car   Transmission Shudder problem of Chrysler Town & Country

The car was a 2011 Chrysler town and country. When backing up an slightly inclined driveway my new 2011 Chrysler town and country (1500 miles) started shuddering like the transmission was failing. In order to back up I had to accelerate beyond what was safe for the tight area I was in. I road tested it on a steep incline and was not able to back up with out a lot of loud noise and shuddering. I took it to my dealer and they agreed that it shuddered when backing up. The dealer tried a new one on the lot and it did the same thing. The dealer contacted Chrysler, who said that their is nothing they could do, because it was "characteristic of this vehicle" I have this in writing from my dealer. I am now stuck with a $40,000 vehicle that can not be used safely at slower speeds in situations involving inclines. This transmission shudder problem happened on July 15, 2011.

car   Transmission Shudder problem of Dodge Grand Caravan

The car was a 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan. The transmission started slamming into gear when starting the vehicle from a stop (both forward and reverse). According to the technician at the Dodge dealership, there was a significant amount of metal shavings in the transmission oil pan indicating the transmission was grinding itself apart. Two repair options were given - replace the transmission entirely or have it rebuilt at the dealership. Since there was the possibility of more significant damage internally, we opted to have the transmission replaced to ensure safe and reliable operation in the future. The vehicle has less than 50k miles, has not been driven roughly, and is not used for towing or hauling heavy loads. Essentially, there is no reason the transmission should have self-destructed on this vehicle. The failure date was August 17, 2012.

car   Transmission Shudder problem of Dodge Journey

I bought my new Dodge Journey on the 16th of July 2012. I live approximately 40 miles from the dealership were I bought my Journey. Most of my driving is highway so I didn't notice the issue right away. The first time I came to a stop with my new vehicle the brakes shuddered like they were grabbing then letting go and grabbing again, really fast. I returned to the dealership 4 different times for this and a transmission shudder which they say Chrysler has no fix. Is this something you have seen from Journeys before? thanks for your time. It was Thu., Jul. 19, 2012 when this transmission shudder issue happened.

car   Transmission Shudder problem of Ford Focus

The car involved is a 2013 Ford Focus. Vehicle's powershift transmission grinds when shifting at lower speeds. Transmission also surges +/- 200 to 300 rpms during perfectly steady accelerator position. Vehicle has attempted to stall numerous times in both drive and reverse. Vehicle also exhibits unpredictable power response (ie very little power when accelerator applied or way too much power when accelerator hardly pressed), resulting in numerous incidents of near collision. Vehicle also shudders when accelerating from a stop. Took vehicle to dealership and was turned away and told all characteristics were "normal". Vehicle is ,in my opinion, very unsafe and will not be driven other than out of necessity until it is either recalled, fixed, or bought back. It was Oct. 30, 2013 when this transmission shudder issue happened.

The transmission had a bad shudder at times, and sometimes the vehicle would stall where there was no engagement in the transmission. The dealer realized there was a problem and installed a kit in the transmission, which only seemed to fix the problem for a short time. It also created a leak in the transmission as a seal wasn't properly installed. A Honda representative informed the consumer the shudder and stalled were normal. However, the dealer rode with the consumer, and stated perhaps, the transmission needed to be replaced. After getting no satisfaction from anyone, the consumer traded the vehicle on February 10, 2014. This transmission shudder issue occurred 04/01/2014.

car   Transmission Shudder problem of Hyundai Genesis

While driving my 2010 Hyundai Genesis coupe 3. 8l track model, I experience severe problems with the transmission. When shifting from 1st gear to 2nd gear whenever the temperature is below 30 degrees fahrenheit the transmission grinds going into gear. Hyundai USA had a TSB about it, and the transmission fluid was changed under warranty. A week later the problem is still occurring. Hyundai has not been helpful in fixing the problem whatsoever since. When it is very cold, the transmission will not allow me to shift into second gear at all, it'll grind and make noise and block me from shifting. When this happened, I had to quickly depress the clutch and let the car roll back down to a stop. There was a lot of traffic this day and I was almost involved in a collision because of this problem. When approaching highway speeds and shifting into 5th gear, the transmission grinds again. This is usually around 50mph and at around 2600-3000rpms. I have to force the shifter into the 5th gear slot. Should the transmission block me from shifting into 5th, as it does sometimes from 1st-2nd gear, this will certainly result in an accident. Again, Hyundai motor USA is not being helpful at resolving this issue. Since the transmission fluid change, Hyundai will not approve any other warranty related work. It was 01/20/2012 when this transmission shudder issue occurred.

