Transmission Noise problem is a common vehicle problem that happens to most car brands and models. The following is a sample list of Transmission Noise problems reported in most popular vehicles.

car   Transmission Noise problem of Chevrolet Suburban

Vehicle identification number (VIN) of the vehicle is 3GNFK16398_. 2008 Chevrolet Suburban. Consumer writes in regards to the disappointment in the manufacturer due to numerous vehicle repairs. The consumer stated the vehicle would run rough, the check engine light illuminated, the service stabilitrak and traction control lights illuminated when some of the cylinders shut down, the lifters were not properly lubricated, causing them to fail. The engine consumed large amounts of oil. There were noises coming from the oil pan and transmission area, 3 of the 4 door locks actuators were replaced, the rear liftgate broke for the 4th time, the right retractable mirror was inoperable, the cruise control worked about 505 of the time, which was probably tied the throttle positioning sensor going bad as well. Also, the vehicle had significant electrical problem, where certain lights would illuminate on the dashboard, there was an audible clicking noise, that sounded like a relay firing very quickly. This transmission noise issue occurred May. 1, 2014.

car   Transmission Noise problem of Chevrolet Blazer

The car is a 2004 Chevrolet Blazer. The vehicle identification number (VIN) is 1GNCS13X34_. Got into the vehicle in the morning and when I placed it into reverse I heard a loud shattering noise and the car would not back up. I had it towed to the transmission shop and they reported that the "sun" gear had shattered with a repair cost of 2300. 00. They also told me that this is a very common problem with gm transmissions due to a weak gear from the manufacturer. After researching it on line I am finding many other people with the same problem. The gm customer rep was very short and stated that the car was out of warranty and I have no claim. If this was a known ongoing problem gm could have recalled these vehicles and saved a lot of grief for their customers. I feel that I should be reimbursed some of the expense of this known defect. This transmission noise issue occurred Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013.

A few days later the car didn't feel right and started making a loud knocking noise, took it to the mechanic and found out that tensioner belt became loose causing damage to the car. I had to get a new alternator, tensioner & pull, and transmission flushed/serviced as well as the power steering. Not very happy with this 2008 Sebring!!!!!. car   Transmission Noise problem of Ford Freestyle

Last weekend the transmission went out in our 2005 Ford Freestyle. The car had been driving fine with no indication that there was a problem. We were traveling at about 45 mph when we suddenly heard a loud clunking noise. Immediately after the clunking noise we heard the sound of metal clanging around under the car and hitting the road. . . The front wheels began skidding and it felt as if the back of the car lifted of the road. At this point I felt as if I had no control over the vehicle. We were fortunate that no one was driving behind us, as it is very likely we would have been rear ended. I pulled the car to the side of the road and the oil light came on. I immediately turned the car off, got out and looked underneath and saw oil running out of the car onto the road. We then noticed the trail of mangled metal in the road. At this point I knew we were in big trouble. We had the car towed to a local garage and were told that the transmission went out. Garage called on Monday only to tell us that a used transmission for this car is very hard to find and that they were unable to find one locally. . . And further explained that replacing with a new transmission would cost $6000-$7000, maybe more since this transmission had been completely destroyed and we couldn't turn it in for a core. Something in the transmission actually came apart causing the transmission to bind and literally tear itself apart. We bought this car used for $6,500 and have only owned it for 11 months. I am seeing that this is a pretty common problem with this car. Not only can I not afford this repair, there is no way I am going to spend that kind of money on a transmission that is likely to fail just as this one did. So I am without a car with 4 children trying to figure out how I'm going to afford another one. This is obviously a defect with this car and Ford should have done something to fix this. It was 04/19/14 when this transmission noise issue occurred.

