car   Speed Control Linkage problem of Acura Integra

The vehicle involved was a 1999 Acura Integra. While driving my vehicle on the freeway, a small plastic clip designed to secure an engine hose worked its way lose. The piece landed on the throttle switch while the switch was in the open position and wedged itself in a way that prevented the throttle from closing. This left the car in permanent acceleration. The only way to stop it was to drop the car into neutral and remove the key to shut off the engine. Doing this then makes the car difficult to manage because of the loss of steering and brakes. This was an extraordinarily dangerous situation. The throttle should be shrouded so that no foreign object has any chance of interfering with its ability to close properly. This problem occurred on Wednesday, Jun. 30, 2004.

car   Speed Control Linkage problem of Hyundai Tucson

2007 Hyundai Tucson with only 22,000 miles on it is now experiencing sudden unintended acceleration. Hyundai is in total denial and squirted some lubricant on a linkage and sent me on my way. After not being able to drive this vehicle due to safety concerns I demanded that the same tech come out and drive it for his self. After getting on an interstate the same issue happened to the tech and now they are stating that something is wrong just not saying what. Sporadic sudden acceleration is experienced with no warning. The gas pedal will actually fall rite from under your foot or more precisely is sucked out from under your foot. The engine tacks out at top end and if driven for a while this will slow down to normal driving conditions. Braking is impeded by some mechanism and does not stop the car and after standing literally on the break pedal I was forced to shut the car down and coast wildly into a break down lane. This issue has been experienced now for 3 months. Car has been to the dealership 3 times now for this issue. The described set of occurrences above have taken place a number of times and with varying degrees of severity. When will these car companies get the message? how many people need to be killed by these kinds of engineering flaws before real action is taken?. This issue happened on Wednesday, December 8, 2010.

car   Speed Control Linkage problem of Hyundai Sonata

The vehicle identification number (VIN) is KMHWF35H12_. Crash happened when the problem occurred. We recentlty purchased a used but showroom condition Hyundai Sonata with somewhere around 29,000 miles on it from a dealership. After about three weeks my son had to leave it in a parking lot. The throttle/cruise control cable (even tho he did not have the cruise control on) was stuck. He thought the problem was fixed so hedrove the car a few more weeks and was on his way home when the same thing happened again only this time he ran into a utility pole. The car was damaged pretty baddly but thank the lord he was not. He could have been killed. The utility company is charging us about $4000. 00 or more dollars for the work they had to do to the pole. I called Hyundai consumer affairs. The car is at a Hyundai dealership. Consumer affairs is mailing me a form to fill out. I do not know if Hyundai is going to claim responsiblity or not. I feel that this problem needs to be researched to see if there have been any other problems with the throttle/cruise control sticking making it impossible to stop or causing any other problem. I hate to see someone die from this. This speed control linkage problem happened on Jul. 27, 2004.

car   Speed Control Linkage problem of Jeep Grand Cherokee

The VIN of this vehicle was 1J4GW48S54_. I have a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee and when travelling in cruise control at 55 mph and start up a steep grade, the transmission will shift out of overdrive into 3rd gear, then immediately shift into 2nd gear. This happens everytime this situation occurs. When this shiifing occurs the engine rpm goes from about 1600 rpm to 4000 rpm. If the road were not totally dry or if you approach a curve when this happens a person could easily lose control of the vehicle. I have taken the vehicle to the dealer on 6/30/2004 and the service manager told me this is normal. The failure date was Tue., Jun. 1, 2004.

car   Speed Control Linkage problem of Land Rover Discovery

The vehicle identification number (VIN) of the car was SALTY19454_. Crash was involved with the Land Rover Discovery. My daughter's gas pedal stuck and would not release on her 2004 Land Rover Discovery. She drove into the ditch to avoid other cars. She has witnesses who actually called the dealership and told them they witnessed the event. Service center investigated, told me they had seen this before and there was no success in just decreasing and lubricating the old gas linkage only to have it happen again. They recommended I replace it and pay for it. I did under protest for my daughter since this is a "life or death" situation that should not be ours to pay for. Had the line kinked, bent or been damaged in any way to cause such a problem, I believe it would have been acceptable. However to have them say they are aware of the problem and can only fix it by putting on new gas pedal lines sound like a "huge" defect to me. I want an investigation and we have the old part. This problem occurred on Oct. 28, 2006.