car   Transmission Shudder problem of Hyundai XG300

The vehicle having this issue was a 2001 Hyundai Xg300. The vehicle's vehicle identification number (VIN) is KMHFU45D71_. I have a Hyundai 2001 Xg300. Since my purchase in 2001 up until present at various and unpredictable times, when I accelerate the transmission stutters/ shudders causing a noticeable delay in acceleration. This condition is at all speeds but notable between 35-43 mph 55-65 mph. When I'm trying to pass another vehicle or if I would accelerate to move out-of another vehicles way I would be bogged down with a stutter/shudder from the transmission which may cause an unsafe condition. I've been to the dealership and they have been very helpful and up-dated the transmission computer but the problem did not get any better or worse. It appears Hyundai is aware of the problem because they have a service bulletin on the problem. My concern is it may be a safety problem. It was Mon., Jan. 7, 2002 when this transmission shudder issue happened.

car   Transmission Shudder problem of Lexus RX300

The car was a 2000 Lexus Rx300. Rx300 failed to go into reverse from park in October 2007. Took to Toyota dealer insofar as no local Lexus dealer in bend, oregon. Flushed the transmission fluid. Problem returned 4 months later at 2,000 miles into the new atf, with occasional failure in drive gear. 4/9/08 vehicle was moving in drive from home garage when transmission went bump/thump twice. 50 yards further forward, the transmission began a grinding noise. Pulled to side of road and vehicle would not go into reverse, but drive forward was okay. Returned to vehicle in 2 hrs and restarted the engine. No reverse gear when shifter was in reverse. Neutral would allow freewheel. Tried to turn 180 and return to home garage. Vehicle was now perpendicular to both lanes of traffic. Tried to engage neutral to freewheel in reverse. Vehicle seemed to be in gear or park when in neutral on the shifter. Drove forward one foot and tried neutral, got a sound like something coming unstuck and becoming synchronized. Neutral now allowed freewheel. Reverse gear now worked and I drove the vehicle the 50 yards home and backed it using reverse gear into the garage. 68,745 total miles on 2000 Rx300. Lexus says vehicle out of the 6 year/70,000 drive train warranty. Lexus says transmission has failed. This issue happened on 04/09/2008.

car   Transmission Shudder problem of Lexus RX

The vehicle having this issue was a 1999 Lexus Rx. My 1999 Rx300 awd (u140f) transmission gave 2 shudders while driving at 40 mph and then quit pulling except for 1 blk or so after restarting the engine. Took it to transmission specialist. He said planetary gears wiped out. Obtained new ones and repaired ok. 1 month later I parked and when restarted, it would not go into reverse or neutral. Had to drag out of space. Fwd ok. Drove 200 miles back to transmission shop. Planetaries again. Replaced. Ok 1 wk. Replaced whole transmission with one from highlander. Still shifts occasionally poor at 10-30 mph 2-3 shift shudder. Seems it has a maf sensor error now that may have been causing the shudder / hard shifts/failure. Car has 140 k miles. I think Toyota is hiding this simple failure causing major ($8k) failures. It was Wednesday, May 10, 2006 when this transmission shudder issue occurred.

August 2011, the transmission started to violently jerk and act as if it were in neutral. When gradually applying the breaks, the car would begin to shudder. This would happen only if the engine was warm. By March 2012, the shuddering transmission and jerk was constant. I took it in to be looked at in April of 2012. The alternator was replaced, due to what we thought was a bad battery. The mechanic believed this caused the transmission to jerk. The problem was not solved. June 2012 the transmission was replaced by a Ford dealership for 5,000. July 2012 the car went into fail engine safe mode, the codes pointing to the throttle body. A mechanic cleaned the throttle body saying it might solve the problem. 2 days later the car went into fail engine safe mode again with the same codes with an estimate of $900. The car is a 2013 Nissan Pathfinder. While driving at a slower speed on the parking lots, around my neighborhood streets and on turns when the vehicle speed in less than 25 mph and when the rpm is between 600 and 1200, the vehicle slows down, shudders and shakes as if the transmission was going out. This happens for 4-5 seconds. I have seen this happen more often when I slow down on the parking lots or on the neighborhood streets. At that time the vehicle acts as if the it is having issue shifting down and just shakes/shudders. I have taken the vehicle to a Nissan dealer multiple times but still the problem has not been corrected. The first time I took it, the dealership told me that there was a bulletin out from Nissan and they knew what to fix and they claimed they fixed it but the issue resurfaced after few hours. The second time I took the vehicle to the dealership, they told me they could not reproduce the issue! Nissan needs to carefully investigate and fix this serious safety issue. After coming to a complete stop, upon re-acceleration, it would shudder when I hit 20 mph. It felt like the vehicle was fighting against me to speed up. I took it back to the dealership and after looking at it they are putting a whole new transmission in it. After reading several reviews online (edmonds, kbb, etc), this transmission shuddering at 20 mph is a frightfully common problem. car   Transmission Shudder problem of Saturn VUE