car   Transmission Noise problem of GMC Acadia

Vehicle identification number (VIN) of the vehicle is 1GKER23707_. 2007 GMC Acadia. . . It has 62000 miles on it & just in March we had a problem with a metal on metal scraping sound(& you could feel it when you braked) like it needed new brakes but brake pads were like new. And the service airbag light is on, then service traction control message, & service stabilitrack message came on too & it started jerking when you hit the brakes like the abs brakes were kicking in. So we took it to robinson's & they turned the rotars & rotated my tires & when I got it back it rode like a dune buggy. Took it back & said it needed new struts cause "something" stayed in a locked position or another. So then we got it back & the scrubbing noise/feeling came back with the brakes again so then they finally just put new brakes on it & so far so good $1000 later! now, this morning I was in a drive thru & it felt like my car was in neutral when I tryed to go forward & I had to look to see if I moved the gears & then I noticed the orange engine light was on. It barely wanted to go & the rpms just kept getting higher & higher & it was struggling to move so I pulled over & had onstar run diagnostics & codes po700 & po716 power train detected malfunction transmissions & transmission not performing as expected!! I noticed after she ran the test my car sounded like it changed back to normal while running so I cut it off & back on & it drove ok back home but now we have to have it looked at & I'm just sick to my stomach over this! it looks like it's gonna be a broken wave plate & ending up resulting in a new transmission I can not afford!!! I know it's 2007 but with such low mileage & in great condition I wouldn't think it should have all these problems especially with the transmission!! I have read so many reports on the same issues which are beyond ridiculous considering how much you pay for these vehicles!!!! this is totally unsafe & needs a recall ASAP!!!. It was Tue., Apr. 29, 2014 when this transmission noise issue occurred.

car   Transmission Noise problem of GMC Acadia

On 1/25/13 our 2007 GMC Acadia was towed to the show for what was described as a timing chain premature ware and was covered under a recall. The mileage on that date was 52,788. It is our understanding that the motor and transmission had to be removed. On may 18th 2013 I was driving and the car made a loud noise and decellerated down to 25 mph with a high rpm. At that point I pulled over. I noticed the car had no reverse. I brought the car to the local gm dealer. Today they called and said the transmission is shot. Current mileage 55,308. Waiting to hear back on exact issue. After reading online this is a know design flaw and has been since corrected. I should not have to pay for gm's design flaws. Also this is a major safety issue when your vehicle slows to a maximum of 25mph on a main road or highway. The failure date was May. 18, 2013.

car   Transmission Noise problem of Acura MDX

Tl- the vehicle involved is a 2002 Acura Mdx. The contact stated that while driving 20 mph, the transmission began to make noises while going from first to second gear. The manufacture was notified. The private mechanic stated that the vehicle's transmission needed to be replaced. The failure mileage was 160,000 and the current mileage was 170,000. It was Friday, February 21, 2014 when this transmission noise issue occurred.

car   Transmission Noise problem of Acura MDX

The car was a 2006 Acura Mdx. On January 14, 2014 my daughter took our 2006 Mdx to the dealer for mechanical evaluation. The car has been hesitating while driving, trying to stop the car while driving. The diagnose came back with the following: transmission needs to be replaced and engine mounts have to be replaced as well for the total of around $7,200. In October 2008 (mileage 55k) the original transmission has been replaced with a re-manufactured part. December 2009 original symptoms (whining noise, shutter at 40-50 mph) have reoccurred and have been reported to dealer's mechanics. They could not see any problems. December 2010 whining noise started coming back again. Dealer's mechanics could not find anything wrong. Now we are faced with a transmission that is malfunctioning plus engine mounts have to be replaced. In speaking with Acura's customer care I was informed that the transmission replaced in 2008 was not an authentic Acura part. I kept insisting on more in depth explanation but did not receive any. It is my understanding that improperly working transmission causes damage to engine mounts. It seems Acura dealer's mechanics have somewhathow missed it. Acura is not willing to take responsibility for any of their omissions. Now the car is no longer under warranty. All of described instances are a huge safety hazard. Putting in non-authentic parts under the label of warranty is a fraudulent step. All services have been performed at jerry damson Honda dealership in huntsville, alabama. I would like a formal investigation. In addition I feel that dealership's mechanics should go through additional training to avoid future misdiagnoses and a reduce danger to consumers. It was Jan. 14, 2014 when this transmission noise issue happened.

car   Transmission Noise problem of Honda Odyssey

The vehicle was a 2014 Honda Odyssey. Transmission makes loud clanking noise and shudders violently at 10-20 mph during acceleration. Acceleration throughout range is exceptionally sluggish and will not engage "passing gear" at highway speeds, making the vehicle dangerous to drive at low and higher speeds. Problem stops when vehicle is stopped and re-started, but may reappear. Dealer has not been able to duplicate problem and states Honda has had no other complaints of same. car   Transmission Noise problem of Honda Civic

