The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier. The contact stated that the front driver's side door latch no longer latches onto the vehicle. When making right turns, the front driver's side door always opens. The driver must hold the door in order to prevent it from opening while driving. The failure occurred while driving 15 mph. He has not taken the vehicle to the dealer and has not found any recalls. He believes this is a manufacturer defect and a recall should be issued. The current and failure mileages were 68,480. Updated 07/01/09 the consumer noticed the driver and passenger door latches were severely corroded. Updated 07/02/09.
I purchased a 2005 chevy Cavalier in October 2005. My car was purchased with bad or no shocks and within the first 1 to 2 years my trunk interior light blew off the wire sounding like a bomb. Then my driver rear door was not able to open (due to the linkages). Shortly after that the passenger rear door would not shut because the latch stuck (had to bungy strap it) then got it fixed to shut then it would not open (due to linkages) both front doors are messed up as well. ( drvier side difficult to open and poassenger side does not always catch when you shut it). My radio does not shut off when driver door is open like it should. My interior bulb had to be taken out due to never shutting off after doors were closed. My driver window makes noise when opening it. (manual window crank). My guages do not work properly either. I contacted gm and they said to take my car in to have it checked out and repaired but I can not afford the work to be done, the price for a rental, or to miss work. I had the car for 6. 5 years (almost) but the age of the car should have ntohing to do with everything going wrong with the linkages and electrical. Passengers have to crawl over the front seat to get into the back. Any information is appreciated. Best way to contact me is email and I will respond if a number is left. I need answers to what can be donefinancially I can not afford anything. I believe that I may have been sold a lemon. I had to replace my trunk latch due to it not wanting to close.

1) on 12/23/04, I was a passenger in a chevy cavilier van rented 12/22 thru avis, phoenix airport. 2) when exiting the vehicle, the automatic door (passenger side, rear) went back so quickly and with so much force that it snapped my wrist back (hyperextended) and wedged it between door and van. I had to open van using outside handle. 3) it was so painful that I went to emergency (mayo clinic). No broken bones. They said it was sprained, possible torn or bruised tendons. They put in a brace and told me to see my dr. Upon return from vacation. 4) inspite of several attempts to get someone's attention at avis or gm concerning the danger of this vehicle, as of today, I still have not received a call back from any one of authority. Representatives at both locations were surprised by my request that the van be taken out of the rental fleet and gave me no reassurances that they would stop renting. 5) on 12/28, I saw a report on local news that the van had been recalled for what seems to be the same problem. Gm tells me the recall only affected models thru 2001. 6) both companies promised me I would receive a call from someone qualified in this area by yesterday, 12/29. Neither comapny has called and both offices are closed again. 7) meanwhile, the van was returned on 12/28 and if rented, could cause serious damage to someone, especially a child!
please get someone's attention on this problem!! thanks!.

About a year ago I had to have my passenger back door latch replaced because the door would not stay closed, that cost me about $200. This year my driver back passenger door will not open, and my front passenger door is starting to do the same thing, the handle gets harder to open when this is going to happen. I have two children and this concerns me for safety reasons. I have reported this to gm and they are not going to do anything about this issue as my car is no longer under warranty. My sister also owns a 2001 Cavalier and her doors have done the same thing. Could you please help me in this situation, I know my car is not brand new, but is it not old either and having doors that do not work properly is a safety issue not to mention costly to have repaired.

2000 Chevrolet Cavalier z-24 - driver's side door freezes shut on most reasonably cold days. Passenger side door opens fine. My 94 Saturn parks right next to it and never has a problem unless it is extremely cold with ice and snow, which is understandable. Could the door/window seal be bad on the Cavalier?.
The two back doors on my 4 door 2000 Cavalier fly open. Once the plastic latch is broken, the door cannot be locked to prevent this from happening again. The first incident happened in March 2003 and the other door on the 4th of July, 2003.

First, the dashboard has cracked in the middle of my car. Immediately after buying the car the paint on buttons on the cd player/radio started peeling off. The problem has worsened over time. Lastly, the latch on the front driver's side broke off and the seat is now stuck in the upright position and cannot be laid back. Paint is peeling off on both sides of the car on the outside at the top from interstate driving.
While driving 50-60 mph the door on the driver's side opened. This happened when driver's daughter leaned against the door lightly. Dealer/manufacturer were notified about the problem. Lock assembly was replaced by the dealership at owner's expense. Please provide any further information.
Driver's and front passenger's door latches became inoperable. The dealer has replaced the latches. Manufacturer has been notified.