My 2004 Saturn Vue awd, equipped with a 5-speed automatic transmission (engine/transmission supplied to gm by Honda) has 44,550 original miles on the odometer when I recently experienced a transmission vibration or shaking motion (judder or shudder) while driving at speeds between 20 and 45 mph. Gm has issued customer satisfaction program recall 10285 - v2386 in February 2001 for this exact same problem but it only covers 2005, 2006 and 2007 Vues. The recall reprograms the powertrain control module to correct the problem. The exact same engine/transmission is used in the 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007 Vues yet gm has chosen to ignore 2004 Vue owners with the problem. I have written to gm's customer & relationship services but their only reply is "your VIN is not covered". Someone needs to force gm to acknowledge the 2004 Saturn Vue with the Honda supplied engine/auto transmission has this problem and make them reprogram the 2004 powertrain control module as they have done with the other model years. It was Friday, March 4, 2011 when this transmission shudder issue happened.

car   Transmission Shudder problem of Subaru Tribeca

The vehicle is a 2009 Subaru b9 Tribeca. When accelerating moderately, the drivetrain/transmission shudders. The vehicle hesitates for a brief period of time and then begins to accelerate. This usually occurs between 20-40 mph, especially when moving in stop and go traffic. Dealer has not been able to duplicate the condition and no "error codes" are showing in the computer. My wife does not feel confident driving the vehicle any longer as it makes it dangerous to pull into oncoming traffic. Apparently we are not the only people to experience this, but Subaru does not appear to be willing to rectify this condition. Owners of 2008 and 2009 Tribeca's frequently complain about this issue, but "nothing is wrong" when the vehicles are looked at by Subaru technicians. I wonder is Subaru is having their dealers cover up this issue. It was 10/24/2011 when this transmission shudder issue happened.

car   Transmission Shudder problem of Subaru Outback

The vehicle was a 2007 Subaru Outback. Very intermittent vibration from the transmission or drive-train that started about six weeks ago, culminating with the car shaking violently and the drive-train suddenly locking up all four wheels without warning while driving normally. Of course, vehicle control is impossible with all four wheels locked. Very fortunately, there were no vehicles following or the consequences could have been fatal at highway speeds. I"m having the car towed to our local dealer on Thursday morning. The failure date was Wednesday, August 5, 2009.

car   Transmission Shudder problem of Toyota Tacoma

The car was a 2010 Toyota Tacoma. Bought my 2010 Tacoma used. Did not observe any issues during long test drive. Very next day began to notice auto transmission not finding correct gear after slowing then making a turn; does not happen when truck is brought completely to rest with pause before the turns. I also notice transmission shudder at times when slowing in straightline; feels same as clutch slip / stall with manual trans if gear too high for speed. And my transmission downshifts too deep when I brake medium hard going downhill. I have begun to manually shift during turns without stops. Had dealer inspect transmission fluid & system at first oil change and discussed observations with service tech. Was told mine is fine, operating normally, & that these transmissions are hyper-active. Beginning to think my Toyota selection was a mistake. Does anyone make a trouble-free vehicle these days?. It was Tue., Jun. 1, 2010 when this transmission shudder issue occurred.

car   Transmission Shudder problem of Toyota Tundra

The car involved was a 2002 Toyota Tundra. While driving on the freeway my truck made a bad sound from the transmission a gear grind clunk noise. I pulled off the freeway ASAP and put it in park. There was no fluid draining or any thing. When I went to put it in drive it was hard to go into gear. But it drove ok so I went to my appointment less than a mile away. From there my wife picked me up and we did some christmas stuff and got back to the car later than expected and I had to drive it home (aprox 5-7 miles). At first it was ok then clunk grind jump neutral in a bad spot on the freeway. I was able to get it about another mile to safety it jumped again and no gears. I had to push it out of harms way and jacked up my back. I was trying to stay off the operating table for my back now if im on my feet more than couple of hours I am bed ridden from days to weeks. At the beginning of the day perfect vehicle with 34000 miles now needing a $4500 transmission. I checked with some shops and a couple of dealers and they all said the same thing broken main shaft, factory defect weak main shaft. Toyota would not pay for it. 2002 vehicle. I notified Toyota the vehicle was in storage in California and would be started from time to time to keep my warranty as I am handicapped and could not get back to it. Now they had no info on this and I had to pay to fix a 34k mile Toyota for a defect and now get a back operation. This issue happened on Dec. 20, 2008.

