Chevrolet Tahoe owners have reported 103 problems related to air bag (under the air bag category).
The dashboard on my Tahoe has began to crack. It originally began to crack on the drivers side and has spread up over the control panel. Last week I noticed a crack on the passenger side that leads right to the airbag. Now that the airbag is involved I definitely feel that this is a major safety hazard. Seeing the widespread complaints about this happening to others I feel this should be a recall. $70,000 vehicles should not have plastic dashboards that crumble away.

While driving on city streets several days ago I heard a loud popping sound as if an object has hit the windshield. After stopping to inspect for damage and not finding any glass cracks or chips I drove on. Shortly thereafter I noticed a noise coming from the dash area and found that the center portion of the dashboard at the radio speaker was loose due to fact that the tab which is designed to hold the center fastener was broken by the weight and movement of the speaker. Upon further examination I found that the dashboard was cracked at the upper left hand corner of the airbag compartment on the passenger side. The vehicle was taken to a local gm dealer this morning due to safety concerns with regards to the air bags either being deployed accidentally or in the event of a real accident, damage to the air bags due to the broken edges of the plastic dash material. Furthermore, personal injury could occur as a result of flying debris from the loose, broken or brittle plastic pieces immediately adjacent to the air bag compartment. According to the local dealer they are and have been aware of these type of failure to the dash components for several years (dating back to 2005) on this vehicle but to date they have issued no bulletins or recall notices. This information is also documented here on your website where I was able to find at least 15 similar complaints filed with NHTSA within just the last 24 months most of which identify the exact same location of failure to be the upper left hand corner of the dash adjacent to the air bag compartment. It seems obvious that gm has no desire to address this issue on their own without being pushed to do so. Your attention to this issue would be greatly appreciated by many, many gm owners.
The dashes on a significant number of 1500-3500 series Tahoe, suburban, yukon, sierra and silverado model vehicles from gm are cracking all over the dash. The cracks are located specifically around the passenger airbag causing a safety issue for vinyl shrapnel being launched at passengers in the cabin upon airbag deployment. This is similar to the crisis faced by Toyota. Gm is neglecting the safety of its customers by allowing this to occur. The number of vehicles experiencing the exact same cracks, down to the size and exact location, constitutes a design flaw in the location of the mounting points which is causing uneven distribution of weight as well as point stresses. If this piece was properly engineered it would distribute stress and flex properly to avoid the plastic mode of failure to which they are currently experiencing.

Vehicle dash cracked on the passenger side. A straight crack in the dash going from the air vent/defroster to the passenger air bag. A complete crack in the dash exists 2-4 inches long.

I believe this is a safety hazard due to the possibility of an airbag injury.
I noticed about a month ago that my Tahoe dashboard was cracked on two spots.
Shortly after buying my used Tahoe a crack developed near the corner of the passenger airbag, forming a "y" shape which leaves a small, sharp piece of potential shrapnel if the airbag were to deploy. I fear this issue could cause potentially fatal outcomes due to the likelihood of the brittle plastic becoming flying shrapnel in the event of an accident and airbag deployment. This is a well reported and well known issue with all gmt900 vehicles. Gm needs to recall these dashboards!.
There are numerous cracks in the dashboard around the airbag. I am worried if the air bag will prematurely deploy, or will not be able to deploy as designed with the cracks. My vehicle is a 2008 Tahoe ltz. There are countless people with the same issue, with the crack in the same place. I have no idea what is going on with the electrically system and what the cracks might be doing.
About couple months ago we notice about an 8 inch long crack on the dashboard above the cluster driver side. And I first thought it had to be sun damage. So pretty bum about it. Then recently about a week ago watching the local news on tv. There was a similar issue about crack dashboards. And then checking on this website there's multiple very identical issues. So now in hope there's a recall coming soon. And also notice the inside door handles the chrome is coming apart leaving really sharp edges. So I notice there's similar complaints in regards to this door handles.

Dashboard cracked at left corner of aorbag as well as cracking above the left side of the instrument panel. The crack over the airbag is what concerns me in that my aorbag may not deploy correctly in the event of an accident or may cause significant harm from chards of plastic being sent at me. . .
Hi the dashboard has 2 cracks in it. One on driver side and one on passenger where the airbag would deploy from. I feel it is a major safety issue wit my children in the car if an accident was to occurs the plastic dash being cracked could cut or kill one of my children. Thanks.

I took my Tahoe to herndon Chevrolet to be detailed. Within 24 hrs after the detailing, there was a crack in the dash touching the airbag and to over the steering wheel.
Crack in dashboard near passenger airbag.
Cracks appeared on the dash around the passenger airbag and above the driver side instrument cluster.
The dashboard on the passenger side around the air bag has cracked significantly and the area on either side of the air bag cover are bowing up. It appears that where is a significant risk of the dashboard fragmenting if the air bag were to be deployed.
Dash board is cracking for no apparent reason. It has cracked on the drivers side as well as around the area where the air bag is kept. My fear is that because of the cracks the air bag could possibly deploy with no warning while driving and cause me to have accident or to cause an accident. There have been numerous reports on the gm model 2007 - 2014 Tahoes, yukons and trucks that the dashboards are cracking in the same areas on all of the vehicles around the air bag.
Dash board has cracked directly behind drivers side gauges. Also has cracked on passenger front left corner of dash air bag. This is defiantly a safety issue plastic shrapnel could be project if the bag is deployed. Please recall this problem.
Noticed cracks in dashboard. 1. Above instrument cluster approx. 6 " vertical to driver , 2nd is at the upper left corner of passenger air bag. Safety concern is flying projectile (s) of dash plastic to driver and or passengers if air bag(s) are deployed.
Hit a tree on entire pass side and no airbags deployed.

2002 Tahoe lt was traveling south on two lane road when right front tire hit soft shoulder. Car left road and traveled about 200 feet before hitting a power pole. Car struck pole just behind left front tire. Impact sheared the pole off and the car rolled onto driver's side, then slid about another thirty to fifty feet. No airbags deployed. Driver struck face on steering wheel, cutting forehead and received other facial injuries. Left leg was broken in four places and driver was pinned in car for one an one half hours. The vehicle was a total loss.
Dash around airbags is cracking and failing. It's a very common problem and gm refuses to rectify. Conceivably a piece of dash could break off during an airbag deployment.
Dash cracked where the passenger air bag is located. I fear that the air bags will puncture if deployed or the passenger wil be injured due to dash pieces being projected at them.
I have a crack in the corner of my airbag. After research I have noticed that there are many people complaining about cracks in their dashboards either on the corner of the airbag or steering column. There has also been a facebook page started about this problem. It is gm yukon and Tahoe cracked dashboards. Looking at all the pictures posted there is a bit shocking. You can not tell one picture foe another because they all are cracked in the same spot. After contacting gm I was told they have many complaints daily but gm will not issue a recall in the dashboards. My concern along with many others, is if this could some how affect the performance of the airbag. I currently do not allow anyone to ride in my front seat out if fear of the airbag.
Cracked dashboard on passenger side at airbag.
Multiple cracks on top of dashboard on both driver and passenger sides near airbag.
