Dodge Ram 1500 owners have reported 20 problems related to air bag light on (under the air bag category).
I took my truck in for an oil change and to have the air bag light that was coming on intermittly. After the diagnoises was done I was informed that the clock spring was broken. I asked what this spring contrroled and was informed of a varity of things including the air bag system. I asked if the air bags would deploy if I was to get into an accident and was told no they wouldn't. So I had it repaired at a cost of almost $400. 00. After talking to other people I found out that this was a common problem with a varity of vehicles. I thinking that there should be a look into these clock springs. It sounds like this is a common item that fails.

I understand that there was a recall of defective clocksprings that disabled airbags in certain Dodge products (safety recall 982)(NHTSA identification number 01v-153). The recall included vehicles in the VIN last 8 digits ws501493 to ws771681. My 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 has a last eight digits of [xxx]. Thus, it does fall within the range of recalled VIN numbers. However, for some reason my truck is not described as one of those recalled. However, I have an airbag light that is on and the steering wheel mounted cruise control does not work it seems to me that both of these are indications of a defective clockspring just as on the recalled vehicles. I would like to know why I have not received a recall notice and why my vehicle make model and year is not described as recalled even though the last eight VIN digits falls within the range of those recalled for this defect. Can the recall of this be studied further and expanded to include my vehicle? information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

The tipm is going out. Causing all sorts of electrical issues. Heater fan stopped working, windshield wipers come and go, esp comes and goes, tow/haul comes and goes, rear window power comes and goes, 4x4 cant be turned on from time to time, airbag lights come on at will, esp/bas comes and goes, abs comes and goes, rear sliding window comes and goes, all of this happens mainly below 32 degrees but van happen anytime. But below freezing is extemely dangerous because the windshield ices up on the inside with no heater fan! thermometer stopped working to. Im sure other thing but its to much to just remember off the top of my head. Fuel economy is terrible also 12-13. 5 mpg while the problems occur. Normally is 17. 1 mpg average still that is terrible. At test drive it was getting 20 mpg average.

There was an electrical failure in the wiring system from the fuse block this is known to be a common problem with the Dodge rams the abs light, brake light and airbag light as well as the engine light all come on also the odometer and speedometer also stop working. This stops the abs system from working as well as the airbags I have had to change the fuse block as well as the rear speed sensor, and the dash cluster because of this over a three year period now, the first time all of my lights stopped working as well as the dash gauges and door locks. Why is this and ongoing problem with this and nothing seems to get done about it the first time I got a copy of a service bulletin and Dodge tried to tell me it was only good for diesel models and I have the same issues. There seems to be a real history of these problems with this vehicle and the dealers are all aware of this.
Air bag light stays on.

While driving 97 Dodge ram my daughter almost wrecked due to vehicle sudden surge, stall and shut down causing loss of power steering and other control of vehicle. Also happened to me multiple times when I test drove it. Subsequent events found to include air bag light illumination, cruise control light on steering wheel comes on and vehicle surges with rpm's up to @ 2,000 before full stall. Code p0123 on obdii scanner. Sensor replaced and still happening. Stopped problem completely by disconnecting the clock spring connections. Researched other complaints and found many listed under vehcile speed control, clock spring, airbag, electrical etc covering many years and including injuries. Nhtsa needs to cross reference these complaints and connect the dots as there is no place I can find to type in the actual component name "clock spring" which is an extremely poor setup for a complaint site. Also limiting mileage to 3 numbers is rediculous. Speed ranged from barely moviing @ 2mph to 45mph. Somebody is going to get killed if they haven't already.

The contact owns a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500. While driving approximately 35 mph the radio turned off and the an air bag light began illuminating on the dashboard. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the contact was told that the clock spring needed to be replaced. An authorized dealer was notified and the contact was informed there was a waiting list of approximately 350 people for the parts necessary to complete the repairs. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact also stated the vehicle would shake intermittently while driving approximately 25 mph. The failure mileage was 26,000 and the current mileage was 30,407.