car   Transmission Shudder problem of Volkswagen Routan

The vehicle is a 2011 Volkswagen Routan. My sister bought a vw Routan se 2011 six months ago. Recently, we have experienced a "safety problem" with the vehicle especially when we are trying park it on a (steep downhill) between two cars in san francisco. When the transmission is put in reverse and the driver is backing up to park between the two cars on a steep downhill, the vw Routan moves forward approximately one foot prior to backing up and we feel abnormal vibrations in the transmission/engine. Plus, if you do not press any gas when the transmission is put in reverse, the car acts as if the transmission is put in neutral showing no resistance. This is a safety issue, I might hit the car in front of me so I brought it up to the attention of northern CA vw case manager as well I took it two different vw dealerships (vw oakland and vw serramonte). Both dealerships mechanics have admitted there is something wrong. However, the management of vw is claiming that it is normal since the other new 2011 vw Routan are performing the same under identical circumstances. The vw case manager stated that in the eyes of vw it is ok for the Mini van to move about one foot forward when it's backing up on a steep downhill; it is how it was desinged by the engineers. This absolutely an irresponsible way to treat your customer who bought a 2011 vehicle to have a peace of mind at least for the first couple of months of ownership. It puts the life of our citizens in danger. I have no control over the car when it's backing up on a steep downhill. There is no way I can stop it from moving forward about one foot before it starts backing up. Let's say someone was crossing the road at the same time I was backing up, who will be held responsible if he/she got hurt. As a government committee, I would like you to investigate this and take action. This issue happened on Thursday, November 10, 2011.

car   Transmission Shudder problem of Volvo XC90

Vehicle identification number (VIN): YV1CZ91H83_. We bought our 2003 Volvo Xc90 t6 in July of 2005 with 40,000 miles from a dealer who stated it was a local trade in. I met the original owner of the car after we purchased it and was told they got "rid of it" because of so many trips to the dealers service department. We have taken the car to the same Volvo dealer who did normal maintenance at first, but then things started to go downhill from there. We had a "check engine" light that would not go off after numerous computer downloads. We were told the computer had to reset itself for this to go off. It is still on as of today. We replaced both turbos on this model in June of '08 for over $6,000. 00 and only 70,000 miles. The car sat at the dealers service department for over a month and they had to bring in a Volvo expert for this repair. In sept. Of this year they are both needing to be replaced again. I cannot believe that I could only get 25,000 miles from this repair. If I had known then, I would have traded it immediately. Also in '08 the "service transmission urgent" light came on. There was clunking and grinding in the transmission so we towed it to the dealer (again). The problem was a yaw sensor failure with was replaced at the dealer. This is where I believe our new problem started. We now have the light on again. It slips in 1st gear and sometimes gets caught in 3rd and won't come out. This, as we have now found out is a very common problem with this model. I have found over 1,800 Xc90 owners with the same problem. We are looking at over $11,000. 00 for both of these repairs and I honestly cannot see spending this on a car that is worth only $14,000. 00!!!!! I need help with this problem from Volvo north America or from the dealer. I have friends with Volvos with over 300,000 miles. I wanted to be able to drive mine that long, but I guess my slogan is "fix for life" not "Volvo for life" . It was Sun., Sep. 20, 2009 when this transmission shudder issue happened.

car   Transmission Shudder problem of Audi S4

The vehicle having this issue was a 2000 Audi S4. The VIN of this vehicle was WAUDD68D7Y_. Experienced a grinding noise and vibration in the transmission while accelerating onto highway from a stop, shifting from 1st to 2nd gear at approx. 4500 rpm. After this incident, the transmisison grinded when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear all the time above 3500 rpm. I contacted the dealer and had to wait a week for them to see my car. They kept the car for a day to "diagnose the problem. " they told me that 2nd gear was "shot" due to "shifting at high rpms" or from "hard shifting" and that the transmission needed to be rebuilt. I said that this was ridiculous and that I wanted a new transmission. They said that Audi would only authorize them to rebuild my unit. They also informed me that if this happened again, I would have to pay for the repairs myself and that I would no longer be covered under warranty. It disturbs me how a car manufacturer's transmission could not hold up to the power output of the engine and that the car should not be shifted "high" or "hard". When the repairs are completed, must I then baby this performance automobile and fear shifting above 3500 rpm (half of the engine's redline rpm)? also, I cannot understand how my warranty will not cover a component if it breaks twice. To me, that sounds like a defect. I am now waiting for the dealer to contact me when the necessary parts arrive. This problem occurred on Mar. 18, 2000.
