Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem is a common vehicle problem that happens to most car brands and models. The following is a sample list of Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problems reported in most popular vehicles.

car   Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of Chevrolet Malibu

The vehicle was a 2009 Chevrolet Malibu. Ongoing issue that dealership cannot diagnose or repair -- transmission will slip out of gear, resulting in a loss of power; car behaves as if it is in neutral. If pressure is removed from accelerator, transmission will re-engage. Since incident is intermittent and unpredictable, dealer has not been able to replicate. I have asked them multiple times if other 2009 Malibu have the same problem and have been told no. Given recent events I am skeptical now of that answer. Because power to the vehicle is lost, this can be very dangerous and I would like to know if other gms with the six-speed transmission (new on the 2009 model, I believe) are experiencing this problem. This issue happened on Monday, March 1, 2010.

car   Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of Chevrolet Equinox

The vehicle is a 2010 Chevrolet Equinox. The vehicle identification number (VIN) is 2CNALDEW9A_. Over the course of the past two years, the transmission steadily shifted harder and harder, sometime the gears wouldn't shift up, or down without a 3~5 second delay at speeds of 30mph or 50mph. Around Mar 18 2014, we were going up a hill going roughly 50mph all of a sudden, there was an external electrical noise, and seconds after, the car wouldn't shift into gear. After getting off the freeway, the car would not shift out of 1st gear, and was in limp mode. We took the car to the dealer the day after and was told the 3-5-reverse wave plate or also commonly referred to as clutch plate shattered and the pieces got into the gears and torn up all the gears with it. The car was still just right under the power train warranty so the dealer replaced the wave plate and the broken gears. But make no mistake, this is a common problem. Gm claimed they "supposedly" improved this old problem post 2009 models, however, countless 2010+ chevy Equinoxes, traverse, and GMC terrain, and acadia are still encountering failing transmission because of this very specific 3-5-reverse wave plate issue. Just google for "chevy Equinox transmission wave plate", or "gm 3 5 reverse wave plate" you'll see countless GMC, chevy 2010+ owners still encountering pre-mature transmission failures due to this very exact issue. If you take all the average transmission failures from all the 2010+ vehicles, you'll see that the transmission would fail on average anywhere between 60,000~150,000. This is not acceptable, and it should be listed as an official recall!!. This transmission slip out of gear issue occurred Tuesday, Mar. 18, 2014.

car   Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of Hyundai Sonata

The vehicle was a 2012 Hyundai Sonata. On 09/22/13, I left for a 75 mile trip. When I first started my car that morning, I noticed it was moving sluggishly, but thought it was due to our overnight chilly temperatures. I drove the short distance to the interstate. As I attempted to merge onto the interstate, I had the most frightening experience of my life. I pressed on the accelerator to prepare to merge and discovered that I had practically no acceleration! my car got to between 5000 and 6000 rpms before it shifted out of first gear! at that point, I was going approximately 45 mph while trying to merge onto an interstate, in front of a semi that would not get over for me to merge. I literally had my accelerator pedal pushed to the floor, as the car again hit between 5000 and 6000 rpms to shift into second gear! I was able to eventually get my car to 65 and turn on the cruise control . I double checked to make sure I was in drive (rather than neutral or manual--no dashboard lights on). On occasion during that drive, I turned off the cruise and hit the accelerator to see if what I had experienced was a fluke¿it was not. My accelerator was literally mashed to the floor as my car¿s speed slowly lurched higher, while my rpms raised above 5000 before shifting to the next gear. Once I returned home, I turned off my car for a few minutes, before restarting the vehicle to test it. The transmission problem was gone (although I question whether my turbo is still working effectively, as it seems less responsive). Today, I took my car to the local car dealership to address the recent Sonata recall, and I also requested they examine my transmission, describing the above incident to them. I noted that other drivers mentioned that a ¿waste gate issue appeared to be causing the shifting problems. They could find no problems and suggested I shifted into manual accidentally. It was Sep. 22, 2013 when this transmission slip out of gear issue occurred.