I'm having problems with the airbag system in my 2005 Dodge Ram 1500. My airbag light started going off any time I turned my steering wheel to the left. Now, the light comes/stays on at any given moment. I had a mechanic run the test and was told that it's the driver's squibb circuit board. I started researching the issue and noticed the 2005 Dodge ram 2500 & 3500 had a factory recall for the same issue, yet this same safety issue for the 1500 is not covered.

Air bag light is on and will not go off.
The contact owns a 2008 Dodge Ram 1500. The contact stated that the driver's side air bag light remains illuminated in the vehicle. He took the vehicle to the dealer four times. The first time he was informed that the air bag failed and new parts would be ordered to replace the entire unit; however, the parts never arrived to make the replacement. He took the vehicle to a different dealer and they ordered the parts. Once again, the parts never arrived. The contact took the vehicle back to the original dealer and was informed that the part was unavailable and could not be replaced. The contact believes that this is a manufacturer defect and that the parts should be available to the vehicles that are defective. The failure mileage was 13,000 and current mileage was 26,000.
The contact owns a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500. While driving 35 mph, the air bag light illuminated on the instrument control panel. The contact took the vehicle to a local mechanic and was informed that it was experiencing symptoms similar to the ones described in NHTSA campaign id number 01v153000 (air bags). The mechanic advised him to take his vehicle to the local dealer. The dealer stated that his VIN was not included in the recall and all repairs would be made at the contact's expense. The vehicle is currently at the dealer for diagnosis. The failure mileage was 95,000 and current mileage was 111,000.

Air bag light keeps coming on frequently. Have had service when it happens, have been told by durham Dodge "don't worry about it, it's nothing!" it is not normal for this to occur and I feel unprotected when this light is on. No injuries yet, no crash yet. Do I have peace of mind that I can rely on my air bag ???? no!!!.

While making a slow right turn at about 5-10 mph steering wheel became very hard to turn. Consumer then heard a loud popping sound and airbag light came on. Vehicle not taken to dealer yet. Please add further comments.
Airbag light came on and there was a noise when steering. Vehicle taken to dealer 5 times, replaced clock spring assembly. Did not remedy problem. Consumer is returning vehicle under lemon law.
Air bag light is on glow as described in the recall notice of NHTSA id# 01v153000. Dodge mfg. And the dealer says no recall on my truck eventhough air bag light is on as described in the recall notice. Recall is on trucks yr. 1996 thru yr. 2000 and mine is a yr. 1997.
After many visits to the selling dealer, and a meeting with the Chrysler rep. My truck still exhibits problems such as sat. 4/28/01 while driving I turned the truck right and noticed the steering was extremely tight, when the steering wheel was turned back to the straight position, something inside cracked, almost immediately the (air bag) light came on and remainred on, truck was brought to dealer and was set for an appointment for Monday, 4/30/01. The ownersmanual states ( warning ignoring the air bag light in your instrument panel could mean you won't have the air bags to protect you in a collision) the dealer failed in attempt after attempt to investigate my complaints, and now caused me to have to drive this defective truck. The brakes at times while comming to a stop shudder, or do you call it wheel hop , 3/15/01 dependable Dodge replaced the brake drums on the rear after the service director drove the truck on 3/9/01. The truck now three times is exhibiting front tire wear, first time they match mounted the tires as well as took one of the front tires off the rim and exchanged it with the spare tire under the truck, second time they aligned the frontend and rotated the tires, 200 miles later the tires showed signs of wear again, truck was taken to 2 different michelin tire dealers and they informed me that the tires are wearing prematurely, to soon with only 1000 miles on them since the alignment. The truck ehibits what the service director says is a ping, I was informed to increase the octane from 87 to 89, which has done nothing. I am in the process of entering into the lemon law process and am very dissapointed with the response I have received from the dealer as well as the manufacturer. Thank you.
