#14 - Cruise Control problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Malibu
The car involved was a 2007 Chevrolet Malibu. On my 2007 chevy Malibu, the cruise control will shut off by itself going down the road, the brake lights work backwards by step on brake they are off, foot off brake the lights are on. The steering wheel will lock up and have to shut car off and restart to get it to unlock and idling the car the steering wheel shakes and while driving down the road it shakes also. The part of the fuel pump that controls the gas gauge no longer works. I have taken to the dealer and they dont know of any recalls as of yet. But I have researched and have found this to be common problems, so why arent there any recalls?. This cruise control problem happened on April 1, 2012.
#15 - Cruise Control problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Malibu
The vehicle having this issue was a 2007 Chevrolet Malibu. Brake lights are working backwards! when brake peddle is pushed the break lights do not come on. When you are not pressing the break peddle; the brake lights are on. Cruise control doesn't engage and the gear shift is very difficult to move into place. Of course the brake light situation is the most hazardous!! after multiple shop visits, attempted fixes and even a call to gm; (which they lied about never having this issue on other makes/model/years) there was a recall in 2009 for Malibu's that had this exact issue and supposedly all gm dealerships were to know how to fix this issue should this "problem arise in other models". Out of the 5 dealers I called explaining my issues not one knew how to fix the problem. Did a lot of research on my own and explained it to a dealer of how others had fixed the issue. That worked and fixed every one of the problems I was having. Now, in March 2013 the issues are starting again. First it starts with the gear shift being very hard to shift gears into place. Then the cruise stops engaging. Hopefully the brake light issue wont happen again. It was Aug. 10, 2012 when this cruise control issue occurred.
#16 - Cruise Control problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Malibu
The vehicle involved is a 2006 Chevrolet Malibu. While driving vehicle I was being followed by my daughter who thought I was riding my brakes. It turns out that the brake lights are going off when the brakes are applied and coming on when brakes are released. This also affects the cruise control as it will not work when the brake lights come on. This is a very dangerous issue. People driving behind me don't know if I'm stopping or not! there are countless numbers of people with this same problem and the dealerships don't have the answer to fix it. This should be a recall if there ever was one!. This problem occurred on June 28, 2012.

#17 - Cruise Control problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Malibu
The vehicle involved was a 2012 Chevrolet Malibu. Crash was involved with the Chevrolet Malibu. My wife was driving east down hwy-40 toward salina, KS. She had the cruise control set on 60 mph. She began to have a epileptic seizure (she was cleared by her doctor to drive prior to this incident) at that point the car began to slowly drift of to the right side of the road. The car drove over a culver, the rear driver side of the car struck at concrete form and sent the car rolling of into a field the car rolled four times. After the fourth roll the car rolled back on to its wheels and continued to drive due to the cruise control still being engaged and drove 100ft before coming to rest once it struck a concrete fence post. At no time did any of the air bags deploy nor did the cruise control disengage. The vehicle has a crash response system threw on-star, at no time did the crash response activate. This information was provided to me via the saline county sheriffs. My wife only suffered minor cuts and bruises. This cruise control issue occurred Oct. 4, 2012.
#18 - Cruise Control problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Malibu
The vehicle involved is a 2008 Chevrolet Malibu. This vehicle is having issues with the brake lights illuminating without pressing on the brake pedals. When the brake lights come on by themselves, trying to use the brakes when needed (ie slowing down, stopping) shuts the brake lights off, which could cause a major safety issue for the persons in the vehicle as well as persons in other vehicles around my vehicle. It also takes what seems to be some force to make the brake lights come back on. Sometimes shutting down the vehicle and restarting it solves the issue for a short period of time. The vehicle is also having a cruise control issue, which I am assuming is directly related to the above problem. The cruise control does not want to stay engaged when turned on. It seems this only happens when the brake lights illuminate by themselves. This is also another safety issue for the persons within the vehicle. This vehicle is also having an error that comes on advising that the traction control is off and to service the esc soon. This light comes on for no reason that I can determine. The error code that comes on is c0131. I have searched the internet and have multiple people (more than 50 at this time) that I have found that are having the same exact issues. This is a very high safety concern, that I am unsure on why this hasn't been recalled as of yet. I can imagine there are way more people out there who have just had this issue fixed on their own instead of taking their time out to report to the NHTSA for their review. I would appreciate some sort of contact to be made by this department to myself. Thank you for your assistance in these safety issues. It was 07/01/11 when this cruise control issue happened.
#19 - Cruise Control problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Malibu
The brake lights on my daughter's 2009 Chevrolet Malibu come on while she is driving & her cruise control stops working. She took her car into the dealer & 2 other people were there with the same complaint. The service dept. Said it was fixed but the same day as she picked it up, it happened again. While driving down the highway @ 70 mph with the cruise on, the brake lights come on and stay on until she presses the brake pedal. The brake lights go out while she is applying the brakes & come back on when she releases the brake pedal. Also, she also can no longer set her cruise control. After the vehicle has been parked for a few hours, the cruise & brake lights work properly. Anyone following her, especially @ night, might assume that she is stopping while driving & driving whilst stopping. I am concerned that this could cause a fire if the problem is electrical in nature, (both taillight bulbs have recently burnt out or shorted out & been replaced). I am very concerned that this could cause a serious accident. This cruise control problem happened on 08/01/2011.

