Chevrolet Silverado 1500 owners have reported 25 problems related to air bag light on (under the air bag category).
I was entering I-75 interstate ramp and moving along with traffic and about 70 mph, the door locks started going up and down on there own, the instrument cluster needles started sporadically going up and down then they show no signs of anything, the airbag light came on along with the chime sound, the stability control light came on, the truck lost a little bit of power when trying to accelerate, I did smell a burnt wire odor. I have replaced the battery and alternator and still the problem exists. This has happen twice before this incident. The stability control light came on and the truck ran really rough. I took it to my local Chevrolet dealer ship and they told me that the number 8 cylinder had oil leaking into it which I see no signs of blue smoke coming out of the tailpipe and have been driving it for 5 months now with no problems except what is going on now with the electrical system. I have been researching the electrical problems with this year truck and it seems to be a wide spread manufacture problem. I have also seen pictures of the same year truck with the same problems that are described above and this ladies truck burned from the dashboard all the way to the front seats. A total loss. General motors needs to address this problem immediately before someone dies. Recall recall recall!!!.

My truck is well maintained , at approx 40,300 miles, my service air bag light came on for no apparent reason. I drove for a short time knowing that my air bags were disabled. A friend and I located an impact sensor that was bad. I believe that it was a safety problem and should have been corrected by gm.

Our 2007 chevy suburban was parked in out drive way, after a severe hail storm in killeen, TX we took the car to get the hail damaged repaired, upon completion of the repairs the air bag light came on the instrument panel. Simultaneously, on the news there were reports of air bags malfunctioning on gm vehicles. We are a family with teenagers and I am afraid this air bag is a extreme concern. The vehicle has never been in any collisions or accidents that required any major mechanical repairs. The vehicle has been taken care of without fail. I have a strong feeling the air bag issue is a manufacture malfunction.

Service airbag light came on. Took it to dealer said impact sensor was bad and airbags would not work if in a frontend crash. Truck has only 73000 miles on it. Cost $350. 00 to $400. 00 to fix. Dealer said they had a lot of this problem. Why have there been a recall.
The air bag service light and is lit as well as the service center saying it needs service, also has the same brake problems the 2007 and up silverados where recalled for with the failure of the front abs sensors. The abs problem could cause an accident at low speed because everytime you stop the abs system activates and pulses until stopped at 15 to 20 mph and increases stopping distance. The air bag light is because of a sensor failure in the front end area and requires replacement. From what I read on the internet these are well known safety issues with the model trucks. The other problems with the premature failure of brake lines that have corroded, and the check engine light being on for the ever well known problem of the vacuum solenoid near the full tank. These are constant problems with this yr and other models at gm. They should be recalled.

