car   Trunk Lid Lock problem of Acura TL

The vehicle involved is a 2005 Acura Tl. The vehicle identification number (VIN) is 19UUA66285_. Incidents started occurring immediately after purchase of car. Trunk lid springs do not have sufficient tension, such that when we open the trunk on even a slight hill the trunk lid may stay up for a few seconds, but slams shut either immediately, after something of weight is put in the trunk, or if a breeze comes up. This has occurred several times to my wife and me, resulting in the trunk lid hitting our head or spine with sufficient force to cause significant pain and a wound. If this happened to a young child, it could result in serious injury. Acura replaced one spring with a stronger one, but that has done almost nothing to help. The service manager at the dealer also checked other '05 Acura Tl models and they did the same thing. He acknowledged it is a safety issue and said he would report it to Acura. The dealer was unable to make any further adjustments to the springs. I complained to Acura customer service and they acknowledged they have had similar reports. However, they said they did not have a sufficient number to justify a recall or to even come up with a solution. Thus I am contacting you. This is definitely a safety hazard and appears to apply to all 2005 Acura Tl's (at least a representative sample at the dealer). We now have to hold up the trunk lid with one hand while putting anything in the trunk while on even a slight incline. This trunk lid lock problem happened on Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005.

They agree that a problem exist, but will not perform the repairs for free, since it is not a recall item, yet. It opens unexpectedly and randomly. It pops open while driving, which can cause items to possibly fall out of the trunk. I've found it open several times after having the vehicle parked for a few minutes of for a few hours. I own a 2000 Mazda 626 with only 90,000 miles. I have been stranded several times in this car and spent over $3000 parts and labor. I had to replace the catalytic converter, several sensors, master break cylinder, cv boots, and rack and pinion. Now I am having trouble with the transmission and the ac. The mechanic says I need to rebuild the trans and replace the ac compressor. This is another $3000 or more. I am very disappointed in this situation. I plead with you to take action on this. I have checked several web forums and found similar problems. Please, please make Mazda accountable for building such bad cars. Fyi, I am very, very diligent in general maintenance. car   Trunk Lid Lock problem of Mercedes Benz S Class

The vehicle was a 2003 Mercedes Benz S Class. My 2003 mercedes s500 has twice electronically self-closed it's trunk on two separate users, on two separate occasions. This vehicle has been taken to two separate mercedes dealers for the problem. One of those dealers replaced a number of parts. Despite doing so, the second occurrence (last night), left my other half in tears, pain, with a recess in her head and a headache. The electronic trunk lid has had instances where it does not open all the way, does not close all the way, or a combination of the two. Then there is the more serious and I believe potentially life treating, unprovoked, unexplained and as yet un fixed electronic closing that has twice occurred when putting in or removing goods from the trunk. I would find it hard to believe that I am the only owner who has had such a problem. The metal trunk lid comes down with force striking directly on the top of an adults head. It is unknown what it would do to a non-adult. I have spoken to a representative for mercedes who states to her knowledge there is no problem and that they would be happy to get the car in and attempt to fix it, but can not guarantee they can. The first time it occurred, it hit me and nearly knocked me out. After bringing the car in I assumed it was fixed, however, after last night, it clearly is not. Though I can not make it perform upon command, I have no reason to believe it will not occur again. This problem occurred on Saturday, June 17, 2006.

car   Trunk Lid Lock problem of Mercury Mountaineer

VIN of the vehicle was 4M2ZU54E5W_. I have a 1998 Mercury Mountaineer. Have driven this vehicle since Nov. 1999. Have several complaints with vehicle. Rear wiper has worked about 20% of the entire time I have owned vehicle. It does not work at present and has not worked for over two years. Got tired of trying to have it repaired. Lights on stereo has been going off and on since I have owned the vehicle. Sometimes light will stay off for a week. After playing a cd in the cd player (not changer), cd becomes very hot and it usually destroys cd. Driver's side door lock did not work for about a year and then started working. Something fell out or broke off of the passenger side door and door lock will not lock automatically. Power antenna started not going down completelyabout two weeks ago and now will not work at all even though power is still going to it because you can hear the motor. Have had all recalls done on vehicle except the bolt replaced on driver's side seat. There have been about four recalls on vehicle since I have owned it. Power lock on rear door will not unlock unless you use the key. It would seem that there is some major electrical problems with vehicle. This should have been checked on these vehicles long ago. It was 07/25/2000 when this trunk lid lock issue occurred.

car   Trunk Lid Lock problem of Subaru Outback

The car is a 1999 Subaru Outback. The vehicle identification number (VIN) is 4S3BG6850X_. The trunk door on my Subaru legacy Outback station wagon will not open. Once you lock it, you can not open it again unless you jiggle the lock over and over with the key. This is a very frustrating failure because when you have a station wagon, a working trunk door is vital. I was told by a Subaru dealer that it would cost about $300 to $400 to fix so I have delayed fixing it because I can sometimes work on it and get it to open. When I brought the car to a local mechanic, he told me he had 3 to 4 other Subaru owners come in with the same problem which he is not capable of fixing. Apparently, the back inside panel has to be removed and a body shop has to do the work. Yesterday, I was at a supermarket parking lot trying to open the back when a couple approached me and told me they had to replace their lock because it wouldn't open. They have a Subaru station wagon also (I don't know the year, but it was not brand new) I believe there is a defect in the motor or lock. *b. The failure date was Sunday, October 2, 2005.