#22 - Cruise Control problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Malibu
The car involved is a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu classic. The VIN of this vehicle is 1G1ND52F15_. I'd just entered onto the freeway and was going about 55 mph when my car began to accelerate at which time I attempted to brake but the brake pedal would not move. I thought that maybe there was a malfunction with the cruise control so I turned it on then off again several times and each time attempted to brake but the pedal still would not move and while at the same maneuver with cars on the freeway. I ended up exiting about 4 miles down the road using an exit with a long exit ramp. As soon as I exited I put the car into neutral and it began to jerk but slow down some but not fast enough as there were cars stopped at traffic light at the end of the ramp and there was not much time left, so at that point I put the car into park which caused my passenger and I to be thrown forward and the seat belts tightened around us. After a few minutes I restarted the car and it began to rev up faster and faster so I immediately called for chevy roadside assistance and the car was towed to a nearby dealership. This occurred on yesterday afternoon and I am awaiting a call from the dealership to inform me of why this happened and to repair my car. It was Wed., May. 10, 2006 when this cruise control issue happened.

#23 - Cruise Control problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Malibu
My daughter's 2004 Chevrolet Malibu accelerates at different times while driving. (the cruise control is not engaged!). Most times it has been sitting in a hot parking lot and it happens while driving normally (35 - 50 mph). She has had to pull off to the side of the road, put both feet on the brake, put it in park - it still accelerates. She had her car towed to the dealership and they didn't find anything. It occured again a few more times since then. It happened again on July 30 while driving home from work. She immediately called the dealership, had it towed there, and also contacted gm. They did not find anything wrong again and made her feel like she was ignorant. The service manager had a black box installed, where if it happens again, she can push the button and it will record the instances. She has had people riding with her when it happens and they also will attest to that the incident occurred. She is afraid to continue driving her car and we don't want her to experience or cause an accident. She may not be as lucky this time even though she has the"black box" to record the incident. We don't want to risk our daughter's life for a machine. Please let us know what else to do. Connie cronin (mother). This problem occurred on Jul. 30, 2004.
#24 - Cruise Control problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Malibu
The vehicle identification number (VIN) of this Chevrolet Malibu is 1G1ND52J93_. The consumer states that on 2003 Chevrolet Malibu the cruise control was still active even when the driver had his foot on the brake. The switch on the steering wheel was turned off and the cruise was still activating and speeding the car up. The consumer put his foot on the brakes several times trying to get the car to stop. The consumer finally was able to get the car to stop, but he had to put the car into neutral. The car had to be turned off completely. It set for about 5 minutes and then vehicle restarted. The car sat for a few minutes and then the car was back to normal. The consumer called the dealership and checked to see if there were any problems with the car, and the dealership had not ever heard of this happening before. The manufacturer has not been contacted at this point. The speed was 65 mph and that was with the driver's foot on the brake. This issue happened on Sunday, Sep. 4, 2005.

#25 - Cruise Control problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Malibu
The car involved was a 2003 Chevrolet Malibu. The vehicle's vehicle identification number (VIN) was 1G1ND52J43_. Stuck accelerator: on 4/22/08, took foot off gas pedal -- car did not decelerate and maintained 47 miles per hour for 0. 86 miles. Made sure cruise control was turned off. Rpm's still stuck at 1. 5. Proceeded through a green light and car continued at 1. 5 rpm's for the next 2 miles. Approaching a 2nd intersection, I decided to pull off to the side of the road to be able to turn off the engine, but there wasn't a shoulder; so applied brakes to turn on to quieter side road. Barely made turn. Had brakes down hard and car still traveled at 20 miles per hour. Hit emergency brake and car slowed to 5 mph. I then put it in neutral and turned off the engine. Took it to spur chevy for repair. They found the prior owner had work done per recall campaign # 04v528000. Nothing came up on their scan test, no fault codes. Cruise control checked out ok. They diagnosed it as the top of the throttle body needing cleaning. This is the 4th time the throttle has been cleaned in the 1 1/2 years I've owned this vehicle. Prior 3 services performed by the seller (barry Dodge) on 8/7/07, 6/5/07 and 4/5/07 were requested as the engine routinely idled at 1500 rpms. The 4/22/08 incident was the first time the brakes weren't able to stop the car. The engine was acting sluggish in the weeks prior to 4/22. The oil change wasn't due for another 1000 miles (barry Dodge or valvoline). I don't use synthetic oil. I always add fuel injector cleaner after an oil change. I prefer sunoco gas and use their least expensive grade. This issue happened on 04/22/08.

