Chevrolet Camaro owners have reported 60 problems related to service brakes (under the service brakes category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Chevrolet Camaro based on all problems reported for the Camaro.
Prior to the incident (vehicle crash), immediately after the vehicle was purchased (March 2023), it was taken back to the dealership several times due to a slight noise and sensation the wheels and brakes were making. The issue was internment, and the dealership insisted they were unable to replicate the issue. It felt as if the wheels were momentarily locking when slowing down to apply the brakes. We thought it was a brake issue, but the dealership assured us the brakes were ok. Due to the ongoing issue with the interment, we decided to purchase new tires that were the recommended size for the vehicle, rather than the original tires it recently (on 09/5/2024), we upgraded the wheels and tires to wider oem spec wheels in an effort to improve the vehicle's efficiency during driving and braking. On may 25, 2025, after a vehicle brake-checked the vehicle in front of our Camaro, the Camaro was unable to adequately perform the brake operation due to wheel lockup, resulting in an accident. While the vehicle in front of our Camaro managed to maneuver out of the way, the Camaro's wheels locked when decreasing speed to apply the brakes. When brakes were applied despite only traveling at 37-40 mph, the Camaro felt like it was not slowing down, as if the brakes were not working correctly. Forcing a maneuver to the left side, scraping and damaging the front and rear wheels/tires, and impacting the rear end of a 2021 Chevrolet spark. The Camaro suffered substantial damage exceeding 19,000, and our son, the driver, sustained physical injuries. Unfortunately, we were not notified of the recall # n242480630, until June 2 2025 many days after the accident. We received the notification via the onstar service we pay for, and a few days after via the progressive insurance app. A police report was filed, my son was ticketed for failing to control the vehicle, and the insurance deemed it an at-fault accident (due to being a rear-end collision). The vehicle has been deemed a total loss.

I have purchased a 2015 Chevrolet Camaro and it has become obvious that there is an electrical issue that was not previously disclosed by the dealership. The radio and air conditioning shut off randomly while driving and it is accompanied by a loud popping sound. In addition, when pressing on the brake or using the right turn signal, the radio will also shut down completely, while the air conditioning is making a loud rumbling noise. This happens frequently and there is also a constant blinking in the lights on the front of the radio. This appears to be an electrical issue and the safety concerns are based on the premise that it can be reproduced by stepping on the brake or using the turn signal. Each of these need to be in proper working condition in order to be considered safe on the road. I am writing as after going to several shops thinking it was an issue with the radio itself, I was advised that this is a known issue with the Chevrolet Camaro. There are countless posts online with other Camaro owners complaining of the same symptoms and this defect should likely be included in a recall or repairs covered by the manufacturer. Please look into my concerns.

Vehicle was parked in driveway at home on slight incline (<3% grade). Parking brake failed but vehicle is a manual and was in 1st gear so it didn't move noticeably. Discovered when pushed in clutch to start vehicle and had to slam hard on brake to stop vehicle moving backwards down incline. Took vehicle to local dealership and paid for inspection. Linkage to parking brake below center console had broken free at joint (lead solder ball popped off cable). No new parts are available to repair, limited availability for used parts (have yet to find one). Dealer service advisor made comment that it happens a lot so parts are difficult to find now.

After having the car for a year with regular maintenance and service, out of nowhere car was giving electrical problems that was making my car battery die and the abs brake system giving out completely to the point where the vehicle has no brakes at all & engine failure due to cylinder #1 no compression, car kept giving codes p0300 , c0299 , b1517 , notice there’s an service bulletin from gm no. Pi1178f is know as a common problem for ltg engines, also the only way I found out that the engine was damaged when I took the vehicle to the dealership for diagnostic and was told that one of the cylinders had no compression which had came down the line that an piston ring had internally damaged my engine, vehicle has 145k and was running smoothly until sudden electrical problems.

Anti-lock braking system (abs) stopped working. During a panic stop on a freeway, I was cut off by a van. The rear wheels locked. The dealer charged $200 to restore the system. Then, a few months later, it happened again. The dealer comped the repair. However, they said the car needs to be driven more. A safety system's functionality should not rely on the frequency of driving. This is a serious design flaw warranting a recall.
5 times the brakes went out with no warning until they were out then the break assist light came on. It's been in shop 5 times over brake failure.

