Chrysler Sebring owners have reported 18 problems related to check engine light on (under the engine and engine cooling category).
I was crossing 4 lanes of oncoming traffic and my car stalled and died. This was the first time it had happened so I was unsure what to do. Thank goodness I put my car in p and restarted it in enough time to get out of the way before I was hit. This has again happened many times over the last 10+ years of ownership. Funnily enough, as I pulled up to my bank to make my final car payment, the car also stalled. It was too ironic. I have taken it to the dealership which is such a hassle and of course, they can find nothing wrong. Now, my check engine light comes on and then goes off with no apparent reason. Please issue some sort of recall so no one is hurt because of this issue.

The contact owns a 2007 Chrysler Sebring. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start. The battery was jump-started however, the vehicle began stalling sporadically with the illumination of the check engine warning light. I was driving the vehicle on the highway. The etc light came on and the car would not accelerate. Coasted to the side of the road, turned car off, then back on and it ran fine. It has done this at least 30 times since. Now my etc light blinks and car will only go 10-20 mph, slows to 5mph going up any grade. Idle is rough and idles between 1500 and 2000. Sometimes when I first start the car it will run okay for about 2-3 minutes then etc light suddenly come on, car decelerates and I have almost been hit several times. Now the brake light comes on and off as does the check engine light. The dealer does not know what is wrong. This seems to be a common problem with this model vehicle. Chrysler needs to do something before someone is seriously injured or killed. I will never buy another Chrysler product because they will not fix this problem, always say they do not know what the problem is.
The contact owns a 2001 Chrysler Sebring convertible. The contact stated that the check engine warning light illuminated on the instrument panel and the vehicle stalled. The contact was able to restart the vehicle but it continued to stall intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostics but the engine light was off at the time so the technician was unable to diagnose the failure. The engine warning light continued to illuminate intermittently. While driving the check engine light came on and the engine stalled. When tested the engine code came back as electrical short. The dealership where I purchased the car did not fix the problem but cleared the engine code. A few weeks later the check engine light came back on. While traveling at 50 mph, and coming to a stop, the engine stopped running and the brakes failed to stop the car. After going thru a red light another car broadsided my car.

I have a 2007 Chrysler Sebring touring. I bought it used in June 2010. Starting in Sep 2010 it started having issues, (I. E. , engine shut off at low speed or when gas tank was at 1/4 tank, engine would act as if was going to stall when sitting at a stop sign/light then would lurch forward suddenly, and brake light kept coming on). I had the O2 sensors replaced, engine light went out for a couple weeks and came back on. Mechanic then changed wiring harness. This time light was out for about a month or 2 but now will not turn off evn though the mechanic couldn't find anything wrong with either the sensors or the wiring harness. Now they suggest replacing the engine brain which at this time is financially impossible for me. I took the car to a chysler delear shop when the airbag light cam on and I told the guy about all the issues. He pulled up the history and infomed me the car's former owner had same shut off issues at 16k miles and had a new engine installed at 20k miles. Car is having the same issues that should have been resolved with new engine being put in. I've also had to have the brakes replaced after owning the car less than a year. I'm afaid the car shutting off on me is going to get me killed as I've just nearly missed getting into 2 accidents when the engine has shut off on me.
On 7/27 before leaving home, car was serviced by palmer Dodge (roswell, GA ). Explained that I was going on trip from alpharetta, GA-ossining, NY (2000 miles roundtrip). Told dealer car had approx. 85,000 & was willing to rent a car. "please go over car & tell me if I was your wife. . . Would you have me rent a car or take my 2001 Chrysler Sebring convertible ltd. To NY & back. "left the dealership with an oil change & a 24 point safety check w/no concerns about car. We arrived in NY on 7/29 safely (9 yr. Old twins & maltese arrived in NY). On July 31 we drove from the hotel in tarrytown to ossining visited my mother, father graves. While at the last grave the oil light flickered while the car sat running. I pressed gas pedal it went out. We started back to hotel via route 9. , a narrow, 2 lane highway. Got about 3 miles to briarcliff manor when I heard the car make a tapping sound. Despite traffic and no warning. . . No oil light, engine light etc. I make a sharp turn to side street & turned off car. My children are crying, my sister & dog are freaked out & there we are stranded with 1. 5 hrs before my nephews baby dedication. I start the car back up & put the flashers on /drive the car mostly in neutral praying all the way to the entrance to sleepy hollow automotive who quickly told me the engine is shot & the car which I thought was worth at least $5000 was not worth fixing. I called jenkin engines & was told me there are 3 major problems with this Chrysler 2. 7 engine and it would cost $3600 for a reman. Engine & $1800 for labor (minimum)- 3 weeks to fix. . . I was now stranded in NY, vacation ruined, children freaked out. I have read hundreds of other complaints. How in 2010 can an engine "die" with no warning? this is recall cand. & NHTSA should make Chrysler repair or reimburse car owners. My car is still in NY. . . Ga dealer not returning calls. Recom oil too thin? oil sludge? easy to blame owners for oil changes when Chrysler this is your fault. Be responsible.
First is check engine light on. Code say misfire. Second paint is pitting and white areas appearing. Third headlights fogging up.