Vehicle has service airbag light and message on the dic indicating a faulty air bag safety system. Upon further diagnostic it has been determined that the driver side front airbag impact sensor is faulty disabling the airbag safety system. This part is $250 from the dealer and as a safety item is known to be faulty too soon.
Air bag light just came on an had it see a dealer told me I had both sensors in the frount of the truck bad and wanted to charge me around $850. 00 to replace them I didnt have that kind on money to spend they told me it wouldnt effect the running of my truck but if I get in a wreck my air bags proably will not work is this not a saftey problem gm should take care of they thousands of trucks like mine with the air bag light on an not air bag want work if they wreck I can only hope that they are a eecall on this before anymore people get hurt or kill that could be pervented if gm would do whats right and fix the problem.
Service air bag light came on and off a few times over 2 days and is now on for no apparent reason.
One day after sitting in a parking lot the "check air bag" message came on with air bag light. The past winter had been particularly wet and cold for ohio. After research online, I found that the front driver side air bag sensor was deformed and causing the problem. Apparently the design can allow water into the sensor, but not drain out. Hence, the water froze inside the sensor, expanded and damaged the sensor, rendering the air bag system inoperable. Part number 15103522. Further research revealed that the part has been replaced by another part number - 10370149. Unsure if this new part corrects the lack of drainage or not but according to the online research, it just might. Contacted chevy authorized service and they are not willing to replace the part at their cost since there has not been an official recall. I was put on hold for 5 minutes waiting to learn of the part price, at which point I hung up. There are numerous online reports of this problem and being that it is a life safety issue, one might think that chevy would be interested in not incurring more lawsuits than they already have against them.
Service airbag light comes on when vehicle is started and comes and goes throughout the drive. After discussing with friends found out there are approx. 5-10 other vehicles of the same model and around the same mileage in my area with the problem. If you search the web, there are a lot of trucks with the same problem. Not an isolated incident!!! the problem is expensive to fix and sounds like a money maker for the dealerships!!.
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving, he heard a noise under the dash board and the air bag light illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection and they stated that the censor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and they stated that he needed to take the vehicle in to get it repaired at his expense. The failure mileage was 42,500.
Air bag light has come on due to a faulty impact sensor, a part which will cost approximately $200 to replace. Even though I would consider this a major safety issue, I cannot afford repairs.
The service airbag light came on,and I had it checked, was told the front sensor was bad. Called the chevy dealer and was told they only have to be replaced if in a crash. I've had wiring problems and a recall on the blower wiring. I think Chevrolet should have to check into the problem, because on the internet there are a number of owners with the same airbag problem. Sounds like a safety issue to me. Chevrolet said for a price they will check it. They make it sound like it's the owner's fault, and the more money they can get the better. Sounds like their motto is (money before safety) something needs to be done to help the consumers.
Vehicle taken to dealership to have campaign work done ( 09184a oct. 09 sdm corrosion in states having snowfall and salt applied to roads) after receiving notice in mail. No problem with vechicle at this time. 2 weeks after work, vehicle (multiple times) started exhibiting intermittent service air bag light. . . On for a few minutes then off. Around oct. 2nd, 2012, service air bag light came on and now stays on upon start until vehicle is turned off. Gm and dealer contacted and recommended I have system diagnostic done. . . At my cost ($90) to determine problem. I opened a case file with gm (# 71-1118146997) and will take my vehicle to an independent mechanic to download codes and determine which item is faulty. I would have the dealership that did the work perform this, however I have had issues with them in the past regarding "needed" repairs. I suggested that if they run the diagnostics in my presence and the codes come up with something other than the sdm I would gladly pay for the diagnostic and repair, however, if the code came up with the sdm being the problem, they would pay for the diagnostic, replacement, and rental if needed. . . . . They would not accept this. The sdm in my vehicle is part number 25823557. . . Gm has now substituted it with part number 22759740. I own this vehicle (no loan/liens) and other than this issue have been very happy with it. . . . This vehicle is only driven approx. 15k per year, mostly to and from work and I follow all recommended service intervals. Thank you for your time.
My 2005 crew cab 4x4 chevy silverado air bag light has come on at 75000 miles. From my short one hour online research there are numerous gm suvs and trucks from 2003 - 2011 with this same issue. Most gm certified repair faculties are not able to correct this ***major safety issue*** without significant cost to their auto owners (average cost $400-$3000). Common malfunctioning part - impact sensor 15103522 (average cost of part $100; average analysis cost $200; average labor cost $87 a hour). I did call gm customer service department with no resolve. Case number 71-999598205. I should not have to pay additional cost for a common manufacture safety issue that will result in a cause of death or serious injury. Please use our tax dollars wisely in having gm repair this issue at no cost to the owners. (who we, including you, are the taxpayers that bailed out gm. . . Why??? thought that is what chapter 13 bankruptery is for?) sincerely.
The contact owns a 2011 Chevrolet silverado. The contact stated that the check air bag light illuminated and the front driver and passenger side air bags deployed independently. The contact was not involved in a crash. The dealer inspected the vehicle and stated that they could not do anything until the manufacturer inspected the vehicle. The contact stated that the front driver side and passenger side seat belts had been stuck in the lock position since the air bags deployed and were non-operational. The failure mileage and current mileage was 6,700.

On my chevy truck the service air bag light came I was advised by chevy service dept that if the light is on bags will not deploy.
Shift indicator , does not light up, various panel lights flash off/on when driving at night, transmission with only 97,000 miles. Google searched alot of same type vehicles have this problem. Do not know what gear its in. . . . . Transmission went out going down highway had to pull off. . . . . Also service airbag light came on. . . . . . Too many things going wrong for a newer vehicle, truck is taken care of very well. . .
Service air bag light came on and truck was parked almost immediately. Approx 2 hrs later driver air bag deployed while vehicle off, sitting in driveway. While at dealership passenger air bag deployed smashing windshield. Gm hired independent to investigate, determined it was defect in truck and authorized repair. Truck still not fixed as of today. Gm unable to attain harnesses at this time for dash airbag. Windshield on order. Gm refuses to give us copy of resolution stating its property of gm and not for public knowledge.
Service air bag light came on, did not know why, I never had any problems before. But was not sure of what could happen. Took it to the dealer and they were as surprised as I was. They told me that the "inflatable restraint sensing and diagnostic module" failed and needed to be replaced. Since I did not know what could happen I had no choice but to replace this part at the cost of $800. 00. They did give me the defective part.

My service air bag light comes on all the time. It has happened 9 times in the last 8 months. The dealership has changed some of the censors. The dealer has received a code for the air bags not working but can't and won't do anything till it is happening and they can check the error code. It happens all different times and in different weather conditions.
Airbag light, 53,000 mi on vehicle, code b0103.

The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. While driving approximately 55 mph the service air bag light illuminated on the dashboard. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where he was informed that the air bag connection failed and it was repaired. The failure has since recurred twice. After the second occurrence the vehicle was taken back to an authorized dealer where it was repaired. It was not repaired after the third occurrence. The failure mileage was 12,000 and the current mileage was 65,000.
I have a 1500 chevy, silverado. I was notified by ?? because the dealership I purchased the vehicle from has closed. The recall stated a problem with the instrument panel cluster. But, because we had more than 70,000 miles it was not covered. We had to pay over $300. 00. We were not notified in a timely manner and should be reimbursed. In 2006 when the odometer and the temp gauges was sticking we did not have 70,000 miles. The air bag light is still stuck since 2006.
The contact owns a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. In August 2005, while the vehicle was parked, the air bag light illuminated and would not turn off. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the wiring at the brake hinge was repaired. In 2010, the air bag light illuminated again. The vehicle had not been inspected or repaired. The failure mileage was 30,283 and the current mileage was 47,292.
