I went out on Sunday morning 8/21/2011 after having had my 2004 Dodge Durango 5. 7l hemi ,that I had parked since Friday. My husband turned the key and there was a click. Tried again and more clicks. Third try was a loud series of clanking and clicking. Had the vehicle hauled to the Dodge dealership in harrison ar. They informed me the motor had blown a rod. Repair would be $5000. 00. I had been by the dealership a month before and inquired about sudden engine dying while driving. My vehicle hass done this seversl times while at any speed with steering loss. Very scary. I have also fulfilled the earlier recall of having the rewiring of all the vehicle. Was very displeased with the service and times it malfunctioned after having the recall serviced. Please inform the proper personel and inform me of further action to take.

The engine suddenly, and without warning, stopped running. This happens at low speeds, especially when slowing down for a turn. It is extremely dangerous, as the power steering goes out when the engine stops. The date listed is the most recent incident, but this has happened before.

2004 Dodge Durango limited with 91,855 miles. No prior problems whatsoever. Driving down road, malfunction indicator light came on and started flashing, 30 seconds later the vehicle lost all power and would not restart. It had to be towed to service station, where diagnosis was made. There was a hole in the engine block. This should not have happened to a car of this age with this mileage. They advised the powertrain warranty expired at 70,000 miles. However, many have complained about this same issue and it creates a potentially catastrophic life safety issue. Just filed my complaint with Chrysler today and hope that they do the right thing - unless they dont care if I ever purchase another product from them again!.
I have a 2004 Dodge Durango slt with the hemi 5. 7 l. It has 127,000 miles on it. We've taking great care of it! the last time that it was drove it was a great ride, then with out warning went started it up there was loud bang!!! and it started shaking. Had someone look at it and it threw a rod!! I had no warning of this. Yes I've had smll problems with it over the years put a new thermostat in it cause of over heating new brakes it died out on me a few times with no reason so I thought it was bad gas so I started put the higher grade in it and that seemed to stop that. But this no warning!!! I have been reading and there is so many complaints on the same year make and model. Dodge needs to do somthing before someone gets hurt ot killed!! I was lucky I hadnt even left my driveway when it happened!! now I am going to be out thousnads of dollars that I dont have to either get this fixed or a new car. I cant afford that I am still paying on this. Until this happened I didnt know all the recalls that has been on this vehicle. I haven't received any. Now I know why I dont have inside lights we unhooked them cause they wouldnt go off. Come on Dodge do somthing before someone get hurt in this vehicle. Take responsiblity & make a recall!! there is 156 postings on here with the same problems how many more before Dodge does something? I am going to post this website and let others know about it I found it on accident lastnight. Something needs to be done now!! I dont know about anyone else but I can not afford to repair this nor buy another car!!.

2004 Dodge durange w/5. 7 hemi engine. Piston went through the engine when the car was started. I had bought the car with over 60k miles and I put less than 20k on it from the time I purchased until the time the engine went. The car was 15k so we still have a car note on it. I have no vehicle to drive but still making payments. My husband is out of work and we don't have money to replace a malfunctioned engine. This is not normal wear and tear maint. Vehicle looks new and have had all required maint done on a reg. Basis.
I have owned my 2000 Durango since it was new, I have changed the oil regularly for the whole time, I have always done it myself. I recently brought the vehicle in for the "ticking" noise that I've been told since the vehicle was new, "there is no concern" when I changed the oil, it was always clean, no problems. Well, it seems the engine oil had not been traveling through the motor and apparently damaged internal parts to the tune of $2700. 00, when I looked it up online, I learned this has happened to nearly every 4. 7 v8 that Chrysler makes, my computer lit up with the exact same problems, everywhere. Why is it that Chrysler is not responsible for a motor defect that the consumer has no control over? all maintainance had been done on this one, and has been taken care of meticulously. I called Chrysler for assistance, but the response was that of deny, deny, deny and refer the customer to the original warranty, the end! I believe Chrysler should step up and be responsible for their incompetence! I for one would like my hard earned money back for this job, which took me 6 months to pay off to get my car back.
My 2005 Durango has been shutting completely off while I am driving it. This has been going on for approximately one year intermittently. I have had it to the mechanics numerous times and they are unable to locate a problem. I fear for my safety and the safety others as I never know when my SUV will shut off. I have found a website that other people have posted exactly the same complaint that I have concerning their Dodge Durango's. . Read more...
Sludge build up due to improper venting of the oiling system. The engine is blown with only 80,000 miles. Need to either replace the engine or have it rebuilt by a machine shop.
While commuting this morning to work, I was approaching a stop light at approximately 35 mph, as I started to brake, I noticed my brakes were not working properly, at that point I realized my engine had shut off and I had lost my power brakes/power steering. As this has happened multiple times in the past with no warning - as it did this time, I knew I could put my engine into neutral and re-start my engine. Luckily I was not in any sort of serious traffic and had plenty of room to get my vehicle to the side of the road to avoid any accidents. I have attempted to address this issue with the past with Dodge and have had no success. This is a serious safety issue that needs to be addressed.
Engine intermittently shuts off. Sometimes not everyday and sometimes 10 times. Shuts off at various speeds, idling and in drive at a stop light, or going 40 miles per hour. It sometimes restarts right away, and sometimes it cranks and cranks, and about the 15th try it may restart. It cut out 6 times in the parking lot of a mall. The only thing I can think of is that I was parked in the sun on a hot day at the mall, and the engine quit after running for only 30 seconds.
Rocker arm comes off. Researching on the internet this is a common problem. How many people does it take to get killed due to rocker arm coming off and stopping in traffic? I do not understand why this problem continues with no action. I noticed one of the questions on this website ask if there were any injuries or deaths. I guess a number of these must happen before anything is done.