car   Speed Control Linkage problem of Mazda Tribute

On Sunday 12/21/08, while driving my 2001 Mazda Tribute on local freeway at approximately 55 mph, in close to 0 degree fahrenheit weather, I experienced stuck throttle. Gas pedal and the portion of associated linkage visible from passenger compartment were not obstructed in any way. All efforts to return engine to idle speed, including rapidly depressing gas pedal to near the floor and then rapidly releasing it, were unsuccessful. Throttle was stuck at 4000 rpm. Had to put transmission into neutral and then coast to a stop on an offramp. Once stopped, I turned off and then restarted engine several times. At restart, engine would immediately race up to and stay at 4000 rpm, even though I did not even touch the gas pedal. Wound up having to get vehicle towed to a Mazda dealer repair facility, which was closed at the time due to it being Sunday. The dealership representative told me that, upon restarting the vehicle the next day, the throttle was no longer stuck. Said the linkage "probably froze up" due to the previous day's cold weather but had "thawed out". He recommended lubricating it, which I authorized. On 1/1/09, I dropped the vehicle at a different Mazda repair facility because of an unrelated problem. The dealer representative told me that, when he drove the vehicle into the garage from outside (where it had sat overnight in near zero weather), the throttle stuck. The throttle stuck a few times last winter in 10 degree or below weather but only momentarily. I noted today, according to your website, that there was a recall on 2001mazda Tributes equipped with "speed control" because of a defect that caused throttles to stick. I am not sure what "speed control" is. My Tribute, which I purchased used, does not have "cruise control. " whether it originally had "cruise control", which may have been removed by someone prior to my purchase, I do not know. The failure date was 12/21/2008.

car   Speed Control Linkage problem of Mercedes Benz CLK320

The car is a 2000 Mercedes Benz Clk320. The car had a crash. At about 2pm on the date of the incident, driver left store parking lot and had stopped car, waiting for an appropriate time to turn right into the right lane of a three lane major highway. Car accellerated out of driver's control across the three lanes of the highway, in front of and amid approaching traffic, and then onto a grassy median strip with a ravine in the center. Car entered median strip almost directly across from the point where the car had been stopped and waiting to enter the highway. As the car was crossing the highway, driver could not control the vehicle despite all possible physical force put on the brake pedal and with both hands on the steering wheel. As the car accellerated across the highway, the police report details a collision with another car. After car entered the median strip, driver tried to keep car in the median strip and was mostly able to do so. Car proceeded about 80 feet along the median strip, again with full force on the brake and both hands on the steering wheel. After this, driver was able to push gear shaft to the park position and take out keys. Safety side and front air bags did not activate. Weather was fine and there were no visability issues. Driver was wearing seatbelt and glasses. This problem occurred on Saturday, October 25, 2003.

car   Speed Control Linkage problem of Saturn SL1

The VIN of this vehicle was 1G8ZH52881_. Freezing accelerator on 2001 Saturn Sl1. Oday I experienced a frozen accelerator cable which caused the car to accelerate very rapidly. I had driven about 80 miles and stopped at a store. When I came out of the store, I started the car and backed out of the parking slot. When I then started to go forward, and pressed the accelerator, it froze up at a rather high speed. Releasing the pressure on the pedal did not cause the pedal to return to idle . The outside temperature was zero degrees. I was able to turn the key off and after working the accelerator pedal and cable for about three or four minutes (from under the hood and the driver seat-took two people) I was able to free up the cable. I would like to know if there is a recall or tech bulletin about this, and if not, suggest that one be issued immediately. It happened again a few hours later but I was prepared and tested it before I put the car in gear. The cable appears to be freezing inside the shaft. It does not necessarily do it the first time the acelerator is depressed in the cold weather. I brouhgt the car home and will not drive it again until the weather warms up. I did call Saturn customer service and they are not aware of the problem and can not do anything unless a Saturn dealer diagnoses the problem the nearest Saturn dealer to me is 75 miles and since the weather is still minus 4 degrees today, I will not drive the car to the dealer do to the problem. I spoke with a local general motors dealer and he has had other Saturns in with the problem. Suggest an alert or warning to owners and drivers be issued. car   Speed Control Linkage problem of Subaru Outback

2011 Subaru Outback. Consumer states unintended acceleration the consumer stated the sudden acceleration problems started shortly after he purchased the vehicle. On two occasions, he came close to having an accident. The consumer believed there was an issue with the pedal arrangement. He stated he realized he was crossing his right leg over his left leg to apply pressure to the brake pedal. The brake power assist amplified the applied force very well, but at times the brake pedal seemed to get too close to the floor board. He found the brake pedal was high when the engine was off and sank to a lower level when the engine was started. The level could get close to the operating plane of the accelerator pedal. On one occasion, he flipped off the cover on the brake pedal and was braking on a bare steel plate. He discovered he was using more natural ergonomic motion and got too close to the right edge of the brake pedal. The distance between the edges of the brake pedal and the accelerator pedal was about three inches. The width of the sol of his size 12 shoe was about 4 1/2 inches. The consumer believed the problem was an engineering design problem that involved the vacuum braking system, the accelerator linkage design and ergonomic. This issue happened on 11/01/12.

