Failure Date: 03/21/2016

I started the car to leave work, check engine light came on. As I was driving I lost the ability to accelerate above 40mph. While driving 30mph the rpm were at 4,000. I took the car to my mechanic. Map sensor was replace and also transmission selinoid. Check engine light was still on, they went through all trouble shooting. Pcm needs to be replaced. According to Dodge dealership the part is on back order with no eta on shipping. Was also told there are over 200 orders waiting to be filled, people are waiting 4 months to receive the part. My car has been in the shop now for almost 3 weeks. The dealership my mechanic called didn't inform them of the back order, we were told by another dealership when trying to find the part elsewhere.

car   Check Engine Light On problem 2
Failure Date: 03/04/2016

I brought a 2008 Dodge Avenger in March 2016 and shortly after purchasing it, the vehicle stalled while I was driving. It did it several times while driving trying to start it and while in reverse. I notice that when im driving and I slow down or coming to a stop it would kinda shake and I notice that the rpm side dropped below 0 and the car stalled. If I can feel it in time I would take my foot of the brake and let it go up to 1 and hit the brake again and sometimes that would help. I have been to mechanic shops and because the check engine light wasnt on it was not reading anything and ive contact the dealership to see if my vehicle was recalled which it should be because I have a new born and it stall on me in traffic on the freeway while an 18 wheeler was behind me so you can imagine my nerves. This vehicle is not safe and I can't spend a lot of money paying for the none existing problem as I am told. Because I cant afford it please help!!! this is a safety issue and I dont feel safe driving my car. Something is wrong and I can't keep paying people to do nothing about this situation. This is scary, thanks in advance.

Failure Date: 07/28/2015

The contact owns a 2008 Dodge Avenger. While driving 70 mph, the vehicle stalled. In addition, the cruise control failed to function. The electronic throttle control (etc) and check engine warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the power train control module (pcm) needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 70,000.

car   Check Engine Light On problem 4
Failure Date: 08/03/2014

I started my car on Sunday August 3, 2014 and the engine wouldn't turn over, after waiting a minute the car started. While driving the car would not go faster than 20 mph even with my foot completely on the petal. I took my car to oreilly auto parts and had the check engine light read. I had all new spark plugs (based off the check engine light reading) put in the vehicle and I'm still not able to drive over 20 mph. My car is now cutting off at the light and not the highest speed is 20 mph. I keep getting a lighting bolt message and check engine message even though all the codes have been cleared.

car   Check Engine Light On problem 5
Failure Date: 09/19/2011

We were driving on the highway about 65 mph when our electric throttle control indicator light along with our engine light came on. When this happened we did not have a spedometer or rpm gauge. All of the lights that are related to the shifter (park, neautral, drive) also all lit up. The car did continue to drive but had less power. We pulled over and turned the car off. We tried to start it again but it would not start at first. The power locks and truck release would not work either. After about 5 minutes we tried it again and everything worked. The check engine light did stay on but the car drove fine. The engine light is still currently on.

car   Check Engine Light On problem 6
Failure Date: 10/13/2010

I have been having problems with my Dodge Avenger for about 40,000 miles now and have had it into multiple shops without the problem being solved. The electronic throttle control light comes on and off at random times either causing my car to shut off while im going down the road, cause power lag with no acceleration about 45 mph or shifting into different gears, or the engine light comes on along with the etc light and the car will idle very high then very low and repeat the process making the car unable to drive. The vehicle has shut off on me while going down interstate and highways and I've almost been hit several times because of it. I see lots of postings with the same issue but there are no recalls on this issue which dealerships do not know how to fix. I've been told to change the battery, the tpms was messing up, the throttle valve was sticking, improper fuel delivery, and that the car wasn't getting enough air. None of these once fixed were the cause of the car freaking out and now im forced to drive day to day with my son in the car hoping it works well enough that an accident wont happen. I've seen enough complaints about the electronic throttle control that there should have been a recall a long time ago to fix this yet it's been 4 years and still nothing is being done to help make peoples vehicles safe again that they paid for.

car   Check Engine Light On problem 7
Failure Date: 04/20/2008

The contact owns a 2008 Dodge Avenger. The contact stated that the cruise control failed to work and the engine light was illuminated. The failures began on April 20, 2008. He stated that there were recalls on the same issue he was experiencing; however, his VIN was not included. The NHTSA campaign id number was unknown. The failure mileage was 39,000.

car   Check Engine Light On problem 8
Failure Date: 03/15/2007

The contact owns a 2008 Dodge Avenger r/t. The contact stated that the vehicle has been at the dealer for over a month for repairs. He stated that the engine has noisy lifters. The vehicle was taken to the dealer four times and they only replaced the lifters once. The manufacturer stated that this is how the vehicle had to be manufactured due to the thermal expander. While driving 65 mph, the transmission engages in an automatic neutral drop. The engine races above 5,000 rpms, which is not recommended. The failure has occurred twice. The transmission also jumped into reverse while driving at low speeds. The vehicle has been at the dealer four times for the transmission. The dealer called the contact and stated that they could not find anything wrong with the transmission, however, they do acknowledge the failure. The transmission failure began in April of 2007 and has continued ever since. The current mileage is 2,500 and failure mileage was 7. The check engine light illuminated, there were broken bolts and studs. The shifter would not return to park. The rocker arms, valve cover, lifters and heads were replaced in the engine. Updated 08/08/07.