The vehicle was a 2013 Honda Civic. No power. No acceleration. I am fortunate the car behind me was cautious enough to slow down. I had no power, no get-up, no nothing and I was flooring it to get out of a potential accident. The vehicle has made odd noises since the beginning. Brakes make an odd noise. There is a crackling, tinkling, very odd noise that comes from underneath the car since the beginning of ownership and I guess that's how the car is made (?). I do not know if a car is supposed to act like this, due to have owning manual transmissions the majority of my driving career. No umph on this brand-new car has led me to send in this complaint in case others are experiencing similarities. Odd noise with brakes, odd, very odd noise that tinkers under the car and no acceleration. I use the gasoline outlined/ preferred by the Honda Civic owner's manual. The failure date was 03/12/14.

car   Transmission Noise problem of Jeep Patriot

The vehicle involved is a 2008 Jeep Patriot fwd. Started hearing a "whining" noise in the front end/engine area of the vehicle and after about 10-15 more minutes of driving, the vehicle lost all power and came to a stop. After sitting for a while, it would start back up and run just long enough to get it to a technicians shop. Technician ran some tests and found out that the cvt transmission was failing because there were metallic parts in the transmission fluid. After doing research, I found out that this is, and has been a recurring problem with this vehicle/powertrain and yet Jeep does nothing about this. I am out $4000. 00 because I have to replace a transmission at 80k miles!! rediculous!! transmissions should last way longer than that and due to the fact that there are thousands of others who have had the same experience with these cvt transmissions, this was not a "fluke" occurance. This transmission noise problem happened on May. 15, 2014.

car   Transmission Noise problem of Jeep Wrangler

The vehicle was a 2013 Jeep Wrangler. This is complaint related to safety recall notice n28/NHTSA 13v-234 (transmission oil cooler tube). Last year I had received a safety recall notice n28/NHTSA 13v-234 from Chrysler. As instructed in recall notice I scheduled an appointment with dealer- magnussens Dodge Chrysler Jeep, located at 1901 grass valley hwy, auburn, CA 95603, ph (530)885-2900. On 02/05/2014, I brought my vehicle in to get safety recall repairs done. Mr. Brian evans #1028, who is a service advisor with magnussen, stated they did not have a required part. I found this situation rather strange. Two weeks before my appointment I was reassured that part would be there. Since I was already there with my vehicle I brought to his attention unrelated to safety recall notice mechanical issue (possible squeaking belt noise). After inspection of my 2013 Jeep with 10k on odometer, they told me that it needs a new water pump? they replaced, free of charge, a water pump (invoice 189828). They hold my Jeep in their shop for two days. Communications with service advisor/department were horrible. I have to spend significant amount of time just to locate and contact their service manager in order to know when my vehicle will be ready for pick up. When I finally picked my Jeep up on 02/07/2014 mr. Evans told me again that required transmission oil cooler tube would be there soon. He promised this replacement part ¿¿will be reserved for my vehicle¿ and he will contact me as soon as he gets it¿. Here we are in the beginning of month may¿. I am still waiting to hear from magnussen¿¿s Dodge Chrysler Jeep. All my attempts to contact said service advisor went nowhere. Moreover, thanks to magnussens I am driving this unsafe Jeep every day. As of today no part replacement mandated by Chrysler recall was done. Now what?. The failure date was February 5, 2014.

car   Transmission Noise problem of Kia Motor Sorento

The car was a 2011 Kia Motor Sorento. The vehicle abruptly jerks or changes gears when reducing speed. When taking the foot slowly off the gas pedal the vehicle jumps causing the vehicle to almost stop. The transmission also makes a very loud noise. Sometimes it just turns off by itself. Car is only 2 years and a half old and it's already having signs of breaking down and having problems that could cause accidents. Kia says they don't know what the problem is. I have taken the car to the dealer twice. The first time they cleaned the throttle body, but it didn't fix the problem. I have taken the car to the dealer again, still waiting for solution. Researching the internet, I found there are many similar complaints where kia just won't do anything. Actually I found this web page as a recommendation from one of the forums. Hope you can help. It was March 3, 2014 when this transmission noise issue happened.

