Chevrolet S10 owners have reported 27 problems related to brake abs warning light (under the service brakes category).
Our abs light keeps coming on and when it does the abs don't work. It comes on whenever it wants. It is the same issues as the 2000 are having and they have a recall. It recently caused the back wheel not to move at all. We were told the spring inside the module is going out. It also afftects the air bag from going on. Also, the ignition won't work the truck won't start. It takes several tries to get it to start. We were just told that it's the starter. The seatbelt locks intermittenly and won't let me move.

My 2001 S10 Chevrolet pick up abs light has been on for ever and the brake shops and the tire store mechanics tell me there are a lot of Chevrolet trucks with this problem. The repair estimates I have received range from $1000. 00 to $1500. 00. After internet research I have found this is a big problem and it has to do with two solder points in the abs control circuit board at the abs head. Some folks take this unit apart and solder these two points and they work/repaired the problem, sometimes not. . Is general motors fixing these problems??.
The emergency brake is missing the teeth for holding the brake in place. Also the abs light is always on and they say it is the master that needs replacement at over $1,200. This is only a danger if using the cursor control on wet pavement which I never use due to the abs not working.
Abs on a slightly bumpy road, caused accident. I had plenty of time to stop but the abs kept kicking in for no reason making me slide right into the guy. Truck is still damaged, 2200$ worth of repairs needed.

During rountine operation, after applying the brakes. The emer and abs warning lights illuminated indicating a failure of the abs brake system. After checking with my local dealership, I eas informed this is a common failure of the abs control module and to repair the system it would cost appx 1,200. 00. The very next day the lights went off and remained off for several weeks. Brakes operate normal, its impossible for the consumer to determine the exact extent of the failure and to what system. Also consider this to be a systemic problem with gm s series vehicles according to the local gm dealership.
Within the last couple of weeks whenever I am coming to a stop at slow speeds, less than 10 mph, my anti lock brakes do not allow the vehicle to stop. I have gone into a number of intersection and pass stop signs. This happens in reverse or drive. I have removed the abs fuse and have not had any problems. Now my abs light stays on but the vehicle stops. The dealer said that the front hub bearing assy's are loose but the longtime repair shop I always go to can find nothing wrong with the bearing assy's. I think there is rust and corrosion on the brake sensor mounting surface and have a copy of a TSB to give to my garage to hopefully try and correct this potentially dangerous problem.
: the contact stated the abs warning light illuminated and there was an increased stopping distance while applying brake pressure at various speeds. There is a NHTSA recall, # 00v055000, regarding the antilock brakes. The vehicle was not inspected by the dealer. The VIN was not included in the recall. Additionally, the tailgate support cables corroded and fractured without warning. The contact replaced the tailgate cables. There is NHTSA recall # 06v066000, regarding the tailgate hinge and attachments. The VIN was not included in the recall.

Seems as if when I come to a complete stop, the bakes lock up or do not catch. Car-x said they couldn't find the problem. The abs light keeps coming on and they don't know where the malfunction is. This problem almost cost me to crash a couple of times when parking in a parking lot and my brakes do work correctly. Any help on this matter will be greatly apprectiated. Thanks.

At around 45,000 miles, the abs light went on during travel. I went to a brake shop and they informed me of a problem with s-10 brakes. I called the dealer where I purchased the truck and they said there was no recall yet. They did tell me there was a problem with s-10 braking systems and I should wait until I receive a letter. I used the internet to check and see if there was recall on my truck. The information I read was the final letters would be sent in Dec. 2000. As of now, I have not received anything. I called the dealed and they gave me a price of $350. 00 to fix the problem. I do know there is a abs problem with 2,400,000 trucks. How do I find out if my truck is part of the recall. The truck stops fine, except in wet weather. If the road is wet, the brakes lock up.
