involved with this problem. VIN of the vehicle was SALAK2D48D_. I parked my Lr4 in my driveway, which is on an incline. I shifted the transmission to what I believed was park, but apparently the shifter did not end up all the way in the park position. I shut off the engine using the push-button switch, opened the door and got out of the car. The car immediately began rolling toward me. The door hit me on the way down the driveway, and I was fortunately able to jump clear of the open door into the stairway. The car continued rolling down hill, and the door, still open, hit the retaining wall, folding it back over its hinges. The car continued rolling down my driveway, into busy traffic?a car nearly hit it?and across the street, where it t-boned a Honda parallel parked across the street. I believe that the car and/or its btsi system is defective because it allows you to shut off the car when it is not in park without providing an adequate warning or an interlock. I believe that it poses a danger in this condition. I have repeatedly tried to contact Land Rover by phone and email for two weeks now, without success. It was March 12, 2014 when this power train issue occurred.

car   Power Train problem of Lexus ES300

The vehicle involved was a 2002 Lexus Es300. The VIN of this Es300 is JTHBF30G42_. car   Power Train problem of Lexus Rx400h

The car was a 2006 Lexus Rx400h. Having enjoyed owning a Lexus rx300, I made a huge "investment" and purchased the 2006 Rx400h. In April of 2014, the vehicle would not start due to a failure of the hybrid system. I attempted to jump start the vehicle as suggested by the Lexus dealer. Upon further investigation I discovered the carpet inside the cabin area was soaking wet! the car had been outside in the rain with the windows, sunroof and doors closed. Also, I take the car to an automatic car wash on a regular basis. While loading the car on to the jerr-dan tow truck, a large amount of water poured out of the rear trunk area. The tow truck operator was amazed at the amount of water that was pouring onto the driveway. The vehicle was taken to the Lexus dealer. After several days, a leak in the rear hatch area was found to be the source of the water. There apparently is a metal seam where the welds do not hold up or were not welded properly. Water collected in the hybrid battery area causing over $7000 damage. Of course, luckily for Lexus, the vehicle warranty had expired. The only recourse I had was to make a claim to my insurance, which only covered the damages but not the cause. My out of pocket expenses are approximately $3000. Water leaking from the outside into the cabin of a vehicle, especially one of this price, is unacceptable. And to have water collect into the "heart" of the vehicle and render the vehicle inoperable is frightening. I could have been on an isolated road or a busy highway and the vehicle could have suddenly quit. Lexus knew about this potential problem but did not advise their customers to watch for any signs of moisture. The repair to the popped seam could have been done by any body shop or, I'm told, the use of a good quality silicone. There is a technical service bulletin from 3/10/2009 that specifically addresses this problem: TSB-l-sb0019-09 rev 1. It was Apr. 10, 2014 when this power train issue happened.

car   Power Train problem of Lincoln MKS

The vehicle having this issue was a 2010 Lincoln Mks. While driving I experienced aloud violet knock and hesitation, stall, when driving the vehicle. This occurs without warning. It feels like a sudden lost of power which last for 5-7 seconds. This knock and hesitation occurs intermittently, it's scary to drive the car like this, I fear the vehicle may completely stall in traffic and cause an accident. Note I've taken the vehicle back to the dealership however, they claim upon their diagnosis they can't find the problem. The vehicle is still under warranty. This problem occurred on Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013.

car   Power Train problem of Lincoln MKX

The vehicle involved is a 2007 Lincoln Mkx. Vehicle identification number (VIN) of the vehicle is 2LMDU88C57_. Ptu leaking with a burning smell. Seal and gasket replaced under warranty on 3/1/11 at 33,463 miles. Ptu is leaking again in 2014 at 78,000 miles and this time there is no warranty. Seeing all the ptu problems on the web with Mkx/edge vehicles from 07/08, wonder where the engineers were the day they designed this part and the replacement part and why Ford doesn't fix these 07/08 vehicles correctly or warranty this part to 100k miles. Ford/Lincoln had their chance to fix my vehicle right in 2011 and blew it - will probably take it for repairs elsewhere. Have owned Ford products for years - maybe not anymore. This power train issue occurred May. 1, 2014.

car   Power Train problem of Mazda Tribute

The car involved is a 2010 Mazda Tribute. Was driving on large blvd thru town at approx. 45+ mpg, the car all of a sudden quit accelerating, the wrench light came on, all power to car was essentially loss and it began convulsing abruptly as a I maneuvered it off the road to a safe stopping spot. I called aaa and had it towed to dealer. Dealer had the car for 3 days, could never find anything or get it to reproduce what I experienced, so I was charged the $120 diagnostic fee without it being fixed and sent home with my fingers crossed. The car behaved for awhile, but then it started doing it again on and off over the next 6 months. Because of the $120 fee for nothing I had been hesitant to go back until recently when I was on the freeway (a couple of times) and the car did the same thing! luckily I was in the slow lane and could pull over quickly, turn off the car, count to 10 and then start it up again and go. These last few times it was several times a day, so I took it back to the dealer (car is supposedly certified) as of this writing they have had the car again for 3 days, and just now, at the end of the work day have decided it is the throttle body that needs replacing. It is "conveniently" not listed in the "covered components" of the certified warranty. Its going to cost $500+ to get my car back + the cost of the rental car I've had to get because they don't have loaners, just a shuttle, which does me no good on a daily basis. This power train problem happened on Aug. 14, 2013.