Vibration felt in steering wheel while in gear at idle. You can also see steering wheel vibrating. Check engine light does not come on. Dealer does not know what causes this.
Rough idle at start-up, check engine light goes on. Replaced ignition wires and spark plugs and continued to do it. Performed DE-carbonization, and its been good so far for 2 months.
I have a 2004 Chrysler Sebring. For 1 year beginning in October 2006, I had a check engine light that would come on and off intermittently. I was unable to bring it to the dealer because it was over the warranty mileage. I have had stalling problems, when I would apply the brakes the cra would either stall or jerk forward. On July 26, 2008, I had to have the tie rods replaced. Since I had the vehicle I also had to have a bearing replaced. I do a lot of highway driving, but, have had vehicles in the past that never had these problems. When I had the tie rods replaced (at sts), they also checked on the stalling. The only thing they were able to find was "dirty throttle plates" which did not fix the situation. At 30,987 miles, my 2004 Chrysler convertible 2. 7l v6 engine seized up while I was driving in the high speed lane of interstate rt 95 in philadelphia, PA. I had just left phila. City and was driving only 5-10 mins when this happened. There was no warning, no engine light or oil light came on. The car just died. Luckily traffic was very light and I could coast safely over to the breakdown lane. Ended up after towing to local shop of pepboys and then again to a 5-star Chrysler dealer, the engine was diagnosed as freezing up due to sludge in oil. Had to replace whole engine at cost of $4,855 on a virtually brand new car. Warranty coverage denied since I could not provide proof of oil changes through receipts.

The contact owns a 1996 Chrysler Sebring. While driving at an unknown speed, the engine warning light illuminated on the instrument control panel. The vehicle then immediately stalled. Several minutes later, the vehicle restarted. The dealer replaced the cam shaft sensor and the battery. The vehicle failed an emissions test due to smog. The dealer reprogrammed the pcm. On February 21, 2008, the vehicle had a second emissions test and failed again due to smog. The failure mileage was 167,000 and current mileage was 204,083.

2005 Chrysler Sebring transmission delays shifting from drive to park. ** answer required***. The engine light had come on, there was a transmission delay from drive to park, if placed in neutral the vehicle would shake and jerks when placed in drive. The mechanic stated that this was normal. The engine light had come on again and the mechanic was unable to duplicate the problem. The third occurrence resulted in an evap leak, due to the gas cap which needed to be tightened. The fourth incident showed a diagnostic result gas leak code of 0441. On the fifth occurrence, the mechanic suggested that the wires were eaten by rodents.

I was driving me car and the engine locked up. I had no warning from the oil and engine lights. I had it towed to the dealer, and they said a bearing in the piston had spun from engine sludge. I saw on line that they are having problems with this and won't do anything about it.
Engine light consistently and arbitrarily came on. This time check engine light is on and vehicle cannot be driven. Vehicle is 1 year old and cannot be driven.
