1 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 04/23/2013

Date investigation opened: Nov 02, 2005 date investigation closed: Aug 29, 2007 NHTSA action number: ea05018 component(s): power train all products associated with this investigation details 26 associated documents manufacturer: Chrysler group llc summary: analysis of the complaint, field report and warranty data shows that the majority of stalling incidents in the subject vehicles appear to be related to the engine calibration concerns that daimlerchrysler addressed with service bulletins releasing revised pcm software. Analysis of the complaints and odi's survey of owners of vehicles that received engine management software updates under TSB #18-013-05 show that these stalling incidents have the following characteristics: - they occur at low speeds, often during parking lot or driveway maneuvers; - they occur during decelerations, such as braking for a stop sign or traffic signal; and - the operator is almost always able to immediately restart the vehicle. When compared with other safety defect investigations and recalls of conditions that result in stalling during low-speed deceleration with immediate engine restart possible, the failure rate in the subject vehicles is low. Analyses of complaint and warranty data also show a declining trend. Accordingly, this investigation is closed. The closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by NHTSA that a safety-related defect does not exist. The agency will continue to monitor complaints and other information relating to the alleged defect in the subject vehicles and take further action in the future if warranted. 5 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 08/18/2006

Unexpected and immediate engine stall at highway speed caused complete loss of power, including loss of power steering and power brakes. I was able to coast to the side of the road, place the truck in park, and restart. This was a very dangerous situation that could have produced grave consequences. Took the truck to a Dodge dealer would could find nothing wrong. Warranty work six months prior included changing the fluid return filter on the transmission. This service work was a result of sluggish power to the transmission. Truck has also died while driving in slow traffic.

6 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 03/10/2006

Engine surge causes vehicle to lurch. First instance was on March 10th 2006. The vehicle was running, I entered the vehicle put it into reverse and the tachometer jumped to almost 2000 rpms and vehicle lurched backwards then stopped. The second instance was on March 28th 2006 my wife was entering a parking space facing a store and reported stepping on the brake and the vehicle lurched forward jumping the concrete parking block with all 4 wheels, hitting the building then stopping. I believe this really is a problem as I now realize that during the first incident I needed to have the brake depressed to move the gear lever from park to reverse. Maybe related to NHTSA odi id#s 10112496,10125643, 10141521, and 10152704.

8 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 11/16/2005

I have a 2005 Dodge Durango which I purchased 9/10/05. It has a little over 2000 miles on it now. I was turning into my parking lot at work, when all of a sudden my steering column locked up! I was just sitting at the curb trying to put it in reverse, or continue going forward, and the engine would not acknowledge any gear I put it in to. I turned my engine off, restarted it and it "magically" started back up and worked. I immediately parked it and had it towed to the nearest dealership. To my dismay, they stated they'd never heard of such a problem and couldn't figure out what the problem was. I suggested replacing the pcm. They said they could not since it "appeared" to be working fine. I'm very concered about my family's safety due to this problem. I'm scared to even continue to drive this vehicle, because who knows when it will happen again!.
