1 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 06/06/2024

The tcm needed to be replaced, it would flash service transmission on the dash and then say "shift into neutral and then drive or reverse" when attempting to shift it says "gear not available. " there is a recall on other cars for this exact reason but my VIN number was not included. It would lock up in the middle of the road or when in park. It endangered not only my life but also any passengers. There were no symptoms prior and it started around June 6th, 2024. After replacing the tcm my car had to go into a full sleep cycle before the message would stop appearing. The vehicle was serviced at midway auto in kearney nebraska, where they also replaced my shifting cable bushing due to another recall that did affect my VIN number at the time that it started displaying the message. The dealership has already replaced the tcm and expects me to pay for it even though this is a well know common issue in these cars, so we'll know in fact that there is its own recall that for some reason does not apply to my specific vehicle and I would like to know why, especially if it is a manufactured defect.

2 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2024

On January 1, 2024 I was getting in my car to go to work. My car would not shift into drive, or reverse. It said "gear not available" after about 30 minutes, it finally went into drive. While driving to work, my car shifting into neutral on it's own. I took my car to a local transmission shop where they said it was the dual clutch that needed to be replaced. So it was replaced. The issue still persisted and they said it was the hydraulic actuator. I took it to my local Dodge dealership where they said it the tcm needed replaced. So that was replaced. They are now saying it is the hydraulic actuator and odd shift actuator. My car is still at the local Dodge dealership because I can not afford the extra $8000 to fix it. I had no codes show up before January 1, 2024. I have reached out to Dodge and stellantis about all of the issues and trying to receive financial help. There were recalls in 2015-2016 for the tcm.

5 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 04/08/2021

I was driving down the highway when my car made a loud noise and jerked really hard. My car started slowing down and would not accelerate. The rpm's just kept riving up but car was not going any faster. It has done this twice in the past week. The dealership put it on the computer and ran some tests and cleared out all codes and updated some stuff and told me to let hi know if the engine light came back on. Well on the way home the engine light came back on and did the same thing and jerked really hard making my car slow down and not accelerate. 7 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 07/24/2020

The transmission shifts into neutral on it's own, for us it only happens when we stop at a traffic light. Then it's displayed to shift to neutral and then to drive or reverse, this may have to be performed two or three times before the car move, then we only have the even or the odd gears depending on witch clutch activates. This happened on a four lane suburban road with a speed limit of 50 mph and will happen when the transmission gets to full temperature. This vehicle had the recall 15v-542 performed 08/25/15. After several tcm failures abusing the transmission prior to the recall, the transmission now needs to be replaced. The shifting to neutral issue first happened July of 2014.

8 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 07/11/2020

Recall r42 was completed on may 7 2018, as of today the vehicle is at the dealer with the same problem as the original safety recall both the dealer and fca said that the 2 year warranty on the tcm has expired by 2 months. Apparently the safety recall has not been fixed and the issue continues. They want me to pay for a new tcm. I feel that the fix they did originally was not sufficient to repair the problem and Dodge should address this issue by taking care of the same problem.

I have had so many issues with this car, my life has been put in danger on countless occasions. The 2013 Dodge Dart should not be on the road, it is a danger to others and to its drivers. I bought my car in 2013 and from day one I always felt that there was something wrong with the way it shifted. It is now 2019 and for the past four years the car has been in and out of the shop for transmission issues even after the car was taken in for the transmission control module recall. The car has revved up to 80 mph on its own while I was at a complete stop, if I had taken my foot off the brake I would have driven in to the intersection. The cars rpms have gone up to 7,000 while I was at 50 mph, the car has problems shifting back down while coming to a slower speed on the freeway, the car has stalled out in cold temperatures and shut off completely, the car has lost all boost while stepping on the gas driving on city streets, the car is 6 years old 67,000 miles and needs the entire transmission replaced one week after my 6 year warranty ended. This car is defective and unpredictable, not only has this car been a financial burden but it has put mine and my child's life in danger and the dealer can not fix the reoccurring problems.

19 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 08/25/2018

The powertrain control module was reprogrammed and the transmission control module was reprogrammed under warranty on August 29, 2013. March 13, 2015 the check engine light was coming on and the dealership had noted that several modules have stored code for lost communications with tcm module u0101-00. Pcm needed flash update which was done. Tcm was replaced and reprogrammed. On Saturday, August 25, 2018. We then had problems with the car shifting into gear when leaving parked position. Could not reverse or go forward. We could physically put it into gear but the car itself would not shift properly. It then went into limp mode. On Sunday, August 26 it happened again while parked. We drove it to crowfoot Dodge on Monday, August 27. As we were bringing it in the car went to limp mode as driving. So we left it where it stopped. We called the Dodge mechanic and he told us that he thought the problem was the transmission control module. They needed to order the part but it should be fixed on Wednesday. The part was not there on Wednesday nor Thursday. We then called on Friday and was told that they replaced the transmission control module and the car still had some internal transmission problem. On the statement they wrote that the actuator for 1 clutch and 3 was faulty and because it was integrated into the transmission the whole transmission needs to replaced for $11,000. This car's warranty expired on June 29, 2018 and 140,000 km's current read. As the transmission control module has been a problem previously while we were still in warranty.