car   Transmission Noise problem of Land Rover Freelander

The vehicle identification number (VIN) of this Land Rover Freelander is SALNM22242_. My 2002 Land Rover Freelander left my family and I stranded on the highway twice and both events were very costly. I own the vehicle 16 months. The first break down occurred in hartford, al when the vehicle was towed back to the nearest dealer jax, FL 300 plus miles. A battery cable was replaced. The vehicle reached 48,000 miles when I made a formal complaint of engine noise and requested the dealership (mantheny Jaguar and Land Rover) perform the appropriate services to include noting any problems considering the warranty expired at 50000 mil. After 50000 the vehicle literally began to break down mechanically. One noted cost of several was the replacement of the transmission at a cost of $4800. 00 to repair. I believe any vehicle that has a major break down of this nature, the amercian consumers have a right to know. The free lander is costly and performs poorly stacked up against american made products. The failure date was September 18, 2004.

car   Transmission Noise problem of Lexus RX

The vehicle having this issue was a 2000 Lexus Rx. Transmission started making a whining sound at certain speeds about a year and a half earlier. Toyota dealer confirmed odd noise from transmission, but said there was nothing they could do apart from removing transmission. I was in a nearby state when the tranny finally went out - 1st gear still works and sometimes 2nd gear, but 3rd, 4th and reverse all went out when I was accelerating onto the highway - a loud bang and then it revved up like it was in neutral even though it was in drive. I'm concerned this was a design flaw, but Lexus does not agree and has offered no compensation up to this point. They said if I want to take it further I need the Toyota dealer to confirm the tranny is out. I said that would not be difficult and am in the process of doing that now. I am curious how some people have gotten Lexus to pay a portion of their bill. I ended up renting a uhaul and trailer to get it home. This issue happened on Thursday, September 22, 2011.

car   Transmission Noise problem of Mercury Mariner

The vehicle involved was a 2008 Mercury Mariner. A couple days ago I started my car as usual before going to work to let it warm due to the weather. As I started backing out of my drive I realized my steering wheel isn't moving like it's supposed to. I stopped and turned the car off and then back on, then it was fine. As I'm driving and getting ready to switch lanes on the highway it does it again so I pull on the shoulder and get out the car to check under the hood, a man pulls over to help me seeing as I'm a woman on the side of the road and in my military uniform. He says it could be because of the weather but it should be fine. Now after 2 or 3 days the steering wheel shakes and vibrates and a rattling noise occurs at low speed and certain positions when the wheel is turned, or even at a standstill position. It has recurred several times since the first time and always when the car starts. It can be stopped by turning off the ignition and restarting the car. Also a wrench shows up in the message center, as I read my manual come to find out that's for the transmission. I've read a lot of the comments and complaints and have to wonder, will it take a death because of this for Ford to realize we're not making this up and it's not due to poor or lack of maintenance. This issue happened on 01/29/2014.

Bought this car brand new only had it a little over a month, service engine light comes on,dealer told me it was misfiring and fixed. 2 weeks later service engine light comes on again, called and made appt. Next day I am driving down the highway and hear a loud grinding noise, transmission blew. And to top it off manufacture won't cover warranty because evidentially I was racing and doing burnouts, which wasn't the case at all. This car definitely has defects. Even if I was beating it and doing what I was accused of I highly doubt the trans would of blew that fast. I was never told why the service engine light came on the 2nd time but was told that the trans wouldn't make it come on which is untrue. This issue happened on Saturday, February 18, 2012.

