Door locks fail to work with remote had one replaced in 2010 for the back door under warranty. Now the other side went with only 30000 miles. Warranty is up and it's a hazard because I have to pick the latch up, on the door before I can open it. It's hard for child or older person to do in an emergency. Why should I have to pay a gm dealer to tell me the lock is no good. I think there should be a recall.
I bought my car new on June 30, 2008. In the fall of 2011 I noticed that one of the rear door locks would not actually unlock when using the fob or the unlock button on the inside of the car. Now in June 2012 - neither of the rear doors will unlock unless someone is physically in the car. I have two small children - both in child safety seats and both in a harness, one is still rear-facing. To unlock the doors I either have to put my child in the front seat, lay the drivers seat down, unlock the back door, move her to the back seat and crawl across the car to unlock the passenger door (where the rear-facing seat is located) or my oldest has to crawl through the front and then unlock both doors for me. I called to see how much it would be to fix the issue and was told almost $300 each. I called gm to see if they could assist me and was told that since I was outside of the factory warranty it would be a "wear and tear issue" and the customer was responsible. They offered no assistance. This is a huge safety concern because there would be no way to access both harnessed children in the event of an emergency other than breaking the windows in their faces. I am very frustrated and do not know what to do at this point.

Lack of child safety locks. Was not informed that there was no child safety locks and I have 3 children that ride in this car. Had to find out the hard way when driving down the street and to my surprise I heard the warning sound and seen the light flash that a car door was open. That was when I turned to see my son opening the door. Highly recommend a recall on this to have the locks installed. Was completely shocked that this was not included but yet it's shown as a family style car.

Consumer is complaint regarding the absence of child safety locks on the rear doors on the 2003 Chevrolet Impala. Consumer's child fell out of the back seat, hit her face on the bottom of the door frame, then fell face first on to the rocks which had to be hand picked out of her face. While her face on the ground the automatic closing doors were closing on her legs, preventing her from removing herself from this horrible position. Notified gm about the car not have child safety locks on the rear doors.
Bought Impala 2003 the trunk would not open properly, returned to have fixed, said it was working. It was not working properly. During warmer months the back doors would not open, had to open from front door reaching around to back. They noted nothing wrong with them. . My warrenty ran out, two months later passanger side back door handle broke off in my hand. 6 months after the other drivers side back door handle broke off in my hand. This seems to be a big problem, very very cheaply made. The front door handles at times stick and are also hard to open. This isnt a isolated incident, all the handles seem to have the same problem I am waiting for the day I cannot open any of them. Chevrolet has ignored my complaints. The gears inside the front door panel was never oiled. Overlooked, too quick to make and mass produce. I am very very unhappy!.
I own a 2003 Impala. Ever since I have owned the vehicle I have had problems with the door locks. The first time I had a problem all four doors locked on their own. The first time this happened my grandson was locked inside on a hot summer day. My dealership in conjunction with gm has tried to fix this several times, without success. In addition to all doors locking {has not occurred recently} sometimes the doors do not lock when the vehicle is put in gear. The driver side door locks sometimes from just closing the door. I do not beleive I can not get more information on this problem. My dealership admitted the had another gm vehicle that the doors locked and unlocked while the vehicle was being drive down the highway. I also have a friend , that had problems with a gm vehicle doors locking and unlocking while driving.
While driving 65 mph the driver side door opened without warning. The dealer stated the door latch failed. Please provide additional information.
Driver's door would not unlock by key or electrical device. The technician replaced latch assembly. Ph.