car   Power Train problem of Mazda MAZDA3

The vehicle involved is a 2012 Mazda Mazda3. Vehicle was purchased brand new from classic Mazda or orlando, florida in December of 2012. All vehicle maintenance has been performed according to dealership recommendations at classic Mazda of orlando, florida. Vehicle was in for service within the previous two days and had been driving normally with no problems noted after inspection. On Saturday morning, may 17, 2014, vehicle was driven and noted no problems. After being parked for a few hours, vehicle was started, and it rolled down the driveway, only to be stuck and unable to move when in gear and releasing the clutch. I called Mazda roadside assistance who towed it to classic Mazda on 5/18/14. On 5/19/14, Mazda found that the clutch had been totally destroyed, and with only 17000 miles on vehicle. Mazda is only willing to pay for parts and leave the bigger expense of labor to the owner of approximately $600. This clutch should last longer than 17000 miles and I believe it to be defective as there are many other complaints similar to mine everywhere. I believe Mazda has designed a less than acceptable clutch to be in use on these vehicles, and should be 100% liable for repair costs. I request a formal investigation into this concern as it could cause serious injury if at highway speeds when fault occurs. This power train issue occurred Sat., May. 17, 2014.

The vehicle was a 2007 SAAB 9-3. During colder starts, the engine will take much longer than it should to start. Either it will try and crank until it does or it will crank and stall. Usually a few tries and it will clear up once the engine is warm. I think this might have to do with the intake valves being warn out prematurely. Many other SAAB owners in the same few years and mileage are having this problem. It was Saturday, March 1, 2014 when this power train issue happened.

car   Power Train problem of Saturn VUE

The car involved is a 2009 Saturn Vue. The VIN of this vehicle is 3GSCL53P49_. Car would not start, when you put the key in the ignition will not start. After several attempts you can finally get it to connect. This is an ongoing issue I have had the car in the garage several times. I have been stranded three times in the last six months. It doesn't happen all the time and never happens when the garage has the vehicle. The last time was on Saturday 5/18/2014 the only way I could get the vehicle to start was to put it in neutral and turn the steering column, then when it would go back to the straight position the vehicle would stop again. After about five times trying it this way I left the wheels turned all the way to the left and put the vehicle into gear and made a u turn and keep going to home. I am afraid to try this car for fear it will cut out and someone will run into me. This problem occurred on Fri., Sep. 13, 2013.

car   Power Train problem of Saturn VUE

I bought a 2003 Saturn Vue from auto deals located in baltimore, maryland. Approximately 3 weeks later the car begin jerking and pulling. I had my six year old daughter in the vehicle. The dealership took my vehicle and I have not seen it since 5/12/2014. I had to find my vehicle at jerry's Chevrolet who gave me an invoice for almost $7000 for the transmission having to be replaced. I had the car less than a month. I can't afford to replace this. I would like some help! I am out of my money and a vehicle. Noone is willing to speak with me. It has been a nightmare!. This issue happened on 05/07/2014.

car   Power Train problem of Subaru Impreza

The vehicle having this issue was a 2009 Subaru Impreza. The vehicle identification number (VIN) is JF1GE61609_. When attempting to fuel the vehicle (the tank was less than one-quarter full), the gas splashed back out of the vehicle on me and allover the ground. I tried several times to fuel, but the tank will not accept gas. This issue can cause injuries from the gasoline splash, and it can cause stranded drivers because the vehicle cannot be refueled. It must be investigated. There are plenty of forums online where people complain of the same issue in their 2009 Imprezas. . . There must be a known defective part, but Subaru is not recalling it? please investigate. This power train problem happened on Thursday, May. 8, 2014.

car   Power Train problem of Subaru Outback

The vehicle was a 2008 Subaru Outback. The VIN of this Outback is 4S4BP61C18_. Carpet had bad spot upon purchase, told by dealer defect and nothing could be done. That spot is now a hole in the carpet. Seat material is very cheap and low quality started to wear before 1k. That too has left a hole in the seat. At 37k passenger cv boot went due to thin rubber boot followed by driver boot at 38k. Boot rubber is extremely thin compared to other manufacturers. When they go, they go quickly without warning the smell is horrific and the sticky residue left behind under the hood visually unappealing. As to the boots, our weather rubber car mats are thicker and certainly less expensive! at 68k clutch went; power-steering pump was leaking and a/c / alternator belts were cracked. This car has never missed a maintenance and has been immaculately cared for so imagine our disappointment. The clutch resulted in the car stalling in rush hour traffic. This car did not live up to the Subaru reputation of safety and quality. I would not entertain the thought of every purchasing another Subaru. It was 09/10/07 when this power train issue occurred.

The ignition is shut off momentarily as the transmission attempts to downshift causing it to slip into neutral then engage the lower gear hard as the transmissions computer reestablishes control. This action is recorded on a video car camera operated by the ignitions on and off position. The hard shifting problem thought to be fixed by software update may be addressing the symptom not the cause. Acceleration is also affected at other times where the foot pedal is inoperable, but reestablished when shutting the ignition off and on. The drive train becomes wobbly after a short period of time at highway speeds making travel between cities unsafe. A clunking sound from the rear, as broken spring or loose bowling ball makes, is heard at times of mild acceleration at lower speeds. Perhaps a grounding strap my alleviate static buildup in the ignition system. The failure date was May 12, 2014.
