The dealer also completed a manufacturer recall repair for the ignition switch; however, the vehicle continued to hesitate. While driving less than 15 mph, the vehicle independently surged forward at a high rate of speed and crashed into the rear of another vehicle. The contact sustained a whiplash. A police report was filed. The air bags did not deploy. The vehicle was destroyed. The approximate failure mileage was 75,000.
Engine shuts down completely causing loss of power steering and brakes. No warnings, just dies. Diagnostics reveal a bad totally integrated power module. Recalls issued for multiple models but not mine. I was told, I have all the symptoms but I don't have the flu ! now they want almost $ 1000 to fix it ! it's an established, defective part but they'll let me drive away in it unless I can come up with the money. Chrysler said it's the same part as the recalled ones but I don't have a recall on my model. Ant time any where at any speed, it shuts down.
My wife was driving home late one night from work and the minivan just died while she was driving. When the van was taken to the repair shop, the motor was blown - valve seats all dropped in one of the heads and all of the main bearings in the crank case had disintegrated! since the day we bought this van used with 24,000 miles it had a problem of "using or eating" oil at about 1 quart for every 1,000 miles. When I contacted Chrysler, I was told that this was normal!! I was flabbergasted as I have never owned a car (I've had over 15) that used oil like this minivan did. It didn't burn it or leak, it was being used somehow. Needless to say, it was out of warranty and we were left with a $3,500 bill to replace the motor. When I contacted Chrysler, I got no response. Please check online for a website called repair pal - there are literally thousands more cases of this happening. I find it hard to believe that this is something normal. It seems Chrysler knew something as they came out with a new 3. 6 pentastar motor to replace these ailing motors in 2011-2012 and all newer models. Hopefully there are more people just like my wife and I here who have had the same problem.
While driving in residential area, van would completely shut off (stall) without notice. Radio/dvd would continue. Major problem with the shut off is that there is no power steering and the breaks would not work! it's happened multiple times. The next day the engine light came on. Took to the dealership and the only code was egr valve code. Technician did not connect it to the engine failure. After discussing with chryler, they felt that the egr valve does contribute to the engine failure at low speed.
The contact owns a 2008 Chrysler town and country. The contact stated that while having the vehicle serviced, he was advised that the egr valve needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 75,417.
I have a Chrysler 2008 town and country with 66000 miles on it. While driving my van at approx 35 miles per hour the van suddenly flashed the electronic throttle control light, check engine light, and slippery condition light. The van lost the ability to press on the gas pedal and make it go. It continued to idle down the road, but the gas pedal made no difference on the speed I was going. I idled into a driveway, turned the van off, let it sit for approx 30 minutes, then restarted the van. The van started fine, but while driving it home it did the same thing. I idled the last 1/2 mile home to get the van in the driveway. The next morning I made a service appointment and drove the van to the dealership. It stopped running one time on the drive, which is approx 5 miles away from my house. I again had to stop the vehicle, put it in park, and restart the vehicle. The dealership called and said that it was a wire going to the electronic throttle control that needed to be repaired. I see that there was a service bulletin regarding this issue in the 2010 town and country and didn't know if the same bulletin applied to the 2008. I feel that this is a major safety issue as the van loses all ability to get up and go. Had I been driving on the highway when it lost all power I could have caused a major accident! within the past month we have also replaced the egr valve, the power steering fluid line, and the power harnesses on the door. They are now taking apart the engine because it is making a "lifter tapping" noise.
This is more a drive-ability problem rather than a safety problem. My vehicles check engine light turned on. The code said the egr valve was bad and needed to be replaced. When I went looking for a part I found that there were so many of these failures that the part would be back ordered and I could not be told when the part would be in. This was a known problem back in 2005 and Chrysler never fixed it. Because of the egr failure the vehicle gets poorer gas mileage and produces more pollution.
Check engine light came on. Had vehicle diagnostics test done at local Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep dealer. Bad egr valve to blame. Found out through mechanic and online forums this is a common problem. Also, the egr valve replacement is on national back order by over 6000!!! definitely should be recalled!!!!!.
Egr valve needs replacement after only 55,000 miles/ 88,000 km, check engine light came on. Dealership-only item, quantity 6000 on back-order. Why only dealership item? why 6000 on back order?? fuel economy in low double-digits, causing excessive fuel usage and pollution. Pls help.

Car will just shutoff without warning. Had the car into the dealer several times and they found nothing wrong. We received the safety recall in January 2015 regarding this issue. Contacted the dealer who stated they don't have the parts. Waited and contacted them again in April and they still don't have the parts. Contacted Chrysler Jeep directly who confirmed that the recall is legit and responded with this "thank you for your response. I have confirmed the vehicle does currently have the l25 win module detent ring recall. Regrettably, the parts to complete this recall are not avaiable. We do not have a timefrmae at this point for part avaliablity. I will forward your moms information to your special tyracking team. This will insure you are notifiied as soon as parts become avaiable. We will semd you an email advising your when you can return to the dealership for repairs. We repect your frustration with this issue and thank you for your patience. " this is a safety issue. The car completely shuts off no matter how fast you are moving. Someone could get seriously hurt or killed. How can Chrysler not have the parts.
Check engine light came on, took it to get the code determined. Code came up with the egr valve was bad, dealership stated I was to far outside of my 36000 warranty to get it covered. $225. 00 to replace. Egr valves are defective.
