car   Transmission Failure problem of Acura TL

The vehicle is a 2002 Acura Tl. I bought my Acura February 2011. Since then I have had 2 transmission failures and have spent well over $1400. 00 each time I got it fixed by the certified mechanic. I still have my receipts and only got a 1 year warranty first time and a 3 month warranty this past time . It seems like I am paying more for the transmission alone than the value of the car. The engine is great but I am afraid the transmission is going to fail again and I cannot afford to buy another car or fix the problem if it does fail again. This is a concern for me because the first failure was very scary for me and my family. We were driving up a steep hill to overview a city we visited and the transmission shut down and we were inclined. I did not know how to approach this situation with 3 minor children and as a single mother. It was very overwhelming and I was petrified. Then come to find out not so long later after getting the transmission fixed, the transmission went out again. I am very concerned and have blogged and read alot of complaints about this car. You can youtube google all kinds of info on these Acuras with constant transmission problems. I think the manufacturer intended on this malfunction for profit as a automechanic. It is very unfair, unsafe, unjust with them selling cars that do not last 5000 miles and then have the transmission fail over and over. I am the owner of the 2002 Acura. Please keep me informed about this car and if there is any way someone can help me get warranty for free because it is really unfair. Thank you for your time and concern. God bless what you guys and girls are doing. The failure date was Sep. 16, 2013.

They told me that it was too late in the day to look at the vehicle and drove me to a car rental place where I rented a car at my own cost. The next morning they called and informed me that the vehicle needed a new transmission and the cost would be approximately $6000 for them to replace it. car   Transmission Failure problem of Land Rover Range Rover

The next morning it started fine, we backed out of the driveway and when we shifted to drive a transmission failsafe came on and we could not even move forward. We had to back own the street to park and then call a tow truck. When it got to the dealership the transmission had to be completely replaced. I asked the dealership if there was a recall and was told no. I went online and found there was one that would cause loss of drive if it wasn't fixed. I then called Land Rover and even though they were trying to be helpful, informing there was a recall and that our vehicle had already been repaired, they were completely unable to help me out at all. I think when you buy a vehicle like this the transmission should not go out at 56,000 miles. Instead I have a $6,000 repair bill. It was Jan. 2, 2010 when this transmission failure issue happened.

When the wave breaks, actual pieces of the wave spring make it through Mitsubishi's also faulty transmission filter and lodge themselves in the pump gear, causing the hear to actually break. After the pump gear has been broken inside the transmission, all forward and reverse gears immediately stop functioning and in most instances the vehicle shuts off. car   Transmission Failure problem of Saturn VUE

The car is a 2008 Saturn Vue. On April 12, 2014 I was driving on a major boulevard towards interstate 5 when the transmission shifted itself into neutral and revved the engine to an extremely high rpm. It was hovering quite close to the red danger zone on the gauge. As it was doing this I lost forward power and was moving forward on momentum only. It then felt like it dropped in and out of gear several times in quick succession. I was close to a parking lot so I hit the brakes lightly to decrease my speed and managed to turn the car into the parking lot and into a parking space just as the transmission appeared to re-engage. I immediately turned the car off and called emergency roadside service to tow the car to the dealer. The dealer was able to drive the car forward into a service bay but advised me that reverse was completely gone. Although I did not crash or sustain an injury, it was only because I got lucky and had a safe place to turn into. If this had happened 5 minutes later on the freeway, I would have likely died as that section of interstate 5 has construction work and no shoulder, so I would have been stranded and blocking traffic on a freeway with other vehicles and big rigs traveling between 55 and 80 miles per hour. It would have taken a miracle for no one to hit me in that situation. The vehicle is a 2008 with just over 50k miles on it - way too soon for such a major transmission failure. This transmission failure problem happened on Apr. 12, 2014.

car   Transmission Failure problem of Subaru Outback

The vehicle having this issue was a 2013 Subaru Outback. While towing a camper well within the towing capacity of the vehicle, the vehicle would not accelerate beyond 60 miles an hour. We (myself, my wife, and 6 dogs) were south of pueblo, colorado going up that very long include towards trinidad. The vehicle's engine would not rev as if it's transmission was failing, but it would absolutely not accellarate beyond 60. We pulled over and contacted the nearest Subaru dealership (back in pueblo) and went back to pueblo and had them look it over. They couldnt find anything wrong and their test did not show any problems. They were only able to speculate that it may be a failsafe feature that prevents the engine from becoming damaged when it begins to overheat. We had driven from north of dallas to west of fort collins, with stops, without problems, but this day the temperature was 50 degrees and probably the warmest it had been our entire trip. We had previously stopped for a few hours in garden of the gods, so it had only been back on the road for an hour when this occured. After the dealership looked at it, we hitched it back up and continued on our trip. They instructed us to just drive slower when going up hills and mountains. We experienced problems again when we got to trinidad, but drove through it since the exits are rather sharp and black ice was a concern. Once we stopped driving up inclines the vehicle drove like normal. After we stopped towing the camper the vehicle stopped having issues. This problem occurred on Fri., Dec. 27, 2013.