car   Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of Hyundai Genesis

Vehicle identification number (VIN) of the vehicle is KMHHU6KH7A_. I have a 2010 Hyundai Genesis 3. 8 coupe 6-speed automatic with paddle and sport shift. I have had an ongoing issue with the vehicle for several months now not shifting properly. Sometimes it wont shift out of 1st gear and when it does it will unknowingly downshift and get stuck in a gear. Since the issue began, I have received several speeding tickets and had near death experiences due to the shifting. Sometimes it will increase and decrease speeds and the rpms will raise sometimes up to 6000 before it will shift or I have to place the car in park and turn off the ignition for the shifting to begin working properly again. I have to ask myself everyday if I am willing to risk my life for the issue because I have had so many near death experiences with this. It definitely needs to be looked into!!!. It was Wednesday, June 12, 2013 when this transmission slip out of gear issue happened.

car   Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of Jeep Wrangler

The vehicle involved is a 2009 Jeep Wrangler 4-dr 4x4 rhd. VIN of the vehicle was 1J4GZ39199_. First a whining sound began in the case and got worse over the next 10,000 miles, then at 90,000 it wouldnt shift out of 4 wheel drive for a varying amount of time maybe 15 seconds one time or 10 minutes other times etc. When it did shift out of 4 wheel it would bang so loud and hard it felt like you ran over a large object, it actually threw you up in the air a bit . When you got stuck in snow and needed 4 wheel it only would make a ratcheting sound. Jeep refused to fix it under warranty because its a rhd postal Jeep. It cost $1744. 00 to fix it with a rebuilt case that can only be purchased from Jeep. It is dangerous because when it shifted it went out of control and when you were stuck in snow you didnt know when it would shift into or out of 4 wheel. It was Monday, December 3, 2012 when this transmission slip out of gear issue occurred.

This problem has continued intermittantly and now the vehicle sometimes drops completely out of gear when slowing down or turning. The vehicle then dropped out of gear and I had no acceleration, as it was suddenly like I was in neutral. High rpm. . . . But no movement. car   Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of Land Rover Freelander

The car is a 2002 Land Rover Freelander. Less than 50,000 miles landrover Freelander gives f4 fault, will not shift out of 2nd gear. Has overheating problem, sunroof died, dealer said needs new transmission, completely new wiring harness, new ecu, new door to fix window failure, and!!!!!!!!!!!! a new engine to fix the overheating problem that they tell me is a common thing, and they haven't seen any Freelander's get over 65,000 miles without an engine and transmission replacement. Luxury vehicle my ass. Dealership gave me an 18,000 dollar repair estimate. I guess luxury means it costs a lot to drive not you have the luxury of driving without worrying about sitting on the side of the road in a 30,000 dollar piece of crap. Read some forums online. All of these problems are happening everyday, and nothing is being done to make this luxury vehicle company make a better vehicle. I mean damn I should have bought a Honda. . . . . . At least they have heated seats to keep my ass warm when I wait on the side of the road. The failure date was Thursday, Dec. 20, 2007.

car   Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of Lexus RX300

The vehicle involved was a 2001 Lexus Rx300. The VIN of the problem Rx300 is JTJHF10UX1_. While entering a freeway onramp the transmission slipped out of gear. I tried to accelerate but there was no power the engine just revved. The transmission reingaged as I was pulling to the shoulder so I continued my trip home. Later on the same drive home, at an interchange between freeways it happened again but this time the transmission didn't re-engage and there was almost a deadly multiple car accident. It was towed to a transmission specialist who had to replace the transmission. Soon after replacement I was on another trip and I attempted to accelerate to pass a car, the transmission slipped and I barely avoided being in a deadly auto accident on the freeway with a big rig. On this same trip I almost lost my life three times due to this identical occurrence. It is absolutely unacceptable and unforgivable that Toyota hasn't taken responsibility for this manufacturing error and announced a complete recall and replacement of all transmissions for this year, make and model of vehicle. If, I keep this car and I have an accident due to their manufacturing negligence action may be taken. This transmission slip out of gear problem happened on Tuesday, October 11, 2011.

