Cold weather caused the pvc vent line to freeze shut. This freezing causes excess crank case pressure. This pressure blew the rear main seal of the engine. We were driving a short distance when this happened. We caught it before the engine seized from lack of oil but no engine lights or low oil pressure indicators came on. Within seconds of parking the vehicle all of the oil in the engine had drained out. If this had happened on the freeway or at highway speeds the engine would have seized. If this had happened in traffic it would have created a dangerous situation immediately. Gm is aware of this issue with the 2. 4l ecotec motors and has a bulletin out for it. There are no fixes for the issue and if drivers are unaware of it they will blow up their motors. This should be a recall for vehicles that are driven in cold climates. Not just a bulletin that you will only find out after the engine has seized. Attached is a picture of the oil leaking from the rear main seal.

My 2012 Equinox is currently dead at a chevy dealership. Here is the history: � on October 20, 2017 the engine of my 2012 Equinox blew at 109,866 miles when key was turned. The engine blew because was absolutely no oil in my engine and no leaks were present. I did not see any lights saying there was an oil problem. In fact, my dashboard read that I had enough oil before the next oil change was needed. � I recently purchased an oil change on September 15, 2017 at 108,500 miles. I provided the receipt to dealership. � I have always gotten regular oil changes. Recently I had to get oil changes and checks more frequently than gm recommends due to oil missing from my vehicle for no apparent reason or explanation. Because I had to put in so much oil, I would often take my car in for an oil change at a local oil change business or request my father to change/add oil into my vehicle. I travel around se mi and rely on my vehicle for work, so I do not have the time or extra funds to make an appointment take my vehicle into the dealership for monthly oil changes and top-offs (see below). February 10, 2017 - oil changed March 14, 2017 - oil changed April 26, 2017 - oil added may 18, 2017 - oil changed June 1, 2017 - oil added June 30, 2017 - oil changed July 8, 2017 - oil added August 3, 2017 - oil added August 15, 2017 - oil changed August 28, 2017 - oil added September 15, 2017 - oil changed at 108,500 miles October 20, 2017 - engine blew at 109,866 miles, without any indication that engine needed to be serviced, oil was low, etc. In fact, my dashboard shows that I have ample oil life left in my engine before oil needs to be changed. I have a few receipts for these service dates.

Was driving car home to st louis from chicago, started car fine, drove about 1. 5 miles on local road prior to merging onto hwy, and car began to shake and shudder, low oil light came on, parked car, oil leaked out of car.
In January 2017, experienced stalling and smell of fuel/oil throughout vehicle. Towed to dealer and was told rear oil seal was leaking oil and needed replacement. Charged 1500 dollars. On April 12th, 2017 during routine repairs for brakes, was told oil leaking again. Took back to dealership and was told that it is leaking from a different area but it is related to the rear oil seal leak. Further investigation shows that these vehicles have known gasket and seal issues leading to engine failure but gm/chevy has not recalled. They issued a service bulletin in March 2015 #14882 but my VIN number is not included in this bulletin even though vehicle is exactly the same as the other people who are included. Gm and chevy not willing to help me and I am terrified to drive my vehicle.
Constant transmission issues, rebuilt motor and still having issues doesn't change gears or will make constant putt putt noises like its going to quit, goes through quarts of oil constantly, no leaks found but adding large amounts weekly, heating/ac system doesn't turn on all the time I have to turn it off and on and it eventually works. Stabilitrak keeps turning on with check engine light the cars power then gets turned down all the way or off, I have to turn the car off and turn it back on to get back to normal. Very dangerous car stopping with traffic all around. Nothing but headaches.

This car uses excessive oil. I drive several miles a day. I have mentioned this to the local dealer and they gave me a list of items to "fix" which cost several thousand dollars. I have to monitor my own oil because the oil light does not come on when it is real low. It does come on when it is time for the oil to be changed. I have owned several Chevrolet vehicles but this one has caused me the most problems. I have called and there does not appear to be a recall or legitimate explanation as to why the car uses so much oil. I do not have a leak on the ground.
My odometer just went over 30,000 last week. Took it in for the oil change (religiously every 6 months, although I only drive around 3,000 during that time) and the rear engine seal is leaking oil. My warranty expires in one week. We're taking it in for repair before it expires but I'm appalled that an engine with 30,000 miles on it is already leaking oil. The only reason we're keeping it is because it's paid off. My next new car will not be a Chevrolet.