The vehicle involved is a 2008 Suzuki Forenza. Crash was involved with this problem. VIN of the vehicle was KL5JD56Z08_. I purchased this car new in 2/ 2009. I have had to have it into the shop for repairs of check engine light and transmission, ultimately leading to a a transmission replacement on 7/17/12. It has been in the shop 14 times from 7/24/10 until the present most of which included the check engine light/and or the transmission failure, still today my car is in the shop because it won't reverse. The accident that occurred on 12/24/2012 could have possibly been avoided had I been able to reverse because as the car approached me I attempted to reverse when it failed. It was 12/24/2012 when this transmission failure issue happened.

car   Transmission Failure problem of Toyota Highlander Hybrid

The car involved was a 2005 Toyota Highlander Hybrid. My transmission has failed on my Toyota 2005 highlander after 96,000 miles. I have read other consumer complaints and I am convinced there is a serious problem with the2005 Toyota Highlander Hybrid transmission. I spoke to Toyota and they advised me to take my car to the dealership. I was told that the transmission had to be replaced and that it would cost $5060,00 to replace. Toyota offered me . 10% off the cost of repairs. I was shocked as I have only owned the vehicle for 15 months and have a 4 year note. I am very fortunate that I did not have a horrible accident as I was coming down a very steep incline on the highway when the transmission began to fail. I am forced to repair the vehicle as I am not in the position to purchase another vehicle. I would like for the NHTSA to look into this issue further. The failure date was Feb. 3, 2014.

car   Transmission Failure problem of Volkswagen Jetta

The vehicle involved was a 2006 Volkswagen Jetta. Our Jetta experienced a "false neutral" problem back in December, 2013. (95,000 miles) I did some research and found that it could be due to a low voltage condition. I checked the electrical system and found the alternator to be faulty. I replaced it and kept driving the car. Everything seemed fine until mid January, 2014 when we experienced another fn event. We were able to switch the car off and then back on and the condition went away. I called our local vw dealer and scheduled an appointment for a diagnostic. The results of this test came back and they said we needed a new mechatronics unit (this controls the transmission) at a cost of $2300. 00 I am familiar with these cars and also familiar with the fact that vw has already investigated this issue in later year cars. This investigation (NHTSA action# pe09035) resulted in a recall campaign (NHTSA# 09v333000) where vw replaced defective mechatronics units and extended the warranty on the affected units to 10yrs/100,000 miles. Less than 24 hours after receiving this diagnosis, the transmission completely locked up while driving down the road, luckily it was at an intersection and the speed was less than 15mph. I had the car towed back to the vw dealer, the transmission must now be replaced ($6,000. 00) I content that this is the same or nearly the same issue addressed in the previous campaign and that vw did not find the root cause of the mechatronics and subsequent transmission failure. A new investigation needs to be opened to address this problem, it is a safety issue which has already been addressed for some of their vehicles. Vw needs to be made to address it for all dsg equipped vehicles, especially ones manufactured before the previously investigated lot. I contacted vwoa and even though my vehicle is still within the mileage range of the warranty extension they will not offer any assistance in the repairs. This issue happened on 12/16/2013.

car   Transmission Failure problem of Audi A4

The car is a 2009 Audi A4. VIN of the vehicle was WAUSF78K99_. This Audi was a lemon from the start and botched repairs at the dealer have only made it worse. One the 2nd day we owned the car the oil light came on and we had to return it to the dealer for more oil. Over the next 2 years the car burned an excessive amount of oil starting at 1 qrt every 2500 miles and deteriorating to 1 qrt every 800 miles. All along the dealer told us this was "normal". In may 2011, dealer told us that Audi had initiated a testing program and if the car failed they would do something. In June 2011, the car failed test and the dealer kept the car for 3+ weeks conducting major engine surgery. 6000 miles later we took the car in for routine maintenance and they said they wanted to do routine warranty work. In the course of this work, they destroyed the timing chain and pistons of the car. 1 week later the transmission failed. In talking to Audi technicians at other dealers (off the record) they say that the oil problem is a design problem and that the fixes are simply bandaids. Appears that the 2012 model has been redesigned to fix the engine flaw. The net effect is that the car has visited the Audi dealer on at least a monthly basis since we bought it and has spend more than 8 weeks in major "warranty related" engine repairs. To top it off, Audi has complimented this "worst in class" product experience with a "worst in class" customer service experience as Audi America 1-800 people have been consistently either robotic or rude in talking with us about this issue. Most recently, they made a lame offer to reimburse us for towing expenses and extend the warranty on this dubious car for another 12 months. Amazingly, they refuse to pu t the offer in writing until after acceptance. Presumably so that they can avoid legal issues. Please help. I am sure I'm not the only one suffering this. This transmission failure issue occurred Jun. 30, 2009.