While sitting in traffic with my family the car suddenly went into neutral and will not come out of neutral I read on the internet there was a recall on the transmission control module and it explains with the explanation given for the problem the same thing that happened to my car but when I called Dodge/Chrysler my VIN was not on the recall but I had the same problem this is a safety matter I was only 20 yards from the railroad tracks luckily one was already going by or the car would have been on the tracks any help with this situation would be helpful thanks.

22 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 08/02/2017

Takata recall: there has been multiple issues with this car including loss of power, rapid shifting, transmission failure, stalling, and overheating. The check engine light and transmission light have come on multiple times, the tcs and passenger airbag lights have come on and off at the same time. This car has had 2 pcm's replaced, 4 tcm's replaced, 2 transmissions (the last one replaced less than one week ago), 2 sets of spark plugs and coils replaced, timing belt, serpentine, and water pump replaced. The transmission, serpentine, timing belt, and water pump were all replaced on 7/21/17 and now the car is presenting with the same issues. These problems started with the first owner (and were not reported to me) on 8/6/13 and started with me on 4/16/15. As of 8/2/17 I have the same whining noise in the car (which has been diagnosed as the transmission multiple times now), the transmission is unable to shift or lags or shifts too quickly, I can floor the gas peddle and the car will not accelerate, when I let off the brake the car surges forward, the check engine light is back on, and the cruise control is not functional. This car has been in the shop more than I have driven it and Dodge keeps repairing it and those repairs last less that one month and the same problem happens again and again. This car is unsafe to drive and Dodge has yet to remedy the situation. The car is set to be back in the shop this week and it is currently not drivable and a hazard to myself and others on the road. I would not be able to accelerate to move out of the way of anyone or anything due to the transmission and issues with this vehicle.

24 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 12/26/2016

When parked on an incline, the car experiences failure in shifting from park to other gears. The gear lever will physically move to other gear positions, however the car will not switch from park to other gears. We have had to manually push the car forward to get it to switch out of park. It seems to be some kind of failure between the sensors sending information to the transmission control module which is not allowing the vehicle to calculate gear shifting correctly. This has happened on 3 separate occasions.

25 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 12/08/2016

26 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2016

I purchased my Dodge Dart at 21,000 miles. 30,000 miles car shuts off on highway. Total power loss. Dodge was able to limit the problem however ran rough and at about 45000 miles car shifted hard now at 70000 Dodge tells me it's the transmission valve body. 3,000 dollar repair. At this point car is not worth 3000. Still shuts off completely while driving. Transmission control module is recalled for the 2013 Dart however not my VIN# ????? I see tons of people with the same issues even cases against Dodge for this model. However they are unwilling to help me out with any issues I bring to their attention. Unfortunate. For me.

28 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2016

I started having issues with my Dart 2 years after I bought it, tcm lost communication while traveling 70+ mph down highway had to tow car. Had tcm flashed(repair 1), drove 2-3k mile more, happened again, brought it to a different dealership said they replaced tcm (repair 2, before tcm recall was issued. ) about 10k miles later had to bring it back, had tcm flashed again (repair 3), about 10k miles later tcm has problem again while traveling 40+ miles down a very busy city street and need to tow vehicle, this new dealership replaced tcm again (repair 4 after tcm recall is issued, 4k miles later car is now throwing check engine lights for bcm, and pcm which I am told is connected to the tcm. I am in the process of filing a lemon law claim against Chrysler, a three year old car that I paid almost $30,000 should not cause so much stress. I cannot allow my family to be in danger, I have been lucky that neither issue resulted in a car accident. Chrysler needs to buy my vehicle back. I do not wish to talk to them about servicing the vehicle again, or trading them for a newer vehicle as they have lost my trust as a company.

31 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 05/24/2016

This car is 3 years old and we have had to replace the body control module (bcm), and transmission control module (tcm). The check engine light is still on and Dodge is still trying to find out what is wrong with it. Before replacing the body control module the car wasn't starting so the battery was replaced, it turns out the bcm was staying on and drawing power form the battery while the car was off. We were constantly having to jump the car to get it started. After that the transmission started acting funny it would shift hard, shift into low gears while driving on the freeway. Also when first started or stopped at a traffic intersections the vehicle would shift into 4th gear on its own unless in sport mode and done manually. This makes it accelerate very slowly which is dangerous especially when pulling out into an intersection. After replacing the tcm the issue with the transmission is still occurring, it is currently being looked and the cause is still unknown.

32 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 05/10/2016

The car will randomly go into neutral mode, and will not stay in gear while driving. It will say gear not available on the screen. It has done it about 5 times in less than a month. The dealer has replaced the tcm twice, but that does not work. It has been in the shop about 4 times for this one issue. Once in a safe place I can change gears but still says no gears available. Turn off and on the car, and it will not start. Wait 20 min and it might work again, but not sure for how long. If I can get it to start, there have been times I can not get it out of park. The last time it happened was on may 10th 2016 on highway 290 in houston. The car said service transmission, but now I would be costing. If I give it gas the rpms will go up, but the mph will go down. I had to cost it off the freeway since there was not a shoulder to stop on. Once I got it off the freewway, I had to push it to a parking lot. This is what I have been dealing with, and the dealer can't fix the issue. The put in a new tcm on the Dart on 5/10/16, picked it up at around noon. At around 8pm the car had the same issues again.
