Chevrolet Tahoe owners have reported 129 problems related to air bag (under the air bag category).
The plastic dashbord has cracks on the edge of the airbag unit and over the top of the speedometer unit. There is also major cracks on 30 to 40 percent of the flat portion of the dash. These cracks are sharp and severe. The cracking started and has eventually gotten worse over time to the point of a safety concern. If the airbag is deployed there is great risk that the dash board may come apart and kill or injure the passenger and others in the vehicle. I have read hundreds of complaints on the internet in regards to this safety issue. Please investigate to find out if a repair or recall is needed. As an engineer I believe gm should make the repair.

Three dash board cracks appeared on the dash overnight. One crack near drivers dash area under windshield, two others on passenger side of dash by the airbag. Concerned this could cause issues with airbag deployment or cause proper operation issues. This Tahoe was perfectly fine, came out to car overnight and noticed the cracks.

Dash has cracked around passenger air bag . If airbag is deployed could send pieces into passenger. Seems is a common problem .
The dashboard has cracked near the air bag on the passenger side which appear to be a safety issue if it may cut or impair the proper inflation of the airbag.

The dash on my Tahoe has broken right next to the passenger air bag. It has actually broken a piece of in the air bag. It is my understanding that this is a common problem with these vehicles as the dash is not structurally sound. My fear is that if the air bag is deployed that shards of plastic will be embedded in the passenger. This is the only defect on the dash and it appears to have happened at the weakest point.

The dash board is cracked in three different spots and one is right at the passenger air bag. The dealership will not fix cause it's not under warranty. I feel like this is a safety hazard and gm needs to fix this issue.
While cleaning the dashboard I heard a loud noise and noticed it had cracked in two places. One over the drivers side "hump" and the other at the air bag. It now has three cracks.
My dashboard is cracking in two places now. My concern is that the crack near the passenger airbag will affect it's effectiveness in a crash. I've contacted the dealership & gm and been told they will not fix it.
My vehicle has developed two cracks in the dash one by the instrument panel and one at the left upper corner of the passenger airbag. This is a safety hazard as it may affect the deployment of the airbag. This vehicle has been garage kept since I bought it in 2012 and it has 83,000 miles on it. Gm is refusing to take responsibility and replace this manufacturer defect.
Driving along one day at 45 mph and the dashboard just cracked. Mine has cracked over the instrument panel. I have a friend who has the same crack as well as a crack over the air bag on the passenger side. The cracked dash is a known problem that needs to be corrected, I am also concerned what may happen if the air bag goes off with what is obviously a brittle dash.
The dashboard on my Tahoe has began to crack. It originally began to crack on the drivers side and has spread up over the control panel. Last week I noticed a crack on the passenger side that leads right to the airbag. Now that the airbag is involved I definitely feel that this is a major safety hazard. Seeing the widespread complaints about this happening to others I feel this should be a recall. $70,000 vehicles should not have plastic dashboards that crumble away.
While driving on city streets several days ago I heard a loud popping sound as if an object has hit the windshield. After stopping to inspect for damage and not finding any glass cracks or chips I drove on. Shortly thereafter I noticed a noise coming from the dash area and found that the center portion of the dashboard at the radio speaker was loose due to fact that the tab which is designed to hold the center fastener was broken by the weight and movement of the speaker. Upon further examination I found that the dashboard was cracked at the upper left hand corner of the airbag compartment on the passenger side. The vehicle was taken to a local gm dealer this morning due to safety concerns with regards to the air bags either being deployed accidentally or in the event of a real accident, damage to the air bags due to the broken edges of the plastic dash material. Furthermore, personal injury could occur as a result of flying debris from the loose, broken or brittle plastic pieces immediately adjacent to the air bag compartment. According to the local dealer they are and have been aware of these type of failure to the dash components for several years (dating back to 2005) on this vehicle but to date they have issued no bulletins or recall notices. This information is also documented here on your website where I was able to find at least 15 similar complaints filed with NHTSA within just the last 24 months most of which identify the exact same location of failure to be the upper left hand corner of the dash adjacent to the air bag compartment. It seems obvious that gm has no desire to address this issue on their own without being pushed to do so. Your attention to this issue would be greatly appreciated by many, many gm owners.
The dashboard has two cracks. The first crack, extending from front to back on the passenger side from the front edge of the dashboard back into the cover (left front corner) of the passenger airbag, appeared the week of June 29, 2015. The second crack began approximately 3 weeks later on the driver's side of dashboard. It started on the right side of the dome portion covering the instrument panel. The crack progressed approximately 1 1/2 inches and split into a "v" shape and is continuing up the dome. Our safety concerns are twofold. First, is the crack at the airbag going to interfere with it's proper function or pierce it upon deployment. Second, if we're involved in a wreck, will the sharp points of plastic dash involved in the driver's side crack cause injuries if the forces of a collision turn them into projectiles. This problem with gm/chevy dashboards is widespread and it must be addressed and rectified before someone gets injured due to the company's negligence.
Cracks have formed in the dashboard for no reason. It started with one crack above the instrument cluster, which continues to worsen, and now one has formed by the passenger airbag, which has me concerned for safety should the airbag need to deploy.
The dashes on a significant number of 1500-3500 series Tahoe, suburban, yukon, sierra and silverado model vehicles from gm are cracking all over the dash. The cracks are located specifically around the passenger airbag causing a safety issue for vinyl shrapnel being launched at passengers in the cabin upon airbag deployment. This is similar to the crisis faced by Toyota. Gm is neglecting the safety of its customers by allowing this to occur. The number of vehicles experiencing the exact same cracks, down to the size and exact location, constitutes a design flaw in the location of the mounting points which is causing uneven distribution of weight as well as point stresses. If this piece was properly engineered it would distribute stress and flex properly to avoid the plastic mode of failure to which they are currently experiencing.