Tl- the contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was taken to several dealers for diagnosis where it was diagnosed that the rear of the engine was leaking oil and it would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 97,000. Wh.
My motor blew due to a oil leak and seized in the middle of traffic I owned the car for 37 days and I owe 18k on it.
Having the oil changed and noted that the oil was extremely low. Took it in again for service in June 2016 and the oil was already low again and had not be driven far. Mileage is at 64,000 miles. There is not a leak. Happens even when sitting still.
My drivers seat was changed twice in six month, still doesn't work the passenger air bag light comes if noting is in the seat. The oil comsumption is ungodly and now I have anoil leak on the passenger side of my engine and I need to add 2 quarts of oil daily. Ecoboost went out within a year of my ownership. Car has been in the shop several times for oil leak and it is stii persistent.
While driving down the road lost all power reduced power and stability control light came on. Just checked oil on December 17 it was full and checked it on December 19 and it didn't have any oil in it and it is not leaking anywhere on the car.
My cars ch ed ck engine light has popped on and off since I git the car in July and the tpms gauge has been on since the first week I got the vehicle. It was raining and my car began to soid initiating thetraction control but my car started to skid and the chrck engine light came on. I drove for 15 mknutes between 35-55 mph and I received an error message about power failure on the car. My car immediately shut down I didnt need an oil change left and I just replenished oil but when I checked it it was empty. I put more oil in the car and scheduled an oil change. The technichian checked my tires and did the oil change and the car appeared to work fine. 3 days letter I had the same issue. And instead of one tire none of my tires are being read on the car and when travtion control is on it rides rough. 5oday alone my car shut off 7 times while I wasnstufk 9j a major highway. A mechanic in my building looked at my crlar and said that there is oil leaking onto the engine block as well.
Engine is consuming an inordinate amount of oil, possibly due to warped cyclinders. I told the dealer it was leaking oil or something because I couldn't keep enough oil in it, they said there was no leak and that I need to change the oil more often. Terrible rattle has existed since shortly after purchasing the vehicle new in 2010. Timing chain had to be replaced once and the rattle went away for a short time. Other mechanics are saying cylinders become oval and then it consumes oil and if you don't notice it the timing chain breaks the plastic guides due to improper lubrication.

