car   Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problem of Chevrolet Uplander

The vehicle was a 2008 Chevrolet Uplander. The vehicle identification number (VIN) of this Chevrolet Uplander is 1GNDV33188_. A short time after fuleing my gasoline tank I detected a gas odor. The odor did not go away, but got worse. I checked under my vehicle to see if there was any gasoline leaking and saw raw gasoline leaking down the side of the gas tank on the driver side. I could not determine the scource of the leak so I took my vehicle to a local repair service. The mechanic determined that the leak was coming from a plastic fuel line attacjed to the internalo fuel tank module. There was a crack in the plastic fuel line and gas would spray from this crack onto the top of the gas tank, eventually running down the side of the tank creating a very hazardous situation. I feel that fuel could have sprayed to the other side of the tank (exhaust pipe side) and could have caused a serious fire. It was Monday, November 4, 2013 when this tank filler pipe and cap issue occurred.

car   Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problem of Chevrolet Uplander

The vehicle involved is a 2008 Chevrolet Uplander. The vehicle's vehicle identification number (VIN) is 1GNDV33188_. A short time after filling my gasoline tank I began to detect the strong odor of gasoline fumes. I thought I had overfilled the tank so I ran out some gas for a few miles, but the odor of raw gasoline would not go away. I looked under the vehicle to see if there was any gasoline leaking and saw what appeared to be gasoline running down the drivers side of the gasoline tank. I could not detect the source of the leak so I took my vehicle to a local automotive repair shop. The mechanic removed the gasoline tank and discovered that the source of the leak was a crack in the plastic gasoline return line going into the internal tank module. This leak created a very hazardous situation that could have resulted in a serious fire if the raw gasoline had come into contact with the hot exhaust tail pipe or catalytic converter. The mechanic told me that this is not the first time he had repaired this type of leak. There was no physical damage that he saw that could have caused the plastic return line to leak. I feel that this is a serious flaw in design or material and should be brought to the attention of other owners of a Chevrolet Uplander Mini van. It was Nov. 4, 2013 when this tank filler pipe and cap issue happened.

This has happened 2 times, after that it would occur at every fill, it has now gotten to the point where the car stalls out between 2 and 10 times, we don't dare go on the highway for at least 1/2 hour for fear of stalling in traffic! web search indicates this is a very common defect with this model, was told repair would require replacing the gas tank and fuel canister because fill pipe is too high on factory original tank? sounds like a defective factory part that needs dealing with for safety concerns, thank you much for your attention! [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6). The failure date was Saturday, April 10, 2010.

car   Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problem of Dodge Magnum

The vehicle involved is a 2006 Dodge Magnum. After filling up at the gas station, I was attempting to get back on the freeway when the car stalled at the stop sign. I received help in pushing the car out of the busy intersection. Due to the instrument panel warning lights I checked the oil levels and if the gas cap was secured properly. Both were fine and I was able to start the car and drive to the on-ramp of the freeway when it stalled again. I was barely able to coast to the side of the busy on-ramp and was a hazard to the many semi trucks making the turn onto the freeway. After waiting for almost an hour for the car to cool I checked the oil again. It was full and fresh after being serviced recently. A chp officer spotted me on the ramp and I informed him of which panel lights lit up and the what the manual suggested. He wanted to check if I had oil pressure and suggested I attempt to turn it on. Indeed the pressure was fine but the car had a rough idle, sputtered and died again. After turning it over again there was a strong smell of fuel, I tried revving the engine. It died again. The chp officer and I agreed it was a fuel problem and informed me it would be cheaper if I called a tow truck than if he did and said he would be back to check on me. I was able to get the car running long enough to back off the on-ramp and into a parking lot. It died two more times. After getting it started again I revved the engine until it idled properly and went home. While researching the problem on lxforums. Com I became aware of a faulty gas tank issue which was the cause. While I'm grateful I was driving slowly when this happened it was still a safety hazard to myself and others to have a car die so suddenly. Apparently, Chrysler is aware of this problem and I will be submitting this issue to them as well. On lxforums. Com a surprising number of vehicles have this same problem. Thank you for your time. This tank filler pipe and cap problem happened on Monday, Oct. 7, 2013.

car   Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problem of Ford Fusion

