22 problems related to engine stall have been reported for the 2004 Dodge Ram 1500. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Engine stalls at all speeds on an interstate while going 75 mph with no control of steering due to lost of power steering or brakes. Sometimes it will restart of sometimes it doesn't right away but after about thirty minutes it will restart. This is also true of parking lots and city streets. With no codes or engine check light to refer to.
I was going 60 miles per hour down the freeway and engine stalled in the middle of the road, completely turned off,had to pull over on the shoulder and put it in park, restart it in order for it to turn on. This has occurred several times now. Even when turning or coming to a stop, truck has been doing this more often. Checked recalls but nothing,I know there are several complaints like mine. It has even occurred while turning, coming to a stop and driving at low speeds as well.
As I was driving on the freeway at 70 mph, I heard a loud "smack!" before the engine stalled and I lost power steering and power breaks. Luckily, I'm pretty strong and was able to pull off to the shoulder. The engine would start but not turn over with 4 or 5 attempts. It started on the fifth or sixth try but would not idle. I was finally able to get it to start and on my way to the mechanic, I could tell something was broken in the engine. After inspecting the engine and looking into it, it's been determined that a valve spring broke and sent the valve through the piston and into the cylinder, effectively ceasing the engine while the vehicle travelled at freeway speeds.
When braking, the vehicle engine stalls as I slow down. The issue was intermittent, but now happens each time I break. I have to pull over with no power steering and restart the vehicle in p or n. Sometimes, I have to wait a few minutes before it will let me restart.
On multiple occasions, while at low speed (pulling into an intersection from a red light or stop sign), the engine idle drops and the engine stalls. I have to brake with my left foot and keep the engine idle up by pressing on the gas to keep from stalling. I have been almost rear ended several times and do not trust the truck. After reading the complaints and research on the truck, this happens a lot and is dangerous. When I talked to the dealer, they say they are not aware of any problems like this and they would be happy to diagnose the truck (for $125. 00) and go from there. From what I have read, it seems they want to exchange parts and charge for the service.
Engine stalled while driving a few times. Some times while turning causing a loss of steering. Finally engine quit, luckily while still and a valve sprig broke and valve dropped. Dodge has long know about this dangerous situation. Now I amount of warranty and out of luck. But lucky to be alive.
During idles or stopping for intersections or traffic the engine stalls and dies making it impossible to steer or stop. I have nearly wrecked several time when it happened on hills. The mechanics I when to can't find anything, one of which was the Dodge dealership. The problem started once after re fueling and now every time I get gas it does it several times then runs alright but the problem is getting worse. There in no warning when I dies and one of these times I am afraid I won't be able to stop it. I have seen multiple complaints on the issue with no decisive solution.
I have 2004 Dodge ram and several times when usually turning my engine will stall! very dangerous and could have been killed! I see this is a very common problem in these vehicles and as far as I can see it has not been addressed! apparently, it will take a fatal accident to find out what the problem is!.
Vehicle was driving through a parking lot at approximately 5 miles per hour when suddenly the engine stalled. There was no loss of power to any other systems. The vehicle litterly just cut off. The steering immediately became tight and unable to turn. I placed the truck in park and turned the key to the off position and waited about 30 seconds and tried to restart the truck. It operated for about 25 yards before doing the same thing again.
Engine stalls randomly for no reason.
2004 Ram 1500 quad cab 5. 7l hemi. Engine suddenly stalls when it reaches temperature if the vehicle is decelerating (stop or turn). The engine appears to fail to switch correctly from high to low idle and goes right to zero. This results in immediate loss of steering and significant safety hazard. This has continued to occur more frequently with time and by the online descriptions is getting to be fairly common.
Braking on the highway led to engine stall and full loss of power to vehicle. Vehicle stalled in left lane and nearly caused a crash. Also, rack and pinion steering began to fail at 50,000 miles. Replaced at 54,000.
5. 7 engine stalls, no warning, when slowing down. Causes loss of power steering.
I have a 2004 Dodge ram with the 5. 7 hemi motor. The engine stalls and dies for no reason when I am slowing down and preparing to turn.
I just learned you were looking into an issue with 2004/05 Dodge ram trucks where the engine stalls. I own a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 quad cab with a 5. 7 liter engine. In December of 2006, I was traveling up a hill (a fairly steep grade) at about 30 - 35 mph when the engine just stalled for no apparent reason just as I was about to come left around a bend. The engine restarted and has not stalled since.
Vehicle engine stalls randomly. No warning, no warning lights. Vehicle driving 10-15 mph, engine stops. Will start up immediately when ignition turned off then on.
2004 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 5. 7 hemi. Engine stalls daily when stopping at red lights or stop signs. Dealer has "flashed' the computer, but never helps.
My Dodge ram with the 5. 7 (hemi) engine stalls without warning. Examples include stop lights, and driving conditions ranging from 20-65mph. Dodge serviced the vehicle but the problem still remains. The most recent event was 5/18/05. I am awaiting word on the current condition of my truck from the dealership. . . Rem.
I own a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 powered by the hemi engine. I have talked with timberline Dodge located in portland or about a problem I have been experiencing with the engine suddenly stalling for no reason. All that the dealership did was add me to a list of over 30 other can owners with the same problem. Today I was nearly in an accient as the result of the engine quitting without notice. I was entering a busy parking list when I was suddenly confronted with a steering wheel that would not turn and brakes that were ineffective. I have researched further and there appears to be a substantial number of vehicle owners with the same problem. . I purchased the vehicle 2 months ago and have had several occurences since please help.
While driving at 20 mph engine stalled and lost complete power. The vehicle stalled while making left or right turns at low speed, and while coming to stop(s) both up or down hill at low speeds. Dodge say they are aware of problem, but can not resolve at this time.
When braking/stoping the engine will stall, dealership has verified stalling problem. Have been advised that Dodge is aware of problem and an update to software is under development. Dodge does not know the release date of software.
I have an 2004 Dodge ram with a 5. 7l hemi engine. My truck is now around 50k miles. I have had engine stalling since day-one of owning the vehicle. I have taken it to two Dodge dealers multiple times and it has yet to be fixed. The engine stalls mostly when coming to a stop. Sometimes is just stalls after sitting at a light with my foot on the brake.