I purchased the car in April of 2012 and started experiencing issues with the vehicle within the first 10,000 miles. The car would stall and shut off while in motion either after a short idle while at a stop sign or red light, or even while parking both in drive and reverse. The car will shake aggressively while in motion and lurch forward both while stationary and in motion. The tire pressure could never stay balanced and would constantly inform me of leaking even after replacing the tire multiple times. The windshield wipers randomly shut off while in motion during storms leaving me completely blind. The dealer informed me that there was a recall for the 2013 Equinox windshield wipers but would not extend the recall to my 2012 Equinox with the same issue. The car consumes oil at a faster than normal rate and has required frequent oil changes and filter and has never displayed an engine or oil light to inform me of the issues. The car shuts off while in motion and stationary quite frequently. The car struggled to start one day and after my third attempt finally turned over but only at half power and while attempting to drive back home, the engine collapsed and quit on me. I had the car towed and upon inspection by a Chevrolet dealer and was informed that the engine had completely failed and there was metal pieces in the oil. The car is not working currently as it hasn't been for most of it's life as I continue to make payments on an overpriced piece of metal that can't safely transport my family.
2. 4 l engine fuel pump plunger seal is defective. Allows gasoline to leak into the engine, thinning the oil. This causes engine bearing surfaces to wear throughout(basically ruining the engine). Engine performance deterioration began and symptoms included rough idle, engine knock, poor acceleration and stalling. My wife had a close incident when her car stalled and was nearly rear ended by another vehicle a good friend of mine reported that his daughter-in-laws Equinox stalled out on a detroit expressway - walk home! this was extremely dangerous. My engine was replaced after 5 service visits in August 2012. Today, gm has sent letters to all 2010 and 2011 customers detailing the "may have this condition - could cause engine run-on or rough running engine", which is true, but a very weak and unnaceptable explanation for what really can happen. Gm is "extending" warranty mileage on both 2010 and 2011 Equinox vehicles with this2. 4l engine. This will not take care of engine stalling, potential rear end collisions and customer walk homes. Gm's pathetic approach should not be accepted by NHTSA. This should be investigated immediately, as for the reasons gm prefers to risk driver's safety. Reliability engineering at gm must not exist any longer. Call me!.
The 2011 Chevrolet Equinox I purchased on October 8th 2011 began malfunctioning the first time I started it after driving it home (500 miles) from the dealership. On startup there was a loud 3-4 second rattle coming from the engine compartment (almost as if low on oil). This rattle was evident whether the engine was hot, warm, or cold. I took the car into my local Chevrolet dealership on 10/11/2011. They reprogrammed the ecm and gave me back my Chevrolet Equinox. The next day the rattle was still there. On 10/31/2011 I returned my Chevrolet Equinox to the dealership for the same problem. This time a sound insulator was installed on the high pressure fuel line/fuel pump. The next day the rattle was still there. On approximately 1/20/2012 my Chevrolet Equinox began idling rough, stalling, and throwing check engine lights. I returned my Chevrolet Equinox to the dealership on 1/27/2012. On 2/3/2012 I was given back my vehicle and told that it was fixed and appeared to be running ok with no rattle. I took my new Chevrolet Equinox home and parked it in my driveway to find an oil puddle under it the next morning. In my 53 years I have never had a vehicle that leaked oil, let alone one that does with less than 3000 miles on it. The car is scheduled to go back to the dealership in two days. There are other service bulletins out on this vehicle that pertain to the problem that I am having but the dealership has not completed them at this time. There are also bulletins and information that mention debris and multiple oil changes (this speaks of long term engine damage to me). For $31,000 I would have hoped for a little more than this in a brand new vehicle. Hopefully Chevrolet "steps up to the plate" and makes things right.
The contact owns a 2011 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated was driving approximately 35 mph when the vehicle jerked, lost power and stalled without warning. The vehicle was also leaking engine oil and the timing chain had become loose. The vehicle was taken to the dealer numerous times for the failure. The dealer replaced the crank shaft sensor and the timing chain but the failure was not correct. The vehicle continued to jerk and stall sporadically, without warning. The vehicle was not repaired. Have owned my car now for 6 months and nothing but issues. It sees the dealer more then I can enjoy it. If one more update is done and I am told the problem is fix and really it isn't then my frustration will continue. From the oil leak, transmission decline rough, engine noise,key gets stuck in ignition, fuel gage and starting issues I wish I could get rid of this car and never buy chevy again. If I had not sold my other car I would put this up for sale and walk away. There has to be something to fix these issues as this was not a cheap car. It only has 52 thous miles and I will go back to Mazda where my SUV went to 285 thous with normal maintenance not major issues or my tahoe that I sold at 189 thous and no problems. I wish I had purchased another Mazda at this point. How do we get this problems resolved once and for all? this is crazy!I am not sure if a lawyer is the answer but I would hope that its not. I am sick of getting renals, being late to work to drop it off and shuttle. I bought this to have a car to drive not to take to the dealer over and over. The engine seal was already replaced and the problems are worse or not better at all. Seems to be known problems with 2010 so why is it that they are not getting fixed on our cars. Took my 2007 Chevrolet Equinox to valvoline for an oil change at 4,365 miles. I was told that the front main seal was leaking on the engine and that I had no oil in my engine. I took it back to the dealership for repair. This vehicle has failed in the field under 5,000 miles. I will be requesting that the engine goes back to the plant so that this does not happen to anyone else. New engine will be supplied.