The car is a 2010 Ford Fusion. Driving to work approx 40 mph, car began to sputter like it was running out of gas, but had 3/4 tank. Wrench light lit up and lost acceleration immediately in the middle of an intersection. Was able to coast to the side of the road. Put car in neutral and tried to rev the engine - thinking maybe dirt in fuel line or fuel filter. No luck. The car did not stall, so I put in back in gear and was able to limp at negligible speed thanks to a slight downgrade to a parking lot nearby. After shutting off and restarting the car it seemed to run normally but I didn't want to risk driving it and stalling somewhere more dangerous. Had it towed to the dealership. Awaiting their diagnostics. Sounds an awful lot like the other documented throttle body issues. It was November 4, 2013 when this tank filler pipe and cap issue happened.

car   Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problem of GMC Envoy

The car was a 2004 GMC Envoy. I have had an overwhelming smell of gasoline for weeks and my speedometer was only working intermittently. I took my car to an auto store and had them put it on the computer the code read small evap leak so I bought a new gas cap to attempt to resolve the issue. That didn't work so I took my car to the mechanic for it to be checked out as my check engine light came back on. On the first visit he scanned the computer and codes read po 442 & 445 ? small/large emission leak, he checked all components and could find nothing. I took my car back as the speedometer issue was getting worse and the gas smell was still present the same code came up for the emission/evap leak and still nothing for the speedometer issue. He then did a smoke test and found that there was a crack in the filler neck of the plastic gas tank that cannot be repaired and must be replaced. He replaced the speedometer sender which still did not fix the issue. After much research I have found both of these issues to be a serious problem with other Envoy owners. I would like to know why there has not been a recall on these parts and why GMC is leaving the cost of repairs up to the owners. These are manufactureâ??s defects. This is supposed to be a reputable company. I have called into GMC support and they as well as staff at a GMC dealership stated that this was the same issue as was stated in a recall but my VIN number wasn't included so no financial help was given. $1,215. 29 later I have a new gas tank and my speedometer still does not work. This is ridiculous. . . Take ownership for your product malfunctions!!! how many complaints does there need to be before a recall is issued on these vehicle issues?. It was Mar. 11, 2013 when this tank filler pipe and cap issue occurred.

It has been getting worse ever since. Checked out recalls and saw this one, but never received a recall notice. Called local dealer and told me that it was not covered. Something is wrong here. This recall (listed below) is exactly what is the issue with my GMC van. It should be included in this recall but for some reason is not. I am going to fix it myself (at my own expense), because it is a safety issue and I am not going to risk the safety of my family. Fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly:filler pipe and cap recall number: 12v388000 recall date: 08/08/2012 problem summary: general motors (gm) is recalling certain model year 2003-2004 Chevrolet express and GMC Savana vehicles, equipped with a left side cargo door, and originally sold or currently registered in connecticut, delaware, illinois, indiana, iowa, maine, maryland, massachusetts, michigan, minnesota, missouri, new hampshire, new jersey, new york, ohio, pennsylvania, rhode island, vermont, west virginia, wisconsin, and the district of columbia. Since I purchased my vehicle I have been back and forth to the dealer at least a half dozen times for the "tighten fuel cap" light. Each time I was told nothing was wrong. I switched dealerships and they finally replaced the fuel cap, neck and another part that I cannot recall now. That fixed the problem for a short time, now I have another diagnostic code, 2 actually, p0171 and p0174. The message center for the fuel cap and these codes all said it is related to my emission system. I see one other person filed a complaint on here relative to the gas cap light coming on. I am coming close to the end of my warranty and asked Acura to extend it but was told to call back when it closer to expiring. This is not boosting my confidence right now. If not anticipating it fuel will spray back at you an run back out filler tube in fact it is hard not to have some fuel spill during the fill. I saw TSB on the issue and contacted dealer where I purchased this car used ,a Ford dealer, but they were unable to get information on the problem and said that I would probably have to pay to fix the problem anyway and would have to go to a Mazda dealership to get it done. I contacted Mazda USA by phone and they said it was not covered by warranty or recall. They refused to pay for any repair. With persistence they said if I took it to the nearest Mazda dealership and paid for a diagnostic and results were consistent with the TSB that they might help with the repair under a "goodwill" program. I requested TSB fix information so I could consider what was needed to fix so I could decide my most economical route to get it fixed but they refused. They said that information would only be given to Mazda mechanics due to "liability" concerns. This problem continues and it now occurs at every fuel fill, the colder it is the worse it is but it occurs even when it is above freezing. I have a coworker with a 2006 Tribute with the same problem. No serious event to us yet but my son borrowed the car once and I was unable to warn him ahead and he was doused in gas. Any static spark or other ignition source and there will be a tragedy. Remember this is occurring at a gas pump at a gas station with fuel tank door and cap open with gas pump running. It is at it worse at the most likely time for a static electric spark ( dry and cold). Mazda showed no interest or concern to deal with this. They know of the defect and first TSB on it was issued in 2005. Help!. This tank filler pipe and cap problem happened on October 10, 2009.