My 2013 Camaro had 89k miles, garage kept in excellent condition. My vehicle had never given me any issues and has impeccable maintenance records. I was pulling out of a parking spot when my engine started riving and jerking and I accelerated while in reverse and hit a concrete post behind me. I applied the brake and placed the car in drive. My car took off with a high speed of acceleration with my brakes still applied, and accelerated out of control. It followed the same path back into the parking spot ( I could not stir it) jumped the curb and ran through a brick wall finally coming to a stop in the middle of the business. The engine was still racing and in drive but the car had finally stopped and in a state of rest. I had to put the car into park and kill the engine. I could not control the car, the engine was racing with high rpm’s on its own, and driving in “ auto pilot” for lack of better term. Not one air bag deployed despite the fact I ran through a brick wall and totaled the car.
The contact owned a 2014 Chevrolet Camaro. The contact stated while driving at approximately 15 mph, another vehicle failed to yield and crashed into the front passenger side of the vehicle. The contact stated he depressed the brake pedal however, the vehicle failed to stop, and the steering wheel failed. The air bags deployed seconds after the crash. No warning lights illuminated. The contact sustained injury to his back and a head concussion. Medical attention was needed. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to the contacts residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The vehicle was deemed a total loss by the insurance. The dealer was not notified. The manufacture was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage of 109,000.
The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Camaro. The contact stated while driving approximately 50 mph and on a race track the vehicle would not brake and the steering wheel failed to turn the vehicle as the contact was navigating a turn on the race track. The contact hit the race track wall on the entire driver's side, a side swipe. The contact had the vehicle towed to a dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed by a manufacturer representative, however the information was not shared with the contact. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 7,000.

Came upon stopped traffic on i15 freeway I pushed on my brakes and had none I had to run off of the road to avoid a rear end collision at 75 mph ,brakes were solid no movement of petal at all no matter how hard I pushed ,after I got my car back under control and came to a rolling stop a notice came on in my dash saying . . . Brake assist. . . Nothing was assisting anything I had no brakes !!! I had to have my car brought home by a towing company (2) states away from my home . Had I not had a way to get off the road to avoid the stopped traffic it would have been a 75 mph rear end accident with very possibly and more than likely. . . . . Fatalities . . . . I have since found out this is a very common flaw with Camaros ,look on line and read the forums !!! I my daughter and my 5 month old grandson ride in this car daily . . One of my questions is . . If it was your family what would you do to fix this problem and save their lives . . . .
The tires spun out of control while going the speed limit and wearing a seatbelt. The brakes ultimately failed. The car had no functional safety features, and I couldn't control the steering. It went airborne and rolled over. The airbags failed to deploy after hitting a tree. My safety and others were put at risk, and I almost died from the accident. I suffer from life-threatening/altering injuries.
Purchased vehicle in 2018. I’m the only owner. At the 84,000 miles mark lost brake pedal pressure. Detected the problem while parking. Took the car to the dealership for repairs. The car is at the dealership now and the dealership so far has said it may be the vacuum pump. They said that they are confirming if this is the case.
I had bought a 2017 Camaro on 5/18/2021 and on 6/13/2021 I was in a car accident and once we were hit the air bags pop out we were not going to fast and on the driver side the embrome pop out and also smoke the driver had put his arm to cover his face and he has the mark on his arm of the embrome.
We purchased a vehicle from shamley in el paso texas and we were in volved in a head on coullsion. We tried to stop and the breaks didn't function we were going 25 mph. We lost traction control and hit a car who took the red light and the air bags popped and the driver airbags emblem was marked on my forearm. May you please assist me.
Around 3/2/2021 I received a dash warning light for the electronic parking brake indicating some form of malfunction. The electronic parking brake began to stay on once set and when I would accelerate a bit, it would release. Thereafter the rear brakes and calipers completely locked up while sitting in my garage and would not move. I had to have it towed out of my garage and to a Chevrolet dealership for repair. The Chevrolet dealer repaired it after approximately one week or more and five or six days later the indicator light returned stating electronic parking brake malfunction so I took it back to the Chevrolet dealership and they repaired again. I had also contacted the dealership I purchased from in tennessee and made them aware of the problem and they agreed to pay for the repair because my warranty did not cover this repair because it happened to be from prior damage to the car before I purchased it. After speaking in great detail with the Chevrolet dealer, it was explained to me that this is beyond repair at this point if I were to have any further issues with this and strongly recommended having this replaced and that it is currently unsafe considering this could happen again including while I am driving and could result in to an accident and possible injury to myself and others. I then hired an attorney to dispute this with the dealership I purchased from and they on many occasions declined any compensation for this. It is very pricy and the salesperson had told me at one point the car tire had had a blowout and defected a wiring issue with the electronic parking brake and that the switch had been replaced and that the side indicator lights were not working off and on. He assured me that this had been fixed, meaning it only needed a switch. The whole body wiring harness was very badly effected and there are currently seventeen wires that are not secure in which control a lot of the car. I did also retrieve the service records.