car   Transmission Noise problem of Nissan Altima

The car was a 2008 Nissan Altima. The VIN of this vehicle was 1N4AL21E88_. My cvt transmission went out with 126k miles. I was never notified of any recalls regarding the transmission and there have been a few. I started hearing the infamous "whining noise" about 6 months ago which would have been around 100k miles. Had I been notified of the recalls I would have taken the whining a little more serious and researched it. Well, too late but after the fact I found many youtube videos and hundreds of complaints from people with the exact same issue. If you hear this whining noise, it's your transmission. Nissan knows they put out a garbage transmission which is why they doubled the warranty on it to 10 years or 120k miles. Conveniently, mine did not go out until 126k. I bought this car three years ago with 17k miles. Yes, I drive a lot but it's for work and it's primarily highway mileage. I wouldn't have ever expected the transmission to go out in a car this new. I have learned my lesson. I will never buy another piece of jap crap from Nissan as I am now dumping 4k to get this repaired. I checked with Nissanusa and they denied any responsibility nor did they offer any financial assistance because I am 6k over their extended (doubled) warranty. When my car broke down I called my mechanic, who is ase certified, and super trustworthy. He came and towed it, ran diagnostics on it and determined it was the transmission. I called Nissanusa and was advised to have it towed to an authorized dealer because they would not offer assistance until an authorized dealer diagnosed it. I did just that, paid the dealer $150 to tell me what I already knew (bad transmission), only to have Nissanusa deny me assistance after the dealer confirmed it was the transmission. Then I had to pay to have it towed back to my mechanic as the dealer's quote was outrageous. I will never buy a Nissan again and I hope you won't either!. This transmission noise problem happened on Thu., Apr. 10, 2014.

car   Transmission Noise problem of Suzuki Verona

The vehicle involved was a 2006 Suzuki Verona. So far, windshield wiper arm came loose and flopped around while driving in severe storm. Transmission makes a loud clunk when re accelerating at 5 and 20 mph. Windshield wiper arm was tightened, no prob. Since. Transmission still clunks and have had in to dealer 4 times already. They have replaced a control arm and a ball joint. Then had to take back to have steering wheel realigned due to their neglect. After that steering wheel made a clicking noise for about a week. Dealership claims they are unable to find the source of the clunk or to even re create it. It happens for me daily. Next car completely shut off and steering wheel locked up at night while I was driving through a parking garage. Unable to steer car. Today, brakes acted like they weren't going to stop the car, sounded and felt like a spring that is being depressed and not able to compensate for the load. My main complaint, concern is that car will shut off in traffic and I will not be able to steer and will cause an accident. Also, that the clunking in transmission and is a design defect. This problem occurred on 04/21/2008.

The day following the repair the "check engine" warning light came on again while driving and remained lit. We immediately returned to the dealer. car   Transmission Noise problem of BMW X3

Over a year ago I began hearing loud noises underneath my 2007 BMW X3. I have had it serviced four times for the following: loud popping from underneath especially with slow driving (5mph ), problems with jerking with acceleration, & a significant rattling and or shaking from under the car between 35-45 mph. The first two times it was taken to the dealership they claimed to hear nothing. The 3rd time they told me the tires were to blame. Wherein they further told me that if it was transmission issues ( I told them each time it was taken in we thought it was a faulty transmission) then they would not be responsible because the tires were causing an issue with the transfer casing. The fourth time was the same as before with still no resolution. This problem occurred on September 15, 2009.

After attempting to manually turn the steering wheel for twenty minutes the vehicle resumed normal operations on its own. The vehicle was taken to the service dealer who was unable to duplicate the problem. The problem continued to occur intermittently while turning to the left or right. The vehicle was returned to the dealer who determined the power steering hoses were reversed when the vehicle was originally manufactured. The hoses were switched, but this did not remedy the problem. The steering column continued to lock intermittently. In addition to the ongoing steering column problem the vehicle had several other problems as well. The vehicle's engine suddenly stalled without any prior warning while traveling 70 mph. The vehicle was maneuvered safely to the side of the road and was easily restarted after a 30 minute period. The vehicle was taken to a service dealer where it was determined the throttle control had caused the gas supply to shut off to the engine. The throttle was replaced and this remedied the problem. Later, the transmission made a noise and the rear end felt loose while traveling 60 mph. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was determined there were loose nuts on the wheel. All lug nuts were tightened on all four wheels. The tightening of the nuts appeared to remedy both the transmission noise and the loose feeling in the rear of the vehicle. The contact traded the vehicle due to the dealers inability to remedy the ongoing steering problem. Updated 3/9/2006 -. It was 01/20/06 when this transmission noise issue happened.