Scion xa 2006 with just 46000 (mostly highway!) miles did not pass emissions test due to diagnostic codes: p2401, p043e, po43f, p2419, p2402 indicating 'evaporation leak/emission problems. Toyota customer relations stated the repair was not under warranty and refused to help me with the cost of repair - see case #: 1310120509. The dealer charged me $588. 39 (after a discount of $95. 00 diagnostic fee) to install 'charcoal canister, fuel filler neck, fuel tank filler holder, & charcoal filter sub-assy. ' the fact that it is standard for a car with less than 50,000 miles to fail an emissions test should not be considered in compliance with epa standards. Toyota is charging consumers the cost of repairing a defective evaporation system in order to comply with epa standards therefore the NHTSA should issue a recall of the defective product(s) - see TSB #: eg047-06. car   Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problem of Toyota Prius

The vehicle involved was a 2008 Toyota Prius. I normally get about 450 miles out of one 11. 9 gallon tank. Recently, I discovered my fuel gage light going off at 300 miles. When I filled up my tank it only took 7 gallons, leaving 5 gallons that should have been in the tank. After filling it up, fuel gage light went off just below 300 miles. When I took my vehicle in for an oil change I asked about it thinking there was something wrong with my fuel sensor. I was advised by the clerk that it was the bladder, and to just keep it full-that¿s all. He gave other advise like make sure the tire pressure on my tires were good (they were rotated and checked a week prior to this), and to check my air filter. Now I am confused, and do not know how much fuel is actually in my tank. I have had my vehicle for 3 1/2 years and never had a problem till now. It was Saturday, Nov. 26, 2011 when this tank filler pipe and cap issue occurred.

car   Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problem of Volkswagen Passat

The vehicle involved is a 2010 Volkswagen Passat. The VIN of this vehicle was WVWJM7AN8A_. I wanted to replace the fuel cap for my 2010 vw Passat. I ordered part number 3c0201550n which belongs to my vehicle. The fuel cap does not fit. I looked at the cap that is installed on the vehicle and got part number 1j0-201-553 off the fuel cap that is on the car. I contacted a vw dealership parts department and they told me that this part 1j0-201-553 is for a vw golf or a vw jetta and is for a diesel engine car. I do not have a diesel engine I have a gasoline engine. I called vw customer service about this problem because I am worried that this could be a safety issue and they didn't understand what I was telling them. I am worried that the fuel tank and or the pipe that leads to the fuel tank is not properly installed or the incorrect one for the vehicle and Volkswagen does not seem to be worried about the safety of me or others that might have the same issue. This tank filler pipe and cap issue occurred Wed., Apr. 25, 2012.

car   Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problem of Volkswagen Jetta

The vehicle is a 2011 Volkswagen Jetta. Bought my Jetta tdi new 4 months ago. Filled up with diesel on a Monday morning and had driven approximately 70 miles before I had this problem. Was driving home Tuesday (at 60mph) when suddenly lost acceleration and glow plug light started flashing. Was able to limp to a vw dealership about 1 mile back but car would not accelerate above 35mph. The next day the dealership gave the diagnosis of water in the diesel and told me "everything that the diesel had touched" would have to be replaced (fuel tank, lines, filter, etc. ) . They said the vw warranty would pay for it this one time but if it happened again I would be responsible for the over $5000 cost. When I asked how I could avoid this in the future I was told I just needed to purchase my diesel from a "reputable" place. (seriously!!! do they think I am buying "bubba's home brewed biodiesel" on the side of the road or something???) I reported to the texas dept of agriculture that the vw dealership was claiming the diesel I had purchased on Monday had water in it. The tda promptly came out and investigated the station where I purchase fuel and reported to me that they found nothing wrong with the diesel. This sounds to me like a major oversight on the part of vw if there is no way to avoid such a potentially dangerous and costly problem. I traded a much nicer and more comfortable SUV for this Jetta in an attempt to save $$$ on fuel. I think I've made a huge mistake. It was Nov. 1, 2011 when this tank filler pipe and cap issue happened.