The car involved is a 2002 Chevrolet Malibu. Cruise control disengages by itself at any given speed after driving a mile or so. The vehicle was a 2001 Chevrolet Malibu. Vehicle identification number (VIN): 1G1NE52J81_. Car repeatedly fails to maintain set speed and accelerates rapidly without warning which almost caused several accidents. I had dealer look at the cruise control and they said this is normal on this model. #28 - Cruise Control problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Malibu
The vehicle involved is a 2001 Chevrolet Malibu. Was driving car just pulled off from a red light making a left turn and car started to pull forward then could not steer myself went off road almost into trees then jerked itself left pulling back to road and onto oncoming traffic then stopped was able to drive home slowly w/ hazards on. 2nd incident was driving and car started to pull /jerk forward fast tried to put on brakes and was very difficult to bring car to a stop almost felt like was not going to stop w/all my pressure applying to brakes was still hard to stop car. All 4 incidents were similar in that car kind of took off on it's own and was not controllable as far as steering or braking. This car is in local Chevrolet dealership for last few days for them to find/correct this problem our daughter is driving this car and it's not safe right now for her to drive. The dealership can not find the problem. First they thought anti lock brakes had a glitch, or the transmission, but car is not doing this when they take for short drives and they can not pin point this problem. ,but there is most certainly a problem. I do not want my child to get hurt or worse driving this vehicle b/c no one can detect the problem. Also car had a burning rubbery/like a belt smell before at least 2 of these incidents. All belts check out ok. No problems. I have a relative that had a chev van that in last year or so car basically took off on it's own at a speed of 50mph. Could not stop vehicle was putting all weight pressure on brake car finally came to a stop. Prob wound up being a computer chip in transmission triggered the cruise control computer chip transmission had to be changed . Please check into this to see if related to our issue. Thank you. This issue happened on Jul. 28, 2007.
#29 - Cruise Control problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Malibu

#31 - Cruise Control problem of the 1998 Chevrolet Malibu
The car involved was a 1998 Chevrolet Malibu. VIN of the vehicle was 1G1NE52M9W_. A totally unexpected malfunction of cruise control while set at 60mph, traveling up and down hilly stretch of us route #301 northbound nearing va route #3 the transmission down-shifted, engine accelerated to maintain set speed (as usual) when highway leveled the vehicle suddenly continued to speedup rapidly. . 65+70+75. Driver instantly applied brakes w/ normal pressure then even harder until she was standing on the brake pedal w/ both feet. Several times she pressed the cancel control selector, still no real slowing down. As both front and rear brake overheated rapidly smoke and sparks were seen by other motorist, two of whom tried to overtake them and hand signaled to pull off the road which she was soon able to accomplish on a wide grass shoulder where she turned off the ignition+++stop!! at long last. All three (3) adult women were greatly stressed but relieved to be safe. Her rear seat passenger had called 911 on her cell phone when they realized the frightful dangerthey were in and as a result three (3) different police cruisers arrived almost instantly from the county sheriff and va state police. Several witnesses were interviewed for more details. The vehicle is a 1998 Chevrolet Malibu 4dr. V6. The car was less than 4 months old, driven only 4,000 miles by the dealers wife, until my daughter purchased it. She continued to have it routinely serviced and maintained there so there is where she requested the tow truck driver to haul it to the next day at a cost of $400. Subsequently their service manager and mechanics ran diagnostic sequences as well as several road tests and were unable to reveal any abnormalities in the cruise control or accelertorperform-ance functions. However all four (4) wheels brakes were badly burned and warped. Repairs would cost an estimated $1,100 to $1,300. Our questions include the following: (1) is this event an isolated rarity? (2) what can cause such a dangerous failure? (3) why hidden?. This problem occurred on Jul. 18, 2009.
