I returned from picking up my grand daughter from school which is about 2miles one way. Once at home I turned off my car went inside to get paper work and noticed it was time to get my son from his bus stop, which is right around the corner from my house. . . As I turned on the car I noticed/smelled smoke inside the car, so I turned it off and got out, I called out to my kids and my daughter told me that I have to pop the hood, I was afraid. . . So my daughter poped the hood and then we saw the small fire, so my daughter grabbed the water shoes and attempted to put it out and my other daughter called the fire department and then a ball of fire fell to the ground up under the car. . . Then she put that out. . . So as they were calling the fire department, I had to run around the corner to get my son from the bus stop, as we were on our way back, the fire department was coming. . . . So they checked it out and in hooked the battery and checked to make sure the fire was all the way out. . . Told me that the car was unsafe to drive, cause it may spark a flame all over again and be worse then what just happened. . . Prior to this I have have small problem's. . . Like my dome light stop working a year in half ago, I tryed to change the fuse, but every attempt they burned out to the touch, so I gave up. . . Then my front light would keep burning out ever month or two. . . To wear it melt the yellow covering of the bulb and melts the area were the light bulb sits in. . . To were I replaced the whole front light cover. Then recently my back break light went out. . . I thought it was the bulb or fuse after changing them, come to find out it was break relay switch. . . So I had it replaced in July 2015. . . And also within a year I had to replace my starter, luckly its under a lifetime warrenty . . . . Then shortly after that I got my oil change ect. . Done. All this happened 6 weeks before the fire.
I was driving as normal with no incident, parked went into home and came out 10 minutes later, car would not crank, as if battery was dead. . Went back in to get a multi-meter and checked battery, showed 12. 3 volts. Went back into car and it cranked right up , no hesitation. Next day went to get my grand-daughter (2 years old) and parked at her home. Loaded the baby-seat, and went to start car, dead battery symptom again. Jumped the car from my daughter and went tom walmart to have battery checked. Battery and charge system checked fine. Tried to start the car after test, acted like a dead battery again. Walmart tech said looks like a bad starter motor. I purchased a new starter and installed. Cranked on first hit. Checked charging amps while running, 13. 4 volts. Went 25 miles to town. Parked and after 2 hours came back to car and would not crank. (turned motor once then click click. Click. ) got a ride home and checked internet for probable cause, seems like hundreds (thousands) have the same situation. I feel the anti-theft system is cutting off power to car. I tried the fix that I found, lock, unlock, lock unlock car with key then wait 10 minutes and crank the car. It worked. I pulled away from my lodge and went down the road. Stopped, made a right turn heading for a traffic light and the car died in the middle of the road. Could not turn the steering wheel, no electrical signs other than anti theft light flashing on dash. Tried repetitively to start the car but again just click click. Click. If I had been on the thru-way, it would probably been an accident. Further search on internet shows this a major problem, but no recall is found. Why???.
1. My 2005 mailbu has been failing to start when I turn over the engine. My remote car starter went out. 2. I bought it in Nov,2010 until now Feb, 2011 it has had about 5 failures to start. 3. I bought a new battery and so far it has worked but my remote control start does not work still or any of the remote control features.
I had my first problem when I purchased the car. It would jerk & felt it was moving on it's own. Then the lamps would go out and I was replacing the bulbs every month. Then my key starter has failed two times after replacing them. The driver seat has calapsed on the left hand side. The rear seat handle to raise the seats up and down has broken on both passenger side. My lights have burned out on the front driver's side you can see the residue on the cover. The chairs was not scotch guard protected as stated they are very stained even when I tried to was them. In ready some of the others it appear as though mu care had all the defects of my counter parts.
I have had numerous problems with the starter turning over even when the car starts and sometimes it still wont start. The dealer says it normal and after it gets miles on it then it will stop. . . It now has 52,000 miles on it and still does it. I also have had to have it in the shop every couple of months to have it lubed in the front axle which I have talked to other mechanics and they stated that it should not be needing it ever few months, if I don't do it then everytime I turn left or right there is this horrible popping sound from the front end. I also am having wiring trouble with the car, the front blinker wont work no matter how many light bulbs I put in it, it wont work and even keeps melting the plastic on the bulb itself.
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu. When turning the steering wheel, the contact heard a popping sound. The failure began six months ago and now it is causing the power steering to fail. The failure was very subtle at first, but now the power steering fails for days at a time. The air conditioning would activate on and off, but now it does not work at all. The dealer stated that the power steering module and air conditioning resistor needed to be replaced. The contact also stated that the control panel is warm to the touch after driving for some time. The vehicle is currently with the dealer and the repair will cost over $900. The current mileage was 70,000 and failure mileage was 50,000. Updated 09/10/08. The consumer stated the shocks went bad, the tie rod ends had to be replaced, the cd became stuck in the cd player. The rear calipers had to be replaced and the starter worked intermittently. Updated 09/12/08.
I just purchased a 2005 chevy Malibu maxx LS and im having intermittent starting problems. It appears to happen more when I've been driving with the air conditioner on and I stop the vehicle. The car will crank for a long period of time like its going to start but will not start initially. After a while it does start and then appears to be normal. I've checked the starter, alternator, and the battery all checks out good.
My vehicle is a 2005 chevy Malibu maxx. The vehicle doesn't always turn over. I have had my vehicle in the shop a couple of times to determine the problem and the chevy dealer can't figure it out. I will try to start my vehicle but it doesn't always crank over. It will chug a lot and then stall out. Other times it will chug and act like it will stall and then turn over. Sometimes it takes 2-3 times for me to try and get the vehicle to start. I called my service department at the chevy dealer every time it happened and the only common factor was that it was happening every 800-1000 miles approximately. It didn't matter how cold or hot it was, wet or dry. It has been awful! nothing has been replaced on the vehicle to try and fix the problem with it starting. My can has just over 32500 miles and is still under warranty. The most recent time was late September 2006. I am not sure on the exact date that I called my car dealer. I also took my vehicle in on 9-12-06 for a popping sound in the steering when turning. We found out that the center steering shaft was broke. It was replaced. There was a problem with the interior front blinker not working but the exterior did. Then shortly after the left front blinker blew.
2005 Malibu maxx, starter assembly: sometimes difficult to start, especially after running the air conditioner. Problem started about 3 years ago, occurred since then about 40 to 50 times. I retired 18 months ago and do not drive as much now than I di while working. The problem persists despite new battery and not running concurrently the following:air conditioner disk player, windshield wipers, lights. All the systems always checked out ok, no problem was detected.
My 2005 Chevrolet Malibu, sometimes when trying to start the vehicle, it fails to start until attempting 2 to 3 times before vehicle engine starts, this is a continual problem. Turn signal today did not work, until after I had to shut engine off and restart it before turn signals would work. Vehicle has a tendency to pull to the left. Starter doesn't engage properly.