I own a 2005 solara sle v6 automatic: pulling into a restaurant parking space, making a right turn, the vehicle suddenly accelerated forward: jumping the curb, forward onto a muddy open space, an approx. Incline, and into a low barrier wall between the two neighboring restaurants' parking lots (with cars on the other-side of the barrier). Fortunately, no vehicles or persons were stuck!; just, the damage to my vehicle! when it accelerated, my foot was off the accelerator petal, about to brake; stood on my abs brake; and, the barrier, I believe, stopped most of the forward motion; hit hard; air bags did not deploy !!! nothing like this has ever happened to me before; not in any of my past vehicles !!! it's my understanding that Toyota is denying problems with the solara models, when they're the sporty model the the Camry !!! dealership said to contact corporate, but, this is not . . . Blame it on the driver for incorrect mats; mine are the originals hooked under the front seats !!! this is transmission control linkage to the accelerator petal !? when I backed up, off the muddy hill, I noticed the transmission was stiff/sluggish !!! 2nd topic - driver's left side leather seat panel for air bag: took it in due to panel splitting in two parallel spots (possible split leather material, rather than full hide ? too thin for side-air bag ! ) Toyota refused to fix this safety issue !!!. It was Tuesday, April 1, 2014 when this speed control linkage issue happened.

car   Speed Control Linkage problem of Toyota Tundra

The vehicle is a 2006 Toyota Tundra. Crash was involved with the Toyota Tundra. The VIN of the problem Tundra is 5TBDT44146_. Odi numbers, 10183308, 10288886, 10293097, 10293888. These are odi's that are in regards to my vehicle. I have said all along that the problem is electrical. I still maintain that. I have had the vehicle seen by the factory rep and received a letter from tms saying that everything is working as designed. They even looked at my throttle linkage. I don't have linkage. So what else have they looked at. If it worked as designed, why does it work differently than it did when new? I have suggested many times over that tms take my truck back and use it as a test vehicle. I have not had it repaired for that reason. My truck has done all sorts of weird things. That is why I feel that it would make a fantastic vehicle to use to find the problem with the electrical system. Now I hear that during the hearings that the congressman from texas told the ceo of tms to go get that vehicle and use it as a test vehicle regardless if they had to pay one hundred thousand dollars. They certainly wouldn't have to pay me that much, just make me whole. My truck is a mother load of information. Tms is really dropping the ball on this one. I want my dealer to work with me to get tms to do as they say they will do. My dealer says that their hands are tied. Well tms call japan and see if mr. T will agree with me. The truck has not been repaired and I feel that once they start taking it apart that the problem will be exposed. This is the third Toyota truck that I have had and would be pleased to have another as long as it was free of defects. The pedal they are going to use is going to give them more problems than the one that is in the truck now. If it is sticking, create a scheduled maintenance to lube it or whatever it takes. Shorter pedal means foot will slide off, probably more fatigue on the ankle. I just want the people that made promises to keep them. You can get with my dealership and possibly help come to a resolution. There is a person in england that is sharp on cruise out of control. This issue happened on 02/24/2010.

car   Speed Control Linkage problem of Volvo V70

The vehicle was a 2001 Volvo V70xc. We are having problems with our vehicle as identified in a newspaper article with our Volvo. The dealer we purchased the vehicle from originally refused to correct the problem of the loss of power, stalling and other defects with my vehicle under warranty (they claims to have been advised by Volvo that they could not fix the problem without a "reduced performance" light coming on) until I told them that if I was killed (the last time this happened, I lost power as I was entering I-95 north during rush hour and was nearly broadsided by a construction vehicle merging from the opposite direction) it would cost them a lot more than simply a repair. After threatening a lawsuit, they agreed to download some software to correct the problem. While the issue is not as prevalent as it was, we still have occasions when we get power surges, lose power and the electrical systems do not work properly in the vehicle. I do not feel safe driving this vehicle. The transmission/air flow problem is just one of many issues we have had with this vehicle - many of them safety related. We were told by the dealer that they were aware of the problem through a notice they received from Volvo - a notice was the kind that notified the dealers of the problem were not required to advise customers unless customers complained (this was the same issue with an internal engine fan which apparently can catch fire without warning - the dealers got notice about that, but the customers did not - if we complained about issues with the fan, depending on the kind of fan it was, it would be fixed under warranty - otherwise, we would be responsible for replacing the fan at the cost of over $500 - our fan, after we complained that it came on for no reason while the vehicle was parked, was finally replaced last summer by the dealer but they had to get "special permission" from Volvo to do it. Apparently, these fans can come on and cause the engine to overheat, and there have been fires because of it. This issue happened on Apr. 13, 2005.
