The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that the abs brake hub and wheel bearings failed on the front driver and passenger sides of the vehicle. The vehicle would shutter when attempting to stop. The contact mentioned that the abs light illuminated on the instrument panel and the vehicle made a beeping sound when the failure occurred. The vehicle was taken to a dealer. The technician confirmed that the abs hub and bearing needed to be replaced. The failure mileage was 58,000.
It was very hard to apply brakes. They did not work. The abs and tc lights on dash board come on intermittently. The car at low speed hit a post due to brakes not working. This problem could lead to more dangerous situations.
Vehicle brakes jam up and abs and tc lights come on and stay on. Private mechanic replace left front wheel and hub ($140). Problem began again after a few days and now dealer says is wire harness. ($255) I noticed in the other postings this is a huge problem and apparently a defect. Why no recall? this vehicle is obviously not a well made vehicle.

While driving, either just getting into the car and pulling out of a parking space or having driven for a distance, when pushing on the breaks to stop the vehicle, they grind and the car doesn't stop. Sometimes, there is just a grinding sound and I don't bother pushing on the breaks because I know that they will not work. I took it to a shop and was told that my breaks looked fine. I will drive for a while and it may not happen again for days. Then it starts up again. . . . The grinding. It is sometimes accompanied by the tc and/or the abs light illuminating on the dashboard. Once I cut the car off and restart, the light(s) may go out. I have taken the car into the shop (both a dealer repair and an independent repair shop) and was told that they couldn't tell what the problem is. They have mentioned that the issue could be electrical, but none can confirm. Research on this site confirms that it is not just my vehicle. I do regular maintenance on my vehicle and yet this still happened. Chevy needs to take a look at this and provide a solution. This is dangerous.
I am the owner of a 2006 Chevrolet Equinox. Begining in February of 2013, noticed that abs and tc light were coming on while driving, and that front backs had cruching and grinding sound, and would jam when brakes were hit. Had front brake replaced, and new tires put on, and still had the same problem happening. Took it to dan vaden dealership on Feb 26, 2013, was informed that they could not find anything wrong with the vechile. On March 6, 2013 while pressing brakes they jammed, and had to pull vehicle off road not to hit vehicle in front of me. On March 7, 2013 took vehicle back to dan vanden dealership, they said they replaced the left front hub assembley for a charge of 593. 28 (labor and other fees). When I picked the vehicle up that evening and drove 1/2 mile the abs and tracking light came back on while driving. Drove vehicle back to dealership. I was given a courtesy vehicle for a week until they could figure out what was wrong. It is now June and I am experiencing the same problem of the abs and tc light coming on, and brakes jamming. I have also seen alot of complaints on google regarding this problem with the same vehicle. Would like to know why this problem has not been reported.
I would press the brake and it felt like the anti-lock brake was engaged. After a few times, the abs light came on the dashboard. In October 2012, I took it to a Chevrolet dealer to get it diagnosed and fixed. They replaced the left front abs sensor. Then I went for almost a month without an incident and now it has started again. I took it back to the dealer, this last week of Nov. 2012, and they told me that they will not replace the sensor because the abs light is not on, and that they are not just going to tear into everything because they are not sure what is wrong. I am worried about my safety of myself and those with whom I travel.
When driving my vehicle at speeds of 10-35mph my brakes lock up and make a loud grinding noise. The pedal pushes back at me and it is difficult to stop. It's almost as if the vehicle is trying to accelerate when I'm trying to stop it. The problem eventually fixes itself by turning off its abs system. . . The abs and tc lights come on and then I don't have another problem until I have turned off the vehicle and turned it back on again. It happens everytime I get in my car. . . And sometime does not correct itself until reaching higher speeds. I have had many occurrences when I was almost in an accident because of the inability to stop. I have contacted gm and my local dealer. . . It was diagnosed as an abs module that needs replacing. On their own gm forums there are hundreds of people with this same problem (among many others with this model). . . I guess someone will have to die before they recall this.
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while driving approximately 50 mph, the abs and traction lights illuminated and when depressing the brakes, the vehicle would exhibit a loud grinding noise. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where they advised her that they would replace the brakes and a hub bearing failure. The vehicle was later taken to the dealer and they advised the contact that they would replace the hub bearings. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred several months later. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer and they offered no assistance. The manufacturer was later contacted and they also offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 126,000. The VIN was unavailable.
While driving abs warning light came on. Abs brakes occasionally grabbed when stopping. Now (week later) it grabs at every stop and abs light comes on everytime you stop and then stays on until car is turned off. When braking feels like there is no control and car will not stop. Scared to drive it - so it is now parked until we can take in for repair $$$$$$$. Found many complaints while searching for answers. Not everyone knows to complain here. Hope one more will help before it is too late.
I was on the freeway merging into the slow lane when the car in front of me slowed so I put my foot on the brake and all I heard was grinding clunking no brakes suddenly my abs light came on and I had brakes. Since then I have taken it to 5 different places, spent 300 + dollars to replace the sensors, 700+ dollars to replace all of the brakes and systems (the guy felt bad because the computer says nothing is wrong but he himself almost hit the wall because no brakes) clearly something is wrong over 2 years I have spent over 2 thousand dollars but still the problem persists. There have been numerous complaints on here and the dealers response to me "bring it in and for $105 we will hook it up and see what's wrong" so what I spend another thousand with the dealer and no solution. It has to be something the models on here have in common. Why hasn't anybody looked into this. Is it going to take someone being killed and channel 7 looking into this before something is done? last night my husband almost went into an intersection because he couldn't stop. I can't afford a new car if I could I would have gotten rid of it in 2011.
My 2005 chevy Equinox's brakes started vibrating when I would try to stop and then the abs and tc lights would come on. Replaced front breaks, was told back breaks were okay. Still had the same problem and after awhile the brakes would vibrate even when not breaking and sometimes have trouble stopping until the abs and tc light comes on. 1st diagnostic determined I needed a right front wheel speed scensor. Replaced it and 2 days later had the same problem. Next I was told it needed the left wheel speed scensor. Replaced it. 2 days later starting having the same problem. Then I was told it needed the right front wheel bearing. Replaced both front wheel bearings. Still have a problem only now the breaks only vibrate and lights come on on hills, when turning or going at higher speeds.
Abs and tc light comes on and brakes give in and will not stop as before. 2006 Chevrolet Equinox. Different codes and readings when hooked up on machine by mechanic. Master cylinder and sensor, left front hub bearing replaced with sensor and abs module replaced. Still same problem.
I own a 2006 chevy Equinox that we had bought new, now the abs and tc lights come out and the brakes will grind and unless you pump the brakes it won't stop. I took the brakes to be changed twice in a year and no results so far. Wife drives the vehicle and now recently has had more problems stopping and being close to crashing. I'm now looking to get rid off this vehicle ASAP. Took it to dealers they had no idea what it was but did charge around 400. 00 dollars each time for new brakes.
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Equinox. While driving 35 mph, the abs light illuminated and then dimmed after one minute. The light illuminated again and did not turn back off. Whenever the contact drove the vehicle, the abs light illuminated. The dealer has not yet been notified due to conflicting hours. The contact took the vehicle to several repair shops and they all stated that they could repair the vehicle. The VIN, purchase date, engine size, and powertrain were unknown. The current and failure mileages were approximately 40,000.