I was at a red light waiting to make a turn and once the green light came on I stepped on the gas. I was about to stop at the next red light and my brakes wouldn't work. A metal noise can be heard as I stepped on the brake. The closer I got I kept stepping all the way down the brake pedal. The "brake assist" light came on. I pulled over and gave the brakes a few pumps and still wouldn't break until I shut the car and turned back on. I released the handle break on and off. Also stepped on the brakes and everything went back to normal. Now I dont feel comfortable driving it till Monday when I call the dealer.
So I had a the flip key I purchased my car in the beginning of 2019 on Feb 28 2019 I was out with my fiancé and the key flicked the ignition off the car lost all power all steering and it was winter the car lost control we ended up on top of a 5 foot snow bank witch we hit hard it tore my whole front end off it was like 8000 $ in damage due to this danger and my car now has an accident report witch also caused my insurance to go up I have since gotten the new key made but it doesn’t change the fact I paid a lot of money for this car that now has an accident and repairs done to it that never is the same again … our lives were put at risk and my insurance went through the roof for at fault claim … what can be done about this I’m not impressed I also asked if there was any recalls on my car and was told no I complained about the key and they made me a normal new one I still have the fob that had the flick key in it but they took the key thank god I want to know what steps I can take to deal with this I drove the car home with the front end in the trunk and prices hanging I never contacted the police cause there was no other driver involved my car was mint now it’s been back more then 3 times to the shop and they give it back and the clear coat peels off now they are saying they aren’t touching my car anymore this has caused me a lot of headache I have been dealing with it all through the pandemic and had to pay a deductible of 500$ well I was off work and it has just added to my stress and depression I want to just give up on the car ????I was just made aware that this key was a recall and a lawsuit just happened over it and when I looked it says the deadline was April 2021 there just be somthing that can be done this is unacceptable if we were on a highway we would have deffinetly been injured or worse.
Driving down the freeway and the driver side rear tire locks up and brakes become hard as a rock, and cause me to spin out on the freeway. Radio cut off and felt like the car was picking up speed rather then slowing down! onstar then proceeded to tell me via email there is an issue with my anti braking system and stability trac system after the crash.
When driving vehicle and making a left turn, there is a loud sound what sounds like rubbing coming from rear tires. Took it in for an oil change and tire rotation in which the mechanic couldn't find an issue. Three days later I received a notification on my screen stating to service the parking break.
Tl the contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Camaro. While driving 60 mph and exiting the highway, all the warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact depressed the brake pedal, but the vehicle did not respond. The contact veered to the shoulder of the road, allowing the vehicle to come to a complete stop. The contact attempted to turn the vehicle off and back on, which failed to return the vehicle to normal. The contact was able to drive the vehicle at low speeds to sierra Chevrolet (721 e central Ave, monrovia, CA 91016, (626) 605-1537). The dealer diagnosed that the brake assist module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer to have the brake module repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in a recall. The manufacturer stated that the failure was related to maintenance and provided case number: 9-5640437071. The failure mileage was approximately 74,000. The VIN was unknown.