car   Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of Lexus RX300

2002 Lexus Rx300 automatic transmission issue. Have been reading on the internet as well as this site (16 total complaints about transmission/power train for this particular vehicle). Just this morning, my wife (principal driver of this vehicle) tried to put the vehicle in reverse (located inside our home garage). The vehicle will not reverse. From reading other complaints, it seems that this is now a more common issue with this model of Lexus than ever before? the danger involved in having to play with a gear shift; shifting back and forth from park to reverse, or reverse to drive, just to move into gear is a hazard and danger for a vehicle particularly housed in a garage. I'm also learning that others have experienced this model of Lexus SUV jumping out of gear and locking up the axles while the vehicle is in motion. Lexus is not an inexpensive vehicle, and owners should expect more from a vehicle of this price range and overall quality otherwise. This transmission slip out of gear problem happened on Aug. 22, 2011.

The car is a 2010 Mazda Mazda3. The VIN of the problem Mazda3 is JM1BL1S55A_. Have had a situation occur about a dozen times since I purchased new in July 2010 with 93 miles - now at ~35500 miles. When coming to a stop on a cold engine that has only been running about 2-3 minutes, clutch pushed in to shift out of gear and brakes applied engine will rev to ~2500 rpm and it will stay there for about 3-4 seconds. First few times it happened I figured I hit the gas as well as the brake, after that I began to check my foot position on occurrence and my foot was nowhere near the accelerator. This has not caused any problems with a car accelerating on its own as it typically occurs as I am pushing the clutch in to come to a stop. Only happens when the engine is still cold (generally the first stop of the day) and is very random when it occurs. Have not brought to attention of dealership as there are no common factors to be able to reproduce the problem. Upon notice of other complaints for this issue I wanted to add my own experience. car   Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of Nissan Frontier

The vehicle having this issue was a 2007 Nissan Frontier. I was driving down a back road. While traveling up a slight hill the truck slipped out of gear. When I pressed the gas pedal the engine would rev but it would not accelerate. I pulled to the side of the road and turned off the truck. When I restarted and put it in drive I started rolling backwards. I ended up getting towed to my mechanic. If this was the original transmission I could understand that at 155k miles it could fail, however this truck has now gone through the factory transmission as well as a factory refurbished transmission all within 7 years. I read online about many Frontier owners having the same issue as I have. I brought the truck to my mechanic who informed me that the radiator fails which causes the transmission to fail. I feel lucky that I was on a back road because the failure happened quickly, had I been on a highway with moderate traffic I could easily been stranded in the middle of the road. car   Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of Toyota Tundra

The vehicle having this issue was a 2005 Toyota Tundra. The VIN of this vehicle was 5TBET34165_. Gear shift on steering wheel column became loose and it became very difficult to place truck into park. It started gradually until the play in the shifter was so bad that I could no longer put it into drive, reverse or neutral without the shifter handle hitting the windshield wiper handle and causing the windshield wipers to activate and squirt cleaner onto the windshield. I was concerned that it was going to slip out of gear or into gear causing injury or death, and it became increasingly hard to put the vehicle into park. I took it to Toyota dealer and they replaced it. I have the part (a1 shaft sub-assembly / bd376 housing, steering column) and it is defective inferior metal part broken into two pieces. This transmission slip out of gear problem happened on 08/10/13.

car   Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of Volkswagen Jetta

The vehicle was a 2002 Volkswagen Jetta. After sitting in traffic and driving at low speeds the car suddenly will slip out of gear. The engine races and I am stuck in first. I have to continue to drive at high rpms in 1st just to get home. It happened intermittently at first, but now it happens daily in traffic. I took it it volkswagon and they say nothing is wrong. Took it to a transmission shop and they say the transmission must be rebuilt for $6000. If I turn the car off and it cools down, I can sometimes get it to stay in gear. It happened several times while accelerating onto a freeway nearly causing an accident because I had to quickly pull off the roadway. Unreal that volkswagon is "unaware" of this issue and can't seem to repair it. Please recall!. This transmission slip out of gear issue occurred 04/01/2013.