car   Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problem of Volvo V70

The VIN of this vehicle is YV1SW61T84_. My 2004 Volvo V70 wagon spewed and spit gas when being filled with gasoline. When the automatic shut off from the gas pump engaged, gas from the tank and the filler line gushed and poured out of the tank. This happened on several occasions including the very first time I filled the vehicle with gas. It also occurred when I attempted to fill the gas tank slowly so that pressure would not eject gasoline from the tank. The car was brought to the dealer where it was purchased (smith CO. Motors - charleston, wv) for the problem to be fixed on March 31, 2004. After inspecting valves in the gas tank and fuel filler tube, the dealer contacted me to tell me no problem had been found. I asked the dealer service manager if the tank had been filled with gas to make sure gasoline did not continue to gush from the tank. The dealer then filled the tank and called to me to confirm that the problem had not been fixed. The car was then at the dealer and out of service until April 8, 2004, when a Volvo representative discovered that the car had a manufacturing defect. I was told the defect was that a valve had not been installed on the car at the factory. On April 12, 2004 I returned home from work and pulled into my driveway. I left the car running in my driveway. After 1 to 2 minutes inside, I notice a strong smell of gasoline. The car had stopped running and was freely spilling gallons of gasoline into my driveway. The dealer discovered a new gas tank had not been properly installed by the service technician. I am interested in NHTSA investigating if the repeated failures of my fuel system are related. I am further interested in NHTSA determining if other 2004 Volvos with similar fuel system components could have also left the factory without a completely assembled fuel system. I encountered a very serious safety problem that could have resulted in a catastrophic accident. It was Mar. 31, 2004 when this tank filler pipe and cap issue happened.

car   Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problem of BMW 740

The car is a 1997 BMW 740. The vehicle identification number (VIN) of the car was WBAGF8326V_. Hi, I am not sure if this is a safety defect or not. I had a sound like an expanding and contracting of metal in the back underneath of car. It sounded like a cookie sheet when it is first heating up in the oven and it expands and contracts. The dealer couldn't find anything when I brought it in but said that they were going to call BMW technical support because they had a theory that a spider was clogging up the fuel line and that this had happened once before to their knowledge and resulted in the gas tank collapsing. I brought car in again and they said they removed a spider and put in a new pipe/line. The sound I had heard before was gone. Some people have told me, however, that the whole system is a closed system and that this couldn't have happened. Is it possible? is problem fixed?.

car   Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problem of Cadillac XLR

The car was a 2004 Cadillac Xlr. The VIN of this vehicle is 1G6YV34A54_. A pronounced odor of gasoline and appearance of an error message stating "check gas cap" led me to bring the vehicle, a 2004 Cadillac Xlr, to the dealer for service. The dealer determined that a crossover pipe between the two gasoline tanks was leaking. Replacement of the crossover pipe (at a cost of $2295. 14) did not cure the problem. When the same error message recurred the following day, I returned the vehicle to the dealer. I was informed that the feed pipe leading from the gas cap to the gasoline tank was leaking at its inlet. Replacement of this pipe silenced the alarm and error message. Notably, the dealer's mechanics informed me that gasoline had been leaking onto the transmission casing and onto the exhaust pipe, creating a very serious fire hazard. Indeed, the mechanics were too frightened to start the engine after I brought the vehicle in for service the on August 3, 2009. Inasmuch as the chassis of this vehicle is shared with model year 2005 and later corvettes, it appears this problem may be widespread. My vehicle has never been in any accident nor has it ever been damaged in any way, which suggest to me that this is a design defect -- a conclusion endorsed by the dealers mechanics. And the potential for fire and explosion makes this a problem that warrants your attention. This issue happened on Mon., Aug. 3, 2009.