2004 Dodge Durango 5. 7 l hemi purchased in 03/05 w/34 miles on odometer. Problem started with all dash lights illuminating and rpm/speed indicators briefly redlining; power loss followed by temp inability to start. Last incident towed to mechanic who said engine had seized & that Dodge has a problem w/this type of engine. Engine completely locked & needs to be replaced. All recommended maintenance performed prior to failure incl'g oil changes every 3k miles. Checked edmunds. Com blogs & numerous complaints of exact same problem plus over 500 complaints to odi. Out of warranty so Chrysler refuses to acknowledge a problem. Previous occurrence on highway at speeds >65 mph which caused loss of power steering but was able to navigate to roadside without incident.
While driving my 2003 Dodge Durango in which I am financing the vehicle since 2007 April, without warning my oil light came on and the car started to shake and the engine was banging really bad. The engine died on me. , I was stuck on a bridge with 6 children 100 miles from home. The vehicle was well maintained and how could this happen. Now I am stuck paying for a truck that I can not use.
I have contacted the Dodge dealer and they said that the only for my vehicle is the windshield wiper motor. I have the same issues as the only recalls and defects as well. The unintended acceleration that will cause a crash and the idling of the engine while in park and the list goes on and on. Fear for the safety of me and my kids what am I suppose to do. I am leasing this vehicle I feel like I'm paying for a lemon. I can't enjoy life with my kids they are the main reason I got a truck in the first place. Help please I don't know what to do.
I am making a complaint about the 2002 Dodge Durangos. The oil pressure keeps going low and now the engine has blown. It was not time for an oil change and we keep our oil changed as we are suppose to. This would be the second engine we would have put in this vehicle but the first time it was still covered under the manufactures warranty and was paid for by them but now the warranty has expired.
2004 Dodge Durango slt with 5. 7l hemi engine. Engine only has 114,000 miles and has been meticulously maintained. Upon starting the car on 11/20/2009 the engine suddenly without any prior warning broke a rod and punched two holes in my oil pan. After researching this on the internet and contacting Dodge this is a common problem with the 2004 model that was fixed on the 2005 model. Chrysler refuses to repair any defective engines that are out of warranty even thought they admit to the engine having a problem.
2004 Dodge Durango 5. 7 hemi dies when coming to a stop or in reverse happening several times a day for past eight months. Dealer did a reflash but it did not fix it.
The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Durango. While driving 70 mph, the vehicle began to lose power and eventually shut off. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that the engine had seized and needed to be replaced. The current and failure mileages were 100,000. Updated 8/10/09 updated 08/13/09.
Driving along on the way to see my father in the hospital and the check gauge light came on and the oil pressure went to 0 and then back up and then back to 0, and then engine seized up. Now will have to replace the engine, Chrysler should pony up for all these vehicles when they know there is a problem. I will definitely be keeping receipts for this just in case.