There is a major crack that appeared on the dashboard at the base of the steering section, closest to the windshield.
There are 2 cracks on the dash, one on each side which could cause harm/death to the passengers because of flying plastic should an airbag deploy. I have contacted the dealer and gm with negative results. It was first noticed in April 2015 and the vehicle had less than 32,000 miles.
Vehicle dash cracked on the passenger side. A straight crack in the dash going from the air vent/defroster to the passenger air bag. A complete crack in the dash exists 2-4 inches long.
I believe this is a safety hazard due to the possibility of an airbag injury.
I noticed about a month ago that my Tahoe dashboard was cracked on two spots.
Shortly after buying my used Tahoe a crack developed near the corner of the passenger airbag, forming a "y" shape which leaves a small, sharp piece of potential shrapnel if the airbag were to deploy. I fear this issue could cause potentially fatal outcomes due to the likelihood of the brittle plastic becoming flying shrapnel in the event of an accident and airbag deployment. This is a well reported and well known issue with all gmt900 vehicles. Gm needs to recall these dashboards!.
Dashboard cracked in two places like many other 2007-2011 gm. Concerned of safety issue if airbags were to deploy. Plastic from dash could injure or possibly pierce airbag rendering it useless.
There are numerous cracks in the dashboard around the airbag. I am worried if the air bag will prematurely deploy, or will not be able to deploy as designed with the cracks. My vehicle is a 2008 Tahoe ltz. There are countless people with the same issue, with the crack in the same place. I have no idea what is going on with the electrically system and what the cracks might be doing.
About couple months ago we notice about an 8 inch long crack on the dashboard above the cluster driver side. And I first thought it had to be sun damage. So pretty bum about it. Then recently about a week ago watching the local news on tv. There was a similar issue about crack dashboards. And then checking on this website there's multiple very identical issues. So now in hope there's a recall coming soon. And also notice the inside door handles the chrome is coming apart leaving really sharp edges. So I notice there's similar complaints in regards to this door handles.
Dashboard cracked at left corner of aorbag as well as cracking above the left side of the instrument panel. The crack over the airbag is what concerns me in that my aorbag may not deploy correctly in the event of an accident or may cause significant harm from chards of plastic being sent at me. . .
