Driving home from work on a Thursday at and average of around 65 mph the vehicles rpm's jumped up to 4,000 and it was like it down shifted. I stopped immediately to check for problems and there weren't any visible signs. I proceeded home while the vehicle was stuck in a gear causing me to only travel a max of 45mph. I contacted Chrysler which said there was a recall for my make, model, and year vehicle but my VIN number was not included in the recall.

The contact owns a 2007 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated that the gear shift got stuck in park. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and was informed that the clip that released the gear shift broke. The dealer replaced the gear shift assembly to correct the failure. The failure and current mileages were 86,000.
Vehicle gear shift stuck in park even though brake is depressed. Tried rocking the vehicle back and forth to see if it was stuck in gear, no change. I conducted an internet search for this problem and found that several Chrysler and Dodge products have this exact same problem. Cause: a small pink piece of plastic that has a spring attached to it, which is a gear locking mechanism, tends to break at about 40-60 thousand miles or sooner. There are no Chrysler recalls for this item. The piece seems to cost about $2. 00 for Chrysler to make however, one will pay $300-$400 or more for the dealer to fix. Takes minutes to replace if you know what you are doing. One can find the part online and replace with metal so that it will not break again for about $50. Chrysler complaint line states that they will not fix unless nhtsb files a recall complaint. Then I may get reimbursed for my cost. The pink plastic piece can break at any time leaving the driver stranded anywhere at any time, e. G. The drive thru. , parking structure at night, etc. .

I purchased a 2005 chyrsler Pacifica in 2007 and it had 25,000 miles on it. When the vehicle had 39,000 miles on it I started having issues with the transmission. While driving, the check engine light came on and the car would get stuck in gear (stuck between 1st and 2nd gears). After I shut the car off and restarted it, I could drive it by using the tiptronic shifting system (manually shifting gears). The problem is a sensor on the transmission that costs over $2000 between parts and labor. At 72,000 miles I had to replace the catalytic converter and the front end compenents I. E control arms,tie rods,etc. After contacting Chrysler about the catalytic converter which has a gov't mandated warranty of 80,000 mile warranty, they did give me the money I spent on the catalytic converter part only). Well, the Chrysler now has 104,000 miles on it and it needs another catalytic converter and all the front end parts that were previosly repaired need to be replaced again! that is insane! I looked on the internet and chryskler knows this is a huge issue because their are companies selling this front end repair kit. But since I need the car I guess I have to eat these costs yet again. At 68,000 I replaced a hdmi headlight that costs over $160. 00 per bulb. Soon after I began to smell something burning, and the new head light burned out. I had to replace the bulb again at an additional $160. 00 and this little silver box that the light sits in for $80. 00. Now at 104,00 miles both parts need to be replaced again, and according to Chrysler dealer, this issue has nothing to do with electrical harness, it is not under warranty, and I have to eat this cost too. In my opionion the tickets are cheaper than the part. Many of the Chrysler dealers do not try to help diagnose problem and they remind me everything is out of warranty - great job!.