car   Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of Volkswagen Jetta

The car involved is a 2009 Volkswagen Jetta. The VIN of this Jetta is 3VWPL71K79_. After backing up out of a drive way it would not shift out of first gear. After pulling over to side of the road I tried to shift it into reverse and nothing happened then tried to manually shift it into forward gears and the same thing only first gear would engage. The lights on the dash for which gear you are in was flashing and until it was shut of then restarted it started working again. I took it to the dealer and they said that it wasn't part of the drive train so I would have to fork over 2500 dollars to replace the computer that was in the transmission, the mechatronic that controls the valve body and clutches. They said they found an issue with it but didn't say what it was. I contacted vw and they said they would look into it,after two days they called and said that there weren't any warranty issues for the extended warranty that I had purchased. Now if its in the transmission wouldn't you think that it is a part of the drive train. The transmission wouldn't run with out it. I researched the problem on line and found that there are allot of problems with this transmission due to the mechatronic unit and it is a safety recall due to accidents created by it. I cannot trust this car now and will be trading it in for a Toyota. I have 500,000 miles on a echco that still runs like it was new and have never had to take it in for any problems. I would like to have this car fixed before getting rid of it because I would feel guilty if someone got hurt from the problem that is in the transmission. It was 01/29/2014 when this transmission slip out of gear issue happened.

Upon further investigation, we have found that there are literally thousands of complaints regarding these transmissions failing yet Volvo has failed to step up and address the problem. In our case, my wife was driving the car, in traffic, when the car slipped out of gear and started slowing down! luckily she was able to get off on the shoulder before trailing traffic caught up to her, but imagine what may have happened if she wasn't able to get out of the way! Volvo knows this is a problem and should do something so that 1) no serious injuries come from this failure, and 2) to compensate the Volvo owners out there that have had to shell out thousands of dollars in repair costs for this problem. car   Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of BMW 528

For the past 8 months, my car, a 2008 BMW 528i slips out of drive (d) into park (p) as I was backing up & moving forward either from a parking position or as I begin to accelerate from a stop. The gear shift would go from (d) into (p) and cause the car to jerk to a rapid stop. It makes a horrible noise as it grinds to a stop. It requires me to put it back into park and turn it off sometimes and then start it again. I thought I might be doing something wrong until I read all these other posts so I haven't reported it til now. This creates a dangerous situation and I always start slow now fearful that it will jump into p at a higher rate of speed. I could be in a parking lot or anywhere, moving backward or forward when this happens. It was Tuesday, April 1, 2014 when this transmission slip out of gear issue occurred.

car   Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of Cadillac Catera

The car is a 2001 Cadillac Catera. My vehicle's sport shifting indicator light came on about a week before the transmission failure. My car would refuse to shift out of first gear until I drove it for a few miles and/or turned the car off and restarted it. I was in a local town when the front end started to shudder and make noise. I took it to a auto transmission shop who stated the sending unit for the fluid failed and it had burned out the first gear. He stated that this was most likely a manufacture defect. I contacted gm headquarters and was refused any help in fixing the issue or resolving the issue. They stated that the problem was because it had not had a sufficient history with gm dealerships getting maintenance, and that I was the third owner. Keep in mind, this transmission went out after my owning the vehicle for only 9 mos, paid 14,000. 00 for the car and only has 73,000 miles on it. I now am unable to drive my car until it is fixed, which I am quoted 1500. 00 for a rebuild and a year warranty that I cannot afford at this time and having to drive a very unreliable and very unsafe vehicle in the meantime. I just want my car back. This transmission slip out of gear issue occurred Thursday, March 10, 2005.

Each time the vehicle comes to a stop the vehicle will shift into neutral. You will then have to turn the vehicle off and back on to go forward. But when the vehicle comes to stop the vehicle shifts out of gear again. A new trans is needed due to the 3rd and 4th gears no engaging. The vehicle is less than five years old, although it has over 140k miles. This seems to be a recurring theme with the Xf model.