car   Transmission Failure problem of BMW 530

The VIN of the problem 530 is WBANA73594_. I purchased a 2004 BMW 530i certified pre-owned with 29,000 miles on it. It came with a automatic tiptronic transmission. I drove it for approximately 10,000 miles and the transmission started acting up. I noticed when I used the sport mode and down shifted into first while coming to a stop the car would jerk or slam into 1st gear. I took it to the dealer (lauderdale BMW of pembroke pines) but they said they could not find anything wrong. I drove for another 50 miles or so and the car didn't want to shift and it gave an error on the main screen that the transmission had a fault drive moderately. It also stated to have the vehicle checked at the dealer. So I took it in again and again they said they could not find anything wrong. I was getting annoyed. I drove the car for another 30 miles and the fault came back but this time it the car would not shift at all and I couldn't drive over 35 mph. I took it back to the dealer and they said I needed a new transmission. I was shocked because the car was fairly new. They replaced the transmission with a brand new factory one and it was under warranty. Fast forward to today the same senario as above happened all over again, I had about 85,000 miles on the new transmission and I noticed the same exact symptoms. I was able to reset the car after each error until last week. The transmission finally failed and went into the fail safe mode and you can't drive over 35 mph. The dealer stated they needed to replace it again. I am now out of warranty and the cost will be around $6,000 to replace. I feel these transmissions fail because they are never serviced at 50,000 like all other transmissions. BMW claims that the fluid inside is a life time fluid that never needs changing. This transmission failure issue occurred 01/13/10.

car   Transmission Failure problem of Buick Enclave

The car involved is a 2008 Buick Enclave. The VIN of this vehicle is 5GAEV23728_. While accelerating from a stop through an intersection, the transmission failed and the vehicle coasted to a stop blocking traffic. After turning the key off and then starting the car, my wife was able to get the car to move at a crawl 15ft at a time. After doing this several times she was able to park the car safely off of the road. We had the vehicle towed to the gm dealership and they diagnosed the problem as a r, 3,5 wave plate failure. The dealership has recommended a new transmission at a cost of $4,400. After some research I have found this to be a common problem with the 6t75 transmission across the entire gm line of vehicles manufactured in late 2007. There is a service bulletin (09-07-30-012b) that addresses this, but no recalls yet. This issue happened on Mon., Mar. 3, 2014.

The vehicle having this issue was a 2008 Buick Enclave. I was driving home from work and slowed down to avoid an accident in front of me. When I accelerated, the car would not go faster than 40 mph. I pulled over to check vehicle and everything seemed fine. I restarted car and could not go faster than 20 mph. I went to local gm dealer and was told the transmission had failed. Reverse, 3rd and 5th gears were gone. I limped the vehicle home and am now looking at $3-5000 worth of repairs on a high end, well maintained vehicle with only 112,000 miles. I am very upset with customer service at general motors and with the quality of this overpriced lemon!. This problem occurred on December 20, 2013.

car   Transmission Failure problem of Jaguar XF

The VIN of the problem Xf is SAJWA06B29_. On the night of July 2nd. 2011, I stopped my 2009 Jaguar Xf in a parking lot. I was unable to turn the gear dial selector from s (sports) and noticed a warning which said gearbox fault. I turned off the engine and applied the parking brake. I was unable to restart the car as the transmission was still engaged. I was unable to use the internet on my cell phone but called a friend who googled the problem and told me to wait a while. I did this and was able to operate the gear selector dial and continue the 30 miles to my home. On parking at my home the same thing happened and I was unable to disengage the transmission selector dial. On exiting the car a warning sign indicated that the transmission was still engaged. I turned off the engine and waited and was again able to disengage the transmission. I believe this is a very serious safety issue and could have significant consequences if the transmission got stuck in reverse when in a busy parking lot or on a busy road. I have had other problems related to power drainage on this vehicle which rendered it unable to be opened or start. I no longer trust this car until the item is fixed and since this is a July 4th weekend my alternate transportation options are limited. This transmission failure is serious in my opinion. This problem occurred on Saturday, July 2, 2011.