Takata recall, I was driving down my city street when all of a sudden I believe it was a pot hole or just uneven gravel leading my knee hit the key in the ignition and in that second I had no control or control of what happened next. I could not brake, my seat belt locked on me hurting my collar bone, then my wheel was so hard to turn I was using both hands aggressively to turn as hard as I can just so I wouldn't hit a building or cause damage to others and as I was sterling I would keep pressing the brakes and they were just locked. I had to hit a barrier of wood to stop my car. The airbags did not deploy as well which was very scary. I had no control of my car for the first time and it was not my fault, this has never happened and I know it's because of the key being bumped. My recall # 14v346000 accidental bumping of key ignition. I had no idea this car had a recall. The dealership did not inform me either. I am now car -less and hoping to get somewhat taken care of because it was unsafe and I don't wish this on anyone. Very scary experience.
I'm considering purchasing this vehicle from a dealership in logan, OH. When I checked to see if there were reported problems with the model, I see that there are thousands of complaints concerning the ac/radio, climate control, turn signals and other associated electrical problems that are common to all of these related consumer complaints that as to date has not been addressed by either the gm corp. Or the NHTSA. The 2nd thing that I found there is indeed a recall concerning the ignition switch with many owners having not been able to get gm dealers to repair. Another concern to me about this particular vehicle, is that when I entered the VIN the results on this site states that there is zero recalls on this make, model and year. Just wondering what's up with that?.
incident #1: on June 15, 2018, after making my normal commute to and from work, I arrived home. Later that evening, when I tried to start my car, I was not able to start it at all. I was unable to figure out what the issue was and had to have it towed back to the dealership. It turned out that the issue was the starter - an issue that should definitely not need to be of concern to a new car owner. While I was provided with a loaner car, I was highly inconvenienced during my father's day weekend. incident #2: while driving car to an appointment on Thursday, June 21, 2018, the gas pedal got stuck and I could not stop the car. I repeatedly tried to apply brakes but this did not work. To avoid crashing, risking my safety and the safety of the other road users, I had to make a quick decision. This decision was for me to kick the gas pedal to break it. In order to drive the car to a safe location, I literally had to use an umbrella in place of the gas pedal to give power to the car.
6 months ago my infotainment screen started flashing and the cd would occasionally pop out of the player on its own. The music would turn itself off then come back on, startling me as it would be accompanied by a loud static or popping sound. It started off intermittently, then the screen went completely black and the music stopped working completely except for the constant buzzing/static sound accompanied by clicking as though something is trying to turn on. The screen and the music occasionally make a surprising appearance, usually after I've come to a stop, rolled my window down or used the turn signal. Which brings me to the next thing, the air conditioning system. To this day it comes on and off at its leisure, including the front and rear window defrost. My blinkers no longer make the sound to alert me that they are on. On a few occasions my drivers side window has failed to operate. I assume one day that will be also be inoperative based on previous trends. I cancelled my subscription to onstar since I have no access to the features any longer. This means I no longer have navigation, access to emergency services, hands free calling or even roadside assistance. I no longer have the ability to remote access my vehicle which was one of the main selling points. Now please imagine taking an uncomfortably silent ride with me and then all of the sudden a cd that wasn't playing pops out and the air conditioner keeps going on and off, all while the car sounds like its about to explode. I've researched online and found countless sites with numerous owners stating that they are experiencing the same problems. Add another 5000 or so characters to this complaint box and I will gladly copy and paste those owners' stories for you to consider as well. Chevrolet/gm say that this is my issue alone. I believe this should have been a recall years before I purchased my vehicle.
C025e an issue has been detected in the traction control system.
Takata recall, my Camaro has been making a lot of noises on the left front of the pumper, I called the dealer I bought my car from, and they want me to pay $125 an hr for inspection which they had told me everything would be free as long as I keep taking my car with them which everything was a lie I was supposed to get my oil changes for free, never happened after 2 nd time taking my car I had to pay, so I called for an oil change appointment and also mentioned to them that my seat belt was not working, that I had to get it fixed ASAP because I could not drive it like that it can be very dangerous, so I got my appointment set up, next thing I show up on my scheduled date, andy they told me I can't get my seat belt fixed without paying, well??? isn't there a warranty that covers 6 years on whatever happens to the vehicle? I guess that's not there policy ed denas, I've been asking other dealers, and they all told me Camaros have a 6 year warranty no matter what, why is this specific dealer not sticking to there word? they haven't been the best since the beginning, I can't keep paying for inspections when they said everything is covered for up to 6 years!.
Vehicle will not hold after the shift lever was placed into park position on incline. Car was placed in park and rolled back, driver door hit driver and drug driver about 20 feet on pavement. Passenger in car verified car was in park. Passenger was hit in back. Car continued to roll down field, across road into another field before stopping. Witnesses who went to car verified car was in park. Car was towed to empire Chevrolet in wilkesboro, nc. Service manager nelson greer told me nothing is wrong with car. Found gm service bulletin p11360a & d outlining this compliant and measures to fix. Nelson greer refuses to repair. Car is under warranty.
Bought the vehicle brand new January 2017. . . 2017 convertible Camaro ss. 6 weeks later the brakes have been squeaking all day every day. They squeak on any type of road and at any time of the day. I have brought it to 3 dealerships to be looked at and filed a formal complaint with gm they refuse to help me with anything. I have found thousands of the same complaints online and is just refusing to fix the issue or refund the money for these vehicles. They are saying the squeaking of the brakes is normal. I asked for them to replace them and fix the issue and they wont. Now when the vehicle gets over 50 mph the whole front end also vibrates and when I come to a complete stop and press the gas to accelerate it lunges forward. Nothing is being fixed.
Having brake problem on this vehicle which I don't even have 20,000 miles on this car yet. I have had to had 2 ailments within the last 9 months.
The breaks failed on my 2016 Camaro. Lost all power to breaks on city street they pulsed and vibrated on dry pavement but had no grip and had to stop by using transmission. Turned car off then back on breaks worked after that. Dealer and chevy says nothing is wrong and no error codes and they have no complaints on record. Very lucky no one was hurt. Whole news groups on web talk about this problem. . Read more...
