Chevrolet S10 owners have reported 16 problems related to brake light on (under the service brakes category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
I was parked ideling when the engine conked out. Cooled down and started. Got on 10 at 60 mph and the abs brake light came on and the speed dropped instantly to abour 30. Twice onthe way home did the same, then conked out. Tried to drive to shop and had to be towed. They replaced the cam sensor and acts mostly okay. But every so often the abs light comeson and the speed drops dramaitacly then reocoers. There is not a code beingput in the system telling them the issue why but there was a code one abs sensor is turning on. It is like the abs system is engaging without me hitting the brakes and then cutting off. Again this only happens sparaticly. Will be taking it into the dealer ASAP. Note again no indicator the cam sensor was bad or anything else. Updated 08-20-14.

My abs and emergency brake lights have been on ever sense I have bought the truck (mid 2014) and I can't seem to figure out why. I have read several places that say that some of the solder points in the abs module have probably cracked and need to be repaired if it throws a certain code (and mine does). Haven't had the time or money to fix the problem as my truck is my daily driver. Have noticed some slight pulsing in the brakes when stopping, but not enough to annoy you. The lights on the dash will annoy you though. I have also been chasing several vaccum leaks. One was by the brake master cylinder and another (from inside the cab) sounds like it's right above the transmission housing at the back of the engine (where you can't see). It's so bad that when I first start the engine and start to drive at 1/2 throttle, it has absolutely no power, but then picks back up again after about a 1/4 mile with no power. Because of the vaccum leak, I'm guessing, it sounds like I have a turbo on the truck from inside the cab. If you turn the radio off, you can definitely hear it.

I backed out of my driveway. Began slowly traveling down the hill that I live on. The brakes completely failed. The brake warning light was not on prior to this occuring. The engine also stalled. I had no way to slow or stop safely, as the parking brake cable was rusted and did not work. I made it to the bottom of the hill. Ended up driving off of a small embankment causing damage to the front bumper and other external areas in the front. The hood and driver side door are no longer sealing very good. A repair shop had to replace much of the brake lines due to failure caused by rust. The mechanic also found fuel line damage due to rust and replace them as well. I could have easily been injured or died that day, or have caused injury or death. Why has Chevrolet not been required correct these problems?.

2003 Chevrolet s-10. Brake lights stay on. Replaced the switch and it fixed it only a short time. Many complaints on the internet and I know of one other owner, of an s-10 truck with the same problem.
Applied brakes 200+ feet from stop sign. Road surface was bumpy. Abs malfunctioned and gave no braking. Stopped vehicle with hand brake with slight overshoot of stop line. Removed fuse from abs unit and have driven since with manual braking ignoring dash warning lights indicating that abs wasn't working. This was a problem noticed prior to this incident and occurred only when brakes were applied on bumpy surfaces.
Brake light and abs light come on and stay on for a while and then go off. After braking and rolling over a small bump in road at stop sign pedal loses pressure and stopping becomes hard. I rolled past stop sign and was lightly struck on passenger side door. I have investigated this problem and I am not the only one to have experienced this problem.

Abs brake system continuously becomes inoperable and the light comes on with the red brake light. The dealer says it trash in the system and doesn't think it needs to be replaced. Now the lights stay on all the time and inspection is due. Due to this manufacturer defect, the part cost $900. 00 and then labor, job will be $1300. 00. I have a 2000 Ford windstar van with the same problem. Is there something that can make the manufacturer pay for the repair? this is a closed system that has never been touched or serviced.
Intermittently brake light illuminated on the dashboard. As a result, the brakes applied by themselves, resulting in extended stopping distance.
While driving the abs brake light appeared on the dashboard panel.

Abs brake light illuminated, indicating a malfunction within the system. When applying the brakes, pedal wentto the floor, causing extended stopping distance. Emergency brake light also flickers.
While driving on highway at 75mph anti-lock brake light came on and stayed on until vehicle was turned off. Contacted dealer, and they have contacted the manufacturer. Part has been replaced once, but still continues.
Anti-lock brake light is on intermittently since Feb. The anti-lock brakes don't work when they should; such as on slick pavement, but will kick in consistently when I am turning and applying the brakes during situations like manuvering into a parking spot. The road conditions can be bone dry and no speed is involved.
When driving the truck between 55 and 70mph and when it's wet the brake light comes on, and the brakes activate on and the truck slows down. Took to the dealer, but they can't find the problem.
Brkaes: when driving and the highway is wet and attempting to slow by stepping on the brakes lightly, right wheel hangs, abs brakes kick in and it turns the steering wheel to the left about 30 degrees. This sends vehicle into the next lane of traffic, dealer says this is the way the brakes are suppose to work.
Owner is having a problem connecting the third brake light for new cap purchased for the 1998 s-10 zr2. Requesting any information on proper procedure.
