This car has an electrical trunk that opens and the trunk also, has a spring air rod that controls the hold of the open trunk. I know this failed because the trunk just lost its hold all of a sudden and landed on my neck. As I tried to lift it from above me (its very heavy- big trunk), my left hand index finger broke and my left arm and hand are in pain. Not to mention, the severe pain I am undergoing with my neck. I also bled a lot and immediately went to the emergency room. I believe this can be a manufacturing defect due to the excessive weight of this trunk door and the device being relied on for the control of trunk. car   Trunk Lid problem of Lexus ES

The car involved was a 2002 Lexus Es. There was crash involved with this Lexus Es. My wife, who drives the Lexus all the time, was preparing to drive the car from the garage to drive downtown. She had her foot on the brake pedal (as is necessary to move the transmission to reverse). The moment it was engaged the car leaped backward, leaving tire marks on the cement of the garage and also the driveway itself. Her efforts to stop the car by stomping on the brake pedal had no effect. She grazed the house, moved through a flower bed, leaving a tire mark the whole distance, struck the corner of the house and continued up a small incline in the neighbor's yard, luckily missing a large tree there and came to a stop. The corner of the house removed was about 3-4 feet on each side of the corner juncture itself. There were two witnesses across the street in front of the house, both of whom immediately came to her aid and voiced the opinion that the car was truly moving at a high speed. My wife had no injuries other than being very shook-up and thankful that neither she or others were injured. Of course, the car is a mess: bricks from the house impact fell on the hood, top, and trunk lid. A the right side of the car is scraped, one rear window is broken, the large rear window is gone, the trunk lid is in bad shape as is the rear bumper. The top has several dents and window trim also. My primary concern is whether or not the car is safe to drive after the external repairs are made. I believe only Lexus can tell me, if they will. It was Aug. 7, 2013 when this trunk lid issue occurred.

The vehicle involved was a 2000 Mercedes Benz S500. VIN of the vehicle was WDBNG75J9Y_. My 2000 S500 is rusting uncontrollably around the bottom of all doors and trunk lid and fenders. I thought buying a $90,000 vehicle would evade these issues. I have tried to contact Mercedes Benz about the issue and have gotten the run around. They suggest spending 5k+ on a new paint-job! they only tell me that they serviced the recall on the rubber stripping on the bottom of all doors. This is embarrassing and I don't know how mb is doing business in this fashion. Ive read several threads about this same issue all around the world. Canada fixes these rust problems for free with no questions asked. Mbusa on the other hand will not responsibly fix the error. This is totally absurd and for a company that is supposed to be all about quality it shows their true colors. This trunk lid issue occurred Sunday, August 1, 2004.

car   Trunk Lid problem of Nissan Murano

The vehicle involved was a 2005 Nissan Murano. I (female) loaded my trunk to empty my classroom for the summer. I filled my trunk with heavy boxes that needed to be moved. Once I got to where I was going my trunk would not open. I had to lay the seats down and pull everything out that way. Then it happened again when I had small children at the grocery and they had to stand beside the car b/c the trunk would not open for me to load it. Also my driver door will only lock or unlock with a key not the remote. I go to the places alone or with only small children quite a bit and do not feel this is safe. There have been people all over the us with problems on their Muranos and other Nissan vehicles dealing with the locks. Some even are unable to get their gas door to open!! Nissan refuses to admit this is a problem. For the safety of everyone driving a Nissan, this needs to be looked at. It would be very disturbing to be approached by a stranger in a parking lot and not be able to get away because the door won't open or to be unable to put gas in your vehicle b/c the door wouldn't open. The safety of children also comes into play when a door will not open. It was 04/10/2012 when this trunk lid issue occurred.

car   Trunk Lid problem of Toyota Corolla

The car is a 2010 Toyota Corolla. Under certain limited conditions, the trunk doesn't hold open by itself. Especially noticeable when parked facing uphill in owner's driveway. Owner has unexpectedly been hit in the head several times while retrieving cargo because the trunk just comes down hard from the fully open position. Several times when this happens, the latch area of the trunk lid has impacted owner's head. This latch is only covered by a small plastic piece, otherwise it's metal. The owner hasn't been injured, but it has caused them pain each time it happens. Owner had it checked at a Toyota dealer. They said it occurs because an aftermarket rear spoiler was installed by a prior owner. Dealer says this aftermarket spoiler is too heavy, causing trunk not to stay open. Dealer offered to remove spoiler for a fee. We've since discovered Toyota has issued a TSB that tells dealers to replace one or both torsion bars for this condition. We'd like to NHTSA to review this & see if enough other complaints have been made to consider a recall. This issue happened on Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2011.

car   Trunk Lid problem of Volkswagen Jetta

The car involved is a 2006 Volkswagen Jetta. I am the owner of a 2006 vw Jetta tdi sedan. I purchased the vehicle used in a private sale in 2009. By 2011 I was having numerous problems with the vehicle. The dual mass flywheel failed just after I had my car at the dealership for the timing belt service (approximate mileage 106,000). I had to have it towed (at my expense) to the dealership since it wasn't safe to drive the 130 miles. Dealership said it was a known problem but Volkswagen of America has not offered any assistance. Apparently someone has to die to get their attention. Approximate cost of repairs: $1,800. 2nd big problem is electrical. Wiring harness in the driver door failed soon after I purchased it. It started with the driver window switch not working. Then the lock/unlock button quit working. Then the interior/exterior safety lights. I have heard that it will progress to the trunk lid, the other windows, the fuel door, ect. Once again an extremely common problem due to a poor design. Once again Volkswagen of America has refused to offer assistance - the dealership quoted me just under $500 in parts and labor. Why would a harness cost $205!!! third problem is cosmetic issues. The paint is flaking off especially near the seams and at the wheel wheels. Rust formed where the paint bubbled up at two of the four wheel wheels. There is a service bulletin for paint problems in the generation before this vehicle and a 10-12 year corrosion warranty that vw refuses to honor. Additionally, problems with poor manufacturing practices and materials abound in this vehicle. The headliner pulls away from the pillars at the seams in the rear due to defective materials. It will separate from the roof and become a hanging visibility hazard. The plastic dash pieces don't fit together - shrinking and pulling away at the seams. Stereo buttons (as well as door switches) bubble and flake off. It was 02/02/2011 when this trunk lid issue occurred.

car   Trunk Lid problem of BMW 750

The car involved was a 2011 BMW 750li. The 2011 BMW 7 series has a dangerous design flaw whereby the mechanical trunk closing motor does not reverse or stop if there is an obstruction, but rather it just crunches down, which broke my rear windshield and cost $2,700 to replace. Much cheaper cars like Toyota minivans, etc have a safety feature whereby the trunk closer reverses. Why does my $110,000 car not have this safety feature? why does BMW not want to admit this problem, or pay to replace my windshield? this is dangerous as a person's arm could get crushed as a result.
