4 Battery problem of the 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 02/29/2012

Hi I own a 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan. Have been having problems for about a yr. Tried contacting Dodge they said they couldn't help me or give me any suggestions. They said because the van has a lot of miles. I went online to research the problem. Apparently a lot of people are having the same issues as me. I did have my mechanic chk it out. He could not resolve the issue after 1wk. It started with a dead battery, the gauges on the dashboard sometimes not working, the ac is blowing hot air or not working at all and the drivers side window not going down. Now none of the gauges work including my gas gauges, speedometer, air, window, car temp and the lights stay on when I turn the car on. I am a single mom I cannot pay ridiculous amounts of money for them to figure it out. There are a lot of people on the internet that have the same issues but have not addressed the issue with Dodge. Someone needs to do something about this issue. This is very dangerous I have run out of gas on the highway and on a road where gas is not off the exit. I am a mother of two and that's not safe. Please see if you could help me. Thank you.

5 Battery problem of the 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 08/30/2011

The sliding passenger door locks no longer lock automatically lock while driving. They have to be locked manually. This is a safety issue. With children in the back seat, they can now open the doors while the car is moving if an adult forgets to lock them. The lift gate in the back no longer chimes when opening. This is a safety issue. Someone can get whacked with the door, not kowing that it is about to open. The parking lights stay on or come on spontaneously after the headlights have been turned off. This is a problem. Very easy for the owner to come out in the morning to a dead battery and a car that won't start. Some owners have reported the headlights cutting out while driving, a serious safety issue.

6 Battery problem of the 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 07/03/2011

System will beep, dash lights and guages will flash and go dead. Door looks also stop working. One incident of battery being drained to nothing, no emergency standby power for starting. Many reports of the bcm module being the cause. Can be temporarily fixed by pulling the iod fuse to reset the bcm. Dodge TSB 08-040-04 reported to outline the problem. Replacing the bcm not always reported to fix. Flashing the bcm(updating code) more commonly reported to fix, also mention of corroded contacts being related. Repair is hard to determine as any work done on the bcm will result in a reset where it will temporarily start working again.

9 Battery problem of the 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 08/09/2010

Electric locks: after 36000 miles and no more warranty on the vehicle the power locks quit working. I found that pulling the battery would resolve the issue for a short while but it would come back again and that doing this could cause issues with how the engine ran for a while and of course the radio and clock would have to be reset. After researching the issue I found that this is known issue and that it would require a firmware upgrade on the vehicle on board computer. The manufacterer nor dealer would do this at no cost. It cost me $85. 00 to get the update. I do not feel this is right and only hope that others will file complaints to get Dodge to correct this and re-imburse their customers who have had to do this. As for me, this is my third Dodge and will no longer buy another.

10 Battery problem of the 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 06/25/2010

Recently my power door locks quit on my 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan, when trying to activate it either by my key or from the door panel. I gave it to my mechanic who fixed the problem. . The same problem recurred a week later. I was quite upset for paying money for a simple problem which was not fixed. The mechanic told me to disconnect the power from the battery (for at least 15 minutes) and then reconnect the battery. The power door locks now work. However this problem could happen again. I did a search on this problem on the web and found many other people complaining about this exact problem on the 2005 Grand Caravan. The correct solution seems to be going to a dealer. But I will not pay for a manufacturing defect ( and this defect is definitely a safety and security problem). This problem should be under a recall order.

25 Battery problem of the 1997 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 07/05/2006

The battery light came on in my 1997 Grand Caravan and a couple of minutes later the abs light came on. When I got to work I cut the car off and tried to restart it. It did start but the cut off. Then it would not start at all. No dash lights anything. I waited about 3 hours and tried to start it again and nothing happened. When the tow truck came and the driver got in and tried to start it, again it was totally dead. He left the key in the on position while we talked and then about a minute later the dash light came on and he started it. The dealer could not find anything wrong with it. This happened once before about a year ago. On the way to work all the lights came on in the dash and I pulled over and cut the car off. After about 10 minutes I tried it again and it started with no problem. I am concerned that it is a problem with the computer. Have you heard of this problem before?.

27 Battery problem of the 1996 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 02/10/2004

Had the 1696 Dodge Grand Caravan for almost 3 years , electrical problems I think. The speedometer, odometer, gear selector, water coolant gauge, fuel gauge stops working while driving and when I shut car off the gear selector and odometer stays illuminated even with the car off and lights off , or on. . Also the tachometer freezes up on a certain rpm . Depending what the rpm was when everything stoped working right. . Windshield wipers turn on automatically but 99. 9% of the time they wont shut off even if I select it to shut off , they keep going and going even on dry days and no rain . Took it to mechanic and they cant find what is wrong with it and they charge me 60 to 90 dollars just to test it and they never come up with a solution unless they disconnect the battery and let it sit for a few minutes so the computer or something resets, but this happens about every 3 to 6 months and also before this happens the car runs rough at idle or sitting at a red light or at a stop . The driver seat buckle sometimes dont unlatch, I have to use extra force to unlatch them, sometimes I dont even wear a seat belt cause I am scared that if something happens and I need to get out of the car quickly that I wont be able to. The middle bench seat seems loose , everythime I come to a stop or I take off a clucking sound comes from the middle row seats, I checked it and it seemed like its all locked in but I dont trust it. . I would never purchase a Chrysler product ever again even if it is given to me for free or even give it to my worst enemy. . Thank you . . Jz.
