Chevrolet Malibu owners have reported 12 problems related to engine head gasket failure (under the engine and engine cooling category).
I have a 2003 chevy Malibu and I had to get a gasket replaced due to the possibility of anti-freeze leaking into the oil. I've been told the problem will happen at about 77,000 miles. One person created a website about this problem. If not fixed it would cause massive problems for the car.

Engine gaskets failed allowing coolant to mix with the oil in the engine. No check engine light. 1998, Chevrolet, Malibu, 66,000 miles. Informed by mechanic 3rd Malibu he has seen in a month for same problem, cost $1500. 00 for repairs, why no recall or replacement. Researched this sight and found numerous complaints of same problem. I am very upset that an american car company cares this little for its consumers. Chevrolet knows this is a problem and refuses to discuss it openly. Considering legal action.

Engine overheating, also the turn signals are erratic, when they do not work I have to turn my emergency flashers on, then off, and the turn signals work then. As far as the overheating goes, I took it in for repair (over $350. 00) they said they found water in the oil and replaced head gasket. It still is not fixed. This car has 45,000 miles.

Engine gasket failure in a 3 year old, 52000 mile car---spoke with several mechanics--apparently is a common problem with this engine. Why no recall?.
Since I have owned this car I have had to change the brakes 10 times. I have had to replace the rotors twice. I have had to replace the calipers on both sides in the front and the wheel bearing on the passengers side once I have had repeated problems with the brakes since I purchased this car. In August of 2001 I had to replace the head gaskets as anti-freeze was leaking into my oil. My anti-lock brake light will come on out of the blue while traveling at speeds of 50 mph I am becoming very concerned about this matter. I have spoke to about 35 Malibu owners and they are all having the same problems. One owner had only 10k miles one her car at the time her brakes failed.
Motor gasket seals failed.