car   Trunk Lid Lock problem of Subaru Impreza

Vehicle identification number (VIN): JF1GD70624_. I bought a 2004 Subaru Impreza wrx sti in July 2003 from bob baker Subaru in el cajon, California and ever since then I have had one problem after the next. Please be advised that all servicing is completed at the lancaster Mazda-Subaru location where I live. Several cosmetic parts were defective when the car was purchased such the trunk latch did not function, the back seat was unhooked, the seat lever that moves the seat in half, the cup holder does not function properly, and the head lights fogged up. Mechanical failure has also occurred. It has had an odd noise in the engine since the beginning which Subaru claims is normal for this car because it is a "racecar". The starter sometimes grinds when attempting to start the car, Subaru could not diagnose this problem. The left rear chassis makes an odd noise when rolling that Subaru could not diagnose. It has gotten progressively worse and now when you turn the vehicle it makes a loud metal against metal screech. As of 6/18/2004 the engine has begun to fail. When the rpms reach between 4000-5000 the car cuts out prior to accelerating and a burning smell is detected. I spoke with the original dealership I bought the car from and they acknowledged that when this car is driven a little bit harder than normal they are noticing that several of the Impreza wrx sti's are being brought back in with engine failure. They have noted several problems such as turbo bog, overheating, poor performance, and the catalytic converters burning up. There is obviously a distinct problem with this over $30,000 and I think a complaint should be filed against Subaru. When it is out of warranty and it breaks, as it will, it will just sit in a garage because I cannot afford to fix a car that is manufactured poorly. Subaru has advised that this car is a race car and it is far from that. They should be held responsible for all problems arising from this car since they obviously manufactured a poorly made vehicle. This trunk lid lock problem happened on Sep. 11, 2003.

Trunk lock simply turns in circular motion when trying to open with a key 6. Passenger front door sometimes will not stay closed due to lock assembly not functioning properly 7. Car will not go into 4th gear without warming up, yet all systems check ok when tested at mechanic shops. No one will do anything about it because I bought it used form a dealer. A second time, while driving 70 mph, the accelerator pedal was released and the vehicle accelerated to 100 mph. car   Trunk Lid Lock problem of Audi A6

The vehicle involved is a 2005 Audi A6. 1) no events leading up to failure. 2) the electronic trunk latch fails intermittently. About 90% of the time the trunk will not latch, meaning the car is unsecurable and the trunk lid will fly open while driving even on minor bumps in the road. This is a very dangerous safety issue, as not only can I not secure my car or us the trunk, but when the lid flies open it impairs rearward visibility, blocks the third brake light for drivers behind me, and due to unsecurable items puts drivers behind me at risk of accident. 3) took the car to stammler imports (Audi dealer) in boulder CO. They stated "this is a huge problem on all of the current Audi models and the parts are on backorder from germany. " they are unable to tell me even an approximate timeframe of when the car might be repaired. They are unable to provide a temporary fix to improve the safety issues. They refused to provide a loaner car that I can safely use until this issue is resolved. It has now been almost 2 months since I first brought the car to the dealer to fix the issue which remains unresolved. The dealer's current solution remains that I drive around with this trunk safety issue indefinitely. I also called Audi America customer relations at 800-822-2834 to help resolve the issue and spoke to a representative named brandon. I informed him of the ongoing trunk safety issue with my vehicle and expressed how it also represents a huge liability for Audi if there were to be an accident as a result of this issue. He states at this time he is unable to do anything other than call the dealer and ask for more information. He states he is unable to authorize the dealer provide a loaner car until this issue is resolved. He states Audi America is unable to pay for a rental car until this issue is resolved. He states he is "in a difficult situation as Audi America does not have much leverage with its dealers" and is unable to offer any resolution of the problem at this time. This trunk lid lock problem happened on Wed., Nov. 28, 2007.

car   Trunk Lid Lock problem of Buick Lesabre

The vehicle is a 2001 Buick Lesabre. VIN of the vehicle was 1G4HP54KX1_. I am reporting what I consider to be a safety defect in the 2001 Buick lasabre. Tonight my husband's Buick lasabre was parked on an uphill slope. He popped the trunk and it went up when he popped it (as it is supposed to do). However, as I then went to put a package within the trunk, the trunk lid crashed down on my head, instead of locking in a upward position as it should have. I still have quite a headache from the impact. Evidently this is not an infrequent occurrence; my husband said that he feels there is a defect in the mechanism which should hold the lid up. He said that this problem seems to occur when the car is parked on an uphill slope. Because I rarely drive his car or put anything in the trunk, it is the first time I was aware of this particular problem. When this happened tonight, my husband told me that he had reported this defect to Buick some time ago but never got a response. I shudder to think of the tragedy which could have occurred if I had been holding one of my three small grandchildren as the lid came crashing down on me. I do hope you investigate this potential hazardous situation and see that Buick does something to fix this problem. Thank you. This issue happened on Thursday, November 20, 2003.
